A brace for Zack Willett and contributions from Blankson, Hookey and Duffin helped Horndean wrap up a 5 0 win away at Alresford Town.

Horndean made the trip to Arlebury Park to face bottom side Alresford Town in the Wessex League Premier Division. Horndean named an unchanged eleven from their 4 1 victory at home to Laverstock & Ford last week, whilst the hosts Alresford could only name 10 men in their side with several absences within their ranks.

In form Willett put the Deans in front 6 minutes in, after being unleashed by Rob Taw on the right flank he drove towards goal before firing home. Little over 10 minutes later Horndean doubled their advantage, as Hookey slipped the ball into the path of Blankson who breezed past his man before burying the ball past Connell.

Willett made it 3 on 23 minutes after a strike from the edge of the box found the net, earning him a brace to take his season total to 16. Sam Hookey made it 4 0 on the stroke of half time, as he hit a rebound home from close range to bag his second goal in as many games.

Horndean maintained their dominance in the second half with the majority of possession and constant pressure in the final third. Chances were a plenty for the Deans but they struggled to break through the heavily defensive Alresford side. Horndean eventually found a fifth 20 minutes from time as second half substitute Connor Duffin used his head to convert a left sided Montague cross past Connell.

The win sees Horndean strengthen their position in second, with a four point cushion over Bemerton Heath in 3rd. Meanwhile Alresford remain rooted to the foot of the table on 3 points.

LAST week, NLP editor Matt Badcock spoke in his column about the alarming trend of fan misbehaviour which is sadly creeping into our game. Believe me, it’s not something we take any enjoyment from, but it came to a head one Saturday night as we were preparing to put the paper to bed The original plan was to celebrate a National League record crowd at Notts County when a massive 16,511 supporters clicked through the turnstiles to see the Magpies take on Yeovil Town On the same day, there were over 10,000 watching Wrexham play Aldershot Town and another 7,000+ crowd at Chesterfield for the crunch clash with Solihull Moors.

So, you can imagine our angst when instead of 16,511 fans making the front page headlines it the actions of just one idiot who stole the limelight About an hour before we went to press, a video was brought to our attention of a so called Guiseley ‘fan’ jumping over the barrier of Warrington Town’s Cantilever Park ground and switching the water bottle of Wire keeper Tony Thompson which was nestled into the net It then emerged that the bottle in question had apparently been contaminated with urine. Thompson drank it and then approached the alleged perpetrator, prompting him to be sent off The front page headline ‘Disgusting’ said it all While, thankfully, this is a one off incident it has once again raised concerns of bad fans’ behaviour, which is dragging the pure reputation Non League football through the mud.

With the Premier League and Championship on hold for the World Cup, Non League clubs up and down the country have worked extremely hard putting on special deals, trying to pack their bars and clubhouses for people to watch the action in Qatar and to generally propel this level of the game into the wider spotlight A celebration of Non League football if you like

As Matt rightly pointed out, the frustration is these incidents don’t appear to be isolated On a number of occasions this season we’ve had to report unsavoury instances of poor behaviour inside football grounds

At the start of the season, the Football Association and leagues issued a document to clubs in an attempt to help eradicate some of the issues.

The problem is, what can clubs do to prevent it? Guiseley handled this particular incident expertly well They immediately banned the young man involved and vowed to clamp down on any accomplices. They deserve credit for their own swift action on what would have been a difficult weekend for them Unfortunately, preventative methods are having consequences on the terraces and it’s a real sad state of affairs. Clubs such as Walsall Wood and Prescot Cables are refusing entry for under 16s without a supervised adult and at Coalville Town the ground staff are even wearing body cams in a bid to identify persistent offenders

As necessary as measures like that are, they represents everything that Non League football shouldn’t. We should be encouraging the support of the younger generation and we certainly shouldn’t have to follow them round the ground on camera Sadly, it’s needs must

It seems that the pure nature of a Non League ground makes it an easy target. While elite stadiums are regimented so fans are confined to one seat and one entry/exit gate, a Non League ground gives fans the freedom to wonder around and sit or stand where they want. That is being taken advantage of. Don’t get me wrong, 99 per cent of football fans, and Non League fans in general, are decent folk They just there to watch a game, support the club and enjoy the day It’s vital we don’t tar everyone with the same brush. Record numbers are turning to Non League football for its integrity and its purity. Let’s not let the proud reputation of our game be ruined by the few

Fareham Town were formed in 1947, when three local sides Fareham FC, Fareham Brotherhood FC and Fareham Youth Centre FC amalgamated together after at a public meeting in the town in 1946, it was suggested to form a football club for the town. The club joined the Portsmouth League and started playing their games at Beaconsfield Meadow, before moving to Bath Lane.

