TONE MATERIALS ARE ESSENTIALLY THE ICING OF ANY KITCHEN OR BATHROOM PROJECT, PROVIDING BOTH THE FUNCTIONAL VALUE OF PULLING THE ROOM’S COMPONENTS TOGETHER AND SOMETHING PLEASING FOR THE EYE.
Choosing the perfect stone takes careful consideration, and the guidance of someone who knows the product. At AAA Hellenic, customers can turn to professionals who have decades of experience designing and installing stone in kitchens, bathrooms, foyers, fireplaces and even in outdoor living spaces. Mike Werner, sales manager, is one such expert who has been with the family-focused company for more than 10 years.
House & Home spoke with Werner about how new products from Silestone and Dekton are giving people the high-end looks they’ve wanted at a more reasonable price.
WHEN YOU MEET WITH CLIENTS, WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THEIR LIFESTYLE TO GUIDE THEIR SELECTION?
Most individuals typically have saved pictures they found online or in magazines to establish an idea of their design preferences. We also want to know about what’s going on in the space where the stone will be used. Every household is different. Materials they might like or find attractive might not be the best choice for their home. Granite is very dense and durable. It is heat resistant and scratch re-
sistant, with minimal maintenance. Marble is a classic choice with unrivaled beauty and gives you a timeless look. It may be a little softer than granite, but will still give you a very durable surface.
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE EMERGING POPULARITY OF NATURAL STONE QUARTZITE AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF IT?
Engineered quartz has gained popularity over the past couple of years, but natural stone is still the most requested for its beauty and durability. Natural stone quartzite is an especially good choice for kitchens. Everyone likes the look of marble, but it’s softer and more porous. Quartzite is a dense stone that can handle the impact and functionality in a kitchen, and it’s not as porous.
We directly import this stone from the quarries to our facility, which enables us to pass discounted pricing on to clients for rare quartzites in a wide variety of colors. The materials are temperamental and require a high level of care and precision, which Hellenic excels and specializes in.
We’re really excited about the design potential with products from Silestone and Dekton in shower wall and bathroom applications. People have been longing for a solid-slab, seamless look on their shower walls—nobody likes grout joints—but this comes with additional labor to get these large slabs into tight shower spaces. These new products are more durable and thinner, making them easier to transport and install. Silestone is engineered quartz and in particular has some nice combinations of natural stone-looking materials, as well as muted patterns for the monochromatic look people want. Dekton is a porcelain and glass hybrid with quartz that is more durable and still gives that desirable natural stone look. This is something that we are specializing in.
Our slab yard is open by appointment so we can control the amount of people in the building at a time, everything is spaced out and we also have outdoor inventory available weather permitting. We have implemented additional safety measures, including UV light systems and UV air purifiers to reduce airborne contaminants and provide more peace of mind for customers. We also offer virtual appointments.
Our inventory of marble, granite, soapstone and quartzite is very strong right now, we’ve added a lot of new products for people. We have about 200 different colors on display, and our stones are directly imported from places like Italy, Brazil and Africa. It’s always beneficial to walk through and see the stone in different lighting, and more often than not, people find something they never expected.

EW JERSEY PRESENTS AN INTERESTING LANDSCAPE FOR HOME DESIGN. CENTERED BETWEEN NEW YORK CITY, PHILADELPHIA AND WASHINGTON, D.C. THE AREA IS HUNGRY FOR THE LATEST AND GREATEST—FEEDING OFF OF THE INNOVATION AND MODERNIZATION WITHIN THE STATE AND ITS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. YET, NEW JERSEY HAS A HISTORY DATING ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE FOUNDING OF THIS COUNTRY, PROMOTING A HOUSING MARKET FILLED WITH HISTORICAL HOMES, ESPECIALLY IN SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY.
This dichotomy leads many homeowners to seek traditional elements with a modern flair, combining the best of both worlds to create a timeless home design.
With a unique skillset and plenty of experience working with historic homes right here in South Jersey, the folks at Daniel Robert Remodeling are experts in adding modern takes on traditional home elements from fireplaces to freestanding tubs and more.
