One of my favorite things is taking a vision from inside my head and actualizing it. The euphoria of seeing it go from nothing to something is indescribable. With that said, my hobby this Spring is baking—from scratch!

Throw out the cake mixes and venture into a world of Cassava, Zucchini, Carrot loaves, Pound cakes, and Sweet Potato puddings. Imagine the euphoria when it does happen?

If the weather here in the Great WHITE North allows, I will be playing tennis, biking, hiking, and rollerblading.

LET'S DO IT AGAIN...

BUT THAT MUCH BETTER! A note from the Editor, Sidonie Walsh

Got "Re" on the brain?" Since the start of the year, I have been living and dreaming of words that begin with "Re." I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. Like the moment you get a particular car, you see it everywhere, even though you probably never noticed it before. Admittedly, I can be a little slow to catch on, so God, in His infinite wisdom, orchestrated a series of "Re" occasions to address my constant disbelief. I couldn't get away from "Re!" It was in everything I watched, read, and heard. After asking the question, "is it me?" I finally caught on that the "Re" words surrounding me from renew, redo, refresh, revive, reset, refocus, reaffirm, and restore weren't coincidental, but had everything to do with the direction of our Spring Issue. So here you have it — Hope the "Re" issue.

So many times, we ask for a do-over. It all comes from the notion of keeping that thing, that dream, that relationship alive. You can do things differently, and you should! You are not stuck in any situation. Activate your "Re" word(s) to speak life or new direction into any situation. I encourage you to live the life that you have imagined. This takes intentionality, staying in tune with who you are and whom you are becoming, and may involve reimagining a dream.

You may have one "Re" word in this season, or like me, you have many. Please pay attention, lean in, take charge, and don't ignore them. They are the keys to bringing you to new levels. So today, open your eyes and find yours; open your ears, stay still and listen. It might be saying; restart, refocus, rewrite, replay.

Here is an opportunity to do it again, and this time, it will be that much better!

OUR PATH TO 'RE'ALIZATION By: Kishanie Whyte

T

he search for inspiration leads us on many paths. We seek to rediscover the beauty in the mundane and reignite passions that once illuminated our imagination. We look for different ways to tell our stories and yearn to fill our days with meaningful exploits that assure us that we are still on the journey toward being better, that we are still growing.

Now in our third issue, I am amazed—invariably, at how much of all we do is propelled in esse by HOPE. That feeling of expectation motivates, drives, and ushers us through challenging seasons and has us ‘following’ our dreams. It is the dream of HOPE to be an outlet and inlet for stories that spark change and remind us that we are not journeying alone.

Excitedly, we decided to take a detour while on the H.O.P.E path and explore words with the prefix “Re”— a word-forming element that means again, anew, once more, and in our minds; screams opportunity, life, and striving for better. Our community of resilient, talented women bring us stories of renewal, restoration, and release. Stories that foster hope, and energize and inspire us to activate or reactivate the calling God placed on our lives. We also celebrate our Mothers in this issue, the women who taught us, by example, how to embody the ‘Re’ words this issue highlights.

As ambition moves us forward and we advance, hand in hand toward strength in solidarity, I challenge you to recondition your mind and reimagine a future with more grace, love, and hope for restoration, renewal, reinvention, and rest.

REAWAKE AND BEGIN AGAIN By: Renee Davis

H

ave you descended from your mountain peak and are now stuck at the bottom?

Currently located in a wounded place? Not such a bad place to be, considering that we always have the opportunity to begin again.

There is nothing better than a fresh start; the season of Spring testifies to this—I have never seen a year without Spring. It never fails; trees, shrubs, and small plants reawaken with new, budding flowers each Spring season. As we exit the cold winter and enter warmer weather, flowers begin to bloom, seeds germinate, and buds grow faster in the heat than in the cold weather. How a blooming flower or a tree in bloom revitalizes the garden or any space that it is in!

How grand does a street look when it is lined with majestically beautiful cherry blossom trees each Spring. My absolute favorite scene this time of the year!

