Por desconocimiento de algunos médicos o por petición de los padres, a los niños les recetan diversos medicamentos que no son tan efectivos y sí pueden tener peligrosos efectos secundarios.

STAFF DOCTORS Ante la presencia de enfermedades respiratorias, muchos médicos recetan a los pequeños cuatro jarabes que ya forman parte del botiquín de muchos hogares: el antibiótico, el de la fiebre, el de la tos y el que combatirá a los mocos.

Lamentablemente las molestias no siempre desaparecen, generando mayor preocupación entre los padres.

La doctora Iris Rentería, otorrinolaringóloga pediatra informó en su artículo “Los 4 jarabes del Apocalipsis”, que entre un 85 y un 90 por ciento de las infecciones respiratorias en los niños son causadas por virus.

Esto es un catarro o resfriado común, mientras que la gripe es un término usado para referirse a la infección por virus de la influenza y se utiliza el término gripe o “gripa” para referirse al escurrimiento o congestión nasal.

En la información publicada en la página www.otorrinodeninos.com, la especialista dice que este padecimiento, es decir, las infecciones por virus, no se curan con medicamento.

“El cuerpo se encarga de eliminar los virus en alrededor de cinco a siete días por sí solo, le des lo que le des. Es muy común que se receten antibióticos, pero no ayudan en nada, ya que su función únicamente es combatir bacterias, no virus”, detalló la doctora.

“Es la forma natural en que evoluciona una infección por virus. Nos damos cuenta de que ya no hay nada que temer porque el niño regresa a su ánimo y actividad normal, anda comiendo, jugando y dando guerra, sólo que con algo de mocos o tos”, expresó la especialista. Éstos desaparecerán en algunas semanas y son molestias normales.

Comentó que debido a la preocupación que generan en los padres y el desconocimiento de muchos médicos es que se receta este esquema típico de jarabes.

ANTIBIÓTICO

La especialista en Medicina de Sueño explicó que solamente de un 10 a un 15 por ciento de las infecciones de nariz o garganta tienen un origen bacteriano.

Es decir, de 10 niños que reciben antibiótico por esta causa sólo a uno le servirá, por el contrario, tendrá efectos negativos como un barrido de la flora intestinal y dará trabajo adicional a hígado y riñones.

El antibiótico se indicará cuando la fiebre persista por más de cuatro o cinco días, el niño no presente mejoría y

sufra una recaída, falta de apetito, las amígdalas estén inflamadas y presenten exudados, es decir, puntos blancos.

También cuando el paciente ha presentado mocos espesos y tos por más de 10 días sin mejoría.

Deberán indicarse antibióticos eficaces contra microbios de vías respiratorias y lamentablemente algunos como eritromicina, azitromicina, claritromicina o trimetroprim-sulfametoxazol ya no tienen mucha utilidad, ya que las bacterias se han vuelto resistentes.

Otros, como la amikacina o gentamicina, pueden ser tóxicos para los oídos y provocar sordera.

Dijo que los antivirales son otra categoría que no corresponde a los antibióticos, sino que son medicinas que van dirigidas contra virus.

Sin embargo, los que están disponibles en el mercado no sirven contra todos los virus, únicamente contra algunas variedades y otros ya han dejado de ser efectivos, como son la amantadina y la rimantadina que no atacan a los virus de la influenza.

FIEBRE

Se considera fiebre cuando la temperatura corporal es mayor a 38 grados centígrados y no es una enfermedad sino una defensa del cuerpo contra la infección.

La doctora explicó que no es peligrosa y que no deja secuelas en el cerebro, solamente del 4 al 7 por ciento de la población padece de convulsiones febriles que no dependen del grado de temperatura, sino de la predisposición genética de la persona para padecerlas.

“La principal razón por la que un niño recibe medicinas para la fiebre es la fiebrefobia, es decir, el miedo de los padres de que le pase algo por tener fiebre. Algunos de mis pacientes han sido intoxicados por sus papás, les administraron demasiado medicamento para la fiebre por miedo a que algo les pasara y terminó ocurriendo algo peor”, mencionó la especialista.

Explicó que los antipiréticos tardan entre una y dos horas en bajar un grado centígrado, por lo que no es necesario tomarle la temperatura constantemente ni dar antiinflamatorios compuestos.

Las razones válidas para administrar un medicamento contra la fiebre es cuando el niño presente decaimiento, dolor muscular o escalofríos.

PARA EL ESCURRIMIENTO NASAL Y LA TOS

En la publicación realizada en la página Otorrino de Niños se informa que desde el 2008, Food and Drugs Administration (FDA, por sus siglas en inglés), la agencia que se encarga de regular medicamentos en Estados Unidos, recomienda

no dar antigripales ni medicina para la tos a menores de 2 años y tratar de evitarlos con niños de entre 2 y 4.

Al utilizarlos existen riesgos de efectos adversos e incluso intoxicación, ya que su seguridad no está comprobada.

Existen distintos grupos de medicamentos que se venden sin receta para el escurrimiento nasal y la tos: antitusígenos o supresores de tos (dextrometorfano), expectorantes (ambroxol, guaifesina, acetilcisteína), antihistamínicos (loratadina, cetirizina, levocetirizina, fexofenadina, clorfenamina y difenhidramina), así como descongestivos (fenilefrina).

El problema de ellos es que algunos contienen más de un medicamento y se puede estar duplicando o triplicando la dosis.

Además, comentó que los antigripales no son muy útiles para controlar los mocos y tampoco sirven para “secarlos”.

“Los fármacos para la tos tampoco tienen mucha efectividad. En mi consulta, generalmente los papás y mamás se sorprenden de que no recete jarabes para la tos, y es muy común que me pidan que le indique algo al niño. Suelo preguntarles: ¿cuál jarabe para la tos les ha funcionado? Después de una pausa, todos concluyen que ninguno. Pues sí, los jarabes para la tos no curan la tos, sólo disminuyen por un rato el síntoma. Podrían incluso enmascarar padecimientos graves como una neumonía”, explicó.

Los jarabes que tienen broncodilatadores como el salbutamol o el clenbuterol tampoco son efectivos y pueden causar taquicardia.

No son recomendables para niños menores de 4 años y lo ideal es utilizar fármacos inhalados.

Concluyó su texto, mencionando que los mocos y la tos son defensas del organismo y al ser persistentes se debe investigar su razón, la cual puede deberse a infección, alergia, rinitis no alérgica, asma u otros problemas bronquiales como rinosinusitis o deficiencias en el sistema inmune.

Por Beatriz Flores La lipoescultura es un procedimiento estético que tiene como finalidad mejorar áreas del contorno corporal mediante la extracción de grasa, como el abdomen, región lumbar, cintura y espalda, en algunos casos se puede acompañar con una mejora en el aspecto de los brazos y los muslos.

En determinadas situaciones se pueden intervenir algunas otras partes como el cuello.

El cirujano plástico certificado Vidkar Iván Campos Martínez, explicó que no todas las personas son candidatas para este procedimiento y una de las principales causas es el no tener un IMC (Índice de Masa Corporal) adecuado.

“Esta cirugía no está encaminada a una reducción del peso corporal, va encaminada a mejorar la silueta del cuerpo, cuando existe un IMC muy alto, que es arriba de 30, los riesgos de complicaciones que están latentes en todas la cirugías se colocan muy por encima”, explicó.

La lipoescultura está recomendada para quienes no tienen obesidad, en casos donde no hay flacidez o relajación de la piel.

Las mujeres que hayan tenido un parto o cesárea deberán esperar por lo menos tres meses en adelante.

A los pacientes que se han sometido a una cirugía bariátrica para bajar de peso se les recomienda someterse a una cirugía postbariátrica que va encaminada a corregir aquellas áreas que hayan quedado con flacidez como brazos, busto, abdomen, espalda, muslos y glúteos.

ANTES DE LA CIRUGÍA

Antes de realizarse, se debe hacer una buena evaluación de cada caso, según el especialista, hay que evaluar en quién si y en quién no se puede obtener un buen resultado.

El paciente que tenga sobrepeso deberá tratar de bajar de forma saludable los kilos de más, haciendo ejercicio y si-

guiendo un plan alimenticio sugerido y supervisado por un nutriólogo.

También se realizarán estudios preliminares como los preoperatorios, se tomarán medidas de todas las zonas que se van a trabajar para tener un antecedente “del antes y el después” y se sacarán imágenes para demostrar los cambios.

RIESGOS

El especialista en cirugía plástica, estética y reconstructiva dijo que es un pro-

cedimiento que se realiza siempre en el quirófano de un hospital o clínica certificada que tenga todos los insumos y procesos de esterilización y cuidados para que el paciente esté seguro.

