1735 Ever since its founding years, Garrard has focused on crafting jewels that amplify the innate natural beauty of precious stones, like the iconic cluster setting that defines the 1735 collection. This classic design has been employed by Garrard to enhance diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and rubies throughout its history, including the sapphire brooch given to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert.

Regal Cascade The most impressive stone cut from the great Cullinan Diamond – the largest diamond discovered to this day – weighed an astonishing 530 carats. Known as the Great Star of Africa, this regal stone sits atop the Sovereign’s Sceptre, in a mount of enamel and gemstones. Crafted by Garrard in 1910, this iconic scroll setting inspired the striking Sovereign motif, which is celebrated in the Regal Cascade collection.

Tudor Rose The Tudor Rose has its origin in marriage, when the heraldic emblems of two families combined, rose upon rose, to symbolise unity. Garrard translates the heraldic emblem of England into a beautiful, stylised design that feels effortlessly modern whilst recalling the finest craftsmanship from Garrard’s past, like the Tudor Rose-inspired Burmese Tiara made for the Queen in 1973.

Petal For centuries, flowers have inspired the designers at Garrard to create delicately detailed jewels that capture their ephemeral allure in precious stones, with none more treasured than the English rose – a timeless symbol of femininity. The ruffled silhouette of this most fragrant of blooms is captured for eternity in Garrard’s Petal jewels, which trace each scalloped curve in diamonds.

High Jewellery The ultimate expression of the jeweller’s art, Garrard’s one-of-a-kind jewels represent the very best of design, craftsmanship and precious stones. Beginning with a spark of inspiration, the House’s designers sketch their ideas before finessing every small detail in an intricately realised gouache painting. Once approved, the design is passed to the London workshop, where artisans who are masters of their craft translate the designers’ visions into singular jewels that tell the ever-evolving story of Garrard.

75

Jewelled Vault Inspired by the magnificent jewellery collection of Maria Alexandrovna, the Duchess of Edinburgh, a loyal patron of Garrard and lover of exceptional stones, the Jewelled Vault is where some of the House’s most treasured jewels reside. Starring exceptional diamonds and gems sourced for their outstanding attributes, each design is inspired by the remarkable beauty of the stones, placing them centre stage.

Situated in the heart of London since it was founded in 1735, Garrard has a long and distinguished history of crafting exquisite jewels for royalty and private clients. From the legendary setting of the Cullinan I diamond, the world’s largest cut and colourless diamond, to glittering tiaras worn at state occasions, this unparalleled legacy continues to inform the design of each new creation. Firmly rooted in the brand’s heritage, the motifs and silhouettes that have come to define these iconic jewels are reinterpreted by the House’s experienced design team with a freshness and lightness of touch that speaks to the modern woman of today. Over the centuries, some of the world’s most celebrated stones have been brought to life in the House’s workshop and its industry-leading designers, gemmologists and craftspeople continue to be entrusted with extraordinary new designs. The same artisans who make these masterpieces are also responsible for creating the much-loved jewels in Garrard’s collections, each of which bears the quintessential British hallmarks of heritage and handcraftsmanship.

83

Heritage The longest-serving jeweller in the world, Garrard’s heritage is unrivalled by any jewellery house. Founded almost 300 years ago by master silversmith George Wicks, Garrard has called its flagship boutique at 24 Albemarle Street home since 1911. To this day, jewels continue to be designed and crafted at the House’s prestigious Albemarle Street address, which has witnessed many historic moments. If the walls could talk, what would they say? They would certainly recall the moment the final diamond – one of more than 2,000 – was added to Queen Mary’s consort crown in the workshop, and its presentation to the wife of George V in the first-floor salon.

84

Garrard has long had the honour of working closely with the British royal family, and royalty around the world. Its first royal commission came from Frederick, Prince of Wales in Garrard’s founding year. This fruitful relationship with British royalty reached its apogee in 1843, when Queen Victoria appointed Garrard as the first official Crown Jeweller. The House has served every British monarch since. Over the years, Garrard has crafted many historic jewels. These include the sapphire and diamond brooch given to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert on the eve of their wedding day in 1840, and the iconic sapphire engagement ring presented to the Duchess of Cambridge by Prince William, which previously belonged to his beloved mother, Princess Diana. Today Garrard continues to be highly regarded throughout the world for its jewellery, royal regalia, sporting trophies, decorations and medals, as well as its state and corporate silver gifts. Garrard is also proud to currently hold the Royal Warrant as Jewellers, Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, appointed by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. 85

Craftsmanship Generations of craftsmen and women have passed through Garrard’s doors, developing and refining techniques, bringing designs to life and passing their knowledge on to apprentices. In the workshop, the traditional jewellery-making techniques of the master craftsperson, which have remained unchanged for centuries, are enhanced by a dedicated technology team who specialise in computer-aided design technology (CAD). This comingtogether of skills, old and new, the human hand and high-tech innovation, enables Garrard to realise designs of great intricacy and complexity. A collaboration of creative forces, Garrard’s designers and artisans work closely together, uniting heritage cues whilst pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Through sketches, gouaches, technical drawings and 3D models, this perfectly balanced fusion of art and artisanship is expressed in spectacular jewels that seamlessly blend the House’s rich heritage with contemporary elegance. 86