Trees that were once bare, sticks defending themselves from sometimes brutal winters now with the opening of Spring magnificently adorn streets, avenues, and lanes. So it is after we've experienced gloomy times that we still have the chance to dust ourselves off and begin again. Because there is the movement of life, because there is hope, we never have to stay in a stagnated place...stagnation ruins destinies!!!

There was a time when I found myself seemingly at the bottom, worse yet, in a confused state after a wrong turn taken, a terrible, consequence-charged detour. I remember it vividly, like it was yesterday. Thankfully, I serve a God of second chances, so I was able to overcome, realign and start over. I am forever grateful for that new beginning...it felt like a re-birth.

When you are in a predicament because of a negative event, and you are in the self�loathing phase, or your thoughts are dominated by fear and doubt—don't forget that you still have a chance to put things in reverse or execute a complete "doover." Get up, stand up, and reaffirm your hope right now!

Remind yourself of the confident woman you are who had many triumphs before that event. It does not invalidate your potential to craft and create anew or change your situation entirely.

Stop that corrosive train of thought right in its tracks! Remember God says: "I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jeremiah 29:11).

Want to hear something even more intriguing? The day always follows the night—show me a force that can stop the day from following the night, and that'll prove to me that we don't have the chance to continuously reset. Just as I thought...not possible.

We have room for second chances each day! You see, there isn't even a long wait; your chance at redemption comes with each new day! As sure as the morning follows, the night is how definite your reclamation is right there in front of you. So, what are you waiting for? Seize your Spring season, seize your new dawn!

So why think thoughts to the contrary? Why harbor thoughts of fear and self- doubt? Those certainly aren't the thoughts God has towards you.

I dare you to put aside those self-impeding thoughts and reimagine how you can once again embark upon your very decorated journey and how you can put your goals and dreams into motion once more. Go ahead, take yourself off pause, hit that continue button. I realized that my future is as bright as these springtime flowers I am looking at just outside my window.

MENTAL RESET By: Tana Mitchell

T

he remodelling industry has experienced many changes over the last few years through technological advances, new products and materials, building requirements, and labor shortages. Yet deadlines are deadlines, projects must stay within budget, and the client's expectations must be met.

Weekend mornings are also a low energy level time for me.

I thought about healthy stimulants I could plug into that time slot that would trigger an energy peak. My solution for that?

Music. Playing my favorite music gave me the energy boost to start my day and knock out errands and chores neglected during the week.

It's safe to say that we're in unprecedented times and that things probably won't go back to the way they were. So while the industry was changing, I pondered how not to let the pressure of client expectations put me in a funk. The solution—a mental rest. I have found that the best plan of action was to reset my mind, and I focused on key elements that I will dig into below.

Are you a morning person, or do you thrive in the evening?

Once you understand when your energy peaks, tackle the challenging tasks when your energy levels are high and leave the routine tasks for your low energy periods. Come up with ways to motivate yourself during the super low energy periods.

ENERGY – Energy: First, I spent some time understanding my daily energy levels. Because I'm exhausted by evening, I decided to focus on tackling major tasks for the day in the late morning, which is my energy peak. Finding healthy ways to boost my low energy moments was also important. For example, grabbing a cup of coffee first thing in the morning seemed like the best move, but health experts say water is the better choice (usatoday.com). So now I sip water as soon as I open my eyes in the mornings, and surprisingly my body and mind perk up.

MEDITATE/PRAY – Then there is meditation - thinking positive thoughts. Meditation allowed me to decrease my stress-inducing thoughts while increasing my selfawareness. My position as Construction Project Coordinator is mentally draining, and my role is integral to all departments in the company. Budgets, requests for quotes, purchasing, shipping, permitting, inspections, site meetings, and scheduling are only half of the steady stream of background thoughts on my mind all day. On the verge of burnout, I decided to add meditation to my reset routine. Meditation is a simple practice available to all; reducing stress, increasing calmness and clarity, and promoting happiness. Consider incorporating this into your daily schedule. I spend ten minutes each morning distressing this way, and it has worked wonders.

BEAUTY - Beautify your living space. Research indicates a relationship between the perception of beauty and the impact of design on health, well-being, and even behavior.

