PLAN AT GROUND LEVEL - +0.0 m.
PLAN AT FIRST LEVEL - +6m.
[1:600 ]
[1:600 ] The design explored various responses to the condition of the road. It also evolved around the of the views from beyond the backwaters. The design also takes into consideration, an appropriate response to the waters edge. The process evolved around a clear understanding of the paradoxical relationship between the two primary entities of the programme: the museum and the corporate headquarters. The design attempts to create multiple routes of movement and thus not control how the visitor experiences the spaces; thereby making itan exploratory journey. The Form creates a progression form a Monolith to a fragmented composite, thus achieving relationships between the within and the without of the building.

The Modular: An experiment in Developing a modular system for customized Re-conďŹ gura on of mul ple retail display op ons.
BikingSpirit (Retail Store) Project Type - Interior design of retail store for motorcycle gear, parts and accessories Project Size - 780 S Loca on - Bangalore , India Status - Completed Role - Principal Architect & designer
The brief called for the expansion of a small retail store selling motorcycling equipment and gear. The inventory was this extremely varied in sizes and volumes, and even in the method in which some items needed to be displayed.
Interlocking MS shelves - Modules
Wooden shelves - modules
Wall Mounted Grid - various moun ng / hanging modules
Being a rental property, the owner required the ability to move shop and simply re-install the same system elsewhere. regardless of the changes in shape or size of the new plan.
For this, a UNIVERSAL FIXING SYSTEM was required which could then have various MODULAR hangers / shelves / and other display systems to allow for an endless arrangement of items . This allows the client to customize his display as per his convenience, or based on stocks, obscure sizing or however he pleases. This setup, consis ng of wall brackets and modular interchangeable shelves can also be dismantled and re-set in any shape or size of plan available. 13

Project Type - Interior Design of commercial office for Noya Lifestyles Inc. Project Size - 2800 S Loca on - Mumbai , India Status - Completed Role - Principal Architect (collabora on with interior designer, Sana Shaikh)
Conference side wall - room divider with storage The triangular geometry starts small in one corner, and is tessellated as it changes size and scale to eventually move off the wall and become an open-ended room divider with internal storage and display op ons.
The brief called for a simple corporate head office space to be constructed for a bath linen manufacturer. The space had to accommodate 8-10 staff, and the 3 partner’s cabins. A conference/mee ng room with a pantry was also required to be fit. The site, being in ght corner of a building barely fit the requirements, but with a li le planning a very minimal style was selected to abstract upon the cleanliness factor of the linen. while splashes of colour and simple geometric elements were developed to form func onal par ons with storage to direct the movement through an experien al entry space, and also to set a hierarchy of space

Plan
Panoramic view of en re floor-space. The office follows a simple open plan to op mize the triangular plan shape, and take advantage of the panoramic views.
3 m i n i m a l Manager’s Cabins
The 3 main cabins were designed to be absolutely minimal wooden framed cubes with unbroken white side walls, reserving a few select pastel colours, only to provide a unique iden ty to each cabin.

Sherlock’s Pub Project Type - Architectural & interior design retrofit over vintage bungalow for corporate branded chain of pubs. Project Size - 11,200 S Loca on - Bangalore , India Status - Under construc on (comple on - June 2019)
Roadside View
Designed around the concept of a typical Bri sh industrial-era , illegal be ng bar, the pub is designed to have a very rus c ‘thrown-together’ kind of appearance. Adap ve reuse of construc on materials has been given importance throughout the space, forming part of the furniture and also the most of the built forms or ‘elements’ that compose the holis c design. The structure itself is a 40 Yr. old exis ng bungalow that has been almost completely hollowed out to form larger dining halls, while leading the guest through a long winding corridor full of puzzles, hidden doorways, and ar facts to build an addi onal layer of intrigue into the design experience.
The abstract shed form has a perforated concrete skin composed of aspecific arrangement of these two unique modules
Plan 17
3D view of Concrete screen to clad the outer shell.
The design is further broken down to 4 basic shapesX - O - + which are used to hide a coded message into the facade design itself.
The overall form of the design consists of a large portal frame structure built over the exis ng structure , enclosing massive volume of space inside. This frame is then simply covered with large precast concrete perforated panels specially designed and moulded for this project. the panels themselves are composed of individual shapes that all come together to form a coded message built into the design of the building itself. The con nuity of the perforated exterior shell is broken by two large ‘A’ frames breaking through the skin of the building in a single large pane of glass. This provides an extremely ‘outdoorsy’ dining experience with an intricate play of shadows cast from the pa erns during the day.. while at night the en re structure glows outward with a warm yellow glow of the interior lights on most nights. On nights with events the special ligh ng and sound shows held on the terrace will spill over onto the busy public street catching everyone’s eyes framed perfectly between the surrounding buildings.

