The line is all about “new fresh ways” of combining fluorescent neon with colours you normally would not expect to go together. The two main colorways cover all riding styles and products, from hi-tech backcountry jackets to cozy street anoraks. TYLER CHORLTON SIGNATURE JACKET

It’s hard to say anything new about what has been fine tuned to perfection. We’ve worked with Tyler on this jacket for the last four years and came to a point, where we did not want to change anything, it all felt perfect, but we did! We upgraded the shell material to UltraTech® Recycled with increased waterproofness and breathability ranking of 25.000 mm and 20.000 gm. We also improved the insulation by adding Clo® Eco Vivo (made with 93 % recycled fibers, sourced from plastic bottles), that will deliver greater warmth performance, yet give an increase in breathability by 30 %. Last, but not least, are the YKK® zippers. The main zipper is a high-tech, YKK® AquaGuard zipper, with a new mountain ergonomical puller. Also, the pocket zippers are now fully taped for higher waterproofness. In the end, we did change a lot, making this jacket again very special. Another Anniversary! This is now Eiki’s 5th Horsefeathers signature line! After several seasons, Eiki decided to change the cut of his Signature jacket and made a move from the Urban Mountain line to the Addicted to Powder segment. The “WHY” is quite easy, whenever riding street spots, Eiki always wears his signature rideable hoodie, so he needs a bulletproof jacket for riding and filming in the backcountry. This year’s line design is inspired by the crackle paint Eiki saw on his Tenerife trip, enriched by a bit of fresh turquoise color. „I‘m really hyped on how my signature line came out this season. WE CARE WHERE OUR STUFF : RESPONSIBLE IS MADE! (AND HOW…) S It’s officially called “corporate social responsibility”, but we consider it the basis of our attitude towards the world around us. Long before this topic became a popular subject, we were interested in our influence on the environment and on the people we work with. We always wanted to know not only who sells our product, but also who makes it, and where and how it is made.

Pavel Kubíček, the Horsefeathers co-founder and head designer Pepe Šetele are in charge of the production. Both are passionate snowboarders, so they understand both communities. As our products are made in factories around the world, Pavel and Pepe have spent months on factory floors working with the factory owners and workers. We always need to know that the conditions where people make our snowboard jackets and pants are safe and offer a positive environment. In order to make high-end technical outerwear, the factories and people working in them have to be very skilled, have to have the best know-how and operate in good work-place setting.

The most of the streetwear collection is produced in Europe, which lowers the CO2 emissions, as the total of the transport between factories, warehouses and retailers is shorter.

Over the years, we have established lasting relationships with our producers, which in many cases have grown into friendships.

Most of them have also visited us at our Headquarters in Pilsen, to see how we run our company. Being from a city that produces the best beer in the world does help. If you are interested in the topic of responsible production, don’t hesitate to contact us.

TAKE RESPONSIBLE STEPS The development and growth of the eco-movement in the last years is a positive affirmation of a change in progress and we are more than stoked about the new possibilities. On the other hand, there are many brands, products and claims that only ride the hype of “eco” and “sustainability”, without going deep enough to make sure the solutions being offered really make sense.

Making the right steps at the right time is the approach we have chosen in order to guide our long-term communication with the various suppliers. The technologies are constantly evolving and what was impossible a few years ago is now a fully applicable process. SMART PACKAGING

After several years of analyzing the options of truly responsible and affordable solutions for our packaging, we are stoked to introduce these main steps we have taken and implemented into our collections:

OUTERWEAR BIODEGRADABLE PACKAGING P-life®: The world’s only proven oxo-biodegradable plastic additive. Our whole outerwear and technical apparel collection will now come in P-life® Oxo-biodegradable plastics. P-Life® oxo-biodegradable technology is an effective way to accelerate plastic degradation without harming the environment or compromising functionality.

P-Life®is an additive that allows manufacturers to custom tailor the life of every plastic product they make, without lowering the product performance. When added to polyolefin polymers, such as polyethylene (PE, LLDPE, LDPE, HDPE) and polypropylene (PP), P-Life® creates molecular scissions in the polymer chain, allowing oxygen to bond to the polymer and break it down into smaller and smaller compounds. These can be then naturally consumed by microorganisms, which convert the compounds into organic biomass. This technology results in a plastic product, that will begin to degrade in few years (or even months) after its use, instead of decades or centuries of polluting the Earth.

STREETWEAR RECYCLED PACKAGING FROM LDPE TRASH For our entire streetwear line we are now using recycled packaging from LDPE trash. We have also managed to reduce the packaging size by approximately half by folding our products in a smart way, thus saving CO2 emissions and space during transport. All streetwear bags also now include a self-closing feature, so they can be easily re-used and do not get destroyed while being opened.

