Program for College Readiness PCR is a specialized, tuition-based program designed for students with mild to moderate diagnosed learning differences who benefit from targeted academic support. Eligibility and Documentation A diagnosed learning difference that affects cognitive processes related to learning. A psychoeducational evaluation completed within the past three years. Review of the evaluation to determine appropriate tier placement and develop an Individual Accommodation Plan.
Families without current testing should consult the PCR Director or Director of Counseling before arranging an updated evaluation.
Self-Directed Extended Time Program This program is designed for eligible students who do not need the structured academic instruction and support offered through PCR but qualify for additional time on major assessments.
How It Works 50% additional time: For example, a 60-minute assessment becomes up to 90 minutes. Eligible assessments: Major in-class assessments, including tests and timed major essays, and semester exams. Not included: Projects, papers, quizzes, daily assessments, and minor grades. Student responsibility: Students must request extended time and coordinate arrangements with their instructors before the scheduled assessment. Flexible implementation: Students and teachers determine together how and when the additional time will be provided.
Eligibility and Documentation A diagnosed learning difference that affects cognitive processes related to learning. A recent psychoeducational evaluation completed within the past three years, submitted for school review. School approval and participation in a meeting to review procedures before using the accommodation. In some circumstances, administrators may approve temporary accommodations for up to one semester based on documentation from a qualified professional or a prior school's 504 Plan or IEP. Full evaluation documentation is required for continued accommodations beyond that period.
What About AP, SAT, PSAT, and ACT Exams? School-approved Self-Directed Extended Time does not automatically apply to College Board or ACT examinations. Students may submit the required documentation to request accommodations directly through the testing organizations, which independently determine approval.
Getting Started Step 1: Inform the Admissions Office during the application process that your family is seeking accommodations. Step 2: Review both program options with Admissions and determine which may best fit your student's needs. Step 3: Submit the required documentation and follow the school's review and approval process. Our goal is to help every student understand their learning, develop their strengths, and grow in independence. For questions about accommodations or the application process, contact the Houston Christian Admissions Office.
