It’s been a long hot summer and I have loved every minute of it, what about you?

We’ve taken advantage of our freedoms and all been really busy enjoying our beautiful country. Whether on days trips, weekend breaks or staycations, it’s great to see everyone’s social media updates on activities, sightseeing and general relaxations in a beauty spot or 2.

I hope this newsletter has been worth the wait, it’s taken a long while to get here, since summer has kept us busy with other things. We have some real gems for you, focusing on new businesses that have started and flourished during this new normal of ours. We are thankful we’ve come through it and looking forward to the rest of 2021. Enjoy!

I certainly hope so, we have seen some amazing sole traders and small businesses emerging recently, mostly due to furlough and lockdown. It is very admirable that people are not just putting their feet up while they wait for their industries to come alive again after the pandemic, the motivation and online creativity have been inspiring.

One such company is Wild Ninety, they launched in November 2020 and offer handmade home accessories made from sustainable materials like metal, concrete, and the most beautiful natural woods. As they say it “started with a shelf”

Courtney is a graduate from Napier University who excels in branding, design, advertising and beautiful photography, her dedication to her studies has paid off as you will see. As soon as I saw her ‘rich tea’ biscuit business card, it hooked me in. I knew I had to work with her on future projects, that imagination, creativity and humour rolled into one came across in the one piece of artwork - it was a winner!

Courtney designed the branding for a craft and rustic home made company ‘Rubble’ who specialise in all things for the home, from party favours to home decor, all originals made from scratch at the clients request. Courtney came up with a rustic look using browns, metallic silvers and earthy colours and a business card that looks the part, even down to the ‘worn’ out edges. Courtneys imagination and originality is at its best here and it certainly works for Rubble.

G & G Custom Coating is a new start up company that can build you the driveway or flooring of dreams, again a company with a focus on originality! Decorative Epoxy coatings for floors and driveways is their main service and they collaborated with Courtney on their logo and branding, she delivered outstanding results again. What’s unique about her is she will talk you through what she’s thinking, send you her ideas and take on board yours too, Courtney listens thoroughly to her clients and guides them, she really is a dream designer.

I could talk of more companies she’s branded and her design inventiveness, but we’d never fit in any pictures for you to enjoy, they speak for themselves. She truly is a Scottish gem within the Edinburgh creative circles.

HOMES AND INTERIORS When I found out my favourite Interior Designer was moving a couple of hundred mile away I was awash with disappointment. Who could I turn to now when I needed a second opinion on decor, colour schemes, accessories and rugs, I love buying rugs as they can age really quickly.

Kirsty has also taken her utility room to a new level and made it a joy to do the laundry in. She has utilise space brilliantly by using decorative storage boxes for each member of the families washing, and these leather handle she has put into the cupboard inject a rustic but modern look. The lick of darker shades of paint on the cupboard doors and decorative tile sticker transform it from plain to stylish with some sophistication thrown in. Anyway, this being an online world now means I can still catch up on her home decor progress in her beautiful new home up the North of Scotland! Insta and Facebook mean I can delve in and see what she’s been up to, she’s also our resident Interiors expert but since she has a newborn I thought I’d step in to her shoes and let her enjoy her Maternity leave.

It’s been beautiful weather this summer on some days so it’s very apt that she should make some cosmetic improvements to her summer house. Take a look at the gorgeous photos for inspiration:

They have recently installed driveways with this being the summer months and are looking for anyone with home improvement needs indoors during the winter.

Epoxy is an alternative to create your very own unique design for bathroom walls, kitchen surfaces and flooring. There have been some interesting and unique examples over recent years circulated online. Like the bronze coins laid on a floor and coated with the protective resin coating, I’ve even seen 45” vinyl records on floors displayed online too. Reception areas, beauty salons and large industrial or retail areas are prime examples where epoxy solutions are perfect. You could lay a logo, photo or original design on the floor wall or work surface and coat it with epoxy, it’s long lasting, tough and durable.

They are polishing a kitchen concrete floor in an old property now, it’s currently being renovated and the client has original features and pillars which have been revamped and they want the floor to be in keeping with this.
