Glycemic control, systolic arterial hypertension (SAH), lipids (fats) and proteinuria (excess protein in the urine) are essential for patients with kidney problems, said Dr. Néstor García Prugue, during his speech at the Regional Congress of Internal Medicine. The specialist gave the presentation “Management of the renal patient in predialitic stage”, on Saturday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the National Polytechnic Institute. A balanced, hyposodic and hypothetical diet (low in salt and protein) is also recommended for all patients with kidney problems. The doctor is a member of the International Society of Nephrology and the College of Nephrology of Mexico and showed graphs with statistics to attendees about the size of the global health problem. “In Mexico, we are in the first place worldwide for obesity in children, in adults we must be in second place. In the United States, about 40 percent of diabetic patients have kidney failure. Here in Mexico, we walk a little higher, but in different statistics”, he said. García Prugue explained that in a study conducted in Querétaro with diabetic patients in 2011 there were 6.6 million and currently a population of 120 million people is an estimated 14 million diabetics. As risk factors in the population for this disease, he mentioned advanced age, black or Hispanic race, low socioeconomic status, hypertension, and obesity. “As factors of progression, which we should avoid, poorly controlled arterial hypertension, poorly controlled diabetes, smoking, anemia, and obesity”, he express. Early diagnosis is important to avoid the development of renal damage, determine the most effective drug treatment and timely referral in the third level of care. At the end of his talk, the doctor received recognition from the College of Internal Medicine of Reynosa, A.C.<

Glaucoma is a group of diseases that are characterized by affecting the optic nerve progressively and irreversibly, which is responsible for sending signals to the brain to have the ability to see, if not treated with the doctor this condition can cause loss of vision and total blindness. According to projections by the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2020 there will be 11 million affected globally. It is estimated that only 10 percent of the population knows that they have glaucoma; Most of the time in the early stages it does not present symptoms, but as it progresses, defects appear in the visual field and progressive loss of vision. “When not seeing well is caused by glaucoma, it means that the disease has already advanced a lot; not seeing well or having diseases in the eye is enough for someone to go to the specialist, the only way to detect glaucoma is to go regularly to the specialized doctor. “Once the patient has glaucoma, he or she must understand that it is not cured, they must learn to live with the disease, manage it with medicines and surgeries,” said the UANL Ophthalmology Service specialist, Jibran Mohamed Noriega. As part of the campaigns for the timely detection of glaucoma, Mohamed Noriega provides the following information to raise awareness and educate society about this disease: “Any patient that visits the Polyclinic, for whatever reason, must go through a series of ophthalmic tests to rule out glaucoma and have timely detection.” The follow-up of at-risk patients who have first-degree relatives with glaucoma and people who have had problem on their eyes,” he said The Ophthalmology Service of the UANL maintains a permanent
This surgery involves replacing the natural crystalline lens with a prosthesis called an intraocular lens, which is made of a particularly soft material that functions as it was there, allowing the patient to see again. Although the ambulatory surgery lasts approximately 10 minutes per eye, the patient must be careful not to run the risk of getting an infection, an increase in intraocular pressure, inflammation or bleeding. The recovery of three to five days is relatively quick, a 15-day rest is recommended, do not carry heavy things, do not attend heavily contaminated places, put antibiotic and anti-inflammatory drops, do not cook, or even make up your eyes if you are a woman. It should be noted that cataracts cause reversible blindness, fortunately, this condition is treated, laser surgery is the most effective. Suggest learning to use emotional intelligence SUGIERE APRENDER A USAR LA INTELIGENCIA EMOCIONAL By | Por Pamela Escobar
MARÍA CRISTINA PEÑA. UDEM Egresada de la Universidad de Monterrey. Especialista en neuropsicología.