House & Home spoke to Ken Huffman, lead carpenter at Daniel Robert Remodeling, to learn more about how to combine modern and traditional elements together to create a cohesive design.
CAN MODERN AND TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS COEXIST?
Modern and traditional elements can coexist and lend themselves to creating a beautiful aesthetic. We try to make sure that with each design our work reflects the character of a home and its homeowners. First and foremost, when working on historic homes, we are dedicated to protecting the artisanship and craftsmanship of those who helped give these homes their own unique ‘personalities.’
I've personally worked with historical societies and commissions to educate not only myself, but also the homeowners, on the best practices in terms of restoration and preservation.
WHEN PREPARING TO RENOVATE A HISTORIC OR OLDER HOME, HOW CAN MODERN ELEMENTS BE INCORPORATED WITHOUT LOSING THAT HISTORICAL FEEL?
At Daniel Robert Remodeling, it's very important we tackle our renovations with proper, modern and efficient products. Although I love finding old newspapers in walls and seeing how much a Buick cost in 1968, shortcuts and outdated techniques are not doing anyone any good these days. We use innovative products behind and in front of walls to ensure your home is a timeless work of art. One of the biggest ways we do this is through the use of new products— like faucets and light fixtures that have vintage décor looks to them but are also energy efficient.
WITH LIFESTYLES CHANGING OVER THE GENERATIONS, HOW DO LIVING HABITS INFLUENCE HOME DESIGN?
As we have seen over the last few decades, technology innovations can make our home— and lives—more efficient. For example, many houses were built without laundry rooms or only had space for laundry in a cold, dark basement. As lives take on a busier pace and convenience is more sought after, we are finding and creating solutions for that, adapting our home design plans to
better fit the needs and wants of homeowners. Among the most requested options are larger showers and well-organized spaces that make it easy to get ready for the day. Functionality, ease of use and aesthetics are at the forefront of most homeowners' dream spaces, so we work to incorporate those elements into each design we work on.
HOW CAN TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS BE MODERNIZED TO FIT A MORE PRESENT DAY LOOK AND USE?
Color and functionality are helpful tools in making the traditional look more modern. We recently completed a project on a fireplace that serves as a great example of this. Adding in a black palette, contrasting against the white walls of the home and installing a modern, gas fireplace into the wall brought a classy, contemporary look into the home. These alterations helped to complete our customer’s modern aesthetic, and still provide warmth and a focal point to the room.
This modernization isn’t isolated to the living room as a more modern freestanding tub can actually look vintage with the use of surrounding vintage tile.
WHY SHOULD HOMEOWNERS CHOOSE DANIEL ROBERT REMODELING FOR THEIR HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS?
I can honestly and wholeheartedly say that when I decided to join Daniel Robert a few years ago, it was the best decision I could have made. Having been in the trades for over 25 years, it's rare to find a company as friendly and family oriented as Daniel Robert.
This Lumberton, N.J. bathroom was remodeled with custom carpentry and molding, creating a luxurious retreat. The large soaking tub, paired with stunning detailed tile, truly ties the entire space together for a completely different look than before.
Amiano & Son transformed this Marlton, N.J. kitchen into a spacious, open-concept space, featuring a stunning double island design and sleek quartz countertops that elevate both style and functionality for everyday living. This South Jersey home’s entryway went from dated to divine with exceptional craftsmanship, featuring custom carpentry and intricate framing. Now this space is a one-of-a-kind look that will last for years to come.
The sleek gray tones and mixed textures in this Jersey Shore bath create a serene, spa-like oasis. Added shiplap and seashell light fixtures bring in coastal charm while maintaining a luxurious touch, completely recreating the space from its original design.
& Son took this Shamong,
client’s home from dark and dated to bright and warm, with natural wood floors and crisp white contrasts. By opening up the kitchen and dining room, it created a more practical layout that’s perfect for entertaining.
Family values and amazing, happy customers triumphed BWS to have the best year in the history of the company in spite of the pandemic.
MANY BUSINESSES HAVE CLOSED THEIR DOORS FOREVER. However, despite the bleak outlook for many, one local business is overwhelmed with new customers. In fact, it’s in the midst of an immense expansion, including the conversion of a historic Collegeville home, built in the 1700s, into a second location.
