WHAT IS AN

EAR

ADVENTURE

JACKETS & PANTS

• From April 2018 European 2016/425 directive became active, meaning

o All gear must be tested and approved by an independent party

o Gear must meet the directive to be officially legal to sell in European and UK markets

GLOVES

• For gloves there is and already was a suitable norm; EN 13594-2002.

BOOTS

• The new ADV boots will follow the same norm as all our boots, there is no difference here, and no specific ADV/road norm is available.

IS IT MANDATORY TO WEAR GEAR WITH CE APPROVAL?

• As of today, only one European country enforces that gear needs approval. In France gloves need to have the CE ( EN13594 ) and Police could check a rider. All other gear is not mandatory, the approvals are strictly aiming at what can or can not be sold within the EU.

has always been a company that tested to ensure products are safe and last, so the step into having an independent notified body double checking is not a big one. We were already on track.

WHY IS ADVENTURE GEAR DIFFERENT TO OFF ROAD

When protection is added to a garment it will suggest you are selling protective gear for a motorcyclist that will travel on the road.

WHICH CE RATING AND WHY

• Leatt has chosen to follow the AA level, this is the most suitable to ensure, protection, quality and comfort.

• AAA is traditionally used for Leather suits, this tends to create discomfort and bulk.

• Level A would not to be up to the standard we set out to achieve in the initial brief.

• B and C are for different motorcycle use.

INNOCUSNESS

• No harmful substances are used in materials, all materials are tested and separately approved

DIMENSIONAL STABILITY

• To ensure no change to product dimensions following washing and drying, and that the size and fit is within the standards for general size and fit

IMPACT TESTING

• Impact energy absorption of the insert following the mandatory EN 1621. Under AA level 1 as well as level 2 is permitted

o Chest and Back are optional – Leatt chose level 2 back and provision for level 1 chest

PANTS

o Knee and Hip,

– Leatt chose level 2 knee and level 1 hip

IMPACT PROTECTORS LOCATION & FIXATION

• Must be positioned to cover the necessary impact area’s and are retained, even the protector pockets are tested on their seam strength and to ensure they keep the impact insert in place.

MATERIAL TESTING

• Abrasion resistance using Darmstadt method and machine, values according to each zone are used in.

o Seam testing, tear strength

o Tear strength of fabric according to the needs of each zone

o Color fading of fabrics
