THE TOP TEN THINGS WE LOVE THIS WEEK!
COVER STORY
Magic from Downunder comes to Miami
T
he Naked Magicians, the world’s naughtiest and funniest magic show, is coming to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. Starring the clever and seductive Mike
Tyler and Christopher Wayne, two of Australia’s most famous magicians, The Naked Magicians combines magic and muscles with riotous laughs that take magic to a whole new level. This is the show that strips away the top
hats and capes to deliver full-frontal illusions. The show takes place inside the Center’s John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall on Sunday, June 4, 2017. “Good magicians don’t need sleeves and great magicians don’t need pants,” says Tyler. “Deliciously naughty” and “my cheeks still hurt from laughing so much” are among the most common online posts from audience members of sold-out shows in Australia, Great Britain and Asia. The Sunday Herald declares The Naked Magicians as “definitely one of the most visually stimulating magic shows in the world,” and Fringe Review UK says “we were left with laugh-induced aching jaws.” The 31-year old buff bros went from best friends to partners in prestidigitation in 2014 following several boisterous audience members asking them to make their clothes disappear. “It’s kind of crazy because magic is the second-oldest profession ever and we couldn’t believe that no one had combined the two things that everyone loves — magic and nudity,” says Wayne.
The Aussie duo have been performing magic for nearly 20 years. The broad-shouldered Wayne, a proud owner of a freakishly long tongue, is the first Australian magician in TV history to have his own TV series. More Than Magic aired in Australia, New Zealand, England, as well as the United States. The sporty tan lines and incredible physique seen on stage hint at Tyler’s Speedo-wearing days. He swam competitively at the Australian National Championships and Pan Pacific Games before becoming a professional magician for corporate events around the world. “Being on stage doing magic without relying on pockets or sleeves does add that extra challenge and ups our game,” Wayne says. “When we say ‘abracadabra,’ the audience isn’t always looking at our hands,” Tyler jokes. Tickets to The Naked Magicians start at $29 and are available at the Adrienne Arsht Center Box Office, by calling 305-949-6722, or online at ArshtCenter.org. This adult 18+ show includes coarse language, sexual references and some nudity. 4For more info on Mike and Chris, visit their website, NakedMagicians.com.
The best chatter on Facebook this week “It’s 2017 and they should be treated the exact same way as I’m treating everyone else… A network show where you have gay people dating? I think it’s great.”
——ANDY COHEN, host of the new Love Connection on the Fox Network, referring to the inclusion of gay couples. The show is a revival of the 1980s show of the same name which was hosted by Chuck Woolery.
“I am disappointed that Qantas [Airlines] has become an active promoter for same-sex marriage. I believe in marriage as a union between a man and a woman as stated in the Bible.” —MARGARET COURT, Australian tennis legend, in a letter to the airline explaining why she would no longer be flying the airline.
“He’s an embarrassment to America… I think certainly his lack of interest in continuing the process of supporting equality in all areas is something that people will look at. That obviously has an effect in America and around the world. Hate crimes against LGBT people – especially transgender people, especially against people of color – have rocketed, and of course they would because you have someone who condones those attacks through silence.”” —ALAN CUMMING, Good Wife star and LGBT activist, who is bisexual, speaking to CBS about President Donald Trump prior to hosting the Village Voice Pride Awards recently in New York.
“If you are in the closet and also an athlete and you’re reading this, I want you to know that coming out is not as scary as you make it out to be. It is the most relieving experience you’ll ever come to term with. You finally get to be yourself and show people that the LGBT community knows how to play ball too.”
——WYATT PERTUSETT, telling his coming out story to outsports. com as a top player for North Union High School in the small town of Richwood, Ohio. He will be playing next season on the Capital University football team.
“We have waited so long…It was not easy, but after all, we won.”
—VICTORIA HSU, lead counsel, speaking to BuzzFeed after she was victorious in winning a case which makes same-sex marriage legal in Taiwan. 20 | Hotspots.LGBT

