library update NCPL adds some hoopla to Exploration Destination The North Canton Public Library (NCPL) of Ohio featured hoopla during the 2014 Main Street Festival hosted by the North Canton Chamber of Commerce on August 16th. Partnering at the event with NCPL, whose theme for the festival was Exploration Destination, we found the street festival and the hoopla booth to both be well attended. The hoopla team was invited by the wonderful staff at NCPL to join their tent and help spread the word about hoopla to the community. We were excited to find out that the theme of the event for NCPL was Exploration Destination. It was the perfect fit with one of hoopla’s primary goals: to provide library partners and their patrons with a digital delivery model that expands exploration potential, and the possibilities available in the choice of movies, music, and more.
The hoopla crew stayed busy all day introducing hoopla to community members, while also helping people to browse the collections on the app. The hoopla team was able to sign up 70+ new users — all of whom were placed in a drawing for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite. Plus, the NCPL was also able to sign up several new patrons, and renew many existing patrons’ library cards. (And certainly, today, that one lucky winning patron is now using their grand prize to access hoopla!)
Community members were very interested to learn about hoopla and what the platform has to offer. “Completely free to use through the library” caught real attention, with some new users bringing back other family members to sign up for their own hoopla account! After patrons signed up, we gave each a quick run through on how to borrow content and demonstrating hoopla’s ease-of-use features. All in all, with a marching band playing, kids’ dance party, and crowded funnel cake stands, the day was fun and successful for everyone. library update | 1