Using a house as an office isn’t new for Basement Waterproofing Specialists. Its main office, located in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, is also a farmhouse-turned-waterproofing headquarters. It’s no coincidence that the company recently converted a second home into a new workspace. “Our goal has always been to treat you like family. That’s not a marketing gimmick. We are blessed with exceptional employees who really care about our customers.
We teach our inspectors and work crews to treat every single client’s home as if it were the house of one of their family members,” says Ken Klinger, his wife Deb and daughter Anne.
This philosophy has paid off well for both the company and its clients. It’s been a happy home to many pets. Employees are encouraged to bring their pets to work. Besides Ken and Deb’s two giant, lovable Boz shepherds, Carl and Clarabelle, the main office is also often host to a happy flock of dogs, cats, rabbits and birds.
Over the last seven years, the company has won awards for “Best Basement Waterproofing company” from Angie’s List, House & Home, Home Advisor Magazine, the Mercury Newspaper and more. It currently holds an overall 4.6-star rating, based on over 200 reviews on Facebook, Google, Thumbtack and Angie’s List. It also has an astonishing
9,700 likes and 10,000 followers on Facebook while competitors average under 500.
This award-winning service combined with extreme customer loyalty is the major driving force behind the company expanding while many are retreating. “Humble thanks to our amazing customers. We have been overwhelmed by so many referrals during the COVID crisis. Those referrals, plus Gov. Tom Wolf deeming us an essential business, have helped us expand into a second office to house our ever-growing staff,” says Ken. “We are not only thrilled to help our customers solve their problems, but also happy to create new jobs for people in the area.”
In March of 2020, Gov. Wolf determined that Basement Waterproofing Specialists is an essential business whose work is “necessary to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.” In addition to waterproofing, the company also removes mold and improves air quality. Its Ozone Generation technology is EPA-approved and can help eliminate not only mold and mildew, but also airborne pathogens in your home.
Basement Waterproofing Specialists’ expansion is a bit historic, as well. Its new building, located at 109 River Road in Collegeville, was built in 1700, and was used as a hotel to help with the growing tourism to the area. This fourth-generation family business is eager to help your family enjoy a clean, dry, mold-free, safe basement.
Sincerely,
Jenna Naffin, Show Manager

Whether you’ve saved up for the bathroom remodel of your dreams or you’ve plunged into a home improvement project unexpectedly, you want experienced professionals who are willing to stand behind their work.
New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the country, giving rise to a sea of home improvement businesses. It can be overwhelming to find, to research and to settle on a professional dedicated to getting the job done right.
With its local roots, commitment to excellence, foundational customer service and industry knowledge, the decision is easy with Blissful Baths & Home.
House & Home spoke with Blissful Baths & Home President, Jeffrey Kay, about what separates them from the competition and the importance of local flavor and a client-first approach.
Located in Egg Harbor Township, Blissful is deeply connected to South Jersey. Each member of the Blissful team is a member of the local community and as such, each client is treated as a neighbor.
Beyond a local interest in bettering the homes in New Jersey, living and operating in the state gives Blissful a unique understanding of the needs and tastes of Jersey residents. From the bridge to the Shore, some things are universal—everyone is looking for the space of their dreams without spending a fortune and Blissful is eager to help.
Proud to be from New Jersey, Blissful is committed to its community through every project.
“We take great pride in creating jobs in the New Jersey economy,” says Kay. “We quietly participate in helping local businesses and families who can use the help. This is our community, and we have a responsibility to it.”
A certified Bath Concepts Inc. dealer, a ProVia Certified Window and Door installer and a GAF Certified Roofer, Blissful Baths and Home is equipped to tackle many household projects—both in the bathroom and beyond.
“We are trained by the manufacturers on proper installations as the systems were designed to be installed. We have committed to and [continue to] train our teams on these processes, so we are able to give lifetime warranties on all of these systems,” says Kay. “We also provide the longest workmanship warranties in the industry. This ensures that our clients have made a one-time investment, never paying for another service call.“
With a commitment to its community, its work and its customers, Blissful Baths & Home is eager to turn your dreams into reality.