L
ast Monday the World AIDS Museum and Educational Center (WAM) in Wilton Manors, the first of its kind in the world, celebrated its third anniversary at Bona Italian Restaurant.
Seen there was Glen Weinzimer (co-owner of Bona and Smart Ride Director), Keith Willard, Ed Sparan and the CEO of WAM, Hugh Beswick. Congrats to WAM and wishing you many more years of success documenting and teaching the history of HIV/AIDS.
Later that night I headed over to Village Pub for their
annual Mr. Village Pub pageant where Efrain Reyes was crowned. While watching the pageant I ran into some good friends including Antonio Edwards, Albie of Progress Bar, Alexis Couture (Miss Boardwalk), Erika Lichter, Amands & Jorge, Ernie, Shardee Ross and, of course, Malik Diamond and Kataleya Davenport (Miss and Mr. Village Pub 2016).
On Tuesday, The GFLGLCC Greater Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (GFLGLCC) along with Northwestern Mutual presented their quarterly luncheon on board the luxury yacht, Anticipation. Aboard the beautiful yacht we mingled with Steve Shires (Shires Photography), Mike Trottier (realtor and sales manager at SFGN), Robert Bullock (Broward House), Steve McAleer (realtor and president
of Impulse Group), Miik, Shawn and JW (Pride Fort Lauderdale), and Hotspots' own, Anthony Verrico and Andrew LaRochelle. Congrats to Keith Blackburn and Ronny on another fabulous luncheon!
Wednesday evening I was lucky enough to be invited by my friends at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts to the Idina Menzel concert. I have always liked Idina Menzel, but when I saw her in concert about four years ago, I started loving her. This concert was even better than the last one. She is an amazing story teller and has a voice from heaven. Seen at the concert were Rod Hagwood (Sun-Sentinel) and his hubby Gary, Howard Marr of Fabscout and many more from our fabulous community.
Everything you need to plan your week Ok, so we all heard about the drama with World Outgames, but I would like to personally
thank the City of Miami Beach, and everyone else that helped them (way too many to mention) that came in and saved the event. It may not have ended up perfect, but it happened and its happening as you read this and that's what counts. On Saturday night we started the night at Boardwalk where we saw adult film star Eddy Ceetee perform as he did all weekend as part of Boardwalk's Memorial day extravaganza.
Afterwards we headed over to Hunters Nightclub for their monthly D.I.L.F Party, where this month's theme was “Commando” and starred DJ Chomper who made the sexy daddies and their admirers stay on the dance floor! On Sunday I started the afternoon at Scandals for their monthly Lady Fancy's Gospel Jubilee and it was so nice to see as you walked in veterans sitting outside and taking donations. We all party this
weekend, but its nice to be reminded what's it's all about and that we have to thank and respect our veterans who fought for our freedom! The show starred Lady Fancy, along
with Candy Cox, Doug Blevins, Nancy Ross, RaeJean Cox, and Dan Larrimore. This is a good ole fashion Southern Gospel show that happens the last Sunday of every month, so check it out, as it's so much fun!
Afterwards I headed over to Georgie's Alibi/Monkey Bar for the premiere of Crazy Daisy's PTown T Dance starring Daisy Deadpetals with this week's special guest Erika Norell. She played lots of fun games (Ex: Pin the male anatomy part on the sexy dance…that's not exactly what they called it, but this is a PG magazine) and VJ Barry Browder was in on all the hijinks. This is sure to take off as it was hysterical! Later that night, I headed over to Gary Santis' 19th annual White Fort Lauderdale event which starred DJ/Producer Tracy Young and direct from RuPaul's Drag race All Stars Alyssa Edwards. The
club was a sea of white sexy men dancing to the wee hours of the morning. While there I saw Benjamin Martinez and his partner, Fred De La Cruz and his hubby, Many Ru Paul girls out of drag including Serena Cha Cha, Rebecca Glasscock, and CoCo Montrese, The Tsygan Twins, DJ Alex Infiniti and many more! It is clear to say that Gary Santis had another success!

