Ahidden gem for Kiwis known as the ‘20 minute city’, Adelaide is the gateway to all there is to see and do in South Australia. Bursting with multicultural flavours, surrounded by buzzing cosmopolitan towns and pumping arts and live music-scene. Check out Adelaide’s laneways and side streets which have been transformed with hidden bars and eateries. Foodies love the sights, tastes and smells of the Adelaide Central Market. Regarded as the ‘pantry of the city’, it’s the perfect place to stop and pick up supplies for your stay.
Take a wander down North Terrace, regarded as Adelaide’s cultural boulevard and home to the city’s grandest treasure houses. It’s a heartland of art, history, knowledge and people. You’ll find the State’s Art Gallery, SA Museum, Library and Botanic Gardens, which are all free to visit.
From the city centre it’s just a 20 minute tram ride to the beachside suburb of Glenelg. This seaside playground is always buzzing with people enjoying the sand, sea, foreshore parks, cafés and local entertainment. Stroll along the jetty, browse through the hundreds of shops and dine at sidewalk cafés along Jetty Road.

OUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO SEE AND DO
Wine –You can’t get far without encountering one of the famous regions. Adelaide is Australia’s wine capital and the gateway to 18 distinctive, world-renowned wine regions. There’s the Barossa, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale all just an easy drive away, then Coonawarra 4 hour drive south. You just have to decide red, white or sparkling!
Adelaide Central Market –Adelaide’s premier food destination for multi-cultural cuisine and fresh produce. One of the largest undercover fresh produce markets in the Southern Hemisphere buzzing with life and colour all year round. This is a great place to wander sampling a huge range of food on offer, all under one roof and surrounded by some great cafés. The market is open Tuesday – Saturday.
Shopping - Shopaholics feel right at home on Rundle Mall, with over 700 retailers in one convenient pedestrian-friendly strip. Discover boutiques selling local designs and higher-end clothing stores on Rundle Street or one-off luxe homewares on King William Road. No matter which way you look at it, Adelaide is a shopper’s delight!
Beaches –Glenelg, Henley and Semaphore are some of the most popular. Catch the tram from the city to historic Glenelg, just 12 kilometres from the city centre, or if you don’t mind travelling a bit further the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula is just 45 minutes from the CBD.
Hahndorf –A stop at the German village of Hahndorf is recommended. Lined with jacaranda trees, the main street’s quaint and historic stone buildings are filled with art and craft galleries, cellar doors, antique shops, German bakeries, chocolate shops, pubs, cafés and a fantastic cheese cellar.
Kangaroo Island –One of the best places in Australia to see native animals in the wild. You may find kangaroos, koalas, platypus and sea lions. It has pristine beaches, dramatic coastal scenery and fresh seafood, and is a 30 minute flight or 2 hour drive and a short ferry ride south of Adelaide.