“Este procedimiento no es fácil ni simple, aunque pudiera parecerlo; es sumamente complejo porque es a ciegas, ¿qué quiere decir? que no se está viendo por donde está pasando la cánula por debajo de la piel”, advirtió.

Sin embargo, este procedimiento que

“Se trabajan los dos lados del cuerpo y si se va a quitar una cantidad de grasa de un lado del cuerpo, debe ser exactamente la misma cantidad del otro y se tiene que estar cuantificando”, detalló.

Expresó que el objetivo de esta cirugía no es cuánta grasa se retire, sino cómo se va a ver la que se va a quedar.

“Debe haber una capa de grasa por debajo de la piel para que se vea una superficie lisa sin evidencia de que se ha hecho un trabajo de liposucción”, mencionó.

Añadió que las liposucciones que se hacen en consultorios, siempre serán mal realizadas porque trabajan planos superficiales o sea por debajo de la piel y ése no es el plano adecuado, sino en donde se deje intacta una capa de grasa por debajo de la piel.

“Veámoslo como un pastel de cinco capas, la de arriba es la piel y las de abajo son la grasa, lo ideal es hacer el trabajo desde la capa de abajo y dejar la de arriba, la segunda y en algunas áreas la tercera capa y quitar las de abajo, así una vez que se realice el proceso de desinflamación podamos ver resultados y se vea una superficie uniforme”, detalló.

Mencionó que una lipoescultura es un procedimiento que, idealmente, debe realizarse solo una vez, aunque, dijo, es posible realizar una segunda o tercera, siempre y cuando se cuente con tejido graso que todavía se pueda trabajar apropiadamente.

Además, dijo que cada que se hace una cirugía se incrementan los riesgos de complicaciones.

NADA ES IGUAL

Comentó que en las zonas donde se extrajo grasa ya no se regenera, ya que la cantidad de células que están distribuidas en el abdomen disminuyen drásticamente después de una lipoescultura bien hecha.

Pero si el paciente sube de peso, las pocas células de grasa que quedan tienen la capacidad de hipertrofia, de hacerse más grandes.

“Si se sube de peso, el cuerpo se deforma, no es proporcional, teniendo casos como en el que los hombros se ven más anchos con respecto a una cintura pequeña”, precisó.

DESPUÉS

El procedimiento dura entre tres horas y tres y media o hasta cuatro y casi siempre es un procedimiento ambulatorio.

Precisó que durante las primeras semanas no es conveniente realizar ejercicio porque existe un proceso de inflamación en toda la superficie del cuerpo que puede generar mucha molestia e incomodidad al hacerlo.

A partir de la tercera semana se recomienda ejercicio leve e ir avanzando gradualmente de intensidad.

El resultado definitivo, dijo, se apreciará después del octavo o noveno mes, lo que quiere decir que durante 8 meses se lucirá similar a antes de la cirugía.

“También depende de la cantidad de grasa que se retiró y de cómo sea el cuerpo por dentro de cada persona, porque suele ser diferente en cuanto a las dimensiones, estructura ósea y muscular”, añadió.

Unos la asocian con el antiguo término inglés “dope”, que era como una pasta o grasa lubricante, aunque actualmente se utiliza como un genérico de droga que define el uso de sustancias o métodos prohibidos en el deporte.

Los atletas de alto rendimiento, beisbolistas, ciclistas, velocistas y futbolistas, entre otros, suelen emplear vitamínicos para mejorar su rendimiento.

Algunos recurren voluntariamente a sustancias ilegales (incluso biológicamente modificadas para evadir los controles antidopaje). Otros se mantienen en el límite, pero hay

quienes rebasan quizás por ignorancia los lineamientos de sus federaciones.

Un descuido como tomar un medicamento para la gripe puede provocarles que se pierdan un mundial o, incluso, sean sancionados de por vida.

Para ello los exámenes de laboratorio no sólo pueden ayudar a detectar materias prohibidas en la sangre, sino también a prevenir cualquier anormalidad en las moléculas y mejorar el control de los atletas.

Pero ¿en qué momento se puede saber si una persona tiene rastros de dopaje?

De acuerdo con Eloísa Quintanilla Cepeda, química farmacobióloga por la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT), eso se puede determinar cuando en un análisis el resultado de metabolitos se encuentra

fuera de los rangos normales.

Cuando así sucede, expresó, las pruebas de laboratorio más comunes que se emplean son el antidoping en sangre, orina, cabello y saliva.

EL PROCEDIMIENTO

De acuerdo con la especialista para realizarse exámenes de detección de drogas generalmente se pasa por el siguiente proceso: El deportista debe acudir a una sala en la que no tenga acceso a objetos personales ni agua, para evitar la posibilidad de diluir la muestra o utilizar la orina de otra persona.

Se entrega el recipiente donde depositará el contenido (se suele contar con un termómetro para garantizar que la muestra sea fresca). Después se llena un documento de registro con los datos del paciente y su firma en presencia del médico o laboratorista, para proceder a analizarla.

“Se obtienen resultados entre 5 a 10 minutos en el caso de antidoping en orina”, dijo Quintanilla Cepeda, quien manifestó que no hay posibilidades que las pruebas de laboratorio fallen.

No obstante, sí existen riesgos de alterar las muestras usando remedios caseros, otras sustancias o diluyéndolas.

Sobre la pregunta de cuánto tiempo debe pasar para que un atleta limpie su sangre de un dopaje la especialista señaló que algunas sustancias pueden eliminarse rápidamente mientras otras toman más tiempo, según cada organismo.

“La situación varía de una persona a otra.

Por ejemplo, en el caso del antidoping en orina pueden detectarse drogas después de su uso hasta 30 días en el caso de la marihuana; siete días en la cocaína, 48 horas en las anfetaminas, 51 horas en las metanfetaminas y tres días en las benzodiacepinas.

“En tanto que en el antidoping en cabello la memoria de la droga permanece hasta 90 días”, detalló.

Children and adults with recurrent sinusitis who do not respond to medical treatment may be candidates for laparoscopic surgery that, unlike the traditional one, is not painful and has a rapid recovery.

By Beatriz Flores The endoscopic sinus surgery revolutionized the surgical treatment of sinusitis.

Previously, the surgery was performed below the upper lip, where the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus was broken to clean the maxillary sinuses, called the Caldwell-Luc technique.

Subsequently, it was shown that paranasal sinus fluids have a ciliary movement, which is performed by cellular structures in the respiratory tract, which is directed towards the drainage area, an orifice that endoscopic surgery will expand to keep them clean.

The otolaryngologist José Luis Salinas González, revealed that open surgery in which the sinuses were broken never gave optimal results “It always gave medium or medium results. Anteriormente la cirugía se realizaba abajo del labio superior, donde se rompía o se quebraba la pared anterior del seno maxilar para limpiar los senos maxilares, llamada técnica de Caldwell-Luc. Explicó que la cirugía se hace a través de un endoscopio y no hay ninguna herida, se hace a través del orificio nasal con un lente, ya sea de cero o de 30 grados.

Se buscan los orificios naturales de drenaje de los cuatro senos paranasales de cada fosa nasal.

Comentó que el procedimiento permite eliminar pequeñas tumoraciones, pólipos y realizar una reducción de cornetes.

patología muy común en los senos paranasales que se llama concha bulosa y es la neumatización de uno de los cornetes.

Explicó la neumatización de la siguiente forma: “el cornete es una estructura ósea rígida sólida que está cubierta de mucosa y tiene la capacidad de un tejido eréctil, de crecer y expandirse para calentar y humedecer el aire que inspiramos, pero en ocasiones ese cornete óseo se empieza a neumatizar, a agarrar aire y a crecer y se hace como un globo dentro de una estructura ósea y puede llegar a crecer tanto que puede causar obstrucción del drenaje natural o una obstrucción de la fosa nasal”.

Mencionó que la cirugía endoscópica facilita en gran medida el tratamiento de la concha bulosa y facilitar el drenaje natural de mucosidad.

Otra de las indicaciones de la cirugía endoscópica es que exista una complicación asociada a una sinusitis.

Mencionó que la complicación más frecuente es que entre mucosidad, es decir, líquido espeso, amarillo o verdoso, característico de una infección, en este caso la sinusitis, a las proximidades del ojo, llamada celulitis orbitaria.

“Algo más peligroso es que se haga un absceso dentro del cerebro, que surja un absceso cerebral secundario a raíz de una sinusitis, se dice que un paciente que está complicado no debe esperarse a que responda un tratamiento médico, sino drenar los senos paranasales”, comentó.