Neuroaesthetics, which examines aesthetics from the perspective of neuroscience, is one field of research that captures the psychological effects of beauty incorporated into designs. This research demonstrates that design with the deliberate intention to incorporate beauty is imperative to human psychological well-being, with positive effects on learning, social behavior, and emotional wellness.

Adding plants to your living space or something as simple as rearranging your furniture will do wonders for mental health.

I recently attended a plant fair which was a fun activity, and I returned home to try out some room rearranging. So the next time you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or just in a bad mood, spend time enjoying your beautiful space.

KEEP IN TOUCH - Keep in touch: The pandemic has evaporated entire categories of friendships and, by doing so, depleted the joys that make up human life. Work-life was also eating away at my social life. My reset pushed me to strengthen my connections and not let the world's craziness be a roadblock. Staying in touch with friends and family can make you feel included and cared for. They can offer different views from whatever's inside your head. I've prioritized touching base with loved ones, even for a quick phone call or text. Staying connected helped me to keep active and grounded. These small interactions are essential, and we should not take them for granted.

EXERCISE – Exercise: We already know that exercise is good for our bodies. But did you know it can also boost your mood, improve your sleep, and help you deal with depression, anxiety, stress, and more? So I joined a yoga group and a ballet exercise. It was intimidating to start because I hadn't worked out in a while. Still, I reminded myself that some exercise is better than no exercise. Make exercise a part of your daily routine. It can be as simple as washing the car, walking, or cycling instead of driving or walking your kids to school.

SYSTEMS – Systems: Develop a system that works for you.

By establishing a system that makes sense for you, you can accomplish more —positively impacting productivity and life balance. I focus on routines; I've found routines are best used on tasks that I perform often, but in the same way. For example, my morning drink of water (with a cup of coffee to chase lol), morning meditation, work, then evening exercise.

These are the things I do every day. My systems are the last items on the reset list— I revisit them occasionally.

By making just a few changes, you can reset your brain.

You'll get more done and feel better too. I know I do!

F

rom 2019 – 2021 the world was brought to its knees by an unrelenting pandemic. It brought panic, loss of confidence, and a doubtful spirit for many. As we meander into 2022, trying to uplift our spirits and make the best of horrible situations, we are encouraged to RENEW what we have all been given.

The bible in Romans 12:2 encourages us: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God"(KJV).

The constant renewal of spirit and our surroundings will always provide a new outlook on life and provide us with a zeal to make things happen.

Renewal brings to mind rebirth - from something old, something new springs. We can always renew ourselves in different ways, both physically, mentally, and through constant communication with God. Praying should be the most important way to uplift your spirit. Staying close to God through daily prayer and meditation can strengthen your

relationship and give you a positive outlook on life, even when things seem hopeless.

Along with your communion with God, here are other ways we can find renewal: Declutter your living space: Get rid of the things you no longer use. Donate clothing to charity, offer items to friends and give books to a library. Declutter your brain by reevaluating your priorities. Let go of the past and enjoy the present; think positively about any situation you are placed in.

Begin something new: Explore your creativity; return to school, learn a new language, learn to play an instrument.

Set personal days to rest, relax and refresh. Start slowly and move intentionally. You will be surprised at how this

renewal unfolds.

Start a daily routine: Whether spiritual (bible study) or physical (exercise), start something that will be routine.

Explore nature: Venture outside your home. Walk, camp, or plant a tree. Learn about plants and their medicinal properties.

Travel: Find a new place to explore and learn about a new culture. This will provide a fresh perspective and help you to understand other individuals.

Read: If you are a reader, explore a new genre. Try an unknown author. Start a book club. Explore the section of the bookstore you wouldn't usually go to.

important as you will see the benefits of your renewal and be even more encouraged.

In 2021 while I worked from home, I began to feel restless.

I wanted to do something different, learn something new.

I was already into yoga, doing it every day. Still, I wanted a change, a renewal, so I started cardio, weightlifting, and skipping along with yoga. This renewal has encouraged and reminded me that I am strong. It has also shifted my distracted focus to something that I can grow and develop.

