From My Desk... I keep hoping for better times, less worries, more health, less crime less violence,

less hunger, less abuse, and I say less because we could hope for none at all, but that is a whole other story. I have felt loss, and dispair, I even felt no hope at all, but life always shows me a brighter day, and my Faith takes over changing it all. I am an optimistic and a believer that everything will be better, and that everyone will lend a hand, or help and even care. I hope... to see a better world. One thing I got to taste, eternal undying love. And I am thankful for that. We hope you enjoy this issue we have tons of creativity, talent, success and endless beauty. A Palavra e o Poeta

Misty

Autor: Nilton Bustamante

“Jesus Christ Superstar,” the global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for over 40 years, is reimagined for the 21st century as an arena-rock spectacular. The biggest ever North American arena tour of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s groundbreaking rock musical is coming to Orlando at the Amway Center on Saturday, June 14 with an extraordinary cast of rock, pop and R&B superstars.

2013. The Times said, “The show gets the right balance between the spectacular, the jokey and the sincere. The performances from the well-choreographed supporting cast are fine throughout. Honestly, it’s enough to give rock opera a good name.” The Evening Chronicle exclaimed, “the extravagance of the production, a flamboyant spectacle of acrobatics, dramatic flames and provocative pole dancing,” and Liverpool Daily Post claimed, “Restored to its rock roots, the star-studded second coming of Jesus Christ Superstar is big, brash and bold…” and the Manchester Evening News stated, “from the very opening strains the pounding music, the huge and sophisticated video backdrops and pulsating energy from a talented ensemble cast make this a true spectacle.”

Orlando Philharmonic’s Stages Verdi’s La Traviata On May 9 & 11, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will produce Verdi’s romantic opera, La Traviata, at Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre (401 W. Livingston Street, Orlando). Performances will be Friday, May 9 at 8 p.m. and Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20-$82, available at 407-770-0071 or visit OrlandoPhil.org. Set in the ornate salons of 19th century Paris, La Traviata (“The Fallen Woman”) tells the story of Violetta, a famed courtesan who enjoys her carefree life, but longs for passion. She falls deeply in love with a young respectable nobleman, but their affair is cut short by his family’s disapproval and her frail health. Most will recognize the plot of La Traviata from its adaptation for Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 Australian-American jukebox musical Moulin Rouge! and J. F. Lawton’s classic 1990 movie Pretty Woman, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, also based on Alexandre Dumas’ 1848 novel The Lady of the Camellias.

Conducted by Orlando Philharmonic Music Director Christopher Wilkins and staged by Frank McClain, the orchestra’s production will star Cuban American soprano Elizabeth Caballero as Violetta. Caballero has been hailed as one of the leading sopranos on the scene today. Her recent performances of Violetta received raves including The Daily Page declaring, “With a lovely voice, she has a compelling sense of drama. As she puts the role through its paces, she creates a Violetta of passion and vulnerability, able to move from a conflicted sense of herself, through cruel sacrifices, to profound commitments. Even before her death scene, this Violetta is really heart-wrenching. Tenor Brian Jagde, a force in his own right, will perform the role of Alfredo, while the imposing baritone Stephen Powell takes the role of Alfredo’s father, Giorgio. Other cast members include Samantha Barnes Daniel (“Flora”), Gabriel Preisser (“Baron Douphol”), Andrew Gray (“Marchese d’Obigny”), Thomas Potter (“Dottore Grenvil”) and María Laetitia (“Annina”). and her despair at the thought of losing all that she loves. I know this is going to be an opera that everyone will enjoy.” The Philharmonic’s production will be fully staged with sets and costumes and the orchestra positioned on stage as part of the production. The opera will be sung in Italian, with English translations projected above the stage. *** Now in its 21st season, the Orlando Philharmonic is Central Florida’s resident professional orchestra, comprised of talented musicians recruited from around the world. The Philharmonic inspires audiences with over 125 musical experiences annually, ranging from classical and chamber music concerts to pops performances, staged opera productions, outdoor concerts and education programs for all ages.

The orchestra has produced opera since the Orlando Opera closed its doors in 2009. Committed to building a sustainable future for classical music, the Philharmonic currently has a budget of $3.6 million, holds an endowment of $4 million, and has maintained a balanced budget every year of its existence. World First Solo Show For Kim Keever 'Underwater' Abstracts Opens At Waterhouse & Dodd, New York Startling and beautiful photographic images, generated by releasing and exploding paint pigment in a 200 gallon water tank, are to feature in a oneman show at the prestigious Waterhouse & Dodd's Upper East Side gallery in Manhattan from 2(nd) April to 6(th) May. Created by leading New York artist Kim Keever, the 'Kim Keever: Abstracts' exhibition represents a world first showcase for the latest series of photographs created by the artist in his New York studio. Keever, whose works are represented in many of the major museums and collections around the United States, has developed a unique process through which he creates photographs that capture the explosions of color and form resulting from the release of paint pigments into his huge studio water tank.