CUANDO NO FUNCIONA EL TRATAMIENTO

El vicepresidente del Colegio de Otorrinos de Reynosa dijo que la cirugía endoscópica nasal está destinada solo para aquellos pacientes que no responden al tratamiento médico.

Añadió que la sinusitis puede clasificarse de diferentes formas.

Por el tiempo de evolución y puede ser aguda, cuando tiene una duración de menos de 15 días; subaguda, que es entre 16 días y seis semanas y una sinusitis crónica que va más allá de las seis semanas.

También se puede clasificar dependiendo del seno paranasal en donde se encuentre la sinusitis, por ejemplo: sinusitis maxilar, sinusitis frontal, sinusitis etmoidal y sinusitis frontoetmoidal.

Cuando están afectados todos los senos paranasales se llama pansinusitis.

El doctor dijo que si un paciente no mejora con un tratamiento médico formado por un antibiótico, un medicamento para disolver y eliminar el moco, uno para descongestionar, el realizar lavados nasales y un esteroide aplicado en la piel, se le hará una valoración para ver si es candidato para una cirugía endoscópica.

Dijo que siempre, antes de una cirugía endoscópica se debe realizar al paciente una tomografía computarizada de senos paranasales, ya que es el estudio de mayor información y es el mejor para ver trastornos de los senos .

PARA NIÑOS Y ADULTOS

El director médico del hospital Christus Muguerza Reynosa, dijo que la cirugía también está indicada en niños.

“El niño más pequeño que yo he operado es un niño de 4 años al cual se quitó un tejido polipoideo, se drenó un seno maxilar y se hizo una reducción de los cornetes”, mencionó.

Expresó que a través de la endoscopia se puede llegar al tejido adenoideo, un tejido linfoide que junto con la amígdala palatina, que son las anginas, pueden obstruir la nasofaringe o la orofaringe.

“Las adenoides las podemos abordar como tratamiento quirúrgico a través de la endoscopia también”, comentó.

RIESGOS

La duración del tratamiento quirúrgico dependerá del número de senos paranasales afectados.

“Si fuéramos a abordar un sólo seno paranasal el tratamiento quirúrgico es más corto que atender los ocho senos paranasales, si hay que resecar tejido como tejido polipoideo la cirugía puede durar desde 30 minutos hasta tres horas”, explicó.

Advirtió que el riesgo quirúrgico

más importante o más frecuente es el sangrado.

Otro de los riesgos es que se produzca una fístula de líquido cefaloraquídeo por trabajar tan cerca del techo de la nariz.

“Es el piso del cerebro y puede haber salida de líquido cerebral a través de él”, añadió.

También puede producirse una lesión o daño a la agudeza visual, pues el nervio oftálmico pasa tan cerca del seno esfenoidal que se puede dañar.

Aún así la cirugía endoscópica es un tratamiento muy efectivo de bajo riesgo, las complicaciones son raras, pero existen y hay que explicárselas a los pacientes, detalló el doctor.

“Tiene una recuperación muy pronta, un procedimiento endoscópico casi no duele a menos que haya además de la cirugía endoscópica, un tratamiento quirúrgico al tabique nasal donde haya que fracturar alguna lámina”, precisó.

RECOMENDACIONES

Salinas González comentó que después de la cirugía, en ocasiones se dejan algunas esponjas en las áreas a trabajar para evitar un sangrado posterior o férulas si se trabajó el séptum para mantenerlos en su sitio.

Añadió que se recomienda no hacer actividad física durante las siguientes seis semanas, no exponerse al sol, no levantar cosas pesadas, intentar comer cosas blandas y evitar el uso de analgésicos que puedan alargar el tiempo

de sangrado.

“Deben evitarse los AINES que son antiagregantes plaquetarios, por ejemplo aspirina que está prohibido tomarla 15 días o tres semanas previo a la cirugía”, mencionó.

El otorrinolaringólogo mencionó que decir que nunca más se presentará un episodio infeccioso sería muy aventurado.

“A un paciente que se le corrigen las alteraciones anatómicas ya no vuelve a tener un problema, pero si tiene un fondo alérgico y no se le da tratamiento puede volver a recaer”, dijo.

De igual manera, un paciente al que se le quite una poliposis, así se deje la nariz totalmente limpia, sin ningún pólipo pero este creció a través de un proceso alérgico, si se sigue exponiendo a lo que le causa alergia va a volver a crecer. Pero si estructuralmente este paciente se enfermaba del seno maxilar izquierdo porque el orificio de drenaje estaba obstruido y se drena, amplía y se rompe ya no se vuelve a enfermar de ese seno maxilar.

Advirtió que es muy importante que el tratamiento se realice con otorrinos que formen parte del colegio de la ciudad y que estén certificados por el Colegio de Otorrinolaringología a nivel nacional.

También que se realicen los procedimientos en hospitales que cuenten con todas las instalaciones, tanto como torre de endoscopía, endoscopios e instrumental quirúrgico adecuado.

facial paralysis?

Suffering from facial paralysis due to sudden changes in temperature is a coincidence, however, a simple flu or infection in the throat can trigger this condition.

By Pamela Escobar According to the neurosurgeon Gualberto Guzmán Torres, patients who suffer from facial paralysis and who attend a consultation, happen to have this problem after sudden changes in temperature, without this being a cause.

“Facial paralysis is understood as the loss of function, either of movement or sensation on one or both sides of the face. It is an autoimmune disease, if the patient is exposed to a virus, his defenses organizes antibodies against the virus, provoking it”, explained the doctor.

The specialist explained that the covers of the virus have proteins similar to those of the facial nerve and when the body begins to attack them, and when the nerve loses those covers it stops transmitting the nervous impulses and it is then that the paralysis appears.

On each side of our face there are two different nerves; one carries the sensitive information from that part of the facial surface to the brain, called trigeminally; the other is called facial nerve, is responsible for the function of movement from the brain stem, to each of the muscles of the face making mobility impossible.

“They are two different nerves, one carries sensitivity from our skin, our eyes and mouth to our brain and the other brings voluntary movement to that side of the face, we must distinguish the difference of facial paralysis depending on the nerve injury”, the doctor added.

He specified that the most frequent cases are to suffer motor nerve paralysis, where movement is lost and also occurs three to eight weeks after having suffered a viral infection.

“There are several viruses that can cause secondary paralysis, and what should be noted is not the infection itself, but how the body responds to it, such as gastroenteri-

tis, rhinitis, or a simple cold”, explained the neurosurgeon.

He also commented that proof of this is that up to 40 percent of people with facial paralysis previously suffered some type of infection, a history that is recorded after attending a regular the consultation.

“People associate it with changes in temperature or with an outburst of anger, but it is called coincidence, what it does have to do is exposure to cold or changes in temperature and injury (infection or virus in the body), that injury is going to exacerbate and can trigger paralysis”, explained the graduate of the University of Nuevo Leon.

MORE VULNERABLE SECTORS

The University of Baylor Postgraduate added that patients with diabetes are usually a very vulnerable sector to suffer from facial paralysis because being a metabolic disease is a cause and is also listed as the second most common cause of that condition.

¿Qué causa la

parálisis facial?

Sufrir de una parálisis facial debido a cambios bruscos de temperatura es una coincidencia, sin embargo, una simple gripa o infección en la garganta pueden desencadenar dicho padecimiento.

De acuerdo con el neurocirujano Gualberto Guzmán Torres, los pacientes que sufren de una parálisis facial y que asisten a consulta, casualmente presentan este problema luego de cambios bruscos de temperatura, sin que ello sea una causal.

“La parálisis facial se entiende como la pérdida de la función, ya sea de movimiento o sensibilidad en uno o ambos lados de la cara. Es un padecimiento auto inmune, si el paciente se expone a un virus, su organismo en plan de defensa fabrica anticuerpos contra el virus, provocándola”, explicó el médico.

El especialista detalló que las cubiertas del virus tienen proteínas similares a las del nervio facial y entonces su organismo comienza a atacarlas, de tal manera, que cuando el nervio pierde esas cubiertas deja de trasmitir los impulsos nerviosos y es entonces que se presenta la parálisis.

En cada lado de nuestra cara existen dos nervios diferentes; uno lleva la información sensitiva desde esa parte de la superficie facial hasta el cerebro, denominado trigémino; el otro se llama nervio facial, se encarga de la función del movimiento desde el tallo cerebral, hasta cada uno de los músculos del rostro imposibilitando la movilidad.

“Son dos nervios diferentes, uno lleva sensibilidad desde nuestra piel, nuestros ojos y boca hacia nuestro cerebro y el otro trae el movimiento voluntario a ese lado de la

cara, hay que distinguir la diferencia de parálisis facial dependiendo de la lesión en el nervio”, agregó el doctor.

