Festival of Horwich Exhibition The following pages perfectly illustrate how diverse and exciting Horwich is when it comes to culture, heritage and community activities. Horwich has a history spanning over 4,500 years, the same time Stonehenge was built! Our town’s name has also evolved over the past 1,000 years, including its name – from Horewic, Harewych, Horewyche to Horwich. In 1891, with the arrival or the Loco Works, Horwich saw a boom in population. People from around the UK came to make this their new home. With all the new housing developments throughout Horwich we are witnessing another boom in population,
with an estimated increase of 7,500 new residents. As a town and close knit community we have lots to offer each other and those new residents who will be arriving in the next few years. Remember, they want to make this their new home because as a town we have so much to offer and that is something we should all be enormously proud of.
The Festival of Horwich Exhibition will be situated outside on the cricket ground alongside lots of fascinating exhibits from Horwich Heritage.

THE MAYOR’S CHARITIES! BOLTON HOSPICE I'm sure everyone in Horwich knows of the invaluable work the hospice does for people with life limiting illnesses. Like most people in the town Irene and I have personal experience of the care the hospice provides to patients and their families. The Hospice is an independent charity and although it does get some funding from the NHS it is dependent on charitable donations. It was an immediate choice to be for a charity we want to support during our Mayoral year.
SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY, CELEBRATING OUR TOWN
ECHO AND WAVE Local Horwich resident, Samantha Gamble, realised from her own experience that women who go through the deeply upsetting trauma of still birth receive little or no support. She decided to set up this organisation to provide the support that is so needed. Irene heard about this new initiative and we agreed very quickly that this is a cause we want to support. Charity collection tins will be located at the Horwich Heritage and Horwich Town Council Gazebo.
Thank you for your support! -Cllr Kevin McKeon, Mayor of Horwich 2026/27
