There are approximately 350 physicians at HSS and 175 PAs. These PAs assist in a variety of specialties, including orthopedic surgery, anesthesia, medicine, rheumatology, radiology, pain management, neurology and primary care sports medicine.

Before returning to HSS, Dr. Ast developed and directed one of the largest and most successful outpatient joint replacement programs in the northeast.

Dr. Ast has both clinical and teaching expertise in the use of robotics and computer assistance in joint replacement surgery, and served as the Director of Robotic and Computer Assisted Surgery at a major university institution in New Jersey. He has published numerous articles and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and internationally distributed textbooks and has also presented clinical and basic science research both nationally and internationally.

Faye Rim, MD, FAAPMR Faye Rim, MD, FAAPMR, is an Assistant Attending Anesthesiologist and Physiatrist, and the Medical Director of Presurgical Chronic Pain Management at HSS. Dr. Rim oversees the presurgical screening pain program, where she treats patients with complex pain and controlled substance tolerance. In addition, she works on improving preoperative screenings to ensure optimum pain management for all orthopedic patients.

After receiving her medical degree from New York Medical College, Dr. Rim completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Medical Center. She also completed a fellowship focused on pain medicine and palliative care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to joining HSS, Dr. Rim served as Chief of Pain and Palliative Medicine at Metropolitan Hospital.
