Under the command of Mayor Teresa Jacobs, Orange County is always ahead of many events of significant importance to our community. It is important to remember that every frontier we have crossed in the past three years, has brought us to an incredible journey that allowed us to overcome many obstacles, some of them more difficult than others, but the outcome is amazing. We are living the dream. Orlando has more and more become the best place to live, visit and raise our children. Here is what happened in Orange County in the past few weeks.

Cypress Grove Park sits on 80 acres of lush grounds boasting oak and cypress trees, radiant seasonal flowers, and perfectly manicured lawns. The park is home to the Estate House at Cypress Grove, a charming vintage 1925 colonial estate that has become a destination for weddings, soirees, corporate events, and holiday celebrations.

The campaign #FilltheBowl launched last month and was a major success, with the last tickets selling a week before the game. With high demand, additional standing room only tickets were added in the days leading up to the game. The game drew the second highest attendance numbers during an inaugural MLS match.

We must bring Faith in our lives, and live to see the abundance of graces that will come upon us. Today The Florida Christian University hosted the Pastors Association Breakfast. It was the last event held at that building since it will be demolished to give place to a great space for conference and events that will house 250 people, with a state of the art facility. We celebrated our Faith, heard the Word, sang and prayed, most of all we prayed to each other. It was an incomparable feeling of love and peace. Being a part of the Florida Christian University family has been a blessing to all of us, we wish Dr. Anthony Portigliatti, family and crew all the best.

Introduction By Laiz Rodrigues Orlando has been a target of so many great things lately, but nothing happens for no reason. We have community leaders that work really hard so we get to live in this great place, and have the best city to live, visit, and raise our children, one of these leaders is Mr. Rick Singh. Tthree years ago, after working 30 years, from the bottom up to the Orange County Property Appraisers Office, Mr. Singh decided to run for the position of Property Appraiser. He is not the Taxes Collector, he is the one who was elected to make sure the valuation of all properties in Orange County are done properly. Any property, commercial, or residential, businesses, even Parks and attractions, must go through his office, imagine the amount of responsibility. www.ocpafl.org Not only he got elected, but his administration has been through a significant amount of great changes. A new website, a faster and proficient data center with enough capacity to hold more information, and one of the lowest waiting time in record. When you visit the OCPAFL the wait is minimum, there is service available in different languages, and the personnel is nice and courteous. Very efficient. During his first year in office, Mr Rick Singh not only supported the community in general, but he also worked hard bringing back to Orange County US$ 52 Million Dollars in fraudulent taxes that were recovered. Today two years later, more than US$230 Million Dollars are back to Orange County. Under his administration the OCPAFL created classes and seminars targeting several professional levels and also for the community in general. The OCPA FL also participates in the Hispanic Chamber Business Conference, Mayor Buddy Dyer Neighborhood Summit, was at HOLA’s 10th Anniversary in 2014, City of Orlando Veterans Parade, Hosts open houses for Chambers of Commerce, supporting small businesses and also created a mobile office to serve Orange County. Mr. Singh is also Honorary Chair of the Florida Diversity Inc., hosts the Annual Gandhi Diversity Breakfast, Mr. Singh has honored his oath every day, and will continue, leaving a legacy of excellence.

The first thing that strikes you about Orange County Property Appraiser Rick Singh is his friendly personality and gregarious attitude. When I sat down with him and began asking questions about his office, and all the related material that it deals with, Mr. Singh was a wealth of information; the type of thing that comes from a lifetime of expertise in the field. Property Appraiser Singh is a South American immigrant. Born in Guyana and raised there until he emigrated at the age of 10, Mr. Singh had an experience common to many who now call the Central Florida area home. Growing up in The Bronx, New York, he had to overcome cultural and verbal obstacles if he wanted to succeed. “It was amazing to me, coming off that plane at 10 years old, the first plane I’d ever been on, leaving a tropical third world country, and landing in snowy, bright New York,” he said. “Being raised by a single mother was tough, but I learned quickly that if you wanted the American dream, then you had to work for it.” After graduating from Aviation High School, Mr. Singh enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, Rick and his family settled in Orange County, and opened a small auto maintenance business. In 1994, things changed in a way that would affect his life. Mr. Singh was hired to work in the Orange County Property Appraiser’s Office as a field appraiser. In 1999, he became a State Certified Appraiser, and later, a certified real estate agent and broker. After owning and operating businesses in the Orlando area for over 10 years, Mr. Singh had a vision. “I worked a lot with the Property Appraiser’s office, and I was always shocked at how mishandled leadership made the office less open, and less accurate in what they were doing. I knew that there was a way to innovate and use technology to create a better product for the people of Orange County, and I answered the call to serve.” And serve he did. In the last 2 years, the Orange County Property Appraiser’s Office has seen many overhauls, including equipping their field ap-

praisers with the best in new technology and software, the building and expansion of an award winning website, and doubling the number of State Certified and Licensed Appraisers working in the office. Mr. Singh brought in experts to handle the 84,000 hotel rooms and 14,000 timeshares here in the county, as well as specialists trained in theme park appraisal. Property Appraiser Singh has also made it his job to reach out to smaller, under-served communities, including seniors, veterans, low income groups, and minority constituencies, including Orange County’s Brazilian community. The OCPA website, which now translates into over 45 languages, made Portuguese one of the first languages that they focused on. Direct outreach has been made to the Brazilian community, both to better engage Brazilian residents of the county, and Brazilian owned businesses. In fact, Brazil is the third largest international investor in Orange County, responsible for over $122 million of investment in the last year. The Orange County Property Appraiser’s Office has hosted open houses for the Brazilian-American Chamber, spoken at our events, and gone out of their way to make sure that our community, just as much as any other, is well served by Appraiser Singh and his office. The level of responsible government that Mr. Singh pushes for is almost unheard of in this day and age, but is something we need much more of. Mr. Singh is a dedicated public servant who likes going that extra mile, and I for one am appreciative of the added effort. “Anything worth doing is worth doing right,” Appraiser Singh added. “I for one never forget who put me in office, or why I was elected. I’m here to do the people’s work, and that’s always my main focus.”

