Business Club Lunch
Speakers: 18th April 2024
The Spring Business Club lunch speakers are Hope’s very own Office Manager Barbara North who will be reflecting on her personal journey and her experiences of a nineteen year adventure with the charity, and Dr Tim Rattay – Consultant Breast Surgeon at University Hospitals of Leicester and Associate Professor in the Leicester Cancer Research Centre.
Dr Rattay’s work focuses on the development of personalised breast cancer treatment and uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to approach real world data.
AI analysis has the potential to revolutionise individual care through an understanding of how different people will respond to different treatment, and the risks involved.
With such precision tools at researcher’s disposal the era of “one size fits all” treatment for cancer could be limited…

Sponsorship for new patient bags at the Hope Cancer Trials Centre
As part of the care provided by the Hope Cancer Trials Centre, people on clinical trials receive bundles of information to help them and their families understand the processes and their personal treatment.
This information is placed into a water-proof canvas bag so that it all remains safe, together and is easily accessible.
Hope Against Cancer provide these bags and our latest consignment of 300 bags was generously sponsored, printed and shipped by Hotline Promotional Products.
We are extremely grateful for their kindness and support.

Meet the Leaders at the Hope Cancer Trials Centre
Following the retirement of Prof Anne Thomas, Dr Harriet Walter, Associate Professor of Medical Oncology and Honorary Consultant Medical Oncologist, took over the role as Director of the Hope Cancer Trials Centre in June 2023.
Harriet told us that “it is a really exciting time at the Hope Centre, and we are looking forward to working closely with Hope Against Cancer to deliver our research ambitions”.
Joining Harriet is Amy King, the centre’s new Operations Director. Amy’s focus is on delivering the complex research portfolio with the team.
Both Amy and Harriet are extremely driven in making sure that together we move cancer research forward and ensure that, wherever possible, treatment opportunities are available to local people, and beyond.

Hope at the Signature awards: London 2023
In September 2023 Hope Against Cancer was invited to the glittering Signature Awards at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane as the events chosen charity.
It was a huge honour to join this prestigious black-tie evening where Nachural connected and celebrated the best in British Business.
We were also kindly supported by our friends at Lumbers Jewellers, Soar Valley Press and A-Star Experience who, between them, donated their time and other precious items to help increase our fundraising potential at the event.
Nachural is a publisher, music label and events production team that operates in the entrepreneurial space. Their events are held nationally and their vision is to encourage start-up culture, to celebrate wealth creators and to provide networking opportunities.
Their business publication, The Business Influencer Magazine, is now available globally.
On the 12th April 2024, Hope Against Cancer was once again privileged to be the organisation’s chosen charity, this time for the Nachural Entrepreneurship Awards held at the King Power Stadium.
Thank you once again to Ninder Johal DL, Nachural and to all their guests for the incredible support. hopeagainstcancer.org.uk/donate

Thank you for all your support, sponsorship and generosity...
In 2023 we benefited greatly from the support of Danaher and Walsh and Leicester Racecourse as their Charity of the Year.
We were proud to be part of some amazing events that took place at Leicester Racecourse, including a wonderful race-day and excellent fireworks display.
Such continuous support throughout the year ensured a continuity of fundraising and ensured the continuity of support for the research and care we fund.
Our 2023 Opera Evening was held in the stunning setting of Lumbers Jewellers and our headline sponsors for this magnificent event were Pick Everard and Marsh and Company.
The brochure was kindly designed and produced by Juice Creative Design Limited.
The beautiful food was provided by Zest.
And the silent auction took place courtesy of A-Star Experiences, along with a lovely boat trip donated by John Edgar from North Kilworth Wharf.
A special mention must go to Tommy Reid and Alex Daly for their persistence, dedication and energy in realising and promoting the single – which was extremely well received. We
The Hope Christmas single was supported by so many businesses and supporters that we do not have the space to name them all here. If you did take part, please know that we are extremely grateful for all your efforts.

Our latest awareness campaign, a campaign to have Hope branding and links to our website spread across Leicestershire and Rutland was given a huge boost by the kindness of Everards of Leicestershire.
We had a Hope beermat designed and Everards then shipped 10,000 out to 85 of their establishments throughout the region. This has helped to increase knowledge of Hope and our support of local cancer research.
To celebrate their 21st birthday Kazzoo IT Solutions are throwing a “Pink Tie Charity Ball,” at Winstanley House on 3rd May.
The event is supporting three amazing local charities: Hope Against Cancer, Alex’s Wish - Cure Duchenne, and Leicester Hospitals Charity.
Kazzoo also support us by including our branding on their annual calendars and they have their own golf day on 28th June where they will be fundraising for Hope.
You may have seen that Hope Against Cancer has our branding displayed on a van which is often on the move throughout Leicestershire and Rutland.
The van belongs to our tireless Corporate and Community Partnerships Manager Tim and the branding was generously sponsored by Signs Express.

Meet HOPE’s wonderful nurses –Edyta Bielecka and Sharon Chibi
Edyta:
“
I have been working as an Oncology Research Nurse at the Hope Cancer Trials Centre for a few years now.
It is wonderful to see that some of the drugs that we have used in the clinical research setting have shown such an improvement in patient outcomes that they are now available outside of trials, and that I have been part of this journey.
I am proud to be part of the ground-breaking work here in Leicester. I really enjoy being able to deliver personalised care, and although the work is busy and demanding, I always feel like I am learning! ”
I have been working as a Haematology Research Nurse in the Myeloma team since November 2022.
I have really enjoyed the challenges and the opportunities that this has brought. I have felt well supported and I have been able to expand my skills and my knowledge.
I am involved in scheduling patient visits and procedures and administering treatments.
I am proud to deliver the care that we give, we work to the highest standards of professionalism, teamwork, empathy, and compassion.
Working in the Hope Trials Centre has shown me just how important clinical research is in driving medical progress. The science behind it is just amazing! ”