Learning to be aware of the role that emotions take is important to knovw how to handle emotional intelligence, which is reflected in the daily life and work of each person. According to the psychologist María Cristina Peña, from the Lancet Clinic, emotional intelligence is a road learned by all human beings and serves not to act according to their emotions impulsively. “Emotional intelligence is this concept that allows us to know ourselves first, and to act wisely”, said the graduate of the University of Monterrey (UDEM), who has a specialty in neuropsychology. She pointed out that emotional intelligence is one that allows them to interact in the best way with their loved ones, to know how to control some strong emotions and to act wisely with others. It implies thinking constructively, in a way that they do not get into trouble, sometimes people think that it is a skill that they bring from inheritance, but what can be measured is the intellectual capacity, which can be measured through exams to find out what they are most apt for, in science or sports or for interpersonal relationships. “But this of how to get along with others, and have social awareness and can understand the other, and their emotions, is a skill that is learned and that we human beings intentionally change or try to transform when we are sad, angry or afraid”, she explained. This, she said, has to do with skills that must be practiced, such as removing habits that do not suit. “It sounds so pretty nice when I started to get involved with them, I realized that it’s true, more than 40 years dealing with people with strong emotional problems, children who have very complicated personality disorders, adults who have suicidal ideas and I started teaching them these skills and the surprise is that they felt better, and they no longer took medication”, she express. Once people feel identified, it is important to understand that they are responsible for how they feel, “we are not going to blame the world, or the government on how we feel, it is a process of learning to transform the intensity of sadness and anger”. The child psychotherapy specialist said that if children learn from an early age, when they are adults they will be emotionally intelligent; It implies that they can be well with themselves and be well with others, in relationships of winning, of solidarity, of having a healthy communication, without criticism, with the ability to inspire others. “Hence the importance of participating in the workshops where we are going to involve parents and teachers to teach and guide these skills and that can work, it is a very nice project that we will start with preschool, it is a very productive program, in this stage of my life I have nothing left but to give them a tool”.<

Alejandro Gómez Luna, an doctor who attends to weight control in Mexico, spoke about the importance of getting a good diagnosis to provide effective treatment to patients. The internist, teaching clinician, and protocolist acknowledged that it is not so simple to approach a person with obesity because it can have a multifactorial origin that is involved at the molecular level. That is why he insists on giving adequate treatment to have a therapeutic success with the patient. “It is well known that anthropometric formula where we were told that we had to multiply the size by the square meter and make a division between the weight and the kilograms to obtain the body mass index, that if it exceeds certain thresholds we can stratify obesity”, he said. The specialist dictated the topic “Rethinking obesity” on August 30 at 10:30 am at the VII Regional Congress of Internal Medicine, held at the National Polytechnic Institute. THERE IS THE DETAIL The rapporteur of the College of Internal Medicine of Reynosa A.C. He pondered that doctors constantly receive cases of overweight and obesity in their consultations, but not necessarily all are what they appear. “How many occasions have we seen chubby patients arrive and we think that by checking their blood pressure and their hormonal function; that by doing an echocardiographic stroke, a lipid test and glycemic control constants are going to be very crazy? surely very bad and surprise, they are healthier than you and me together.

“But then there come skinny guys who don’t even have a belly and we would dare to say they are athletic. We see its glucose tolerance curve, it’s resting electrodynamic, its glycosylated hemoglobin, its lipids, its blood pressure, a series of values that we do and we find that they are recalcitrant diabetic, with hormonal dysfunction and an aberrant electrocardiographic stroke and dyslipidemia. “And then why the chubby did not present that and the athletic skinny did have that type of alterations? Precisely because of the lipotoxicity in the malfunction of the so-called fat-organ and also by the signals that are being generated for the balance of the appetite and satiety in that patient”, he explained. That’s why the doctor explained that you don’t have to be fat to get to obesity stages as such and there are other scenarios that you should pay attention too, because obesity is not necessarily located in superficial fat deposits and subcutaneous tissues, but also in the visceral, intra-abdominal and intracavitary areas. “This means that some patients have their adipocyte with a very accelerated metabolic exchange rate, making metabolic decontrol, not like the fat deposit, which is another territory that is at rest. This lipotoxicity causes people to have metabolic dysfunction”, he compares. The specialist explained that obesity is associated with the appearance of carcinomas induced by excessive intake, runaway and a sign of uncontrolled satiety. “Because people are eating too much, waking up wrong biochemical signals causing the fat to become catabolic”, he express. For this reason, obesity has this disease rating, since before it was doubted that this could be a pathological state, but not only sufficient to catalog it, but to identify it properly to be able to better help patients. <