From 5lb dumbbells to 20lb dumbbells? That is a definite improvement and something to celebrate.

One might think that renewal or trying something new is expensive or too time- consuming, but I encourage you to try one thing per week. Start with 15 minutes per day and gradually increase the time, and you will see that the more you do something, the more time you will set aside to do it.

Remember too that in stepping out to renew yourself: "...

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV)

What is the mission of Breaking Pains? Whom are you assisting?

To give back to less fortunate inner-city communities in Jamaica, I did my first charity in Callaloo Mews.

How long has breaking pains been in operation?

18 years since 2004. I believe it’s a direct assignment from God. What are some challenges Breaking Pains faced during the pandemic?

B.P.O had a lot of challenges during the pandemic, which disrupted the ability to distribute donations and aid due to the limits placed on travel and shipping.

What inspires you to keep going in the face of adversity?

I was in need at one point in my life and remembered the gratitude I felt knowing there was someone to lend a helping hand and was assured God has not forgotten or forsaken me. So I promised myself I would go forward, breaking as much pain in as many people as possible.

How do you stay energized and renewed in these unprecedented times?

I have found that leaning on God provides renewal. I am energized through scripture. One of my go-to scriptures is Romans 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWING of your mind." It is a reminder that no matter what the situation God can always renew your spirit and life and allow you to be a source of renewal for others.

VOWS RENEWED! By: Sidonie Walsh

T

his Spring, after 30 years of marriage, my parents, Cecil and Carlene, renewed their vows. If you know my parents, you will understand how special they are. The allure of renewal was to honor how far they've come and to bring family and friends together, showing us what God's grace and love look like.

A marriage that long, though impressive, is not easy, but once you've cracked the code, you can enjoy bliss like my parents.

I look at them and see two imperfect individuals loving each other perfectly. I've always been impressed by how accepting they are of each other—flaws and all.

There is grace, and allowances are made to the other to be exactly who they are and need to be at any given moment.

There's never effort placed on changing the core of one another. My dad takes a long time to leave the house; as the protector, he makes sure all the lights are off. Every window and door is checked and rechecked, which sometimes takes 10 minutes, depending on the offences during his check. Instead of telling him to hurry up or get annoyed, my mom would cheerily say, "let's get in the car early so he can start his rounds for us to leave on time."

On the other hand, my mom does not waste food; she will have just a small amount of leftovers lying around, which one usually would throw in the garbage. But my dad would say, "let's just save it for her just in case."

I find that grace, love, and acceptance of each other's quirks have saved disagreements and allowed love to grow even more. I know that keeping God in the middle of their marriage grew their faith and anchored their love.

Their love and bond were renewed this Spring, and all who witnessed were renewed —renewed in our spirits, to our partners (seeing it is possible), our calling, and God!

So as the sun sets, overlooking the river, with their close friends and family beholding them, they renew their sacred bond of matrimony. Giving the answer "Yes, I will do it again." Knowing that God gave them the blueprint of love.

Love is patient and kind. It is not boastful, arrogant or rude. Love keeps no record of wrongs. It bears, believes and hopes all things. Love never fails!hopes all things. Love never fails!

RESTART AND REROUTE: THERE IS ANOTHER WAY! By: Sidonie Walsh

I rarely set off to go somewhere without knowing where I want to end up. When I get in my car, I have my destination in mind. I'm taking my kids to school; I'm going to work; I'm going to the grocery store; I'm going home. This makes sense for many reasons, yet I'm perplexed at how many times we set out on life's journey just going without a destination or a purpose in mind.

Not just your daily ins and outs, but the overall theme and purpose of your existence each day. So many times, we are busy moving, just enjoying the thrill of the ride. This works out fine for a time if there are no barriers on the road. The problem is life's journey is not always smooth. There are potholes, stop lights, detours and road closures. If you don't know where you are going, this can "trip you up". You either go back to where you came from, and sometimes the way back gets blocked too, or you stay stuck in the place where the problem occurred. Why does this happen? It can happen if you do not move with purpose or an expected destination.

