Today, Piguet Auction House stands as one of the most important auction houses in Switzerland. Originally founded in 1978, Bernard Piguet took over ‘Hôtel des Ventes’ in 2006. He led the auction house forward to establish its place on the Swiss and foreign markets. Ten years later, the company was renamed Piguet Hôtel des Ventes®.

An economist with a passion for art, he transformed a traditional auction house into a resolutely modern private company. Pushing constant innovation and by diversifying, it maintains a high standard of professionalism and personalisation of services offered to buyers and sellers. BERNARD PIGUET

Bernard Piguet has a dual background in History of Art (Manchester University) and Economics (HEC Lausanne). He bought Hôtel des Ventes in 2006 to set up his own consulting firm, created a few years earlier. He entirely restructured his auction house and renamed it Piguet Hôtel des Ventes® in 2016. This banker’s grandson was immersed in the world of art at a young age and is related to the great fashion designer Robert Piguet. He acquired solid professional training at Sotheby’s as administrator of the Fine Jewellery department and head of sales in Geneva.

With his wife and over 35 employees, Bernard Piguet is the CEO and Auctioneer of a now international company with an annual turnover of more than 25 million.

The bespoke setting was crafted approximately 50 years ago and is composed of over 60 carats of diamonds and 236 grams of gold. The emeralds were initially set within the two central, removable elements, one of which could be worn separately as a brooch.

An exceptional mid-19th century emerald with Royal provenance

Octogonal with rounded corner, modified brilliant / step cut of 39.144 ct

SSEF, 2025, report, n°149225, Emerald : 39.144 ct, Colombia, minor amount of oil in fissures, with an Appendix describing the Emerald as « Exceptional » and Gemmological Profile detailing the origin of the emerald from the most famous mining area. According to the SSEF an emerald of such size and quality, containing only a minor amount of oil in fissures from Colombia can be considered rare and exceptional.

AN EXCEPTIONAL 35.323 CARATS EMERALD

An exceptional mid-19th century emerald with Royal provenance

Rectangular with rounded corner, step cut of 35.323 ct SSEF, 2025, report, n°149226, Emerald : 35.323 ct, Colombia, minor amount of oil in fissures, with an Appendix describing the Emerald as « Exceptional » and Gemmological Profile detailing the origin of the emerald from the most famous mining area. According to the SSEF an emerald of such size and quality, containing only a minor amount of oil in fissures from Colombia can be considered rare and exceptional.

ROYAL PROVENANCE

In 1841 the Sovereign bought a beautiful emerald and diamond parure from an Imperial jeweller as part of a marriage settlement for his daughter. These two emeralds are from this parure and were safeguarded as invaluable treasures. The gems have since remained exclusively within the same noble lineage, faithfully passed down through successive generations to the present day. Their impeccable royal provenance is thoroughly documented.

Gracing the open market for the very first time, their appearance represents an unprecedented moment and an exceptionally exclusive opportunity for the most discerning collector.

Fine coloured gemstones of this exceptional calibre are exceedingly rare on the open market and are currentty extremely high demand.

Considering the impeccable royal provenance of these two emeralds, a valuation of CHF 67,000 per carat/� 84,000 per carat is deemed both highly attractive and judicious. The antique nature of the material and the original cutting style further enhance their historical and aesthetic appeal, offering an added dimension of desirability for the discerning collector.