Precisó que los casos más frecuentes es sufrir parálisis de un nervio motor, en donde se pierde el movimiento y que además se presenta de tres a ocho semanas después de haber sufrido una infección viral.

“Hay varios virus que pueden provocar la parálisis en forma secundaria, y que cabe señalar no es en sí la infección, sino cómo responde el organismo a ella, como por ejemplo una gastroenteritis, rinitis, o un simple resfriado”, detalló el neurocirujano.

Comentó además que prueba de ello es que hasta un 40 por ciento de las personas con parálisis facial sufrió previamente algún tipo de infección, antecedentes que se conocen al asistir a consulta.

“La gente lo asocia a cambios de temperatura o que hizo coraje, pero se le llama coincidencia, lo que si tiene que ver, es la exposición al frío o a cambios de temperatura y que se tenga una lesión (infección o virus en el organismo), esa lesión se va a exacerbar y puede desencadenar una parálisis”, explicó el egresado de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.

SECTORES MÁS VULNERABLES

lisis facial, pues al tratarse de una enfermedad metabólica es una causal y además está catalogada como la segunda causa más frecuente de ese padecimiento.

“Al elevarse la azúcar en la sangre, ésta se deposita en las paredes de los vasos más pequeños, que son los que llevan la circulación a la cubierta de los nervios dañándose en forma segmentaria y entonces produce una neuropatía diabética, les puede suceder a pacientes con gota, problemas renales, hepáticos o tiroideos ya que sufren también trastornos en la conducción nerviosa”, detalló el presidente del Colegio de Neurología y Neurocirugía de Tamaulipas.

LA RECUPERACIÓN Y SECUELAS

Guzmán Torres precisó que existen secuelas en la recuperación de los pacientes que han sufrido una parálisis facial; en el caso de un diabético nunca es completa y además puede volver a ocurrir de manera parcial o total; ya sea sobre el mismo nervio dañado si es que no se maneja bien la hiperglucemia.

“No se utiliza el mismo tratamiento para una paciente del sector vulnerable, un niño y el resto de la población; ya que ésto puede provocar secuelas aún más graves, permanentes o que no se logre una recuperación total”, advirtió el doctor.

Añadió que en los casos de una parálisis facial común, se manejan con un tratamiento de esteroides --cortisona en especí-

fico-- y un antiviral, para que el organismo deje de atacar a su propio cuerpo.

“Si el paciente no accede a un tratamiento, usualmente la parálisis dura tres semanas y posteriormente empieza a mejorar por sí sola la lesión, pero puede dejar secuelas, es decir una recuperación incompleta o regeneración nerviosa aferente”, mencionó el especialista.

Explicó que se le llama recuperación incompleta cuando no se recobra el movimiento facial por completo, dejando cierto grado de debilidad en el lado afectado del rostro.

Y a la regeneración nerviosa aferente se le denomina al nervio que sanó de manera irregular y anormal, que a su vez, provoca que el lado afectado de la cara tenga movimientos involuntarios o anormales.

DAÑO NEURONAL

De acuerdo con el especialista, el padecimiento por sí solo tiene características neurológicas y existe daño neuronal solo si la lesión fue causada por una embolia, un tumor en el cerebro o un infarto cerebral.

“Por ello se tiene que aprender a distinguir bien cada uno, porque se tratan de manera diferente. Usualmente se recomienda que sea un neurólogo el especialista que vea este tipo de problemas”, afirmó el médico.

Por José Manuel Meza Son nódulos de tipo benigno, causan malestar en algunos pacientes y reciben un tratamiento diferente, dependiendo del estado que presenten y se les llama hemangiomas.

“Hay de varios tipos, pero los más comunes son los que se presentan en bebés.

Se llaman hemangiomas ‘en fresa’”, informó expresó el Dr. Agapito Cepeda, experto dermatólogo.

Son tumores que empiezan desde el nacimiento y normalmente tienden a desaparecer. Permanecen de un año a dos. Después revientan, se laceran y desaparecen, añadió.

“Dejan una leve cicatriz y cuando hay que tratarlos es al encontrarse cerca de zonas vitales como los ojos, venas o algo que le moleste o duela al niño. Mientras tanto van desapareciendo por sí mismos”, comentó el director de Dermalaser Clinic.

Cepeda, egresado de la UANL y especializado en dermatología por el Centro Médico Nacional La Raza, de la Ciudad de México, detalló que algunos de los procedimientos que se emplean para atender los hemangiomas son las inyecciones de cortisona, tratamientos congelantes con hidrógeno líquido y rayos láser, aunque éstos se llevan a cabo cuando es estrictamente necesario.

“Al bebé normalmente no le duele ni le da comezón. Cuando revienta el hemangioma es cuando sí provocará una pequeña úlcera que es posible deje un poco de molestia.

“Por lo general les causa mucha preocupación a los padres, vienen todos angustiados. Lo que se encarga uno es de tranquilizarlos. Les presentamos el antes, después y cómo evolucionan solos y si son ‘en fresa’ ya no les vuelven a salir a lo largo de su vida”, explicó.

LAS VARIABLES

El segundo tipo de hemangioma que se observa es el “plano”, también conocido como la “mancha del vino Oporto”.

Se nace con él y se vive con él toda la vida. Y sí hay tratamientos.

“También se puede congelar, pero el más efectivo es el láser y sí lo logra quitar. Puede quedar una pequeña sombra donde estaba el hemangioma. Y también se presenta con frecuencia.

“El tercero, que se llama el hemangioma cavernoso es un poquito más agresivo, porque no está sobre la piel y llega a planos profundos. Si se llega a retirar normalmente deja una cicatriz. Como que la piel se cuelga y es necesario hacer una cirugía para retirar esas cicatrices. Normalmente deja una marca, una secuela”, ilustró Cepeda.

“Depende si está cerca de las vías respiratorias, de los ojos y la nariz, pero normalmente no son peligrosas, aunque a veces sí molestas y antiestéticas.

“En cuanto a tamaño los hemangiomas más grandes que hay pueden llegar a crecer hasta cinco centímetros de ancho, aunque el promedio es de uno a dos centímetros”, dijo.

Este especialista, quien mencionó que atiende en promedio un caso de hemangiomas cada mes, hizo énfasis en que ésta es una enfermedad indistinta en niños o niñas.

En otras palabras es una anomalía genética en la que se presenta una mutación, por lo cual los vasos sanguíneos empiezan a crecer más de lo normal.

En caso de presentarse hemangiomas, remarcó, se debe acudir con un dermatólogo, que es el especialista encargado de manejarlos.

“Hay tratamientos en los que participan otras disciplinas, como cardiólogos y pediatras, cuando es necesario la suministración de diferentes medicamentos”, agregó.

trabismus occurs when the eyes are not aligned correctly and point in different directions, one eye can look forward and the other one point out, up or down and this misalignment can alternate between one eye and the other.

Estrabismo en el adulto

l estrabismo se produce cuando los ojos no están alineados correctamente y apuntan en distintas direcciones, el ojo puede mirar hacia adelante y el otro ojo apuntar hacia afuera, hacia arriba o hacia abajo y esta desalineación puede alternar entre un ojo y otro.

El estrabismo afecta la visión porque para ver adecuadamente ambos ojos deben apuntar el mismo lugar.

¿QUÉ CAUSA EL ESTRABISMO?

Para poder alinear y enfocar ambos ojos en un objeto, todos los músculos de ambos ojos deben estar equilibrados y funcionar de manera conjunta. Alcohol: Lethal enemy

The consumption of alcoholic beverages is a factor that causes more than 200 diseases and medical disorders, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Alcohol: enemigo letal

El consumo de bebidas embriagantes es un factor que origina más de 200 enfermedades y trastornos médicos, de acuerdo con la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).

e sabe que el alcoholismo es dañino para el organismo, pero para conocer más a detalle los efectos clínicos y cuáles son los órganos más perjudicados, la doctora Varina Arias, médico general por la Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), lo explica: “Las bebidas que contienen este líquido pueden afectar al organismo por los químicos que llevan y también porque normalmente no se consumen en cantidades moderadas.

Los adultos y los jóvenes son los principales grupos que abusan de ellas”, mencionó.

La entrevistada dijo que el principal órgano que recibe los efectos del alcohol es el estómago, porque es el primero que lo absorbe.

En segundo lugar el hígado, donde se metabolizan las comidas y bebidas que se ingieren.

Posteriormente los riñones, ya que son tejidos que depuran las toxinas del alcohol y ya en fases más avanzadas las personas que lo ingieren pueden llegar a sufrir daños cerebrales, alertó.

LAS ESTADÍSTICAS HABLAN

Aunque existe suficiente información y campañas para advertir del abuso de las bebidas embriagantes, éstas matan a 3.3 millones de personas cada año, según cifras de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU).