I live in a rural area, and if I should count the ways to get home, I can still think of at least 10 roads that could take me there. If one road closes, because I know where I’m going, I am constantly recalibrating to try different routes to get to my home. If I didn’t know where I was heading, I, like many,

would feel confused, and probably you would find me in a ditch crying helplessl If someone even came along to help me, I probably wouldn't know where to tell them to take me since there was no place in mind. They may take me somewhere but not where I ought to be, thus continuing the aimless cycle.

Coupled with God, map out where you are going before you start. We get not because we ask not. Ask, "Dear Lord, in this season of my life, where do you want me to go? What is it that you want me to accomplish?" Ask, listen and make yourself available to receive his answers. Then hide them in your heart and move with authority because of Who endorsed and ordered your steps.

You'll be dressed for the part because you know your intended destination. You have the privilege of turning down different roads if a problem occurs. Even if you stop, it is just for a bit to strategize a new path to the destination.

Come what may, you will find a way; you will undoubtedly find another route to get there because you know where you're going.

nhale. Exhale. Release.

Every day we are releasing. Releasing is a necessity to live. We release to survive and to thrive. We also release so others can survive and thrive. It is a peculiar thought that our releasing helps others and aids in their very survival! It is true, though, that is how God made us; however, there must be wisdom in knowing what, where, and how to release, as there is an adverse side of the release.

God used plants to show us the importance of how certain substances released from us can truly help others in impactful and integral ways. In a similar fashion though, we must release certain substances for our own survival, if we do not, we ourselves can suffer loss and if we are not careful of how we release these detrimental substances, others may also become casualties.

Release the Hard Stuff

Release for Others, Release for Ourselves When we engage sensorily, an internal reaction occurs, much like the chemical reaction of photosynthesis. Then, we release. Someone once told me that "it is not good to sleep with plants in your house because the plants consume the air and will stifle you." As a long-ago Biology major, I was surprised with that warning, given the probability. That warning comes to my mind because though it is a fact that plants release oxygen during the day (as God's way of creating a breathable environment for us), plants also consume oxygen and expel carbon dioxide, which is fatal to people. Plants do so primarily at night when there is no sunlight to allow for them to perform photosynthesis. No science background is required to understand this point, but plants essentially can sustain life or suffocate us! It entirely depends on what is being RELEASED and the consumption ratio.

"ARE WE RELEASING LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, GENTLENESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MEEKNESS, AND TEMPERANCE?"

Whose conduit do we belong to? Are we releasing love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance? Are we releasing a substance that nurtures, brings life, and sustains hope? Or the opposite?

When we must expel the carbon dioxide from our lives, the hard stuff, are we ensuring that no fatalities or poisoning occur to those closest to us in heart or proximity?

The reference to carbon dioxide refers to the situations, behaviors and thoughts that do not sit well in our spirit. They can cause us to be upset, sad, frustrated, and overwhelmed.

As a result, when left to fester, the outcome can often lead us to release these feelings adversely. Our spirit tries to release certain substances to survive! Now, this is where the What, How and Where comes to importance. We must identify what is not sitting well, the root. After we identify the root, we can think of how to address it in a healthy way. A way that is true to our experience but also honors God. Lastly, where we release, speaks to both place and time because now we are managing our release of what ails us. Not the other way around. We are ensuring we are not merely spewing out, actively nor passively, whether through action or inaction, substances that may seriously harm others unintended.

The Source and our Choice The two types of release I’ve tried to explain can occur at different times, and in varying situations. It is a sort of a double- edged sword. The key is when releasing what we must for our own sake, it enables us to release more of what God wants us to release into the world, unadulteratedly. It unclogs us to breathe a little better; help a soul, nurture life.

As a child of God, I know there is one Creator, my heavenly father, and savior, Jesus. Lord of All. Anything produced that is good, wholesome, or of any substance to a person's wellbeing is ultimately sourced from the wonder of God. It is a replication or reflection of the original majesty in some way or another.

People and content creators are conduits releasing from an original source. The choice is ours. God, in all His infinite wisdom, knows the heart, mind, and ability of every person.