The professor-researcher Grissel Trujillo de Santiago carried out the work entitled “Use of continuous chaotic 3D bio-printing to manufacture vascularized tissues”, with the long-term objective of printing tissues and functional organs for patients who require a transplant. In the short and medium term, these tissues and simpler versions of organs can be used as study models for drugs or cosmetics to avoid or minimize animal tests. “Today, printing a complete organ seems like science fiction, but as a scientific community, we are managing to advance rapidly. We are getting closer to fulfilling that dream”, said the Monterrey Campus professor, who was awarded the Scholarships for Women in Science L’Oreal-Unesco-Conacyt-AMC 2019. The printing technology proposed by Dr. Trujillo and her group consists of the use of chaotic flows to generate fine and complex microstructures formed by cells embedded in hydrogels. These cells and hydrogels feed and incubate until they mature and form small tissues similar to humans. The architecture at the microscale achieved by the chaotic flows is important for the tissue to be
This breakthrough was published on the cover of the magazine Materials Horizons in 2018. The scholarship with the teacher in Sciences by the Tecnológico de Monterrey was recognized and consists of economic support of 100 thousand pesos, which will be used for the research project. “The stage that we will start and that will be partially funded with the grant is very exciting because we are going to start testing this technology to solve one of the most important challenges of 3D bio-printing of organs and tissues: manufacture, in a fast and efficient way, thick tissues with internal vasculature that keep the tissue alive and healthy”, she explained. The researcher hopes that this recognition will also give visibility to her research group, which will open opportunities on different fronts to establish academic collaborations with other universities and attract talented students to the graduate”. The teacher-researcher pointed out the importance of encouraging and bringing new generations of women an early age to science. “The researchers of my generation have a great responsibility with the new generations of girls and young women since we are fortunate to live in a time in which the participation of women in science is promoted and valued more and more, this was something that perhaps our mentors did not live”. “It is important to do great things in research and become worthy role models for these girls and young people, to show them that we can. Inherit them an equitable academic world with a greater presence of women and scientific leadership”, she concluded. (Taken from Tec Review).<

Panic attack, learn to handle it ATAQUE DE PÁNICO, APRENDA A MANEJARLO PSICOLOGY
There are more and more frequent cases of attacks, which can be provoked immediately when someone feels an intense fear.

On a night of heavy rain, something causes some memory in the mind: strong lightning is heard and the emotion of fear is removed. Suddenly palpitations arise, a pounding of the heart begins to sweat, the body trembles almost faints and feels a feeling of suffocation. “I’m going to die,” Rafael confesses. It is a panic attack. It could be caused by anything: a stress situation, an argument with a family member, a break with your partner, a customer’s claim at work or even watching the scandalous news on television. The young man explains that his stomach ached and unable to control his emotions he went to the emergency room at a local hospital. “It is an anxiety disorder that occurs with an unexpected and repetitive attack, with the appearance of intense fear or worry, which reaches its maximum expression in a matter of minutes, so it paralyzes the person’s action”, indicates the clinical psychologist César Omar Hinojosa Espinosa. He points out that those who have a panic attack feel fear, without having an apparent cause, that they cause various physiological, biochemical and emotional reactions, losing their concentration or ability of what they were doing. The organizational specialist ensures that the panic attack occurs more frequently in women, but it also occurs in men, which affects them in their daily activity. “By going through an intense level of fear, they stop what they are doing. There are two factors, scientifically proven, can be genetic or emotional, in the end, it is an accumulation of worry, anxiety or stress and that abruptly leaves, affecting your social, family or work sphere”, he said. In his experience, what follows is that he falls into depression, without becoming an aggressive person, who must be treated with medication and psychotherapy. “When a person suffers continuous problems of panic attacks, he may have an identity problem, ceasing to be productive. Another thing we work on is to identify tangible fears, which can be traced back to childhood, it seeks to heal those fears, which are precautions and the mother teaches them to protect them from the dangers they may have”, he express. For the specialist, people of the last century, who were in less contact with technology did not have these conditions, perhaps because they were not known because the diagnostic criteria of the American Psychiatric Association
“Voy a morir”, confiesa Rafael.