RE-CAP EPISODE 10

Since Shea and Sasha won the challenge last week, they got to choose which queen was paired with which crew member. There was no shade there, as they decide to pair the queens up with the crew member they truly feel is best for them. On the runway, they have to perform with the crew member they were paired up with. In the end Sasha and Trinity rose to the top with Trinity winning the challenge. Peppermint and Alexis were safe

and Nina and Shea were in the bottom two, with Nina Bonina Brown sashaying away. Here's our exit interview with Nina:
Q: At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name? A: I don't remember, but it was definitely in my teen years, probably around 16. My name was chosen randomly. Nina came to me in a dream, and once I started performing someone screamed the name Bonina, so I added it to my name and then I added Brown.
Q: How many times did you apply to be on RuPaul's Drag Race? How did it feel when
you found out you got chosen? A: I applied five times, and it was bittersweet when I finally got chosen.
Q: Is there additional pressure now that RuPaul has been on for eight seasons and two all-star seasons? A: I think so, as we were all trying our best to be nice and be on point. We have seen how the nastiness and pettiness comes across on TV.
Q: Tell us about your RuPaul's Drag Race experience? A: It was definitely an experience with lots of ups and downs (ok, more downs), but I wouldn't change it for anything as it gave me a tremendous opportunity to put myself out there
Q: Did you start off doing regular drag and then get into the character make-up? How
did that happen? A: Yes, I did. I have always been an artist and Phoenix (RuPaul alumni) had a competition in Atlanta, and there was a Disney challenge and I did Ursula and after that I kept experimenting with characters. Q: You are so talented, but suffered from self-doubt/depression, is that better now? A: Not really, but I know it should be should. I have gotten a little better.
Q: Who do you want to win? A: Trinity, because she proved to everyone that's she is not just a pageant queen. Q: Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you. A:. That I am a top.
Q: What's ahead for Nina? A: I don't know. I am going slow, but the doors are opening and I am trying to decide which doors to walk through. I have to decide which one is going to take me to the next level. For more information on Nina, catch her on social media at Facebook.com/ninaboninabrown or Instagram.com/nina_bonina_brown

Athena Dion What was the first drag show you saw?
Tell us about the experience? Well, there was a weekend when I was just barely 18 and my good girlfriend decided to take me to a few gay clubs since I had never been to one before. We hit up the Coliseum in Ft. Lauderdale on a Friday and then Azucar in Miami on a Saturday, and all I wanted to do was watch the shows. Shortly after that, I went to Discotekka and saw Vegas Dion perform and completely shut down the club! I think she did Show Me Love. When she finished, she proceeded to grab the microphone and demand the crowd applause 68 | Hotspots.LGBT
louder, and did they ever! I was completely “shook in my skinny jeans! She terrified me and aroused me all at the same time. I think that's when the drag bug really sunk its teeth into me. Of course, that night I also saw TP Lords perform and Gina Diangelo, and I was sold! After that I became such a big drag fan and drag junkie, I needed a fix every weekend! When did you decide you wanted to do
drag and when did you realize it would be a profession? Drag was calling my name from birth. In my youth, probably like many other young gay
mom's clothes, fascinated by her makeup, trying it on when no one was around, kissing the mirror with lipstick, etc. It wasn't until after the brutality of puberty and the glorious postcoming out era that I realized I could actually play dress-up in real life, too. It was after ending a relationship with a very famous local drag queen that I started to dive into drag myself. Fresh out the gate I got booked at the hottest club in Ft. Lauderdale at the time, Living Room nightclub, as the door hostess. Working that door and interacting with the club-goers came like second nature to me. I loved the attention, I loved the interaction, I loved the persona and the people's response! I resonated very well with the community and my popularity began to rise. One thing led to another and I was starting to get more work in drag and that's when I realized I didn't want to give this new-found hobby up anytime soon.

