STEPHANIE WEAVER EC/SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

I feel like each day I walk into the building, I am walking on Holy ground; I am on a special assignment to work with the Lord’s special little ones. I “get” to work alongside God & our amazing staff and families to build trust and solve challenges for the benefit of our most vulnerable students. However, the coolest part is that they do not stay that way! As the Lord has called our students and families, so HE has called our staff, and through HIS fingers, our team loves, teaches & supports these kids creatively toward successful growth academically, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

One of our first-grade students was not supposed to be able to walk or talk when adopted by his parents as a baby. His family showed up at our Back-to-school Bash feeling led all the way from Gibsonville, not knowing how it would work out, but were clearly convinced that Hope was their school. He finished his year as a happy, well-adjusted student who could do far more than when he started. Two of our 7th graders grew 99% since the start of the year in Reading Comprehension on our national MAP Test scores by learning new ways of focusing and applying raw determination. Overcoming multiple barriers, a 6th-grader stunned even himself when he performed lines in our production of Annie & taught his fellow classmate how to play chess. One of our 3rd-graders, who openly speaks of school being “hard,” learned to swim & won a multiplication contest in his class just this week. Additionally, several K-2 students learned to advocate for themselves when they needed an emotional time-out. In HIS word, God promises that if we believe and say “YES” to Him, HE will lead us, giving us a “hope and a future.”

THANK YOU FOR GROWING HOPE!

Year after year, we could not do this work without you. Your partnership opens our doors every day, allows our students to hear about the love of God and provides educational opportunities that transform their futures. We want to say thank you to all of our supporters, partners and volunteers for empowering Hope Academy GSO to be the hands and feet of Christ to our community of Greensboro, NC. It takes all of us to make this work happen and we are blessed to be serving alongside you.

You can hear the sound of worship from the parking lot as over 150 students and staff join together first thing each Monday morning for Chapel at HOPE. It is a special and sacred time. Before one book is opened, one lesson is taught, or one pencil is sharpened, we gather to shake off the weekend and remind ourselves of who we are and why we’re here. We worship the God who declares we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that He has a purpose for our lives. As the sanctuary fills with song, dance, prayer and God’s word, pressures and stress from outside the walls of Hope Academy begin to fade into a sense of peace.

Transforming Futures

Hope Academy GSO would not exist without the generosity of so many community partners. This is one example. Wolfe Homes has gathered some of their partners to provide affordable renovations for changing older church space into new and approved classroom space for future grades. We are deeply grateful to Wolfe Homes and their partners for supporting Hope Academy in such a creative and helpful way.

Thank you to the following businesses for their contributions and support: Pete Wall Plumbing, Carpet One, Ferguson, DARI Corp., Smith Phillips, and Central Carolina Interiors.