Una de cada 20 personas en el mundo fallece por las enfermedades vinculadas al alcohol, esto sin considerar los accidentes de tránsito y más tipos de defunciones, producto de alguna intoxicación etílica.

En ese contexto la doctora Arias subrayó que su consumo provoca adicción y cuando una persona la sufre, en su desesperación, puede llegar a tomar incluso bebidas adulteradas.

“Y no nada más eso, el huachicol, alcohol etílico, productos de limpieza, porque estos tienen una gran cantidad de alcohol y el cuerpo se hace dependiente de esa sustancia”, señaló.

Arias especificó que la cirrosis que es dañina del hígado también puede derivarse del alcoholismo, causando la degeneración del hígado.

LA PRESIÓN SOCIAL

Para que la gente lo entienda más concretamente cuando el alcohol ingresa al organismo lo primero que empieza a producirse es una absorción a nivel de estómago y hepática.

“Posteriormente afecta el torrente sanguíneo y empieza a producir un estado como de relajación al sistema nervioso que, no obstante, también genera estragos”, agregó.

Si bien se recomienda una copa de vino tinto una vez al día, por los nutrientes que aporta al organismo, la doctora

Arias pidió la moderación.

“Y no nada más son las bebidas las que nos están afectando, sino también el cigarro y las drogas, porque una vez empezando en el alcohol, los amigos y la sociedad a veces te demandan que debes consumir esto para poder entrar a un círculo social y más en los jóvenes, así que debemos tener cuidado y proteger nuestro organismo”, recomendó.

De acuerdo con diversos estudios el consumo de alcohol en el mundo sigue creciendo y es encabezado en un 34.8 por ciento por la cerveza y en un 8 por ciento en vino.

Brachioplasty eliminates

“Generally people who suffer from obesity and who lost a lot of weight become brachioplasty candidates ... but then come back because they want us to remove more skin”, he said.

La braquioplastia elimina las

‘alas de murciélago’

Deshacerse de la piel que cuelga en los brazos luego de un súbito descenso de peso, es algo que sólo puede hacerse en el quirófano con especialistas calificados.

En la cirugía plástica existen diversos procedimientos para estilizar la figura, cada uno se realiza en diversas partes del cuerpo y en las extremidades superiores se puede acceder a la braquioplastia, para reducir el volumen de los brazos.

De acuerdo con el cirujano plástico Carlos Ontiveros Garza, dicho procedimiento consiste en eliminar el exceso de piel que se forma luego de una drástica reducción de peso; es decir, retirar la piel que cuelga y quitar la grasa ahí acumulada.

“Es una lipectomia del brazo. Se realiza el mismo procedimiento que si fuera una lipectomia abdominal, pero en el brazo, para eliminar la flacidez y el exceso de grasa en la cara interna de dichos miembros”, detalló el egresado de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.

El también integrante de la Asociación Mexicana de Cirugía Plástica Estética y Reconstructiva detalló que se hace un corte de piel en el paciente y se deja la cicatriz lo más escondida posible, para que no se vea.

“En la técnica tradicional se hace un corte en línea recta desde la epitróquea (el codo) hasta la axila en la parte interna del brazo, técnica que se ha ido modificando porque los pacientes no quieren que sea visible”, explicó el cirujano.

Agregó que actualmente se realiza el corte en la parte posterior del brazo, de tal manera, que dejan la cicatriz menos visible para el paciente y queda más satisfecho con el resultado.

EL PROCEDIMIENTO Y SU RECUPERACIÓN

El integrante de la Sociedad Internacional de Cirugía Estética, explicó que es un procedimiento muy accesible y sencillo con du-

ración de alrededor de dos horas y se realiza mediante una anestesia local, más sedación. La única desventaja que tiene es la cicatriz y por ello han modificado la técnica utilizada.

“Generalmente el paciente ideal para una braquioplastia es quien se operó previamente de manga o bypass gástrico y por ello bajó mucho de peso. A esas personas se les cuelga la piel de los brazos, vienen y lo mencionan como ‘alas de murciélago’, comentó.

Ontiveros Garza añadió que esa piel sobrante no se retrae o pega al cuerpo, aunque se haga ejercicio físico y precisó que las personas que tienen un brazo delgado o ligeramente gordito, adelgazan los miembros superiores con liposucción y no necesitan braquioplastia.

El médico comentó que la recuperación de esta cirugía es de 10

días, cuando ya están totalmente cicatrizadas las heridas e incluso que los pacientes salen del hospital con un vendaje especial, los cuidados posteriores sólo son curaciones diarias que se realizan en casa.

“La única función de la braquioplastia es que la paciente luzca ropa sin mangas y se vea estético, y pueden usar ropa normal. No es solo un corte de piel, es retirar el exceso de ella que tenemos en el brazo, así como la grasa”, dijo.

DESVENTAJAS

Ontiveros Garza advirtió que la única desventaja que tiene la braquioplastia son las cicatrices que quedan en los brazos.

Para los pacientes con diabetes e hipertensión, precisó, si tienen dichos padecimientos controlados, sí pueden acceder a ella.

“Habitualmente, quienes se han operado de cirugía bariátrica son

pacientes diabéticos e hipertensos y tras ese procedimiento se encuentran controladas sus enfermedades, por lo que es más fácil que sean candidatos para la braquioplastia”, detalló el especialista.

Agregó que en la actualidad hay parches y cremas que son recetados a los pacientes y que si se usan de la manera establecida, obtendrán un mejor resultado en el desvanecimiento de la

cicatriz, misma que va a quedar de por vida.

“Generalmente la gente que padece obesidad y que bajó mucho de peso, se hace la braquioplastia... pero después vuelven a venir porque quieren que les quitemos más piel”, dijo.

De tal manera que dicho procedimiento puede realizarse más de una vez, porque en el caso de los pacientes bariátricos pudieran bajar más de peso y se hace un retoque sobre la misma cicatriz.

“Lo ideal es hacerlo una sola vez, porque entre más se corte en el mismo sitio, podemos hacer que la cicatriz se vea más fea, y ya por sí sola, la cicatriz es una desventaja”, afirmó el médico.

Advirtió que aunque es una cirugía por medio de anestesia local con sedación, ésta se debe hacer en un hospital, así como realizada por un cirujano plástico que son quienes saben hacer dicho procedimiento.

“Hay que tener mucho cuidado con quién nos operamos, porque hay gente que se atreve a hacerlo; como por ejemplo, médicos de otras especialidades y no lo saben hacer y es entonces donde pueden quedar peor. Ya que no sólo es quitar piel y grasa, sino dejar una cicatriz lo mejor y disimuladamente posible y eso sólo los cirujanos plásticos estéticos y reconstructivos lo pueden hacer”, precisó Ontiveros Garza.

Añadió que incluso al mismo tiempo que se realiza una braquioplastia, se puede hacer una toracobracoplastia. Por ejemplo, una persona que bajó 100 kilos, se le cuelga la piel desde el tórax hasta el brazo y es toda esa parte la que se retira en este último procedimiento.

El gobierno de Reynosa invirtió 83 millones de pesos en maquinaria y equipo para los bomberos.

La mayor inversión en maquinaria y equipo hecha por una administración municipal fue entregada a la ciudad por la primera autoridad del municipio, Maki Ortiz.

La presidente municipal de Reynosa, la primera mujer que gobierna la ciudad en casi 269 años y cerca de un millón de habitantes manifestó a sus ciudadanos: “Nos merecemos tener una ciudad digna”, “estoy segura que trabajando como lo estamos haciendo, echándole siempre ganas y trabajando con transparencia y buen gobierno vamos a pasar de esas cosas básicas, que para nosotros son las pavimentaciones, el drenaje, el alumbrado, el equipo, a ir avanzando a ser la ciudad que debemos ser, una de las mejores ciudades de este país”.

Por primera vez un gobierno municipal invierte 83 millones de pesos en maquinaria y equipos nuevos; por primera vez un bombero de Reynosa cuida su vida con un traje protector nuevo, uno de los 40 equipos, que les devuelve la dignidad y el orgullo de dar lo mejor para salvar la propiedad y la vida de los reynosenses.

La alcaldesa entregó a sus ciudadanos, un camión de bomberos doble cabina, de 310 caballos de fuerza, nuevo, con capacidad de 5 mil litros de agua y 200 litros para espuma y equipamiento general, 10 camionetas y 10 carros patrulla.

El nuevo equipo municipal también lo integran, una lancha de rescate acuático, una unidad doble cabina todoterreno 4x4; una unidad de rescate y extinción de incendios con equipamiento general, una ambulancia equipada, dos unidades VAC-CON de 12 y 15 metros

cúbicos, para desazolve del drenaje, completando un total de tres.