Independent of ability, He knows His purpose for each person and how the providence of His Spirit can bring abundant increase outside of our human ability.

There is precious release in every one of us. Pure.

Purposeful. Sometimes it may feel like a fire in our bones, wanting to escape! I want that release. I believe it is achievable through intentionally seeking our Creator, being consistent with a humble heart posture, and discipline in our commitment to release what is eagerly waiting to come forth!

I am on my journey and pray for you on yours.

I think of home. I think of a safe space where I have someone who is always in my corner.

The person who gets more upset than I do when there is any injustice against me.

I think of my biggest cheerleader, who sees more promise in my abilities than I could ever see. I see a woman who has cracked the true happiness and contentment code. The secret is to trust and give every worry to Jesus.

My mother smiles in the midst of the storm, and who knows to be humble and how to abound. Oh, and she can do some abounding- looking for every occasion to celebrate and not afraid to put the essence of who she is on display.

When they meet my mother, people's first reaction is, "Wow, you look just like her." For the first time yesterday, someone told me I also act like her, and I rejected it because I could never be as perfect as she is. Her kindness and selflessness are beyond my understanding.

Her connection with God. Her unrelenting and giving spirit. Her "Yes, of course" response to every request. Her authentic need to make others happy and make them feel like her best friends.

Her desire to love and be kind to others. Her "be yourself" mantra. Her mission to encourage everyone to embrace and celebrate the person God made them to be.

As I reflect on Carlene's perfection, I am nothing but proud. Proud to be in her company and to know her personally. To see the smile that genuinely lights up the entire room, the heart that lives outside her body. It is truly an honor to know her.

Happy Mother's Day to Emel Powell From your daughter Carlene When I was growing up I spent a lot of quality time with my mother. Being her youngest daughter, she brought me everywhere with her, especially church.

Being around her so much, I sparked a deep interest in everything that she did, like crafts and baking. Years have gone by and she's now 91, and I'm honored and blessed as she is living with me. I'm able to share more quality time with her and that is priceless.

When I think of my mother, I see a woman of principle, kind-hearted and who will lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She often says, "If you are in a position to help someone, even if they are undeserving, you should help them. She's a woman after God's own heart, who loves her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is strong in her faith and loves the Lord. I cherish every moment with her and the time that we still share, I never take for granted.

few years ago, I became a plant lady.

I currently have 8. There’s something peaceful about being surrounded by living things. This one particular plant needs more attention than the others, but I love it just the same. You can see its leaves withering when it needs water, and you can visibly see its revival after it receives it. People are like plants; we need to be watered.

I had a realization when I turned 38, I felt as if something was missing; I was thirsty and needed to be watered.

I needed a revival, an awakening so to speak. This thought brought me back to church revivals, although quite young at the time, I knew it was necessary. I could feel a rebirth in my spirit a new sense of purpose and I searched for that feeling again. I decided to return to my roots, and while I was on my knees, I asked God for a plan. I played Excess Love by Mercy Chinwo on repeat, my soul transcended, and I felt a revival within my spirit.

What was dead in me had been revived. I felt a sense of peace and gratitude and I just knew everything was going to be fine. I was freed from all the negative thoughts of not being enough. I try to always see the positive side of things.

Every lesson is a blessing, and every trial has a purpose. I feel good within my spirit and I’m grateful for the person I’m becoming.

I

t's been a hectic couple of weeks, and typically when it's this busy, you crave one thing... to disconnect, to break free from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The demands, the requirements, the deadlines, the tasks, the to-do lists. You want to take yourself away, be by yourself to sleep to rest. You want to escape to a place with no alarm clocks, start times, end times, and deadlines... just you being free!

truth, why is it when I disconnect by chillin', bingewatching, or scrolling mindlessly on social media... I still don't feel refreshed? Why am I not reinvigorated?

Why do I still feel exhausted? On the contrary, I have observed that when I do the opposite —when I am using my "free time" to operate in my gifting, when I am developing in areas God has placed me or when I am working on His projects, it brings me so much more fulfillment, peace, and joy.