Conheci Gepp e já era um ícone do desenho, da caricatura e da ilustração do cotidiano. Suas obras já circulavam em livros e materiais de referência da cidade de São Paulo. Foi quando o convidei ara fazer parte de ações culturais que ele prontamente aceitou e desde então a amizade e admiração nos presenteia nos anos que se seguem. É uma honra apresentar na Revista AboutUs este talento que já produziu obras fronteiras à frente e que desejo que com esta reportagem novos desafios venham a fazer parte da sua prancheta mágica. Sua história de arte se baseia muito na ilustração das pessoas e seus hábitos. Zaza Jardim Como é esta viagem na rotina Como o desenho invadiu a sua comum tão incomum? vida? O desenho invadiu minha vida desde criança. Desenhar era um dos meus brinquedos, passava horas rabiscando no chão da sala, fui cartão de visita da casa. Todo pessoal que chegava, minha mãe, minha avó, pediam... Haroldinho (meu apelido de criança) vai pegar seus desenhos, cheias de orgulho. Nunca mais parei, na escola me lembro que junto com mais dois desenhistas, vendíamos nossos desenhos e a moeda era folhas de papel. Esse desenho vale dez folhas, aquele quinze. A diretora acabou proibindo, porque os pais começaram a reclamar que tinham que comprar cadernos toda hora. Depois na faculdade de Desenho Industrial do Mackenzie, eu adorava desenhar os murais, caricaturava os professores e criava cartuns com os fatos que aconteciam. Da faculdade, eu entrei no Jornal A Gazeta Esportiva, através do meu amigo Octacílio Tomanick, fã dos meus murais e seu pai na época era o médico da empresa Folha de São Paulo, me apresentando ao diretor do jornal, foi em 1974 Comecei desenhando os gráficos de gols da Copa do Mundo, demonstrando como a jogada acontecia. Desenhava caricaturas, cartuns e conheci o Maia (José Roberto Maia) e formamos um dupla desenhando uma página semanal de cartuns sobre futebol e o esporte.

Em 1975 a dupla foi convidada para desenhar no Jornal da Tarde, aquilo foi um sonho graficamente, era o grande jornal da época. Foi uma grande escola, foram dez anos desenhando caricaturas, criando capas, a charge política diária. Foi lá que criamos bonecos caricatos, que deu origem a um programa de televisão com o Agildo Ribeiro. Criamos mapas caricatos e maquetes que deram também origem a muitos projetos, como a maquete do Memorial da América Latina, exposta no Salão da Criatividade desde de sua inauguração e a outras tantas maquetes no estilo caricato. Montamos um estúdio e desenhamos para varias agências de propaganda, jornais internos de empresas, principalmente bancos. Revistas Veja, Placar, Status e varias outras. Projetos de criação e execução para decoração de Natal em shoppings. Desfizemos a dupla em 2006.

As pessoas sempre me cativaram, lembro que a primeira caricatura que eu fiz foi a do meu pai, quando eu era criança e não parei mais de fazer caricaturas. Por causa dos mapas caricatos, ou seja, que não obedecem a nenhuma escala, eu e o Maia decidimos que as pessoas eram importantes, sejam elas conhecidas ou históricas, mas também as pessoas comuns. Foi assim que aquilo que eu já adorava, que era desenhar pessoas e observar o dia a dia, foi se apurando e melhorando cada vez mais. Adoro sair pelas cidades de bloquinho na mão, rabiscando as pessoas, para depois dar o acabamento final com a memória visual, para depois, colocar nos mapas. Fotografar também é bom mas é muito desagradável apontar a máquina para alguém. Lembro que uma vez fui ao centro da cidade de São Paulo, sendo um lugar cheio de contraventores, acabou em confusão. Com o bloquinho ninguém vê.

As cidades também são sua paixão, como acontece de se dedicar a este mapeamento imenso e quais cidades você á se dedicou? Comecei a desenhar mapas no Jornal da Tarde, à partir de uma pauta sobre a Avenida Faria Lima na cidade São Paulo, curioso é que eu nem queria fazer, achava complicado e trabalhoso para fazer em pouco tempo, acabei desenhando por muita insistência do editor na época. Ficou tão legal que depois desenhamos um mapa de Los Angeles para a revista Quatro Rodas mostrando um roteiro turístico para quem ia ver as Olimpíadas daquele ano. É um trabalho de meses, entre dois e três normalmente. São muitos detalhes para levarem as pessoas a descobrir. Tenho um método que é semelhante ao de colecionar um álbum de figurinhas, cada etapa do mapa concluída é uma figurinha colada, até acabar o álbum(mapa), com uma diferença que é o de cumprir o prazo combinado. Exige muita paciência...

Quais os projetos que estão acontecendo em sua vida e quais os que mais desejaria realizar? Nos dias de hoje, me dedico exclusivamente aos mapas, tenho um sócio na cidade de Salvador em uma empresa chamada Artemapas. Eventualmente desenho uma caricatura por prazer e posto no Facebook para os amigos. Projeto que eu quero realizar junto com a Artemapas, são os circuitos do Carnaval em Salvador mostrando todas aquelas cenas do meu jeito bem caricato. Como também projetos já encomen dados como a Praia do Forte.

Sonhos? Tenho... Criar um museu com cenas da nossa História com bonecos caricatos e fazer uma maquete da cidade de Salvador.