También dos unidades con canastilla telescópica a 13 metros, una barredora, una camioneta equipada con pintarayas, una trituradora de llantas, un set de rescate urbano, ‘Quijadas de la Vida’ y mangueras contraincendio de 15 metros.

El histórico evento que patentizó la buena voluntad y la administración transparente de los recursos de los ciudadanos contó con la presencia del director del DIF, Carlos Víctor Peña Ortiz; el coronel Luis Andrés Gutiérrez Garnica, de la Octava Zona Militar; Ismael Ledezma, jefe de la Estación Reynosa de la Policía Federal; Jorge A. Key points about gastric or duodenal ulcer

A

gastric ulcer is a lesion in the lining of the stomach or intestine, caused by acid that penetrates beyond the surface of the mucous and affects even the deep muscle layers.

na úlcera gástrica es una lesión en la mucosa del estómago o del intestino, ocasionada por el ácido que penetra más allá de la superficie de la mucosa y afecta hasta las capas musculares profundas.

Dependiendo del lugar dónde se localice, toma su nombre, úlcera gástrica (estómago) o úlcera duodenal (localizada en la primera porción del intestino delgado). Es posible presentar al mismo tiempo más de una úlcera en diferentes sitios.

Los síntomas más frecuentes son ardor o sensación de estómago vacío y la presentación es: * Síntomas 2-3 horas después de haber ingerido alimento. * Es ocasional, presentándose durante días o semanas alternando con períodos sin molestias * Se presenta en medio de la noche cuando el estómago se encuentra vacío * Usualmente se retira después de comer Algunos síntomas vagos son : * Pérdida de peso * Hambre dolorosa * Náusea y vómito Las úlceras pépticas son causadas por: * Una bacteria llamada Helicobacter Pylori * Antiinflamatorios no esteroideos (medicamento para el dolor) * Estrés * Otros (edad, enfermedades agregadas, diabetes, etc.)

El estrés o la comida condimentada no causa la úlcera péptica pero sí provocan que los síntomas se empeoren, así como el consumir bebidas alcohólicas o fumar.

Los síntomas cuando las úlceras no se tratan o se complican son: * Dolor abdominal intenso que no desaparece. * Vómito con sangre fresca u oscuro como granos de café. * Heces fecales negras o con sangre roja.

Esto se presenta debido a: * La úlcera ha causado que el alimento no pase del estómago al intestino. * La úlcera ha perforado un vaso sanguíneo. * La úlcera es más profunda, se ha perforado la pared del estómago o del intestino delgado.

El diagnóstico es hecho mediante una endoscopia digestiva. En este procedimiento se introduce vía oral un endoscopio delgado, flexible, que posee en la punta una cámara que permite observar claramente por dentro del tubo digestivo, en este caso esófago, estómago e intestino delgado. Durante el procedimiento se administran medicamentos para relajar al paciente. Cuando es necesario se toman biopsias que son muestras de tejido, las cuales se observan al microscopio para detallar más el daño en la mucosa del área afectada.

Cuando la o las úlceras ocasionan sangrado, el paciente presenta sangrado por vómitos o por las evacuaciones, es posible por medio de la endoscopia digestiva, lograr detener el sangrado, aplicando medicamentos directamente, disminuyendo así la necesidad de transfusiones de sangre así como los días de estancia en el hospital, mejorando su salud en un periodo más corto de tiempo.

Las úlceras toman tiempo en sanar. Si usted está tomando medicamentos para dolor es importante suspenderlos, así también como dejar de fumar, ya que no permite una buena evolución.

En muchos casos, los medicamentos curan completamente el daño, pero usted necesitará cirugía si: * No hay evolución favorable * Si se perfora el estómago o duodeno La buena noticia es que no hay necesidad de correr un riesgo mayor si usted se atiende a tiempo. More dangerous than its look like

It is the second cause of maternal death in the world and the first in Mexico; the prevention talks have reduced death rates by almost half in more than a decade.

By Pamela Escobar Eclampsia is when the patient who had preeclampsia develops into seizures, causing brain, liver or kidney damage.

In Mexico, in 2017 there were 23 maternal deaths due to preeclampsia, which is the main cause of maternal death in the country.

Figures that, in spite of being high, have been decreasing thanks to the prevention, because in the year 2000 more than 600 thousand deaths were counted in the world and now more than half have been registered, thanks to the attention of the services of health in rural areas.

Preeclampsia is a complication that occurs during and because of pregnancy and according to Dr. José Mauro Garza Solís usually manifests with high blood pressure with symptoms such as a headache, blurred vision and ringing in the ears, without there being a cause for it.

“It is asymptomatic, but it is classified as mild and severe high blood pressure, in the case of the first the main symptoms are high blood pressure, proteinuria (loss of protein in the urine) and edema (swelling in the feet, hands, and face)”, said the obstetrician.

He added that mild preeclampsia occurs in ranges of 90/140 in blood pressure, while severe manages figures of 100/150 up. In the case of the first one, it can be managed through a medication treatment to control the pressure and achieve a full term pregnancy.

“But when preeclampsia is severe or becomes eclampsia, an induced abortion is im-

minent, regardless of the baby’s gestational age”, he warned.

He added that the cause of preeclampsia is unknown, although he said that apparently, it is a problem of the placenta, where the blood vessels are damaged and that in turn begins to produce substances that raise blood pressure.

“The affectation that can be suffered is multifactorial, in the woman it can damage all the organs, the kidney, the liver, the heart, the brain and reach death; and in the minor there may be a restriction in the intrauterine growth, for that reason they usually are born very small and of low weight, and often they are premature, in addition, they can be born with pulmonary edema, renal insufficiency or cerebral spill”, explained Garza Solís.

TIME PREVENTION AND RECOVERY

Es la segunda causa de muerte materna en el mundo y la primera en México; las pláticas de prevención han reducido las cifras de decesos casi a la mitad en más de una década.

Por Pamela Escobar La eclampsia es cuando la paciente que tenía preeclampsia evoluciona hasta presentar crisis convulsivas, causando daño cerebral, en el hígado o riñón.

En México durante 2017 se contabilizaron 23 muertes por preeclampsia que es la principal causa de muerte materna en el país.

Cifras que, a pesar de ser elevadas, han ido disminuyendo gracias a la prevención, pues el año 2000 se contabilizaron más de 600 mil decesos en el mundo y actualmente se han registrado poco más de la mitad, gracias a la atención de los servicios de salud en zonas rurales.

La preeclampsia es una complicación que se presenta durante y a causa del embarazo y de acuerdo con el doctor José Mauro Garza Solís generalmente se manifiesta con alta presión arterial y síntomas como dolor de cabeza, visión borrosa y zumbido de oídos, sin que haya una causal para ello.

“Es asintomática, pero se clasifica en presión alta leve y severa, en el caso de la primera los síntomas capitales son la presión alta, proteinuria (pérdida de proteína por la orina) y edema (hinchazón en pies, manos y cara)”, detalló el ginecobstetra.

Agregó que la preeclampsia leve se presenta en rangos de 90/140 en la presión arterial, mientras que la severa maneja cifras de 100/150 hacia arriba. En el caso de la primera se puede manejar mediante un tratamiento con medicamentos para controlar la presión y lograr un embarazo a término.

“Pero cuando la preeclampsia es severa o se convierte en eclampsia es inminente un aborto inducido a la paciente, independientemente de la edad de gestación del bebé”, advirtió el especialista.

Añadió que se desconoce la causa que provoca la preeclampsia, aunque dijo que aparentemente es un problema de la placenta, en donde se dañan los vasos sanguíneos y eso a su vez empieza a producir sustancias que elevan la presión arterial.

“La afectación que se puede sufrir es multifactorial, en la mujer puede dañar

todos los órganos, el riñón, el hígado corazón, cerebro y llegar hasta la muerte; y en el menor puede haber una restricción en el crecimiento intrauterino, por ello suelen nacer muy pequeños y de bajo peso, y muchas veces son prematuros, además pueden nacer con edema pulmonar, insuficiencia renal o derrame cerebral”, explicó Garza Solís.

PREVENCIÓN A TIEMPO Y RECUPERACIÓN

Para su prevención el médico precisó que principalmente deben llevar su control prenatal adecuado, pues la preeclampsia se presenta la mayoría de las veces en mujeres que no asistieron a una vigilancia médica durante la gestación.

“La mujer tiene la obligación de asistir a consulta una vez al mes, luego cada 15 días, hasta llegar a una vez por semana. La intención es detectar este tipo de problemas a tiempo, ya que es un padecimiento muy riesgoso de no notarlo”, expresó Garza Solís.