I'm in the middle of a lot; just call me "Mrs Busy." I am purchasing my first property and starting a new role as Group Sales & Marketing Manager for a large engineering company —learning a brand-new side of engineering. I am also in the middle of a course on "The Fundamentals of Sales Management" while still serving clients from my other businesses and of course being a wonderful wife. Let's also add that in true form, God continues to reveal bigger visions and prods me in new directions. I find myself trying to figure out how I will manage all of this while still prioritizing God's calling on my life.

The truth is that disconnecting from THE WORD is the enemy's goal; "he comes to kill steal & destroy." The master of distraction and disconnection. Instead, we should be disconnecting from the world and reconnecting to THE WORD. "God, (THE WORD), came to give us an ABUNDANT LIFE." He came to give us the opportunity of RESTORATION in RECONNECTION.

Why do we need RECONNECTION for RESTORATION? We need it because our Heavenly Father intricately designed us that way. "God, you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. 3. RECONNECT to The One who is The Truth.

My soul knows the truth, and the truth is experienced by my spirit. That truth is, "He restores my soul!" [Psalm 23:3]. When I spend time with God and reconnect to His Power, He will restore and refresh my mind, emotions, will, intellect and imagination. He restores my soul.

So back to Him, I go, back to The Source I know. To connect, to RECONNECT. When I RECONNECT, He RESTORES, He REENERGIZES, He REVITALIZES, He RESETS, He REINVIGORATES, and He REFRESHES. Now I press forward confidently, declaring, "Yes, I AM! so, Yes, I CAN!" Now I will fill my "free time" with that which frees and fulfills me. This new world that we are all experiencing has taught me if nothing else— to celebrate each moment, be grateful for my relationships and enjoy the blessings that God has bestowed upon me. I now more than ever see beauty in the ordinary and can envision the potential in things that I normally took for granted.

This year for my birthday, I really wanted to do something special and close to home. I find that the fuss of going to noisy public places leaves me feeling unfulfilled and is more of a bother than I desired. I just wanted Zen and to spend meaningful time, with good friends and family.

One day after my landscaper cut the grass, I stood on my patio and looked out at the beautiful greenery and it dawned on me, "I'm going to have a backyard party." Although it was in my honor, it took on a life of its own. I wanted to create a memorable experience for the people around me.

I wanted to have people witness the beauty of simplicity. I wanted them to have an experience. To get out of the norm and enjoy nature and God's beauty. So, my gift to myself was to give everyone else this beautiful, out of the norm, one with nature experience.

Come and see how we transformed the space and enjoyed the outdoors, feeling at peace with God's blessings and beauty.

The bold color on my wall with white highlights and greenery also symbolizes the harmony of colors—the simplicity of primary colors working together without conflict and giving each their own space to shine.

Each area in my room represents a portion of my life. A visual of my mind. My thoughts. The workplace. The chair. The ottoman.

The guitar picture. The books. The white sheets. The hints of gold represent my royal status, my place in the kingdom of the Lord. The arch in the mirror. The quote, "In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus." My mantra. Yes, please give me Jesus.

Reinvent your wardrobe The first step in this process is to CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET! I mean getting rid of pieces that you don't gravitate toward anymore. For most of us, the items in our closets are purchases we made to keep up with the latest trends but never wear. We need to keep items that we know will get the most use. You might not wear certain items for every occasion, but you know said item will be worn eventually. I struggle to get rid of clothing because I think, "Oh well, maybe I will wear this one day," or "Maybe if I just hold on to it for a few more years, it is bound to come back in style, right?" Wrong!

When you start sifting through your wardrobe, you will determine which items should stay and which items can be donated or sold. A tip is to try everything on to make sure the clothing items fit you and that you're comfortable with what you're wearing.

Simple salads are a hit too, but I also admit that Spring is when I begin making hearty meals as well. That is when I finally recoup from the holidays and start feeling like cooking again.