ULTRATECH® SHELL UltraTech® is a range of high quality materials developed in collaboration with leading Taiwanese manufacturers. Designed to maximize performance across diverse conditions, UltraTech® fabrics are manufactured in fully controlled facilities, using advanced processes: The technical outer shell is laminated with a fully waterproof and breathable membrane, then treated with a water repellent DWR (Durable Water Repellent) film. This process guarantees a high performance fabric that is rugged and robust.

ULTRATECH® RECYCLED SHELL Developed in collaboration with Taiwanese manufacturers who specialize in technical fabrics and yarns, this is our second generation of UltraTech® Recycled. To maintain the shell material’s key properties, the fabric is made from 50 % recycled polyester made from used PET bottles and 50 % virgin polyester.

OUTER C6 DWR COATING Durable Water Repellent coating, as the name suggests, is hydrophobic. It repels water, causing it to “bead up” on the outer surface and stops it from penetrating the outermost layer. When melting snow cannot penetrate the outer surface of the fabric and saturate inner layers, breathability remains high, weight remains low and performance is not compromised.

CLOÂŽ ECO VIVO INSULATION

The unique Clo fiber construction with Vivo concept maximizes breathability and thermal comfort.

Vivo Eco is made up of 93 % recycled fibers from plastic bottles making this product a very eco-friendly insulation.

The fibers are extruded from recycled plastic bottles and 40 plastic bottles make up 1kg of the Eco93 fibers.

This unique design will give you great performance for warmth and yet giving an increase in breathability by 30 %. The insulation is penetrated by a series of small apertures that enhance breathability without decreasing the thermal insulated performance of the insulation.

These holes through the insulation trap air to create a fantastic warmth consistence when in low activity, but also allow for the air and water vapor to flow through very quickly when the body temperature increases through high activity making this the most breathable insulation on the market today. With its great flexibility yet stable structure it provides excellent comfort when used garments.

JACKET INTERIORS Our jacket interiors feature strategically engineered insulation placement, resulting in high-performance warmth and breathability. Removing unnecessary weight, while still keeping the full functionality, makes the jackets lighter and more versatile.

We have developed the interior panels throughout the collection lines based on optimal performance and product focus. The interiors are made of segmented mesh panels that optimize temperature regulation and maximize comfort. Nylon taffeta sections are used for extra warmth and smooth interaction with other layers.

Through testing different volumes in a wide range of materials, the best weight-warmth-breathability performance was achieved throughout the products. All the components work together to deliver the best functionality and comfort for all outside adventures.

Women often appreciate extra thermal comfort, so we added an ergonomic inner panel made of sherpa lining to selected women’s models. This adds an extra warm layer on the back, yet still keeps the jacket very breathable.

PET INSULATION This insulation is made of PET resin and comprises of thin compressible fibers. The space between these micro fibers is filled with air that provides superior warmth without bulk and retains heat effectively even when wet. Our insulation dries fast, is very durable, with exceptional down-like softness, outstanding breathability and excellent recovery ability after compression.

These properties make it excellent for outerwear. Additional advantages of PET are that it is recyclable and lightweight.

YKK ZIPPERS Zippers from YKK are synonymous with quality and reliability.

These extremely durable, easy to use, high quality zippers are currently the global leader for performance outerwear applications. Being smooth to operate and with less of a tendency to catch, or malfunction, these zippers can be easily operated using one hand in even the coldest conditions. We use only YKK in every piece on every line in our range.

MAGNETIC SNAPS Magnetic snaps will be there for you every time when you forget to zip-up your pocket. The pocket snaps close automatically thanks to the in-built magnet, so your keys, phone or wallet stay where they should be.

LIFT LEG SYSTEM Based on Tyler Chorlton’s love of regular pants we have developed the Lift-leg System to protect the bottom hem of the pants from getting shredded by walking on hard surfaces. It’s super easy to lift up and drop down.

FLEXI LOCK SYSTEM We’ve developed the Flexi Lock System on our bib pants with our team riders. This feature aims to protect their ribs when falling on rails, or hard landings. Hard buckles are the last thing anyone wants to feel between the iron rail and the ribs. Our Flexi Lock System is flat, comfortable and easy to use.

The whole Horsefeathers story started back in 1989 in British Columbia, Canada, in a small town called Rock Creek. Hanuš and his friends were into snowboarding, which was a pretty new sport at that time. It was more like a rebellion against the local lifestyle as the whole area was just farms and cowboys.

They were riding as much as they could and live the lifestyle of a board-riding crew.

The first “office” was cozy mayhem of salvaged furniture, posters, snow and skate mags, “hightech” electronics all surrounded by boxes of clothing.