Agregó que actualmente se lleva a cabo una prevención antes del embara-

zo entre las medidas a seguir se incluye que las pacientes consuman hierro y ácido fólico, así como impartirles pláticas sobre planificación familiar donde se les informa sobre los riesgos durante el embarazo.

Comentó que si la madre ya padece hipertensión no necesariamente sufrirá de preeclampsia, sólo se le clasifica como enfermedad hipertensiva asociada al embarazo, y si ella cuenta con su tratamiento, solo se cambia el tipo de medicamento durante la gestación.

Explicó además que los fármacos que se recetan son hipertensivos en caso de la presión alta, así como reposo y abundantes líquidos, dependiendo lo grave de la preeclampsia. En caso de ser severa se tiene que mantener internada a la paciente para su observación.

“La prevención es fundamental para lograr su detección a tiempo. El paciente debe contar con una buena atención antes del embarazo y durante el embarazo.

El sistema de salud público en México da muy buenas orientaciones y pláticas, así como la Secretaría de Salud”, infor-

mó el integrante del Colegio de Ginecología y Obstetricia de Reynosa.

Comentó que al llegar el alumbramiento se va resolviendo el padecimiento, ya que en algunas ocasiones la preeclampsia puede no darse durante el embarazo y se puede padecer en el puerperio (tiempo de recuperación después del nacimiento), sin embargo, después de pasadas las 6 semanas de éste, se considera una persona hipertensa, si se mantienen lo altos niveles de presión arterial.

GRUPOS VULNERABLES

El ginecólogo mencionó que las personas diabéticas e hipertensas, pacientes con lupus y artritis reumatoide, así como quienes padecen obesidad son las más propensas a padecer la preeclampsia, incluyendo a las madres menores de 15 años o que se embarazan por primera vez después de los 35.

“Si lo padeció en su primer embarazo, en los posteriores tiene el doble de posibilidades de volver a sufrirla, por ello a todas las futuras madres se les recomienda que tengan actividad física, buena alimentación y sobre todo esto último, para evitar que la padezcan”, advirtió el entrevistado.

Atendiendo el programa de mantenimiento y haciendo efectivos los reportes hechos por los usuarios al Centro Integral de Atención Ciudadana, la Comisión Municipal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado del municipio (Comapa) de Reynosa, efectuó labores de desazolve en distintas colonias, entre ellas la Marte R. Gómez, Pedro José Méndez y Lampasitos.

Además del trabajo de desazolve que busca abatir la problemática de la red sanitaria, se realizan trabajos preventivos y por ello una cuadrilla de trabajadores de la Comapa efectuó la reparación de un brocal en la calle Patricia y Don Elías, en el Fraccionamiento Reynosa, para evitar hundimiento y daños al pozo de visita.

La colonia Pedro José Méndez también fue atendida por las cuadrillas de la Coordinación de Drenaje Sanitario de la Comapa, que realizaron la limpieza del colector de la calle Pedro Hugo González y Calle 18 y sondeo y aspiración de la tubería sanitaria en Pedro Hugo González y Calle 17.

El gobierno municipal y la Comapa de Reynosa hacen un llamado a la población a evitar arrojar basura en la vía pública y a mantener limpios sus patios para que el viento y la lluvia no trasladen desechos sólidos a las alcantarillas y causen obstrucción y daños al drenaje sanitario.

It has more than

and its still standing For 65 years this Mexican town has managed to remain as one destinations on the border that most tourists visit.

He said that initially the drinking water and electricity were supplied from the United States.

As the years passed, this border site grew, with the emergence of a greater number of economic activities, to the extent of becoming today the so-called “medical tourism capital of Mexico” with the largest number of dentists per square meter in the country.

For the last 17 years had counted with a modern international crossing with access for disabled people, safety for the traveler and practically the majority of basic services for a town of this nature.

By José Manuel Meza Nuevo Progreso, Tam. It has no beaches, forests, lakes or mountains, nor a large territorial extension, but Benito Juárez Avenue in Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas, had the most valuable square meter in Mexico.

It is a place that according to the last population census had 10 thousand inhabitants; however, suffice it to say that in a kilometer you have a concentration of prestigious medical specialty clinics, craft shops and international restaurants that have kept it standing for the last six decades.

Located next to the Rio Grande, Nuevo Progreso joins Progreso Lakes, Texas, with the Las Flores International Bridge, one of the busiest pedestrian crossings between Mexico and the United States.

The tourists, mostly Winter Texans, who come from the northern regions of the continent to spend a less cold season, have among their rituals of activities to cross the border to make some purchases, enjoy with friends and even attend to some health problem such as dentition or sight.

The vast majority park their vehicles on the US side making a single payment of 2 dollars (about 38 Mexican pesos), although some others go to Mexico driving.

Nuevo Progreso is a point between these two great nations that hardly appears on the geographical map, however, it has practically everything that tourists need to relax, acquire food, medicines and taste the gastronomy.

A BLOOMING COMMUNITY

According to Dr. Leopoldo Hernández, municipal sub-delegate and local coordinator of public officials, the origin as a tourist area of Nuevo Progreso -which will celebrate its 65th anniversary in September- took place when the Rio Grande floods used to damage the now ghost town of Rio Rico, located seven kilometers away.

“They freely visit the crafts without any authority bothering them”, said Hernández, who graduated as a doctor from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) and later settled in the region.

“Of all the border strip of our Mexico Nuevo Progreso is the only one that is characterized as a unique town.

We have security, restaurants of international food, crafts from all parts of the Republic, liquor stores, beauty shops.

“Here on foot, they find everything they are looking for”, assured the municipal subdelegate.

Renai Lynch is an American from Birmingham, Alabama, who lives in Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas, where she says she feels happy because of the human warmth she found here.

For more than a year she decided to renounce the comforts of her nation, downplaying many of the benefits of being a citizen of the United States.

At the same time she moved away from the cares in which many of his compatriots are occupied: a house, clothes and a new car. The important thing for her was to find her inner peace after having a disintegrated home.

When looking for that tranquility came to a small town on the Mexican border with Texas called Nuevo Progreso and her life took a positive turn, despite not having the same dollars in the bag that obtained with her previous job, more than necessary to subsist .

Al mismo tiempo se alejó de los afanes en los que se ocupan muchos de sus compatriotas: una casa, ropa y un auto nuevo. Lo importante para ella era encontrar su paz interior después de tener un hogar desintegrado.

Al buscar esa tranquilidad llegó a un pequeño pueblo en la frontera mexicana con Texas llamado Nuevo Progreso y su vida dio un giro positivo, a pesar de no tener los mismos dólares en la bolsa que obtenía con su empleo anterior, más que lo necesario para subsistir.

Renai Lynch es creyente de que la felicidad proviene más de una vida simple, sin tantas presiones, por lo cual aseguró que este sitio le gustó y aquí hizo nuevos amigos.

“Siempre encuentras alguien que te saluda con una sonrisa”, mencionó.

Pero no se fue tan lejos de su Patria, solamente a unos pasos de la Unión Americana, ya que actualmente se dedica a la repartición de folletería en los accesos del puente internacional Las Flores, el cual cruza por encima del río Bravo.

“Es muy satisfactorio sentirte útil y saber que estás poniendo un granito de arena para ayudar a los demás”, mencionó.

Esta mujer confesó que aún no sabe cuánto tiempo más se quedará en la frontera.

De hecho paga la renta de un pequeño departamento con los servicios básicos, pero aseguró que cada día amanece en paz y disfruta de la atmósfera pueblerina de Nuevo Progreso.

“La gente es muy amable aquí, me siento contenta. Me gusta México, las personas son muy amigables; es rica su comida y me agrada su cultura”, destacó.

Además, detalló que el cambio no fue tan brusco ni se siente aislada, porque con tantos americanos paseando todos los días por este lugar y hablando su idioma es como si estuviera en su propio país.

Renai es uno de los coloridos rostros de Nuevo Progreso. Con su constancia y simpatía se ha ganado el respeto de los vendedores ambulantes y comerciantes de este lugar, que la han adoptado como uno más de ellos e incluso, le piden que entregue algunos de sus folletos a cambio de una comisión.

“La güera”, como algunos le llaman, disfruta esta etapa de su vida en suelo mexicano, al cual llegó un día como turista y ahora se considera parte de este pequeño pueblo que une a México con Estados Unidos.

Fundación Mabel delivers scholarships entrega becas In Nuevo Progreso

For the education of hundreds of low-income Mexican students, this non-governmental organization provided the support obtained from philanthropists from Canada and the United States who visited the region.