With training direct from the manufacturer and a lifetime warranty, homeowners can rest easy knowing their home improvements are installed properly and that should a problem arise, Blissful will make it right.
Blissful understands that home remodeling is an important investment and one that is not always an easy one for homeowners. That’s why customer service is the bedrock of their company.
“Everything we do is geared towards creating the best customer experience possible. While a lot of companies say that sort of thing, the founders of Blissful have pioneered that concept. Everything we do is done with transparency and to the best of our collective abilities,” says Kay. “We understand the importance of the investments our neighbors make in their homes and so we want them to know that their investment is protected and well-made with us.”
In order to assist homeowners in making their dream homes a reality and to ease the burden of unexpected repairs, Blissful partners with three larger lenders “to serve the full spectrum of homeowners regardless of today’s financial challenges,” according to Kay.
Financing makes home improvements more accessible, and allows costly, unexpected repairs
and replacements to be resolved quickly without breaking the bank.
If you’re looking to replace an outdated bath, it’s important to work with a company willing and able to bring your space into the modern times. Blissful keeps up with innovations and trends to ensure their customers aren’t left behind.
“We are considered leaders of the industry and are invited into a lot of the beta testing, case studies and meetings around new and innovative designs,” says Kay. “We participate at the highest levels of the industry so we can offer the best to our clients.“
Right now, homeowners are drawn to the trend of a simpler, cleaner look. White showers, black trim and gray vanities are just some of the popular looks in today’s bathrooms. However, the point of a home remodel is to make your space feel authentic, so if you’re looking to ditch the trends and follow your own path, Blissful is there for any creative vision.
“Through COVID there have not been many significant changes in the industry,” McCool says, “other than the increased popularity of adding more bells and whistles to the pool.”
by Kristen Dowd
Swim-Mor Pools & Spas partner and general manager Mike McCool recognizes that there is a lot more that goes into a new pool than there used to be.
“The backyard has transformed over the last 10 years or so away from being just ‘your yard’ and into another room of your home with the same care and detail put into it,” McCool says. “Because of this the design of your pool has become more than just a pool but the focus of the outdoor living room. There is a lot of coordination with creating what a customer’s backyard haven is going to be.”
Fortunately, the family-owned South Jersey business is more than up to the challenge of bringing a customer’s backyard pool vision to life. In its 55 years of business, SwimMor Pools & Spas has helped to create thousands of backyard paradises throughout the region.
And what’s more, they make the process as easy as possible for their customers.
“We’re a start-to-finish gunite custom pool company—the design, the build and the service afterward,” McCool says. “We have our own crews that handle the work which helps us control quality and makes the process go smoother.”
There are six designers at Swim-Mor Pools & Spas who can help guide customers on a new pool design. The company’s countless photos and 3D drawings can provide inspiration, and the final design is what best suits the backyard, according to McCool.
“Size, setbacks, elevations. We’re here to help you work through that,” he says.
“The first step is to give us a call. From there we’ll set up an appointment to come out to your home,” McCool says. “That way we can see all the aspects of the property. What the contours of the yard are. What the access is like. Even the best location based on where the sun rises and sets.”
The timeline to get started is largely based on the homeowner and how decisive they are, McCool adds. Once everything is confirmed, things move to contract and Swim-Mor Pools & Spas starts working on permits.
“Time is of the essence. Permits can take from two weeks to several months, all depending on the municipality,” McCool says.
Prior to March 2020, business was strong for Swim-Mor Pools & Spa. That was only boosted when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the region.
“The pool business was never busier than it was in COVID,” McCool says. “The lockdowns forced people to stay at home and they immediately focused on the backyard.”
Although that business boom has settled down a bit, things are still busy. But pool trends, according to McCool, have held fairly steady.
Hampton-style pools have long been a customer favorite, but equally popular are the freeform designs, which can be customized to fit into any backyard environment.