AVOCADO SALAD INGREDIENTS • • • • • • •

1 ripened avocado 1 large tomato 1/4 white onions 1/8 tsp salt 1/8 tsp pepper 2 twigs of cilantro 2 tsp lime juice

DIRECTIONS • Dice avocado and tomato into small squares • Finely chop 1/4 of an onion and cilantro and toss in • Add salt, pepper and lime juice • Mix and enjoy!

You can enjoy it alone, on toast or as a refreshing addition to your meal.

5 Strawberries 2 Carrot sticks 2 Blood Oranges 2 navel Oranges 2 Fiji Apples 1 Celery stick 1/2 tsp Turmeric 2 Tbsp Ginger 1 Lemon Black berries & Raspberries to garnish

DIRECTIONS • Peel oranges, carrots, ginger and Turmeric. Cut fruits and veggies in chunks and add in small portions to juicer.

Add ice, blackberries and raspberries for garnish. Makes three 8 oz glasses.

• Rinse oxtails with water and vinegar • Season oxtails with soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt,

3 lbs Oxtails 2 Table spoon brown sugar 1 Tablespoon soy sauce 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce 1 Tablespoon salt or seasoning salt 2 teaspoons garlic powder 1 teaspoon all-spice 1 teaspoon browning 4 Tablespoons vegetable oil 1 yellow onion chopped 4 green onions chopped 1 Tablespoon garlic chopped 1 scotch bonnet chopped 2 Tablespoon ketchup 2 teaspoon dried thyme 1/2 cup water water 1 can Butter Beans drained

• Set Pressure Cooker on High and once hot, add vegetable oil.

• Next, add oxtail pieces and brown on each side. Remove oxtail after browning.

• Deglaze your pressure cooker by adding about 1/4 cup of water.

• Add your yellow onions, green onions, garlic, and scotch bonnet pepper. Stir and sauté

for about 5 minutes.

• Add dried thyme, oxtails, sugar, rest of water and ketchup to the pressure cooker.

• Cover and cook on high pressure for 55 minutes. Once timer is done, allow pressure

cooker to release.

• Once all pressure has released, open lid and remove oxtails and vegetables, leaving

liquid behind. Turn Pressure Cooker on sauté. Once liquid begins to simmer, drained butter beans into pressure cooker and allow to simmer for about 5 minutes

• Add oxtails and vegetables back to the pressure cooker uncovered and let simmer for

additional 5 minutes.

• Serve and enjoy!

RICE AND PEAS Serves 6-8

INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

1.5 cup dried kidney beans—rinsed, soaked overnight 4 cups water 1 small onion, finely chopped 2 scallions chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced 5 allspice berries 5 thyme sprigs 1 Scotch bonnet pepper 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar 2 table spoon vegetable oil One can coconut milk 3 cups white rice

INSTRUCTIONS • First step: Cook Peas In a large saucepan, cover the peas with the water and bring to a boil over moderately high heat for 35 minutes. Stir in the onion, scallions, garlic, allspice, thyme, Scotch bonnet, and 1 teaspoon salt. Stir in the coconut milk and bring to a simmer. Cover and simmer over low heat until peas are tender, another 35 minutes.

• Second step: Add in rice Stir in the rice, add more water to cover rice if needed, bring to a boil, then stir, reduce heat to low and simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed, about 40 minutes. Remove thyme sprigs, scallion and scotch bonnet before serving. Serve hot with your oxtail, fresh salad or your side of choice.

UNTIL NEXT TIME I hope that this “Re” issue has stirred in us the courage to begin again. The realization that our Spring is sometimes just a stone’s throw away. Following the anticipation of better, different, greater, wider, higher — our Spring can be one thought away.

We have the power to reimagine dreams. We are strong and full of promise, so we can add life into seemingly dead situations.

Spring reminds us that leaves will sprout with one change in the air; buds will bloom; fruits will grow; birds will sing again.

All we need is to let go of worry and release the fruits of His Spirit, reawaken, renew and reset our minds. There is always a way to your destination, so restart and reroute. We can refresh, revamp and reinvent ourselves to restore and revive all that God has planned for us.

Let us reimagine the life we desire - the one God intended. Now is the time. The air is sweet. Spring is here!