La también presidenta del clúster de Turismo Médico agradeció a todas las personas que de manera pública o anónima hicieron llegar su ayuda para que a su vez la fundación Mabel realizara la distribución de 362 becas en el auditorio municipal, donde se congregaron más de un centenar de personas.

Dijo que este apoyo será de gran ayuda para las familias que no pueden costearle a sus hijos los pagos de colegiaturas en secundaria, preparatoria y universidad.

A lo largo de 16 años que tiene al frente de la fundación, García de González está continuando el legado que dejó su fundadora Mabel Clare Prowdley, una persona altruista del estado estadounidense de Colorado,

que trajo muchos beneficios para la región.

“Ella comenzó a ayudar a los estudiantes y a la fecha tenemos cientos de jóvenes becados, universitarios, en la preparatoria y secundaria.

“Además existen grupos de americanos que construyen casitas para las personas que no tienen”, destacó.

Esta organización tiene también una clínica gratuita que desde hace más de 20 años ayuda a pacientes sin recursos.

NANCIYAGA Place of gods

This natural reserve located in the central part of Veracruz, in the region of Los Tuxtlas, preserves the magic and beauty of past centuries.

STAFF DOCTORS Nanciyaga is the equivalent of a Disney-themed park, as well as a hotel and bakery with excellent cinnamon rolls.

The natural reserve, six kilometers north of the city of Catemaco, Veracruz, is the most visited private attraction in Los Tuxtlas.

It was the scene of two international films: One of them was shot by Sean Connery in 1992 called “Medicine Man”, (The Healer) and “Apocalypto” by Mel Gibson, in 2006.

The entrance includes obligatory unpaid guides that depend on tips.

The most popular access is through a boat ride from the city of Catemaco.

The park occupies an isolated, highly wooded, four-hectare ridge, around a mineral spring and a small lake. Unfortunately, the roads are not suitable for people with physical disabilities.

The facilities include a boat dock, a canoe harbor, 11 cabins, a two-storey restaurant, gift shops, a suspension bridge, common baths, a planetarium, the Shaman Center (witcher’s office), the Cemeli Center (massages and masks), a pool of mineral water, the cages of wild animals, a small meeting center, the temazcal, a crocodiles pin and turtles and a pottery workshop, located in the city of Catemaco.

The whole construction is designed to integrate with the environment, mostly through the use of native products.

The jungle trails present many more simulations of ancient Olmec art, including goddesses, fantasy animals, and chaneques, in which the local population continues to believe. Nanciyaga is a paradise for bird watchers such as loons, cormorants, gray-tailed blackbirds and a variety of herons.

Crocodiles swim freely in the surrounding lagoon, and an lizard exhibit fascinates visitors.

Esta reserva natural situada en la parte central de Veracruz, en la región de Los Tuxtlas conserva la magia y la belleza de siglos pasados.

Nanciyaga es el equivalente de un parque temático estilo Disney, además de un hotel y una panadería de excelentes roles de canela.

La reserva natural, seis kilómetros al norte de la ciudad de Catemaco, Veracruz, es la atracción privada más visitada de Los Tuxtlas.

Fue escenario de dos cintas internacionales: Una de ellas fue rodada por Sean Connery en 1992 llamada “Medicine Man”, (El Curandero) y “Apocalypto” que realizara Mel Gibson, en 2006.

La entrada incluye guías obligatorios no remunerados que dependen de las propinas. El acceso más popular es a través de un paseo en lancha desde la ciudad de Catemaco.

El parque ocupa una aislada cresta elevada, muy boscosa de cuatro hectáreas, alrededor de un manantial mineral y un pequeño lago. Lamentablemente los caminos no son adecuados para personas con alguna discapacidad física.

Las instalaciones cuentan con un muelle para lanchas, un puerto canoa, 11 cabañas, restaurante de dos plantas, tiendas de regalos, un puente colgante, baños comunes, un planetario, el Centro Chamán (consulta de brujo), el Centro Cemeli (masajes y máscaras), una poza de agua mineral, las jaulas de animales silvestres, un pequeño centro de reuniones, el temazcal, corral de cocodrilos y tortugas y un taller de alfarería, éste situado en la ciudad de Catemaco.

Toda la construcción está diseñada para integrarse con el medio ambiente mediante el uso de los productos en su mayoría naturales.

Los senderos de la selva presentan muchas más simulaciones de arte olmeca antiguo, incluyendo diosas, anima-

les de fantasía y chaneques, en el que la población local sigue creyendo. Nanciyaga es un paraíso para observadores de aves como somormujos, cormoranes, mirlos de cola gris y una variedad de garzas.

Los cocodrilos nadan libremente en la laguna circundante, y un iguanario fascina a los visitantes.

El hotel consta de 11 cabañas con capacidad máxima de 32 personas. Cinco son de tamaño familiar para cuatro personas.

Las consultas con los brujos se pueden agendar.

Los positivo: Simplemente un alojamiento único con una mezcla maravillosa de los ecosistemas y de lujo.

Lo negativo: puede ser demasiado rústica y falto de comodidades para algunos.

La palabra Nanciyaga se deriva de la lengua náhuatl y significa “al final de los árboles de nanche”. Otra historia cuenta que una princesa acostumbraba a cruzar de una isla vecinal hasta el arroyo y aprovechar el lodo del nacimiento para embellecerse.

Cualquiera que sea el origen del nombre, es un paraíso natural, propicio para amantes de la aventura y la naturaleza.

En el informe se mencionó que los niños de entre dos y cinco años lideran esta tendencia, siendo los niños hispanos y afroamericanos los que la presentan en mayor medida, por encima de blancos y asiáticos.

El secreto para reducir la presión arterial no es tanto limitar la ingesta de sal, sino la de los alimentos precocinados y envasados por sus altos contenidos de magnesio, sodio y potasio.

Cuando a alguien le dicen que tiene la presión arterial demasiado alta o que debe bajar kilos, más de una vez mira con recelo al salero, confiando en que eliminar la sal de la dieta se convertirá en la solución.

Error. “Estudios recientes de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Boston en Estados Unidos indican que una dieta baja en sodio ni es tan beneficiosa para nuestra salud ni ayuda a disminuir la presión arterial.

La clave está en la ingesta de sodio, potasio y magnesio.

Entre las personas que participaron en el estudio, aquellas con mayor ingesta combinada de sodio (3.7 gramos al día) y potasio (3.2 gramos al día) tuvieron la presión arterial más baja”, explica la dietista-nutricionista Elisa Escorihuela.

La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) recomienda un consumo inferior a los 5 gramos de sal al día, que es aproximadamente la sal que cabría en una cucharilla de café.

Pero la experta explica que no es la sal de nuestros saleros la que debemos dejar de usar.

“Si pensamos que debemos recortar el consumo de sal de nuestros saleros nos equivocamos, el exceso que consumimos está en los alimentos precocinados, aperitivos industriales y salsas que compramos. Lo aconsejable es reducir a cero los alimentos envasados y preparados”.

¿Y EL AZÚCAR?

La miel es un azúcar natural y, por tanto, es mejor que el azúcar procesado.

Si en su desayuno nunca falta una buena dosis de miel porque cree que así quedará a salvo de los perjuicios del

azúcar procesado, lo mejor es que vaya desechando esa creencia.

“El azúcar siempre es azúcar y el cuerpo no distingue la procedencia de una molécula”, advierte el dietista-nutricionista Álex Pérez, del Centro de Aten-

ción Primaria de Vallcarca-Sant Gervasi en Barcelona.

Por esto, añade, “el abuso de la miel puede ser igual de perjudicial para nuestra salud que el del azúcar refinado”.

“El azúcar blanco que se le pone al café contiene un 100 por ciento de sacarosa, mientras que la miel es una mezcla de fructosa, glucosa, sacarosa y un 18 por ciento de agua, junto con alguna pequeña cantidad de vitaminas y minerales”, indica el experto.

Pero esta combinación no implica que sus tres ingredientes principales no sean azúcares que, sin importar su procedencia, “producen el mismo efecto en nuestro organismo”.

Aunque muchas personas se resisten a creerlo, recuerda la doctora en Farmacia y nutricionista Marian García, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) indica que los azúcares presentes de forma natural en la miel, los jarabes, los jugos de fruta y los concentrados de jugo de fruta se consideran azúcares libres. Y estos, estén presentes de forma natural en el alimento o sean añadidos posteriormente, son “uno de principales factores que está dando lugar a un aumento de la obesidad y la diabetes en el mundo”, indica la OMS. “La miel contiene en torno a un 80 por ciento de azúcares que en el organismo se comportan como azúcares libres. Por tanto, su ingesta debería limitarse al igual que la del azúcar blanco”, concluye García.