Why We Love Her! She comes from Drag Royalty
Who is your drag mother and who is your
favorite queen other than your drag mother - and why? My drag parents and biggest mentors and idols are Vegas Dion and Erika Norell. Their creativity, originality, versatility and stage presence are like no other. They are the best in the biz in my eyes and I feel like I'm a good combo of the two of them. We share so much in common on stage and off stage and we really have an amazing family dynamic. I am very proud of them and all of their accomplishments and so thankful to have had their guidance throughout my life. But, my absolute favorite drag queen since my youth has been Adora. She is literally the only drag
She has so many different looks, its mind boggling
She is so good on the microphone
She always gives back to the community, donating her time to charity. Her recent give back a t the burn unit at a hospital had tears in my eyes when I saw it on Facebook.
favorite artist, I really don't perform her much. My guilty drag pleasure is a good Cher impersonator! What's the best thing that has happened
to you in drag? This is a tough question. Drag has taught me a lot about myself and what I value personally and in the people around me. I have met tons of celebs in the club scene, and I was even fortunate enough to have Leona Lewis sing happy birthday to me a few years ago. I also got a chance to meet and chat with Chaz Bono. Last year, some of my sisters and I ended up on national TV featured on America's Got Talent with the opportunity to impersonate the Spice Girls. That was so cool. awesome, but I feel like the best and most rewarding has been the power I have found though drag to change lives. Recently I worked with Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn unit and had a “Glam Day” with some of their burn survivors. These girls had suffered from severe burn damage and the center invited me in to show some makeup tips and basically have a fun makeup day. Well, it turned into much more than that. It was an amazing experience that opened my eyes to the power I possess as a drag queen and as a person. It goes beyond the fame and the glamor when I realized I can actually make a real lasting difference in people's lives with what I do! That realization, inspiration, and motivation has been the best thing to happen to me in drag, to date.
a more meaningful path. Working with the burn survivors really changed my focus, and I want to use everything I have learned and my platform to expand the visibility onto heavier issues. I feel we have so many talented people in our community and if we focus those talents in the right way, we can change the world together. There's no better time to change the world than the present!
What differentiates you from
other Queens (Makes you Unique)? I'm the people's queen! The main thing that sets me apart is my personality and my love to be a hostess! I really get my thrills from being in a crowd of people, meeting everyone, talking, asking questions, taking shots together. I love to perform and be on stage but much more than that I'm a people's queen. I love to be in the mix. It's so bad that my close friends hate going out with me because I never stand in one place, I'm always bouncing around talking to everyone! But I think that makes for a good host, and a good party… to be social, make them feel welcome, and be the person that they want to come out and have a good time with! Thankfully it comes naturally to me. What does the future hold?
The future is so bright! I look back and see the footprints I have left in the sand, and I look forward and see a never-ending shore! I can honestly say I see a shift from my work from the nightlife world onto 70 | Hotspots.LGBT

ila Jam will perform her new single, Faces, at Score Bar on Friday, June 9. The song celebrates individual beauty, self-acceptance and everyone's right to belong. “We all wear our plastic smiles out in the world while inside, we hide our true fears and loathing and feelings of inadequacy,” says the transgender Youtube sensation-turnedrecording artist from her home in New York. “Faces is about staring boldly into that mirror and realizing that we do belong, we are enough, and someone will love us for who we really are.” Though confident as a child and always secure in herself as a person, Mila admits she sometimes found it difficult to stare boldly into the mirror and appreciate what she saw. “I had a hard time understanding why so many people judged me for being different. I didn't fully understand my identity and how I would become the woman I am today. I held on, though, and that can be hard in itself… but you must.” She says she grew to realize she was enough and that she did belong when she met other gorgeous, gifted, empowering and hardworking trans women like her close sisters Laverne Cox, Trace Lysette and RuPaul's Drag Race season 9 queen Peppermint, all of whom appear in the Faces music video. Other notable names in the music video include Unbreakable's Titus Burgess, Candis Cayne, and Transparent's Zackary Drucker. “I love all my ladies,” she shouts out. Mila Jam is world-renowned for her one-ofa-kind videos and stage performances. She has performed alongside James Brown, Mark Ronson, Jody Watley, and Natasha Bedingfield. She even toured internationally with the Broadway musical, Rent. Surprisingly, her performance at Score will be Mila's first time eve performing Miami. “I'm so excited,” she continues. “I love Miami, the sun and the culture…such diversity and beauty! And the beach! I can't wait to meet new people and make new friends. I love all that you are, Miami, and all of your faces.”

TIM MOFFITT MEANS BUSINESS
î “e new gay president of the WMBA is a fierce advocate for small businesses
BY PETER JACKSON
T
im Moffitt, the newlyelected president of the Wilton Manors Business Association (WMBA), hails from the small Ohio river town of East Liverpool. He attended Miami University (of Ohio) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business. Tim worked in the banking industry in Columbus for almost 25 years prior to moving to Fort Lauderdale in 2013, where he has since been affiliated with a small private company named FlashBanc. FlashBanc is a leader in the electronic payments industry, specializing in merchant processing and payment solutions for businesses of all sizes. In his free time, Tim enjoys two-stepping and line dancing, and helped organize a country/western competition dance team with many of the dancers at Scandals Saloon who competed in the World OutGames in Miami over the Memorial Day weekend. Among other community activities, Tim is also a diplomat for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. Tim Moffitt, president of the Wilton Manors Business Association.