Natural stone is popular for the coping along the pool’s edge, McCool says, as well as darker finishes in the pool. A majority of Swim-Mor Pools & Spa customers are using a salt sanitation system and automated controls in their new pools, as well as choosing to add water features— waterfalls, fountains, deck jets and plenty more. The company also offers many in- pool fixtures for lounging—bar stools and benches that can tie into your outdoor kitchen or can run inside the pool, along with table areas, sundecks for your lounge chairs and custom fire features. Color LED lighting packages come with every pool, too.
The majority of customers also choose elements to lengthen their pool-enjoying season, such as heaters and spas. “It will extend your pool season by a few months,” McCool says.
Being a local family-owned independent business makes Swim-Mor Pools & Spas a smart choice for customers, according to McCool.
“We’re not national. We’re not a franchise. And we do not try to sell everything. Our expertise has been building custom gunite pools for 55 years and that’s what we focus on,” he says.
Save for a few aspects that are legally required to be outsourced to independent licensed contractors, Swim-Mor Pools & Spas uses all of their own crews for the pool construction, which McCool says is unique for the pool business.
In addition to building new pools, Swim-Mor Pools & Spas also specializes in renovating gunite pools. The experienced team can handle everything from your standard renovation of replacing your coping, tile and plaster finish, to adding features such as raised water features, sun decks, and even spas that were not originally built with the pool. McCool says, “Even though your pool may not have originally been built with the more current popular features doesn’t mean that SwimMor cannot add them now.”
The 2023 pool season is already underway for the business, which thanks to the mild winter meant they were able to start construction early. Pool openings and service will ramp up from mid-April to Memorial Day.
But, for those looking to add a pool to their backyard this summer, it’s not too late. “We’re still building for this year. We’re still selling for this summer,” McCool says. “But don’t waste time. Get in!”

For four generations, the team behind Brandywine Quarry has endeavored to not only treat every customer like an extension of their close-knit family but also help clients find the stone products of their dreams—and within their budgets.
Whether they’re working with commercial builders, masons, landscapers, contractors or homeowners, Brandywine’s president Jen Taggart says that every client benefits from turning to her family’s one-stop shop, where stone is regarded as the finishing touch that can turn any surface into a work of art.
“We are quarries: Not only do we supply landscape and masonry professionals with all kinds of natural stone products, but we also quarry a proprietary stone that is well recognized and sought out regionally,” she explains. “From quarrying the materials to cutting the stone to delivering the finished product with our own delivery trucks, we handle it all.”
Taggart’s father Lynn Hanaway founded the business in 1998; he recently handed it off to his wife Connie and their daughter, both of whom tap into their fresh perspectives and industry experience to demonstrate that women can excel in a male-dominated industry. And while Brandywine has seen “trends come and go” in the past three decades, much within the industry and the company itself has remained the same.
Since 1998, Pennsylvania’s family-owned Brandywine Quarry has been working with homeowners and building professionals alike to deliver beautiful, natural stone options.
Of course, there have been plenty of changes, too, befitting a company that sees the importance of innovation, especially for the client’s benefit. An early example dates back 20 years ago, when Taggart’s dad made sure Brandywine was among the first quarries embracing modern tech to deviate from the industry’s historically standard 3-6-inch thickness for building stones to achieve a much lighter oneand-a-half-inch thickness.
“He started a fabrication facility, which used new technology that would make thinveneer stone a mainstay in building products today,” she says. “We are constantly updating our machinery to accomplish the best product
at an affordable price. With our very own manufacturing facilities utilizing the latest technology, we control the process from mining to sawing to delivery, allowing us to create the best product and experience possible with short lead times and competitive pricing.”
That “thin veneer collection is just one extensive product line” Brandywine offers and remains a popular option, though it does occasionally necessitate some clarification.
“A misconception is that ‘veneer’ means
fake stone—this is not the case: ‘Veneer’ refers to the thickness of the stone material,” Taggart begins. “Our thin stone veneer is the same timeless natural stone, but purposefully cut to improve the installation and application processes, while also increasing cost efficiency. There are no manufactured molds or artificial colors and textures here, only nature’s creations. Best of all, it can be applied to your existing buildings or structures with virtually no modifications due to an average weight of less than 15 pounds per square foot.”