After the first outerwear collection sold out, Hanuš and Pavel took off to British Columbia, Canada, for two months of snowboarding. It was an awesome road trip with some wild stories. After coming back, there was so much work to handle, so they had to get everything in line and get structured.

Our first full-length movie Fragments dropped on VHS in 2004, covering all the action sports we supported at that time. The premiere party in Pilsen was crazy!

Hanuš moves to Pilsen, the Czech Republic where he meets Pavel Kubíček. Together they started Horsefeathers as a brand. This photo on a rooftop in Pilsen was shot on a funky 70s Russian camera.

This is the first-ever Horsefeathers advertisement. It was a last-minute call for the first issue of legendary Czech Board magazine and we are still not sure what this means. „There was no plan to do an ad, but when the funky image of naked kids floated up, it was a must to do. Horsefeathers to the point,“ comments Hanuš.

1993

This is the first official Horsefeathers design ever made. In 1993 we launched the first Horsefeathers collection of 50 tees and 200 stickers.

This tee is one of them.

1997

Our first outerwear collection and first catalog dropped in fall 1997. The Shadow jacket looks ontrend even now.

2000

This is the photo of our official team back in 2000. A lot of the guys stayed with us for a while, legends! Left to right: Michal Vladík, Petr Zvolánek, Honza Janda, Luděk Čtvrtníček, Filip Tauchman, Martin Mráz, Ondřej Marčík, Jan Zajíc, Kryštof Just, Kamil Mrázik.

Jib as a local jib contest that quickly grew into an international event that in 2008 saw in front of the Pilsen St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral more than five thousand people and the riders list contained big names like Fredu, Sirvio, Alex Tank, Marc Swoboda or Hans Åhlund.

2008 Finish legend Ville Uotila joined our team in 2008/09 2008 and quickly became one of the most significant riders in Horsefeathers history. During the years, he produced insane ads, photos, and video parts. He was also part of the B.C. 20th Anniversary trip crew.

Riding in British Columbia, Canada is always a good plan. The team grabbed the same van as Hanuš and Pavel in the ’97/’98 trip and did a tour of all iconic locations. Onboard of the time shuttle were Ville Uotila, Lukas Draxl, Rene Biedenkap, Honza Zajíc, Richard Skandera, and Zuzana Salz, all documented by David Blažek and KarKys.

Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam was an internationally recognized 4* event at Dachstein glacier that always attracted the best riders pumped on competing in the first contest of the season. The contest under our name ran from 2007 to 2011 and was part of the Horsefeathers Superpark Dachstein and Horsefeathers Superpark Planai combo.

The Breakthrough Brand of the Year Award presented by SOURCE magazine recognizes the activities and efforts of a small/new brand that has been seen by retailers to have progressed the most in the year. Thanks, guys!

Opening a flagship store at a prime location in Prague made it possible to set up an environment that would reflect everything Horsefeathers represents as a brand. And yes, there is free beer.

2017

In February 2017 went Mans Hedberg and Tyler Chorlton on a trip to China to visit their local Horsefeathers teammates. Chinese snowboarding, friends, beers and new experiences like the Annual Horsefeathers Nanshan Mogul Slope Race Extremeness. If you want to see more, follow the hashtag #HFtripChina. Ganbei! Along the way, many innovations were dreamed up and turned into reality. The configurator was a fully functional online tool for customers to easily scroll through all possible combo/ colorway options of each collection. And it came at a time where there was still nothing that functional and cool on the market.

In 2015 all focus was put on snowboarding and on building an awesome team that would be tuned on to the same philosophy as everyone at HF. From meeting Tyler on a subway in Munich that year and super simply working out a deal, or hooking up with Mans shortly after, to having Eiki Helgason onboard just seems to make perfect sense.

After two successful seasons of atrip apparel, Halldór Helgason and the Stigma Distribution crew have decided to implement the brand into Horsefeathers as Halldor’s signature line. Halldór Helgason becomes a member of the Horsefeathers global team joining his brother Eiki. The first Horsefeathers atrip line by Halldór Helgason hit the stores in winter 2018/19.

Ísland Born is the three-part project – zine, full part and documentary – from Eiki Helgason, released in late 2016. The footage in the videos showcased some stunning scenery from Eiki’s native Iceland.

What a friggin’ ride! And who would have thought! In Canada, Horsefeathers was no more than a thought, a joke that united a few people with a passion for a strange new lifestyle. In Pilsen, it became a bit more than that, but still the motivation was to work less, ride more and have fun while doing it. Somewhere along the line, things got more focused and it was apparent there was more to the project than anyone thought at the beginning.