Q: Congratulations on your election as president of the WMBA. What are the major initiatives of the WMBA under your leadership? A: Collectively we’re going to decide together what those initiatives will be, what we are going to do as an organization and what role we want to play within the city of Wilton Manors. We are having a retreat for the Board of Directors coming up. With the help of a third party facilitator, we’ll be breaking down, bit by bit and piece by piece, what we did in the past that worked and what didn’t, what we want for today, and where do we want to go in the future. As the president, it is my job to make sure we establish that vision and stay on track as we continue through 2017 and into 2018. I will make sure we remain a stable organization in the community and grow right along with the city of Wilton Manors as it continues its growth.
1
Q: How exactly does membership benefit business owners? A: Membership in WMBA gives business owners the opportunity to network with other business owners who live and operate in and around Wilton Manors. We have an evening networking event on a monthly basis which is hosted by one of our members. It’s an evening of networking and sharing that members look forward to. We also have a monthly luncheon, held at a member’s restaurant or business, with the opportunity to network and share time and a meal with fellow business owners. In addition to net-

working events and other special events throughout the year, we publish a member directory, 10,000 copies, and mail 6,000 of them to local residents while the remainding copies are available at many of the businesses on the Drive. Each year we sponsor a business expo and allow our members to have a free booth. We’re very involved in the community as well, so look for our booth at the Stonewall Pride Festival on June 17. As far as I’m aware, it’s the best bang for your buck for any business organization in South Florida. Basic membership is only $75 for the year, and that includes being listed in the annual directory as well as our online directory.
Q: Wilton Drive is the nerve center of Fort Lauderdale’s LGBT community, yet the failure rate of businesses on that one-mile stretch appears unusually high. How do you explain this? A: I know what you mean. I see it too and it’s easy to feel disappointed and wonder why. I have my own personal belief as a result of being in banking for 24+ years and working with many business owners during that time, watching them open and close. I don’t believe that being on the Drive, in and of itself, is the reason why businesses there have failed. We in the LGBT community support the businesses that come into Wilton Manors. I think it has more to do with the business itself. I’ve heard it said that 80% of all new businesses fail within the first five years. Many of the new businesses that we see come and go are falling into

I don’t believe that being on the Drive, in and of itself, is the reason why businesses there have failed... that category, for a variety of reasons. They may need guidance and assistance on operating a new business. This is where WMBA comes in. One of the initiatives I see for WMBA is to be an informational resource for new businesses. WMBA should be one of the first places they come when they open their business. They can come to us to see what’s going on with the Drive, learn what city government is planning, and make sure they understand the city ordinances for signage and parking, for instance. They can come to us with questions and concerns about business in general. We want to be the “go to” informational resource for all Wilton Manors businesses and if we can help them in any way to keep their doors open, we will do our best. Q: Would the WMBA support a proposal to place certain restrictions on what type of business can open on the Drive, particularly in the bar and restaurant categories? A: I would never speak on behalf of WMBA on any subject or proposal like this without their consent. This would be something that our organization would definitely discuss and if we

felt necessary, would make our opinion known through the appropriate channels. But I can honestly say that more than likely we would not take a stance either way. WMBA is made up of many businesses, including many bars and restaurants. We support all of the businesses that join our organization. We don’t get involved in politics. I look at WMBA more as an informational and educational resource for businesses to belong to and get involved. This is something that I think could be worked out with the bars and restaurants and WMBA wouldn’t need to be involved.
Q: What is your hope for the WMBA? How would you like to see the non-profit grow? A: I like this question. Over the past year as vice president, I was able to watch our then president, Karl Lentzer, do his job -- and very well I might add, and I would say to myself what am I going to do? How will I be able to do as he had done for the past two years and how will I make it my own? I decided right out of the gate to have the retreat as I had mentioned earlier, which I feel will set the tone for my reign as president. Once we see our strengths and weaknesses as a board of directors and see how we complement each other, the sky’s the limit. I want the board to be a cohesive group of professionals who realize that together we can do anything! With hundreds of businesses in the Wilton Manors area and many more in the surrounding communities that also join WMBA, we have so much potential to grow our membership. We have members who own businesses in neighboring communities like Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale, who are members of WMBA, too. These members live and work in and around Wilton Manors and see value in belonging to WMBA. There’s something for every business. I would like to see WMBA continue to be the premier “go to” business organization for Wilton Manors businesses. We’ve been around a long time and have so much to offer. I believe our organization will continue to grow with the growth of the city of Wilton Manors.