Taggart also notes the ecofriendliness of the locally sourced materials, as well as endless applications of a thin veneer: interior and exterior facades, landscape walls, fireplaces, chimneys, barbecues, indoor and outdoor kitchens, pool surroundings, archways, pillars and columns.
Of course, Brandywine's thin veneer collection only showcases one of its specialties. The company is also known for its work with boulders, bluestone, wallstone and gravel, just to name a few of the other materials to choose from.
For those who aren’t sure where to start, the Brandywine team can help guide clients through the whole process: “We like to be as open as possible and communicate every step of the way, from the beginning design and estimate phases to the delivery of the selected materials,” Taggart affirms. She also advises checking out what’s in stock and on display. “Having an outdoor display area, as well as stocking many different types of natural stone, really helps our clients see what is available, practical and most budget-conscious. They see their options in reallife lighting, and we like to teach them about the process and makeup of a natural product.”
Going above and beyond for clients is the foundation upon which Brandywine was built, and it continues to drive the team’s involvement in their community, too, just as it will for generations to come.
When you need work done on your home—expected or not—you want to know that you can trust the contractor you’ve hired to get the job done well. After all, you’re not an expert on what’s involved in services like roofing, siding or windows, and you don’t want to get taken advantage of as a result. Because of that, it’s important to choose a company that you can feel confident is reputable.
But how exactly do you know a company can be trusted?
One important factor in choosing the best contractor is longevity. Only a company that performs great work is going to be able to stick around for the long haul. That’s exactly the case with Emmons Remodeling, a company that has been offering expert care for South Jersey and the Jersey Shore area since 1996. They are a wellknown name in the region—and for good reason. Their success was built upon a reputation of honesty, integrity and good work.
band Matthew. “Only the most reputable companies are able to earn that designation.”
Besides being able to feel confident that you’ve hired a contractor you can trust, this designation benefits homeowners in a more tangible way as well. That’s because Platinum Preferred Contractors are able to offer 50-year warranties on their work— much longer than other companies can offer. According to Owens Corning’s website, “because we stand behind these warranties, we need to make sure that we are backing up the best roofers in the business.”
Emmons Remodeling has been providing interior remodeling service throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania for more than 30 years. The company has built its solid reputation on craftsmanship and exceptional customer service.
to quickly get a custom designed project without the heavy cost of a design-build process.
You can always trust Emmons to provide exceptional value and design with quality project outcomes. Now with Krista (lead designer/project planning manager), Rebecca (project design consultant), Frank (construction project manager) and Pete (director of operations) teaming up with seasoned vice president of construction Chris Kelly, key project manager Eric Gilham and 20 trade professionals, you can rest assured that your project is designed and built right. A five-year warranty and a lifetime service guarantee back up the claim of quality and craftsmanship, while providing you with peace of mind that you made the right decision.
The experts at Emmons are always ready to help you with kitchen, bathroom, additions and deck solutions. They make remodeling your home easy and affordable with exceptional financing programs and realistic pricing. Trust Emmons with your next project.
After all, the Emmons’ mission statement is: “Our customer’s experience builds our business and defines our reputation, which is one of trust, reliability, integrity and value for every customer we serve.”
In fact, the company is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor. That’s not a designation that any old company can have. Platinum Preferred Contractors are in the top tier of a premiernetwork of roofing professionals. In order to achieve this title, they must have passed a workmanship inspection, been professionally screened for financial stability and customer service, and continue to adhere to stringent guidelines set forth by Owens Corning. Fewer than 1% of roofing contractors in the United States are Owens Corning Platinum Preferred.
“It’s a title that backs up our already strong reputation,” says Stephanee Kelly, coowner of the company along with her hus-
As the family-owned company grows, it has expanded the team that is available to help design and build your projects. Several talented remodeling industry professionals have recently joined Emmons to serve its over 6,000 existing customers and help expand the growing number of satisfied customers throughout South Jersey.