Keeping true to its load bearing construc on, all the window openings are masonry arches that integrate into the new structural scheme All the openings are framed using heavy metal built-up plates unique to each loca on , these industrial frames are filled with various translucent an que bo le glass, and wired glasses to give the desired effect

Various intricate details have been developed for all areas, big and small. This detailing is essen al in integra ng tradi onal building construc on techniques, and also to conceal ambient and design ligh ng features into the structure itself. The end result is a space more true to the 1920's era it is designed around, with a majority of the suppor ng tech hidden away from the guests.

Palladium Mall, Chennai Project Type - Full interior and exterior design for Palladium Mall. Project Size - 125000 S Loca on - Chennai , India Status - Completed Role - Project team lead architect (in charge of design development and execu on)
The design focuses on “cleaning-up” the visual clu er of services and other bits that normally plague public malls. Fluidity and con nuity of surfaces and materials being the primary focus. The ceilings are made to flow in flat unbroken concentric rings achieved by “tucking-in” all the necessary services into a single black line that flows unbroken across the en re floor , crea ng a very bold and contras ng play of lines and edges.
Services Strip detail
Pen-rose mirror pieces cover the en re vaulted ceiling to create an intera c ve everchanging design
Central atrium The Palladium Mall , Chennai, was conceptualized to provide a pla orm for some of the worlds most luxurious brands to showcase their products, and as such the en re mall has been conceptualized as an interac ve art installa on that exudes a sense of luxury.
Reflec ve Zone
The main atriums were designed on an ideology of trea ng the design of these central spaces as large art installa ons using a simple play of light and reflec ons. Divided up into 2 types of installa ons, reflec ve and Key Plan Projec ve - the reflec ve zones are made up of bronze of mall mirrors cut in a penrose geometry, to allow the mirrors to flow freely over an organic curved dome, resul ng in distorted ‘coloured-blob’ reflec ons of all the people, and ac vity below. This installa on is constantly morphing and pulsa ng in real- me as the people move about their own paths. The reflec ve installa ons lead you to the main central atrium node, which has mul ple concentric rings that are all part of a programable light and sound show, for which the en re ceiling has been projec on-mapped, 23

The usually dead walls of the mall facade were clad in a zinc skin, formed in a scale line geometry that begins completely flat and then slowly grows out of the building forming a three dimensional form that becomes a programable part of a light and sound show installa on built permanently into the building.

The Object / Piece:
Pa Pa Ya, Mumbai Project Type - Interior design of an experimental fine-dining restaurant Project Size - 3200 S Loca on - Mumbai , India Status - Completed Role - Project team lead architect (in charge of design development and execu on) Malls in general provide mostly windowless awkward spaces to work within, The design was thus made to be “intrinsic” , focussing on the spacial experience within. Experimental Molecular Gastronomy being the cuisine served, the idea of a “molecular-chain” was abstracted into a single geometric cuboid (doe-decahedron) which could ‘link-up’ with one another in 6 axis’ into long chains that governed the movement and scale of the interior space, forming unique dining experiences throughout. The cuboids themselves are formed of 6 unique modules that broke the visual repe on making the flow and appear completely unique at every loca on. The walls being a canvas for the dynamic drama provided by the “cuboids”, were designed as a simple rough texture, that acts as a plain canvas for the otherwise dynamic design form. In keeping with this, a simple colour transforma on and blending has been done, as the wine red colour changes to a deep purple from one end of the restaurant to the other. 25