WHAT’S EXERCISE
GOTThreeTO DO WITH IT? reasons
why a little exercise can make a big difference By Tom Bonanti
Without a doubt exercise can make a massive difference in your life. It’s the best way to burn fat, build muscle, increase flexibility, and preserve bone density. It’s also a given that working out can alleviate depression and anxiety, help you think clearer, and fortify self- esteem. Did you also know that currently there are many theories that claim that exercise can boost your immune system?
HOT BODIES linked to increased fat storage, fatigue, and lower testosterone levels in men. Regular exercise, even as little as 20 minutes per day has been shown to reduce cortisol and protect the body’s immune system from disease. 3) Exercise revs up your metabolism to fight against infections. When you move, your circulatory system moves with you. This causes infection fighting white blood cells and antibodies to pulsate through your blood stream more quickly, meaning that they can attack and defeat infections and pathogens more quickly as well! Also, the faster pace of breathing during exercise helps expel a lot of bad bacteria from your nose, throat and lungs. While you should never exercise while you’re ill (fever, chills, cough), it may prove to be your best defense against pesky bugs and infections in the long run. HERE’S WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: 1) Exercise raises body temperature. Bacteria and viruses require a warm environment to thrive, but too much heat can kill them. That’s why you spike a fever (the body’s natural response) when you’re ill. An increase in body temperature caused by exercise may help you fight off infections. It appears that staying active is not only an ideal plan to combat the cold and flu season, it’s a perfect way to maintain your vim and vigor all year long! 2) Exercise reduces cortisol levels. Cortisol is produced in the body by stress, bad eating habits, a sedentary lifestyle, and a host of other factors. This nasty hormone has been
Be careful not to overdo it. A moderate exercise program is more than sufficient to fortify your immune system. Regular walking, cycling, swimming, weight training or even participation in a sport can bolster your immunity against disease. Over-training just to produce a super-duper effect on your immune system can prove to be counter- productive. Such an approach could take its toll on your muscles and joints by taxing them too extremely. Adhere to a regular exercise program, challenge yourself, have fun and stay well! . uTom Bonanti is a personal trainer and licensed massage. P
resident Trump’s goal to fill cabinet positions only with people who are diametrically opposed to what said cabinet is supposed to do continues. This time he’s tapped Charmaine Yoest to be assistant secretary of public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services. Yoest is an anti-abortion extremist who, in addition to her wild ideas about a woman’s right to choose what happens to her own body, has some pretty crazy views on things like sex and sexuality (funny how being antichoice and anti-LGBTQ so often go together). Before I get too far ahead of myself, however, I should explain what HHS is and does. Or, rather, I’ll let HHS explain in words from its own website: “The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services protects the health of all Americans and provides essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves.” It would be more accurate to replace the word “protects” with “formerly protected” because they certainly do not care about that now. It’s bad enough that Tom “gay marriage is sad marriage” Price is the head of HHS. He’s also anti-choice and has a great big boner over the potential destruction of the Affordable Care Act which would literally cause people, primarily the poor and the sick, to lose their insurance, therefore losing their access to health care, and therefore dying. HHS has essentially abandoned the “health” and the “human” parts of its name. But now Trump has plucked Yoest from the cesspool of misinformation and bigotry that is the Family Research Council to spread the gospel of “contraception doesn’t work” and “breast cancer is caused by abortions” in the federal government. In 2006 she appeared on a Fox News
segment about pending legislation in New York City to allow transgender men and women to change their birth certificates. She was against it, saying that birth certificates represent “what actually happened in real life,” essentially dismissing transgender people as living in some kind of fantasy world. She also accused transgender people of trying to “redefine what normal is” and said she didn’t want to share a restroom with trans women. Her husband, Jack, also seems delightful. In a blog post about that Fox appearance he lamented the fact that his wife was “forced into debating a trany of some stripe.” Note that tranny is not only pejorative, but he spelled it wrong. In 2007 she debated Freedom to Marry’s Evan Wolfson on MSNBC and sprouted bullshit claims that research showed that children were harmed when raised by same-sex couples. She made the same claim ten years earlier on CNN and in 2006 on NPR. Her backwards thinking is especially dangerous when it comes to HIV/AIDS prevention. She once said that advising people to wear condoms for protection was “ shockingly irresponsible” and “absolutely insane” because condoms don’t have a 100% success rate. She especially didn’t want teenagers to use condoms. “Where are we going to go when teens get this disease, using a condom, and they say, you know, ‘But my government told me that I was going to be safe’?” The obvious answer is that we need comprehensive sex education so that sexually active teens learn about the actual risks involved with condoms and other types of contraception. But, of course, Yoest is against that, too. If knowledge is power, then the Trump Administration is the weakest in history. Yoest will fit right in.. Pelucas, tacones y lentejuelas, directed by Lilo Vilaplana, is the story of Mesmé, the first Cuban transvestite. Dear Mom is a poignant story of the strained relationship between a gay teenager and his mother. Miguel Sahid directs the dramedy Malaise: Macho Boys in Limbo, a gay/straight odyssey. Manny Rosario brings us the tragic comedy of Pedro the Drag Queen. The season Out of the Container performs every Thursday through Sunday from May 25th to June 25th in the following sessions: Prime Time Thursday to Saturday, 8p.m. a 11p.m Golfa session Friday and Saturday from 11p.m. to 1a.m. and Sunday from 8p.m. to 11p.m. Microtheater Miami is a program of Centro Cultural Español CCEMiami and supported in part by the Miami Dade County Tourist Development Council and many sponsors.