“I’ve always lived near the water, whether it was the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Chicago or New York City. There’s a peaceful attraction to the flat rippling surface and the mysteries below. Once I started taking photographs of constructed landscapes submerged in water in a 200-gallon aquarium, I realized I had found my signature work as an artist,” he said. Keever recently dispensed with the landscape elements altogether and started working only with colored paint pigment dropped into the water and photographing the event. “It is a very freeing process. I can explore color and form like never before, albeit through random events since I have very little control once the paint starts moving. Aside from the continued use of water in a tank surrounded by lights,

"Existing collectors and new converts alike will find this show compelling viewing; Keever's work is unique. His earlier landscapes are at first glance redolent of the Hudson River School and are more structured, while the new abstract images, with the paint dispersing through the water more randomly, are more colorful and modern," said Ray Waterhouse, principal of Waterhouse & Dodd. "And they are so affordable, starting at around $3,000." Keever, who originally studied thermal engineering and worked with NASA, combines his knowledge of science with his artwork, allowing him to understand better the properties of the materials he is

working with. His work is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn; Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia and others. He currently lives and works in New York City. By enclosing the bugs in the frame, Wickbold willingly acknowledges and encourages an accelerated decay of the work; however he cannot control its evolution and the way the print is affected by the process. The result is beyond two-dimensional photographic work: it is a living installation and a performance, evolving on a daily basis, which may result eventually in an empty frame. The theme is that of life itself: forever evolving, disintegrating, and changing into something new.

In May this year Wickbold’s largescale work (pieces sized at 110cm x160 cm) will be exhibited in an important show traveling from Rio, Sao Paulo to Porto Alegre. But I think it is more representative of the consequences of my philosophy of life ...Lately, much of my work is based in the unconscious, the observation of my work and the reactions it causes, say that it is “ Existentialism “ in question” or “as a question”...

Last February, I had the pleasure to read in a publication that he was invited to honor his art with a specific chair at the Mondial Academy of Art. I strongly believe that the recognition of an artist at this level in life is one of the greatest honors an artist can receive, after all performing in repeated expositions several times around the world is an achievement, but are events that enrich the curriculum and experience of the artist, although, receive the How did this journey come about? honor of an Academy of Arts in the center of My life journey as an artist was totally by the art world is a historical fact that makes the leaps and bounds ...

With a diameter of 25.50, this model in steel and rose gold cap is set with 52 diamonds and displays a white mother-of-pearl dial with diamond indices. It is fitted with the self-winding mechanical movement L595. Longines - Baselworld 2014

The Longines Heritage 1935 is based on a timepiece originally created for aviators but which went on to prove highly popular among the general public. Its cushion-shaped steel case has a diameter of 42 mm and houses the automatic calibre L615. The matt black dial displays white Arabic numerals with Super-LumiNovaŽ as well as a small second and the date at 6 o’clock. The watch is fitted with a black alligator strap.

With a diameter of 49.50 mm, this new model is fitted with a manually wound L506 calibre and shows the hours and minutes, as well as having a small seconds at 6 o'clock. Its white dial features a railway track minute-ring, large painted black Arabic numerals and a second minute-ring with red numerals. Pink Breguet hands complete the harmony of the dial while the sides and the bow are finely worked in imitation of the original model. The back cover is decorated with a stamped out horse motif and opens to reveal a solid case back.

The Longines Column-Wheel Single PushPiece Chronograph models take their inspiration from the first chronograph wristwatches developed by Longines in 1913. This steel model is fitted with the L788 calibre, a column-wheel single pushpiece chronograph movement developed by ETA exclusively for Longines. With its 40 mm diameter, its case is fitted with moving lugs. The white dial features black Roman numerals and a red "XII", a small seconds at 9 o'clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock. The date aperture is situated at 6 o'clock. Blued hands harmoniously complete this timepiece, which comes with a brown alligator strap.

This year, Longines celebrates the 60th anniversary of the filing of the patent for its "Conquest" brand. To mark this occasion, the Swiss watch company is launching its Conquest Heritage 1954-2014. With a diameter of 35 mm, this model in rose gold displays a sunray silver dial with pink applied indices. Fitted with the mechanical calibre L633, it indicates the hours, the minutes and the seconds. The caseback is screwed down and decorated with a gold and enamel medallion representing a constellation. This timepiece is numbered and limited to 60 pieces.

Twenty one years ago a relentless romantic passion for the American Way inspired the formation of Confederate Motorcycles in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The first nine months of existence were entirely conceptual. It was determined that the effort would be design driven and product focused. The creative approach would be organic. Our products would be the most exclusive, small-batch handcrafted thoroughbred motorcycles ever produced. The singularity of line memorialized by Oscar Wilde’s commentary concerning effective industrial design would inform joinder of the power, strength and beauty line in the form of American drag race industrial design architecture, which was benchmarked as our core competency. Our cultural cornerstone would be non-materialism. Our executive approach would emphasize principled individualism. Our goal would be to nurture diverse actualized creativity. The effort relocated to San Francisco in 1992. A fruitful collaboration with Sandy Kosman and Martin Windmill began. Sandy and Martin were, without question, America’s leading motorcycle drag racing chassis design specialists. For a glorious 18 months we lived in a blue sky bubble, dreaming up the beginning of something immortal, the finest American road bike, without any compromises, ex-

cept the limitations of resources to which we were availed. We fantasized about a massive forged one piece centered crankshaft located in a unitized power train case with our own proprietary mounting specifications. Unfortunately our resources did not allow for such a solution. So, as necessity is the father of invention, we invented a non-unitized yet fully loaded cradled power train mounting system by re-bundling and reconfiguring substantive proven high performance components, which we were resourced to procure. The result was a masterwork. We resolved to use the toughest upside-down, turned-around, vertical mount transmission located at the swing arm pivot by a dual threaded axle mounting a billet inner primary tied to a middle motor-transmission lap mount at the center strut of the cradle additionally supported by large diameter outrigger bearings mounting the output shaft to the swing arm pivot point. A big-boned three inch hard steel backbone, two-inch down tube and 1 ¼ inch cradle additionally supported precise neck/swing arm perpendicularity. This first generation chassis-architecture is the ideal paterfamilias upon which our second and third generations owe their deep within the oily bits thoroughbred design DNA. I was awarded Engineering Patent Patent #5857538.pdf for the superior torsion and bend rigidity of this body of work.