Project Type - Interior & Product design of a Restaurant and Pub Project Size - 4500 Sft & 7500 Sft Location - Mumbai & Pune, India Status - Completed Role - Project team lead architect (in charge of design development and execution)
Designed around the concept of re-configura on of spaces. The Restaurants were designed using a number of elements and details that allowed for the layout to be completely changed and reoriented depending on the day of the week, or crowds present at any given me.
Central floor-space cleared off chairs for a live-band / event setup
The tables themselves were designed with an internal screw mechanism to change the height from sea ng to standing tables as required. While the en re table se ngs were built on pla orms with wheels to be easily re-arrangable. Mul ple pla orms could come together in in unique arrangements to maintain a visual density of the space even on an empty day.
Heights of the screw-tables can change from sea ng to standing based on the night High Density sea ng layout 27
Event - Standing table layout
Low Density sea ng layout
The understanding that a restaurant or pub func ons completely different on a Saturday evening v/s a Tuesday evening. and even from lunch to dinner services, was the basis of the design. The layouts could be modified to accommodate various capaci es of people while ensuring the space does not look empty, even with only a few tables filled. While on a weekend event, the layout changes to maximize the number of people it can accommodate by a lateral shi in sea ng to the periphery and remove seats to fit more standing tables.

Art Gallery, Mumbai Project Type - Interior design of an Art Gallery Project Size - 9000 S Loca on - Mumbai , India Status - Completed Role - Part of the Project team (in charge of detail R&D & development) The Site was a major governing factor for the design. A large open space with columns was the blank canvas provided to us. As the gallery was meant to exhibit various forms of art, ranging in any and every size and shape imaginable, it was cri cal that the space itself served as an endlessly changing pla orm that could be organised to fit any kind of installa on or exhibi on as needed.
This allows the space to be endlessly rearranged in any permuta on-combina on required using simple logical design details. The bearings too were en rely conceptualized keeping in mind simplicity of construc on, cost of execu on and ease of use, using standard metal sec ons and frames and wheels, rather than using complicated engineering.

This was achieved by the development of a singular detail of a large rolling bearing , built in situ around the columns . The columns act as a pivot, around which each a simple steel frame mass (on wheels) could be moved back and forth or even rotated in any degree. to curate the volumes of the space and to govern a unique movement and ow through the exhibi on as required for each exhibit.

Individual le modules
In certain Scenarios, the available site has various factors, from columns and beams to varying ceiling heights etc, that restrain the possibili es of design and layout. This can develop into a very fragmented space that could come across as disjointed or accidental. It is also some mes a design requirement to create varied table experiences, However in such cases the spaces can be configured using an element that flows through or encompasses the space in its en rety. This element acts as a e member unifying the space visually or physically or both. In the case of pizza express, the space is held together by an abstrac on of a grid, developed from studying the pa erns and propor ons of the handcra ed doors and windows which were a common feature in the surrounding context of Heritage homes found in the locality. This grid encompasses the en re space, and visually unifies the en re space, even as it flows out beyond the extent of the space and into the yard and about a lilly-pond on the exterior. the grid is composed mainly of specially designed and cast concrete les however they change materials based on loca on, including wood, marble and glass les over the windows. 31

The Wireroom, Chennai was plagued with an awkward plan with varying ceiling heights and volumes. the design uses an element of woven steel cables , abstracted from the famous local ‘kancheepuram’ woven silks. This weave of steel cables unify the space and the inconsistencies of the plan, drama cally changing how the user ‘experiences’ the space. These cables are designed u s i n g a s i m p l e sy s t e m o f h a n g e rs a n d counterweights to maintain tension in the cables while s ll being true to the design.

