Summer Rocks at Camp Royal! For youth K-6 Hopkins Camp Royal Summer 2018 fun!

At Hopkins Community Education, we are pleased to bring to you our exciting Camp Royal summer youth programming. Designed to work around your schedule, our summer programming offers: • Flexibility: Our Monday-Thursday camps are designed around half-day blocks, with drop-off times starting at 8:00 am, and pick-up by 5:00 pm. Sign up for a full- or half-day, and lunch is included! • Variety: Our classes run the gamut of interests — from art, pottery, sports, science and technology (STEM), to Legos, cooking, and drama. We’re sure to have something for every child. • Affordability: We’ve priced our camps at an affordable price-point for families. • And most important – our camps are FUN! Join us this summer!

Frequently asked questions Who are our Camp Royal Staff? Dedicated professionals with an interest and/or hands-on experience in fields directly related to youth. Our Camp Royal Staff is comprised of district staff, teachers, college students, and local community professionals, with a broad range of knowledge and appropriate experience working with youth. Where and when do I drop-off and pick up? Youth need to be signed in and out of Camp Royal every day by a parent/guardian between 8-9 am; and 4-5 pm in the Eisenhower Community Center Entrance Lobby area (Door B). Students attending morningonly camps must be picked up at 12 pm unless they are staying for lunch — then pick-up time is by 12:30 pm. Drop-off for students attending afternoon-only camps begins at 12:30 pm unless they are coming for lunch — then drop-off time is 12:00 pm. Bus Information Starting on Week Two of the 2018 program (June 18), Camp Royal participants will have the availability of an early morning and late afternoon bus with pre-determined stops throughout the neighborhood. See page 28 for detailed busing information. What about lunch? Lunch is free, and is from 12:00-12:30 pm for Camp Royal participants. Lunch supervision is part of your Camp Royal fee and is supervised by Camp Royal staff. Your student may bring a bag lunch if they wish, and eat during the scheduled Camp Royal lunch time. How are kids supervised from 8-9 am, 4-5 pm, and during lunch? Our Camp Royal staff will supervise drop-off, lunch, and pick-up time periods outside of the regular camp programming time. During this time, youth have the option to participate in gym games and other small group activities. What is your ratio of staff to kids? Camp Royal follows state guidelines for Out-Of-School Time ratios, which are 15 to 1. Some class offerings will be below this ratio. Do you allow electronic devices to be brought to classes? Camp Royal youth will be very busy during programming time. Please leave electronic devices at home. Cell phones are welcome, but need to remain in the backpacks while participating in programming. Hopkins Community Education is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken devices. Who do I call if I need to talk to Camp Royal staff during programming time? The Camp Royal cell phone number will be provided to Camp Royal parents when the program begins. This phone number will be attended during programming times. Do you offer payment plans? Yes! We realize many families will be signing up for multiple weeks, and would like a payment plan option. If you are enrolling for multiple weeks, and would like to set up a payment plan, contact us at 952-988-4070 for registration and payment plan information. What is the cancellation/refund policy? We will gladly refund your class registration fee if you cancel and request a refund 5 business days prior to the first class. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment. In that case, we will call and make arrangements to refund your class fee.

Grades 2-6 Twin Cities Magic Academy Discover Magic is an introductory magic course designed just for kids. Boost selfconfidence, improve communication skills, and discover some great magic. Lacrosse Fun!

Grades 3-6 Camp Royal Staff Learn all the skills to play lacrosse, one of the most popular and growing sports in Minnesota! Camp participants will be introduced to this high-energy 600-year-old game and learn stick handling, proper positioning, passing, cradling and team skills. Please wear appropriate clothing, athletic shoes, and bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Equipment is provided. Concordia Language Villages Spanish Camp: Road Trip Hoopla!

Grades K-4 Concordia Language Villages Imagine a hilarious road trip to a far-off land filled with games like “I Spy”, “Road Trip Bingo”, or “Name that Tune!” We will explore a Spanish speaking country by car, stretching our legs at famous landmarks, taking photos, and laughing along the way! And, we’ll do it all in Spanish through the use of games, music, and imagination. Chinese Art & Cooking Camp

Grades 5-12 • Scott Stillman Join us as we make our exciting return to the newly renovated Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center! The 33rd year of Summer Field Biology is just around the corner and this year’s theme is “Caught in the Web of Minnesota’s Spiders”. We’ll learn about the 450+ species of araneae (spiders) spinning webs in Minnesota. Species identification, spider venom, and web creation will also be on our agenda as we work to understand these often feared, but amazing creatures. This is a technology-free program. We value this opportunity to unplug as we connect with each other and nature! #CR5500: limit 90 $539 July 10 (9:30 am-7:00 pm) at Hopkins High School July 16-20 at Wolf Ridge. Cost includes transportation, lodging, meals, and staffing. July 16-20: At Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center: Adventure: Climb indoor rock walls, traverse tree tops rope courses, paddle canoes, test your compass skills in orienteering, and explore lakes in kayaks (high school students). Cultural Learning: Learn about the Voyageurs and Ojibwe people who are part of our Minnesota history. Nature/Animal Life: Learn about the land and creatures with which we share our earth. Hiking: Hike to an elevation of 1,450 feet and watch the sun rise or set over Lake Superior. Conservation: Renew your commitment to sustainable living. Teamwork/Challenge: Work in mixed-age teams to compete in our annual Wolf Ridge Amazing Race. Fun: Sing songs at an outdoor bonfire with s’mores as we laugh and connect with new friends. Departure to Wolf Ridge: Our group will leave Hopkins High School on July 16 at 6:30 a.m. Return to Hopkins: We will return to Hopkins High School on Friday, July 20 shortly after 6:00 p.m. Multiple Child Discount: $50 off for each additional child enrolled. Camp Royal Bus Information New this summer! Hop on the bus. Starting on Week Two of the 2018 Camp Royal Program (June 18), participants will have the availability of an early morning and late afternoon bus with pre-determined stops throughout the neighborhood. This bus service is first come, first served and spots are limited. While this transportation service is offered to you without additional cost, registration is required. Busing will be provided by standard Hopkins School District Transportation. Exact bus stop times will be released in the weeks ahead. When you register for Camp Royal online, you will find information to indicate your need for bus service and to choose your preferred bus stop. Bus registration is required. Note: There will be no bus service Week 1 (June 11), Week 4 (July 2), and Week 10 (Aug. 13).