And the expertise is not limited kitchens and bathrooms. Emmons provides fullservice remodeling and construction services for additions, interior renovations, porches, decks, windows, doors and basement finishing. The design team acts as your trusted advisor to help you make the right decisions on products, materials, colors and selections. They make it easy using a proprietary curated design concept, which is an industry first. It’s an easy, affordable way
At the end of the day, your choice in roofing, siding and window contractors can be the difference between good, quality work—and a big headache. Stephanee says that the last thing Emmons wants to see is people in their local community get taken advantage of by unscrupulous roofing, siding and window contractors.
“You should be able to feel confident that you’ve chosen a contractor that you can trust— not one that is going to leave you with problems to fix after they’ve gone,” she says. “At Emmons, you are not only investing in a new roof, new siding or new windows—you’re investing in peace of mind.”

kitchens that families will enjoy for years to come.
But, while the excitement of a remodeled kitchen can be thrilling, Matteo stresses things have changed quite a bit since the company first entered into the industry.
“Back in the day, when we opened up our doors, we’d have people come in with a drawing on a napkin, and in 20 minutes we had a kitchen design. White kitchens with oak or cherry cabinets and Formica countertops is what you got. We kept it simple, it didn’t have all the bells and whistles that you have today,” says Matteo.
“Today it’s a process, and we tell people don’t rush the process,” adds Matteo. “Other than purchasing a home, it’s one of the most expensive purchases that you’ll ever make. And it’s a very important purchase because it increases the value of your home, so you want to make sure you do it right.”
But homeowners shouldn’t stress either, because the Matteo Family Kitchens team is well-equipped to guide you through the process. The company will visit you at your home to discuss a project and continues to measure, offer consultation and design work for free. This helps homeowners narrow down the seemingly endless options to transform their kitchen.
It all starts with choosing an overall design, then moving on to picking out cabinet and countertop styles, before selecting flooring and then finally handling finishing touches like the hardware for cabinets, etc.
SWHEN HE, ALONG WITH HIS BROTHER TOM AND THEIR MOTHER AND FATHER ELAINE AND EVERETT JOINED IN IN AN EFFORT TO DETERMINE THE NAME FOR THEIR NEW KITCHEN REMODELING BUSINESS. Trying to find something clever or unique that would grab the attention of potential clients eventually led them to a more simplistic, yet effective, solution. And from there, Matteo Family Kitchens was born.
Matteo credits his father with having both the vision and foresight to attach the family name to their business, especially since it immediately instilled a sense of pride in and ownership of their work.
“We were looking at names, trying to come up with something cool, and my father said it should be Matteo Family Kitchens. After all, we are a family, and if someone says something negative about the Matteos, you’re going to take it personally,” Matteo recalls.
Now, nearly three decades since getting their start, the Matteo name has become synonymous with quality craftsmanship and the highest level of customer service, helping countless homeown-
And the company has adapted and evolved along the way in an effort to continually exceed client expectations. Never was that more evident than during the COVID-19 pandemic, when interest in home remodeling projects spiked tremendously. Trying to keep up with the high demand while juggling supply chain issues, rising material costs and an unstable workforce was certainly no easy task, but Matteo says things have normalized quite a bit of late.
“[In the early days of the pandemic,] people were working from home, there were limited vacations and travel bans, so folks were staring at the same four walls 24 hours a day and said, ‘Let’s get some things done [around the house].’ It was really fast and furious,” he says. “We were so geared up to be juggling a lot of projects at once, and now we are back to reality and where things used to be.”
With COVID’s lockdown firmly in the rearview mirror, Matteo Family Kitchens has been able to sidestep the issues that were so daunting during the pandemic and gotten back to focusing solely on creating one-of-a-kind
“There’s just a lot more attention to detail today. And we like our client base to work with us and take it step by step. There’s so many things [to consider], we always tell people take your time—I can’t say that loud enough—and let’s walk through all the bullet points to make sure everyone understands what’s going on,” says Matteo.
Once the project is ready to get started, clients can trust that Matteo Family Kitchens uses only the finest materials and products from leading manufacturers. Aside from the name recognition, Matteo says these larger companies offer topof-the-line products that also are backed by a warranty, assuring the customer will be taken care of should they not perform as designed.