Academic Work : CITY CULTURAL CENTER , (KHARGHAR). - Rizvi College of Architecture, Mumbai - 6th semester : - Architectural Design Studio An experiment in organic flowing steel structures with a living green skin. The design is intended to blend in seamlessly with the land, an organic steel shell supporting a green living wall system, wraps itself around the skeleton of the spaces within, thus giving the appearance of a vast contoured hill covered with lawn and slight vegetation and has dynamic concrete punctures disappearing into the hillside. As the topography unwinds itself the green-scape appears to rise up off the ground forming a cascading arch allowing the visitor to virtually cut under the site and come out on the other side. The centre is aimed to be a very free boundaryless space which merges seamlessly with the footpath surrounding it on three sides. Making it appear almost as if it was a natural hillock upon which visitors can explore their way about this cultural melting pot and share ideas and interact with other visitors, all while being oriented to accentuate a view of the mountain ranges which are in the background of the public square. [which is also the centre stage for large scale public art]
The structure is designed to be open and fluid, in terms of movement, so that the visitors can walk over the structure and use the a m p h i t h e at re / g re e n spaces on the building

Academic Work : ELEVATED MONORAIL STATION - Rizvi College of Architecture, Mumbai - 4th semester : - Architectural Design Studio An experiment in form- based design development
View of proposed public garden below suspended sta on
Taking inspira on from the human form, the idea was to give back to the city what it needs the most. open public green spaces, by crea ng a vast column free space below the sta on by suspending the sta on from a number of ‘Mega-columns’. The concept is based on the mechanics of the human body involved in li ing heavy loads and understanding the load-transfer from the body to the ground. The major roadway has been taken underground where safe unloading areas have been provided, connec ng directly to the sta on and public park above. The form of the sta on itself is meant to be very delicate and light, being just a vast tubular truss shaded by horizontal fins within certain segments to create a very light ‘arcade in the sky’ feel to it.

Academic Work : HIGH DENSITY HOUSING COMPLEX - Rizvi College of Architecture, Mumbai - 5 th semester : - Architectural Design Studio An experiment in vierendeel structural systems - stacked villas, with private backyards The driving factor behind the design was to not just create houses, but homes. Regardless of what your income status is, a house needs to feel personal and an owner needs to feel that sense of belonging to make it a home, and this was achieved by crea ng each residence stacked correctly to provide a front ‘green space’ and even a back yard. Which residents could consider as their very own bungalows with their own private gardens stacked on top of another.
An external staircase connects all the residences
Sec onal eleva on through external stairwell
Structurally the form is comprised of a modular extendable vierendeel girder system, which is completely self-suppor ng and structurally sound and even provide column free spaces within each unit to allow for complete liberty of design internally. Each level pivots about a central core running services and u li es to each unit, thus resul ng in a very dynamic overall design, that truly symbolises the phrase, order in chaos. With private green corners for all residents, and clima cally designed for cross ven la on and adequate insula on, owners can truly call these tranquil spaces amidst the chaos of the city, their home.

3 -D Massing model of township - Birds-eye view Birds-eye view of commercial complex including offices / recrea on /cinema and an en re mall - rising out of the landscape
The Design brief was to plan, design and detail a Neighbourhood of Roughly a square kilometre in area. The site would include residen al spaces for all economic segments of society, It would also contain green open spaces ,office buildings, ins tu ons and ameni es and also commercial centres like a hotel, a mall and mul plex to cater to all the needs of the neighbourhood. My approach to this problem was to create a completely ‘Car-free’ pedestrianized neighbourhood, which would be a module for future developments. All such “neighbourhoods” are connected by a mass transit system, thus elimina ng the need to take a personal vehicle while travelling between neighbourhoods.
Conceptual zoning of an individual CAR-FREE Neighbourhood
Car-free doesn’t mean car-less, access is provided to each residen al building via peripheral roads along the boundaries of the neighbourhood. However the internal roads are reserved for pedestrians mainly. [except emergency vehicles]. The network of pedestrian pathways criss-crosses its way about mul ple gardens and green zones and eventually spills out into a public plaza which is the forefront for the mall and mul plex. The structure of the mul plex is submerged into the hill, making the boundary between the built and the un-built blurred from within the community, while from the periphery the centre has a solid stone and glass façade not giving the slightest clue of the hidden world on the other side.

Mul ple such “neighbourhoods can be connected using a mass transit system toprovide an op on or a car free city