At the end of the 1948 49 season the club gained promotion to Division 3 (East) of the Hampshire League, and gained promotion to Division Two as champions at the first attempt. The club made further progress in the 1952 53 season when they finished as Runners up in Division Two to gain promotion to Division One. Three seasons later the club then made its debut in the FA Cup, making it to the fourth qualifying round before being knocked out by Wycombe Wanderers The club in the 1959 60 competition won Division One for the first time. Further success would follow when the club won Division One, five times in a row from the 1962 63 campaign. The club would go on to win the league twice more during the 1970s In 1975 the club then moved to its present home of the Cams Alders ground.

With the club finishing runners up in the 1978 79 campaign the club successfully joined the Southern Football League, starting in the Southern Division In the 1982 83 season the club was placed in the Premier Division of the league, when the league was re structured. The club would then spend the next seven seasons in the Premier Division, during which time, they managed to get to the Semi finals of the FA Trophy before losing to the eventual winners Kidderminster Harriers At the end of the 1988 89 campaign the club finished 19th and were relegated to the Southern Division, where they would then spend the next nine seasons. During this time the club would win the Hampshire Senior Cup for the fourth time, when they beat Farnborough Town 4 1 in the final.

At the end of the 1997 98 season the club, decided to move down to the Wessex League, due to the finances involved in staying in the Southern League Since then the club has remained in the top division of the Wessex League.

The club was formed in 2011 following the amalgamation of two successful Sunday league clubs Baffins Milton and Milton Rovers Both clubs had won several league and cup titles in the Portsmouth Dockyard and Meon Valley leagues. The new club joined the Premier Division of the Portsmouth Saturday League and were champions in their first season After finishing as Premier Division runners up the following season, they moved up to the Senior Division of the Hampshire Premier League.

Baffins Milton Rovers were Hampshire Premier League champions in their first season in the league They also won the League Cup with a 4 0 win over Colden Common in the final, and the Portsmouth Senior Cup, beating Moneyfields 4 0 in the final at Fratton Park. After finishing as Senior Division runners up in 2014 15, the club were champions again in 2015 16, as well as winning the Portsmouth Senior Cup for a second time after beating Havant & Waterlooville’s Southdowns College Team 3 1 in the final.

As Hampshire Premier League champions and having moved to their new Kendall Stadium, Baffins were promoted to Division One of the Wessex League for the 2016 17 season. They went on to finish as runners up in the division, earning promotion to the Premier Division, as well as reaching the Wessex League Cup final, eventually losing 2 1 to Premier Division Sholing

The club initially played on the southern pitch at the Langstone Harbour Sports Ground. In 2015 they obtained a 50 year lease from Portsmouth City Council for the northern section of the sports ground and started to develop it in preparation for promotion. They moved to the new ground in time for the 2015 16 season, and it was named the Kendall Stadium after one of its sponsors Developments included a new 120 seater stand, changing rooms, perimeter fence and concreting, with £70,000 in grants contributing to the £100,000 costs . Further upgrades in summer 2016 included new floodlights, dug outs and spectator toilets. A £33,189 grant from the Premier League through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund part funded the £50,000 costs The upgrades allowed the club to be accepted for promotion to Wessex League Division One for the 2016 17 season, having won the Hampshire Premier League for the second time in 2015 16

The new ground was officially opened on 3 August 2016 in a pre season friendly match with Salisbury. A new clubhouse was opened during 2017 18 season, with a new covered terrace also built Portsmouth F C Women began sharing the ground at the start of the 2018 19 season

the fa youth cup run

Horndean U18’s made history as they incredibly reached the second round of the FA Youth Cup. Victories against the U18’s of Moneyfields, Portland United, Dorchester, Chippenham and Woking took the young Deans to Oxford United, where they bowed out of the competition losing 3 1

The run was kicked off at home to local rivals Moneyfields. The Young Deans made light work of their league counterparts with a 4 0 triumph. This was followed by an emphatic 5 0 thrashing of Dorchester, before brushing aside Portland United.

They would go on to host Chippenham Town in the next round at Five Heads Park, and despite spending most of the tie with ten men and no striker, the Young Deans ran out 4 0 winners, in what was the biggest display of quality and character so far in the competition.

Their win against Chippenham Town earnt Horndean a trip to Woking in the next round, with the tie being played at Knaphill Football Club First half goals from Ethan Kent and Isaac Bello gave Horndean a two goal cushion over the Cardinals at the break, before the hosts pulled one back in the second half to set up a nail biting climax The Young Deans were able to see out the remainder of the tie as they booked their place in the 2nd round, becoming the first Horndean Youth side to do so since the 1980’s.

What followed was a tough encounter against a well organised Oxford United Academy. The U’s took a second half lead, with Ethan Kent remarkably pulling back an equaliser for Horndean. Kent’s strike as Oxford retook the lead moments later, before the killing the tie off with a third in stoppage time.