“If our name is on it, we want to make sure the products we are selling come from companies who are going to stand behind it as well,” Matteo affirms.
It’s all further evidence of Matteo Family Kitchens’ commitment to its clients. The company treats every job—no matter how big or small—with the same care and dedication to produce a final result they can be proud of and that homeowners will cherish.
“If you come out of your way to walk into our front door, we are super happy,” says Matteo. “We understand you committed to us and we want to prove our commitment to you and your project. We appreciate the opportunity to show what we can do for you.”

Santangelo Contracting helps clients make outdoor dream spaces a reality with top products and personal service.
Santangelo Contracting will bring luxury living to your outdoor spaces. Whether it’s a beautiful poolside pergola, a relaxing outdoor sauna or a patio with a built-in firepit—if a customer can dream it, the Santangelo team can do it, all with high-quality products and an attention to detail that can’t be matched.
“We’re a luxury outdoor living company,” owner Michael Santangelo says. “We do patios, pergolas, pools, outdoor wellness spots, synthetic turf, dog runs—anything that’s outside, but more on the upscale side of things.”
The Blue Bell-based business was founded in 2019, and in just five short years it has established itself as a top regional outdoor contractor, even winning Rookie of the Year at the Philadelphia Home & Garden Show in 2024.
According to Santangelo, two things are key to his company’s success—his team’s attention to detail and, as a family-owned business, the fact that customers are working directly with

Santangelo himself or his wife, Kerrin.
“There’s a foreman on-site, but as far as conception to the end of your project, I’m 100% available,” Santangelo says. “It can get confusing if you’re dealing with too many people. If it’s the same person, everything gets communicated the proper way.”
Being a family-owned and -operated business also means the Santangelo Contracting team has an easier time connecting with clients. “We have an understanding of their needs,” Santangelo says.
This includes recognizing the value of a dollar—especially in today’s economy.
“With money being tight right now, we know how to give them a little bit more value,” Santangelo says, “and some big companies don’t understand that.”
When a new client reaches out to Santangelo Contracting, things start with a conversation and project renderings. The company offers these designs in 2D and 3D format—along with a virtual reality component. Clients can wear a VR headset that allows them to “walk around” the design.
“They can hear the water, the birds. They can really see the design we’ve done,” Santangelo says. “We’re the only people in the area doing that, so it’s nice we can offer it for our clients.”
space. Santangelo Contracting can install any lighting project imaginable: recessed lights, deck lights, lights brightening up a pathway, lights built into hardscaping, bistro lighting, spotlights; the options really are endless.
Luxury living deserves the best, and that’s exactly what Santangelo Contracting delivers to its clients. The company uses state-of-the-art equipment and the best in materials and products, ensuring their projects shine.
For instance, Techo-Bloc paving products and Kennedy Blue Mountain Stone concrete products are a favorite of Santangelo’s, and for good reason.
“They’re companies that we feel their attention to detail and the products that they make are just heads above everything else. Their material is just top-notch,” he says. “And for us as installers, we like to deal with a company that has the same ethics as us. They offer a high-end product at great prices.”
Keeping up that personal connection with clients is key to success, according to Santangelo, which is why he’s out on the job sites most days of the week.
Projects range from landscape design and installation to hardscaping and masonry. The former includes sod installation, top soiling and seeding, tree and shrub planting, mulching and fencing, whereas the latter covers everything from fire pits and pools to outdoor kitchens and water features—and so much more. Santangelo Contracting designs and installs synthetic turf—think backyard putting greens or dog runs—and can help troubleshoot, too, such as in correcting a backyard drainage issue.
Another company focus is lighting; a surefire way to add an upscale feel to an outdoor living
“Whether it’s hands-on helping lay the pavers or talking over a change, I want to be there for the clients,” he says.
Even the most carefully planned project could need changes in the moment. A client may have planned for square edges on a patio, but in seeing the project come to life they may start wondering about rounded edges.
With Santangelo and his wife at the ready, that’s no problem.
“If there are decisions made on the fly,” he says, “we are around to be able to do that for our clients.”
We are excited to present our ninth annual Best of