He noted that the person with this disorder often feels concern about the effects of their panic attacks, hypervigilance the symptoms to verify when the panic attack appears. “After a panic attack situation falls into depression, so it is recommended to avoid the consumption of alcohol, drugs, and coffee. That is why pharmacological and psychological treatment should be sought. “I have been working for 19 years and have treated many people with attacks to get out of their problem; I work hard to recognize their triggers, to know what activates their fear, to have them consciously remember by direct experience or because they were told”, he said. Also, fears can be identified where they come from, if they come from their father or mother, to work with their self-esteem so that they have a better self-concept. These fears become stigmatized with spots on the skin that look like burns, a sign that must be cured when entering tranquility.

had night terror or fear of the dark, when he grew up he did not face it and since fear is evolutionary, it can be transformed into a panic attack”, he said. The difference with anxiety is that the panic attack occurs in a matter of minutes, so there may be those who run from a place, because of what is happening to them. “In my experience, there is no regular pattern, attacks change in each person. We do not know its intensity and the time it takes to relax. It is unforeseen and intense, so anyone loses their coherence”. One way out can be to tend to take drugs, alcohol, play, overeating, watching TV series, exercising non-stop, or just being always busy so as not to think about the fear they feel. In a recent case, he treated a patient who was not eating, because she felt she was sick and went into depression, but thanks to a treatment she is already recovering. “The answer is that they seek self-love because a depressive person does not love himself, he feels that he has not fulfilled the expectations, that he is a loser. But when he understands that he is worth, his cells automatically understand that this message of contempt is not true, because they can connect with love, so they can make more sense to live”, he express.<

Eye: cosmetics can cause harm OJO: LOS COSMÉTICOS PUEDEN CAUSAR DAÑO By | Por Redacción
Women should be careful with the use and handling of cosmetics, since using products in poor condition can cause infections, especially if they come into contact with the eyes. Pedro Martínez Amador, a dermatologist, explained that the eyes are one of the most sensitive parts of the body, and their easy exposure and contact with external factors such as dust, air, and content of the beautifying products can cause some kind of discomfort. He noted that although there are currently a variety of items designed to be used in that area of the face without being aggressive, he acknowledged that the environment can alter its chemical composition and cause infections. “The eyes are the most sensitive area of the face, so you should be extremely careful in the treatments that women apply, because that area can start with a small irritation and eye allergy, which manifests itself with itching and congestion , then they can inflame the eyelids, causing irritation at the edges and a constant itching, ”he said. The specialist of the General Hospital of Zone (HGZ) number 15 emphasized that hygiene should always be preserved, not to share with other people brushes, sponges or other items to apply makeup since they are a route of transmission of bacteria and mites. It is recommended that in case of any discomfort in the eyes or adverse reaction due to the use of makeup, the use be suspended immediately, as well as avoiding self-medication with products that could damage vision. < FRONTERA DOCTORS | Septiembre 2019

