All classes in the MAcc program at ESU are 7-week online classes. This online program structure allows students to have a greater flexibility to choose their own time to study the given course material and expedite the process of earning the MAcc degree from ESU. Besides, completing the MAcc program at ESU would be a great way to fulfill the academic requirements for the Uniform CPA examination in a relatively short time period with the respected degree in accounting.

The Master of Arts in Applied Sociology program at Emporia State University is unique to the regent’s university system in Kansas due to its applied focus. All courses are centered around equipping the next generation of sociologists to be creative solution builders, bold change agents, and frontline researchers. A motivated student can complete the 30-credit hour program in one year, and it is offered completely online in an accelerated format with six starting points throughout the year.

Applied Sociology The Master of Arts in Applied Sociology is the only one of its kind in the state of Kansas. Offered in an accelerated online format, this program offers concentrations in Criminal Justice and Community Leadership. The MA in Applied Sociology was developed in a practical sense; with coursework focused on real-world issues common in the service sector, the program will prepare students for true competency in the service workforce.

Art Therapy ESU’s Art Therapy master’s program is one of few in the Midwest. The program faculty combine strengths in clinical experience with diverse populations, research skills, fine arts training, state and national professional service, and international networking to offer students an exemplary art therapy education. We have dual programs so students can graduate with a degree in art therapy as well as a degree in clinical counseling or psychology! Athletic Training The Master of Science degree in Athletic Training is a CAATE-accredited education program designed for students who desire to become certified athletic trainers. Students are educated to provide comprehensive patient care in five domains of clinical practice: prevention; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate and emergency care; treatment and rehabilitation; and organization and professional health and well-being. Through the provision of both support and challenge, the program encourages students to take responsibility for their learning and to engage in critical thinking, problem solving, and self-reflection. After completing program requirements, students will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam.

Biology The graduate Biology program at ESU is diverse and innovative, providing hands-on research in unique learning facilities, such as our new aquatic center. The environment here is one of collaboration and celebrating our successes. My lab has had recent success researching and publishing cutting-edge topics like microplastic pollution in national and international peer-review journals as well as science news media outlets.

My students were involved in doing the very first survey of microplastics in the Great Plains! We also have focused on adding exciting coursebased undergraduate research experiences to introductory biology laboratory courses, where students majoring in biology have the opportunity to be involved in high-quality inquiry-based learning, and I have even had freshman students successfully coauthor scientific papers.”

One of the main benefits of the program was the excellent supervision and high quality of instruction provided by Dr. Wade and the other instructors in the program. This allowed for growth and learning to occur, preparing us for practicing in the field, while also receiving guidance to help us along the way. Clinical Psychology The Clinical Psychology MS program at ESU prepares students to practice as licensed master’s level psychologists or to pursue doctoral-level training.

Our faculty have decades of real-world experience, equipping students to provide evidence-based treatment and assessment to a wide range of client populations. Applied, skills-based learning is emphasized both in the classroom and the field. During the second year, students complete a supervised clinical internship working with clients in the field and will have considerable flexibility choosing the setting and client population to work with.

Curriculum & Instruction A Master of Science in Curriculum & Instruction helps students to develop leadership skills that fosters student success in their classroom. Four areas of specialization are available: Curriculum Leadership, Teacher Leader/ Instructional Coach, Effective Practitioner, or National Board Certification.

Rigorous coursework emphasizes contemporary classroom and instructional practices, methodology and strategies that promote student engagement and learning. Students will deepen their understanding of how to effectively educate diverse student bodies — addressing multicultural populations and differing learning abilities alike. ESU’s Early Childhood Unified program was one of the first programs in higher education to go fully online. During the last 20 years online, we have been committed to graduating highly qualified teachers for young children birth through third grade in an inclusive environment. Our program provides a unique, handson approach to our courses assuring candidates graduate with real-life experiences in classrooms as well as in natural environments. ECU candidates observe, assess, and teach young children and work with families throughout the entire program assuring they are wellprepared to begin their career in early intervention and early childhood teaching.”

Early Childhood Unified Current federal mandates and trends in public schools recognize the growing importance of early childhood special education services for children from birth through age eight and their families. As a result of our MS in Early Childhood Unified program, teachers with advanced training in their field will be highly qualified to use best practices for young children.

The program is designed to prepare teachers to work effectively with young children with and without special needs, and emphasizes early intervention and serving families with infants and toddlers with special needs. The Master of Science degree in Early Childhood Unified may result in the Kansas License ECU Birth through age third grade or the Kansas License ECU birth to kindergarten.

Forensic Science The Master of Science in Forensic Sciences is the only one in the state of Kansas and includes concentrations in chemistry, physics, and criminalistics.

Designed with the input of crime lab directors across the state, it offers rigorous curriculum encompassing a broad spectrum of subjects including criminalistics, molecular biology, toxicology, entomology, and firearms.

The program effectively prepares students to work as a scientist in national, state, or regional criminalistics laboratories or a conventional analytical laboratory.

History Our Master of Arts in History was designed for students intending to continue on for Ph.D. work in history; secondary education teachers interested in graduate work concentrating on history, political science, or geography; and those interested in a career in public history. Health, Physical Education, and Recreation This unique program was the first fully accredited distance-learning HPER master’s degree program in the United States. Since its beginning in 1996, this program is one of the most respected, affordable, and well-known online master’s degrees in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. The objective of this program is to build upon a well-rounded health and/or physical education foundation and a specialized knowledge of concepts and methods in teaching and coaching, which will enable the student to pursue a productive career in teaching health or physical education and/or coaching various sports. Instructional Specialist The Instructional Specialist degree is intended for the teaching practitioner in settings from kindergarten through 12th grade. Completion of this degree is excellent preparation for those who desire further development as classroom teachers, content-area leaders, instructional strategists, and instructional coaches. Music The Master of Music offers concentrations in both performance and education, and prepares students for a variety of careers, including performance, studio instruction, music service, teaching, community arts, radio, and higher education. The education concentration is designed to help music educators advance professional goals while working, and nearly all of the coursework is delivered online. The performance concentration, on the other hand, is built around advanced study of a primary instrument, requiring on-campus instruction.

Psychology The Master of Science in Psychology has a core curriculum focused on research methodology, human development, and learning theory. Candidates then select an area of concentration: school psychology, experimental psychology, or educational psychology. Those who complete the school psychology concentration are eligible to apply for the Ed.S. in school psychology, completion of which leads to EC-12 licensure as a school psychologist in Kansas. The experimental and educational psychology concentrations allow students to explore these areas in high-impact contexts including an internship and thesis, preparing them for admission to doctoral programs.

Special Education The graduate program in Special Education is dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth with special needs — children and youth with mild/moderate disabilities and/or children and youth who are gifted, talented, and creative. Both concentrations have a 24-credit hour endorsement program and a 36-credit hour master’s degree. The curriculum of each concentration meets the endorsement standards for Early Childhood through Late Childhood (Grades K to 6) and Early Adolescence through Late Adolescence (Grades 6 to 12).

The restricted licensure program was a huge success for me. I went into the program with no teaching experience whatsoever, but when I walked out on the other side I felt like a well-polished, veteran teacher. It wasn’t necessarily easy, however, as there was plenty of work to get done within the program while also completing my first year as a full-time teacher, but with the excellent selection of advisors and mentors within the program, it was definitely manageable.

The advice and guidance I received throughout the entire program was secondto-none and I am thankful for all the support I had along the way. The education classes and seminars are so helpful in preparing someone to go into a career in education, and I still apply so much of what I learned in my everyday teaching.
