Getting around The yas express, a complimentary shuttle service, connects all the major attractions on this 25-squarekilometre island through designated stops. The Blue Route, running 9am to 9pm, takes in Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi, Yas Plaza Hotels, Yas Central, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi; while the new Red Route, open 9am to 2am, connects guests from all hotels to Yas Marina, Yas Links Abu Dhabi and Yas Beach. The routes interlink at certain areas of the map like the Yas Plaza Hotels. The only stretch of beach to be found on Yas Island is Yas Beach, on the island’s tranquil southern shores.

Open from 10am to 7pm weekdays, and 10am to 10pm weekends, guests staying at the Yas Plaza Hotels have complimentary beach access, while daily visitors can pay Dhs50 for youths or Dhs100 for adults for beach access and towel hire.

The centrepiece of the Yas Marina Circuit is Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi, the V V wÛi ÃÌ>À Ìi Ì >Ì Ã the only one in the world to straddle an F1 racetrack.

or better or worse, Yas Island is inextricably linked with the world of motoring.

Nowhere is that heritage explored more fully than at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, which offers much more than just thrills for car enthusiasts. With over 20 unique rides and attractions, including the world’s fastest rollercoaster, this is a day out to remember. As well as rides there are live stage shows, unique shopping and Italian dining destinations and plenty of history about the famous Ferrari brand. One thing to remember is that it’s not for early birds – the opening times are daily from 11am until 8pm. So treat yourselves to a lie in.

2010 saw the opening of the Middle East’s wÀÃÌ Ã } v V ÕÀÃi q Yas Links Abu Dhabi.

Designed by Kyle Phillips, renowned for his work on St. Andrews’ Kingsbarn course, the 18-hole, par 72 course is set on the western shore of Yas Island, surrounded by stunning mangrove plantations and rolling hills. The course has been listed as one of the top 25 courses worldwide, and offers 112 bunkers and 300,000 cubic metres of capped sand to navigate around – so it’s not for the faint of heart. But beginners can still enjoy the surroundings at the 9-hole, par 3 Academy Course also on site, before unwinding at the state-of-the-art clubhouse.

Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is the last word >µÕ>Ì V >`Ûi ÌÕÀi° / i 1Ƃ ½Ã wÀÃÌ i}> waterpark, it’s also still the best. Covering a huge amount of ground, the park boasts 45 slides and rides. Highlights include Dawwama, which is a 20-metre high funnel down which six people slide on one raft – plunging at the end into a deep pool. Then there’s the Bandit Bomber, the Middle East’s longest suspended rollercoaster, which uses state-of-the-art water and laser effects – and best of all, you’ll get the opportunity to splash any spectators standing below. Youngsters are also fully catered for.

Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi has the biggest children’s play area of any waterpark in the Middle East, from a baby pool up to the superfun Marah Fortress.

It’s time for more motoring excitement at Yas Marina Circuit. November of course is the time of year when the Formula One meeting takes place, and the twists and turns – plus the longest straight of any current Formula One circuit – means that the Abu Dhabi race is Activities