Huntington’s Korea, papal disease COREA DE HUNTINGTON, ENFERMEDAD PAPAL DISEASES
By | Por Ricardo Romano / Monterrey, N.L.
Many know diseases that affect the motor control of the body, the best known is probably the one that afflicted Pope John Paul II for years and is called Huntington’s Korea. This disease is hereditary and causes progressive wear on the neurons of the brain, causes movement, thinking, and psychiatric disorders, according to Mayo Clinic. Symptoms commonly occur between 30 and 40 years. Although there are treatments to control the sensations, the physical, mental and behavioral deterioration associated with the disease cannot be avoided. Pope John Paul II was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which deteriorated his activity, and therefore his pontificate. A disease with certain similarities to Huntington has specific differences such as the type of motor abnormalities or their causes. In particular, Huntington is caused by a hereditary defect of a single gene. A person needs a copy of the defective gene to suffer from the disorder. Each child of a person with this disease has 50 percent of the disease in the future. Once the symptoms begin to develop, the functional abilities gradually get worse. The progress and duration are 10 to 30 years leading to death. According to studies published in the journal “Biological Psychiatry”, the issue is approached from a preventive approach, that is, before the onset of motor degeneration. “One of the objectives now is to analyze whether this strategy is also valid, once and the symptoms have manifested,” said researcher Silvia Ginés. And it is Cdk5, an essential enzyme, which could explain the pathophysiology of Huntington’s disease behavior. The above regarding that this disease has 40 percent of those affected with depressive symptoms that in some cases lead to suicide, so future pharmacological strategies are sought to address the mental disorder.<

Progeria, life upside down PROGERIA, LA VIDA AL REVÉS DISEASES
By | Por Elsa Fernández / Madrid, España
Have you ever heard of progeria? It is one of those rare diseases with little information and many do not know that it exists. It affects a small part of the population, always in children, specifically between the ages of 1 and 3 years. It affects one in 4 to 8 million people, according to data issued by the research of the EURORDIS (The European Organization for Rare Diseases), it is estimated that there are about 200 cases in the world. Progeria is also known as the Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition, which causes children in their first years of life to develop in an unusual way that their body condition ages. His physical appearance is practically like that of an elderly person, some of the features are short stature, dry and wrinkled skin, with spots, premature baldness, and impaired teething. Although this disease not only develops physically but degenerates inside people, causing diseases such as heart problems, osteoporosis, arteriosclerosis, arthritis, and cataracts. This is the story of Sammy Baso, who was born in 1995, in Italy. Six months after birth, his parents realized that his body began to change and his growth slowed down suddenly. However, Sammy with this disease did not stop his desire to live. Doctors estimated that he would not live more than 13 years, but, on the contrary, he is 23 years old today and has a degree in Biology. He is usually invited to congresses to give talks around the world and his name appears among the recent signatories of a scientific breakthrough, led by the genista Carlos López-Otín, of the University of Oviedo. “It is true that progeria does not prevent me from projecting my future and doing all the really important things like studying, thinking about a job, enjoying my friends and my family, going to parties ... being happy”, he said.<