NEED WOOD
TEA BAGGING By Woody Miller
H
ey Woody! Is it true that tea is bad for your libido? Say it isn’t so! --- Tea for Two. Or more
y Dear Tea: Some researchers suspect that the estrogen levels found in tea are as high as the levels found in George Michael’s dressing room. Meaning, you won’t be able to get it up unless you’re in a sk-nky public toilet waving your d--k at an undercover cop. Researchers suspect, though they have no real evidence, that tea’s estrogen levels may be high enough to disrupt male hormones temporarily, causing a loss of libido. The key words here are “suspect” and “temporary.” No one knows for sure. But if you’ve got a hot date planned I’d stay away from it.
Hey Woody! This is going to sound like a weird question for a gay sex advice column but I need advice on how to talk about “the birds and the bees” to my kids. My lover and I are at a loss as to how to bring the subject up and what’s appropriate to say. --- Gay Dads
Dear Dads: You’re looking for something *appropriate* to say to your kids and you came to ME? Man, that kind of optimism should be framed. All right, here’s The Birds & The Bees, Woody-style: A man sticks his erect penis in a vagina and that’s where babies come from. A man sticks his erect penis in a woman’s mouth and that’s where jewelry comes from. A man sticks his erect penis in another man’s mouth and that’s where heaven comes from. Just in case you wanted something more serious, I asked my grumpy advisors what they thought. Here’s what they recommended telling your kids: Talk to them early. Age 10 or 11 is too late. Talk to them often. Like sex itself, once is not enough. Take advantage of “teachable moments”— running into a pregnant neighbor, seeing a TV program, etc.—that can be springboard into a discussion. Tell them to run. When they turn 18 and they see me coming, it’s the only advisable thing to do. Also, use resources like Planned Parenthood’s Talking About Sex kit, which includes a videotape and booklets: www.plannedparenthood.org/parents/talking-to-kids-about-sexand-sexuality
uAsk Woody a question at needwood@mac.com. Want more dating tips? Check out Woody’s book, Meet The Hottie in The Corner. The 21 Day Plan To Overcome Your Fear Of Rejection, Master The Art Of Icebreakers And Snag Guys You Never Thought You Could Get. http://grabhim.net/gay-dating-guides/
