OUR PARTNERS St. Martin de Porres Academy is a tuition-free Nativity model middle school that provides an extended day education for underserved girls and boys from low-income families in the New Haven area. SMDA is an independent Catholic school committed to a belief in the dignity and worth of every person. Since the initiation of our relationship with St. Martin de Porres academy we have worked with 40 students from the school.

HIGHLIGHTS AND ALUMNI/AE NEWS

Pathfinder provides a FOUR-YEAR, tuition-free program of comprehensive, rigorous academic preparation and high school admissions counseling to high potential middle school students from New Haven public and parochial schools.

Rayane Taroua ‘20 enrolled as a ninth grader at Hopkins School in the Fall of 2016. In her first two years at Hopkins, Rayane earned straight A’s and joined the varsity soccer team. Rayane holds a leadership position on the Student Diversity Leadership Board and is one of the current heads of Students United For Racial Equality (SURE). Rayane also tutors at local elementary schools and through Elm City Internationals, a college-preparatory youth mentoring organization that uses soccer to engage low-income youth in academics.

Pathfinder is also a pre-service teacher-training program that prepares talented high school and college students to pursue teaching careers.

Michelle Medina ‘18 graduated from Hopkins School as a Mary Brewster Thompson Scholar in June. She is currently a first year student at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Michelle is studying genetics, computer science, French, and calculus. She continues to radiate her positive attitude and volunteers as a tutor at a Providence area high school.

After School Program Offerings Expanded — Since our recent expansion of the program seeking to include rising 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders, we decided to extend our after school elective offerings.

In the Spring of 2018, Pathfinder students had the choice to enroll in Creative Writing, Independent Historical Research, and Chinese Language courses — all taught by Hopkins School faculty. Our youngest students had the opportunity to participate in exciting and engaging Latin coursework, and Hopkins seniors Luke El-Fishawy ’18, Joshua Ip ’18, and junior Adwith Mukherjee ’19 developed and taught their own Robotics course.