Ouch! That really hurts: it’s otitis ¡OUCH!, ESO SÍ QUE DUELE: ES OTITIS If your child complains of pain or itching in the ear, has a high temperature and deafness could be otitis.
By | Por Beatriz Flores
The inflammation of the ear is defined as otitis and the otolaryngologist José Luis Salinas González explained that it is divided into three areas and depending on which area or anatomical site the condition is, it will receive its name. External otitis is located in the area that goes from the ear to the tympanic membrane, in the so-called outer ear. The middle ear is composed of a pneumatic box containing three bones: hammer, yunke and stirrup, and when inflamed it is called otitis media. The doctor explained that as for otitis that occurs in the inner ear, it is called internal otitis. “We can also call it by the time of evolution if it has 15 days of onset it is called acute otitis media or acute otitis externa and becomes chronic when they are older”, said the doctor. He added that another way to typify them is through the pathogen that produces it and can be viral or bacterial.
OTITIS MEDIA THE MOST COMMON Regardless of the type of otitis that is suffered, what is most striking is the intense pain and when it worsens, hearing loss can occur, which is the loss of hearing ability; In addition to fever, discharge of whitish or greenish-yellowish secretion and this happens when the eardrum has been perforated. The severity of the perforation depends on its percentage, understanding that the eardrum represents one hundred percent. The specialist commented that the most dangerous thing about otitis media is that the roof of the ear communicates with the cranial cavity, which is where the brain is and it is believed that most of the infectious processes of the central nervous system are caused by an ear infection. “It is important that before any symptoms of a child in the ear go to your doctor, it is also very painful, have a high fever, a lot of pain, scratch the ear or stick to the head”, he said.
POOLS, DAMS AND RIVERS BETWEEN THE CAUSES The treatment is focused on ending the symptoms, so an antibiotic is indicated, in case there is an infectious process, medicine for fever and pain, as well as systemic and topical decongestants. “The systemic decongestant is given through the mouth to clean the nose and improve ear ventilation and topical spray decongestants are to improve the function and ventilation of the Eustachian tube, which is the important organ in almost all middle ear infections”, he express. As a form of prevention recommended before going to swim and an hour later, apply in the ear two drops of a mixture made with vinegar and alcohol in equal amounts, as long as the ear is healthy and not perforated. <
34

PSYCHOLOGY
By | Por Daniela Aranda
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as “the state of well-being in which the individual is aware of their abilities, can face the normal tensions of life, can work productively and fruitfully and, can make a contribution to their community.” Currently, there are massive mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, anorexia, bulimia, and attention deficit, among others. In Mexico, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) points out that 32.5 percent of the inhabitants over 12 years of age suffer some level of occasional depression, while about 20 of them experience it frequently. The reality is that, despite the importance of mental health care, there is no such culture in the community, due to the prejudice that exists when attending with a specialist in it. Ana Marcela González, a clinical psychologist and psychology coordinator at the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), commented that the Mexican population is just opening up to the possibility of going to a psychologist to help solve their problems. “Using this technique of ‘solving things at home’, generally in traditional families, the needs of behavior and expressions can be repressed, and by accumulating these unsolved problems, they can be detonated later,” she said. She attributed that there are prejudices about mental health care, in the beliefs of Mexican culture and this goes back to the beginning of society itself. According to the WHO, about 800 thousand people commit suicide in the world every year. In Mexico, 6,559 suicide deaths were recorded in 2017, an average of 17 daily suicides and more than 81 percent of them committed by men. In the world, suicide is the second cause of death among people aged 15 to 29, being an act linked to the neglect of mental illness. It is considered a preventable act, and that when carried out it affects and damages both the affected and those close to him. A university student commented that he currently attends regular sessions with the university psychologist, a free service and with the versatility of schedules. “The popular belief that one does not need anyone’s help and the shame that sometimes surrounds admitting the visits to a health professional, are some of the reasons why many students do not go,” she said. University’s psychologist, Zyanya Castañeda Mercado, shared that each week she receives about 35 students. In 5 years the students of the campus are attended and generally, they work together with the coordinators of the races. Seeking help from a psychologist can often make a difference in a person’s life, he said. WHO predicts that by 2020 depression will be the second leading cause of disability in the world and the first in developing countries. Everything suggests that shortly it will be characterized by the continued increase in mental illnesses. We face a long and hard work as a society, to start practicing empathy, understanding and the constant battle against ignorance, said the specialist.

During the last two years, tourism has increased in Tamaulipas, thanks to the coordination with the three levels of government, which has allowed it to offer security and surveillance in the road networks, as well as to the visitors. Tamaulipas seeks to strengthen a synergy with Texas that allows the regional development of this entity and one of the areas contemplated for economic growth is health, according to Dr. Eva Lilia García de González, president of the Medical Cluster and resident of the Villa de Nuevo Progress. García de González, in addition to being a doctor, chaired a social service foundation for the community called “Mabel Foundation”, which offers scholarships and free dental medical service, ophthalmologic surgeries twice a year and delivery of pantries for low-income people. Nuevo Progreso is a community located in the municipality of Río Bravo in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, according to the 2010 Inegi census. It has a population of just over 10,000. The formation of the Villa de Nuevo Progreso originates after the hurricane Beulah made landfall on September 19, 1967, which modified the course of the waters of the Rio Grande, because before that there was only the town of Rancho Las Flores, on its south side and Progreso Lakes, in Texas, on the north side of the river and there was no international bridge, the closest was in the community of Rio Rico, municipality of Matamoros, 23 kilometers east of Las Flores, but that collapsed on that occasion. When the course of the water farther to the north is altered, the Village of Nuevo Progreso is formed, named because the American town of Progreso was in its place, leaving this territory as Mexican soil, according to the International Boundary and Water Commission between Mexico and the United States. Nuevo Progreso currently has great popularity for its medical services and is visited by foreigners, so much so, that the most used currency is the dollar. Visitors prefer to go to the doctor or dentist, to have clinical exams, or even go shopping for their low prices compared to those in Texas.

The international bridge of Nuevo Progreso is short, but at the same time very safe, that is why people have the facility to park their vehicles on the American side to cross walking on the Mexican side. There is no need to take your car as it is a very small town you can visit on foot. In May, Nuevo Progreso received international recognition for being one of the two most accessible villages in medical tourism in the world. The second place is Algodones, Baja California. The president of the Medical Cluster commented that tourism in Nuevo Progreso represents the highest percentage of the economy since it has a type of tourism called outpatient tourism, which consists of care and diagnosis in less than 24 hours. “Nuevo Progreso gives the patients the assurance that they are in good hands and those who belong to this group are one hundred percent professional and safe,” she said. García de González invited all people to visit Nuevo Progreso, as it is a town that has great services and offers excellent prices. (Pamela Escobar / UVM Edition).<

‘My house is your house’: Nuevo Progreso ‘MI CASA ES TU CASA’: NUEVO PROGRESO By | Por José Luis Montemayor | Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas
Drinking a beer in the street is allowed in Nuevo Progreso, which would be a crime in Reynosa or any other city. Some bars offer cold beer in a bottle or can, as well as margaritas and other types of refreshing drinks. It is because of their careful medical and dental care because about 300 dentists serve American visitors because they know that the service and price are better than what is offered in Texas clinics. “Welcome, what can I do for you?”, says a receptionist immediately upon arrival, at one of the clinics, “do you like a bottle of water? The doctor will see you in a moment”. The restaurants, bars, the variety of handicrafts make this tourist place an attraction for everyone, even for the locals themselves. Here they charge in dollars in pizzerias, roast taquerías, as well as in fast-food restaurants, they have their menus with the quotation of the American currency, but the prices are accessible, and even some have the ambiance of a singer, who They make diners have a pleasant time. “My house is your house, come in my friends. Do you like a shrimp cocktail as an appetizer?”, says a waiter in a seafood restaurant, with a wide smile, which for now, for its kindness, has already earned the tip. A variety of pots, paintings, and some stores with a very good assortment of merchandise, including some pharmacy products, which are sold by prescription or without a prescription, when it comes to uncontrolled medicines. Most of the “gringos”, a term that gets used without being derogatory in Mexico, leaves their cars in a parking lot located on the Texas side of Progreso, then cross on foot on the Tamaulipas side. This is comfortable, so as not to have problems with the return that could be congested cars, for the current holiday season. Only a UETA store that offers Mexicans purchases without taxes is the one that crosses the bridge, but nothing more: the variety of products can be found only in Nuevo Progreso. When you visit this border, do not forget that you will be greeted with kindness, waiting for you to be happy, so that you return very soon. <

< Septiembre 2019 | FRONTERA DOCTORS
