As 2015 comes to a close, we find ourselves looking back on the past year in service to you with great memories, and look forward to creating even more in the next. In reflecting on your enthusiasm for all you do in engaging patrons through new ideas, and in ways that let them participate fully in today’s cultural and digital revolution, we see your passion as our own.

During the Holiday Season, your passion for fulfilling patron wishes is especially evident. It’s always such a ‘magical’ time of year at the library, and we want to help you celebrate its magic with a look at what hoopla has for the Holidays. That’s why on the cover of our second annual “Holidays on hoopla” publication dedicated to you, and to your patrons, you’ll find that we’ve called it the “Look Book 2015” for a good reason.

This Holiday Season we’re especially excited to be able to provide you the means to give your patrons the perfect gift: choice, in the form of their favorite formats and favorite Holiday titles. What better way to celebrate the magic of the season with patrons than with a library of seasonal shelves that are never empty – a place where they can find exactly what they want, when they want, to help make their Holidays magical in whatever way they choose.

As the world around us all becomes more mobile, our holiday wish for your patrons this year is for their delight in taking their library with them in the form of movies, music, audiobooks, eBooks, comics, and TV shows, to wherever the Holiday Season finds them.

Tech the Halls 2015 Once again, the Holidays for 2015 promise to bring out gizmos and gadgetry galore and, as we all know, nothing beats the feeling of having and showing friends and family your latest in tech wizardry. As the season approaches, and with so many items on wish lists, it’s tough to know one from the other, and what they all can do.

So, with all these newly gifted gadgets, we want to present a few answers you might pass on to patrons over this Holiday Season...and put another feather on your Holiday Hero hat.

How to be a patron “Superhero” With a deluge of superhero and comic book titles for 2015 and beyond, the hoopla digital mobile app has you covered.

Tablets are highly sought-after for their screen real estate, and smartphones keep getting bigger, too. In addition, check out the works from prestigious publishers like DC Comics and Image Comics, along with top indie publishers such as Dark Horse Comics, IDW, and Boom! Studios.

Add volume to Holiday gatherings

Getting hoopla on the big screen Many will likely receive a new streaming device this year, such as a Chromecast or Apple TV. These devices specialize in streaming content directly over the internet to the television. Chromecast is a HDMI-enabled dongle that allows users to “Cast” content from their smartphone/tablet/computer to their TV. Chromecast is a great complementary device for someone owning a connected device. It makes that device a remote control when using a Chromecast. It’s important to note that casting content does require an active internet connection and a connected device. This is a setup that many people already have and don’t yet realize!

This Holiday Season, with the latest hoopla digital mobile apps, users can wirelessly connect their device to their Chromecast to view hoopla content on their TVs. This feature has been frequently requested, and is now a reality!

And yes, we continue to support Airplay Mirroring, when using an Apple TV and iOS device.

Bluetooth speakers have quickly become the new speaker dock or boom box; essentially the new way to share music with those around you. These speakers wirelessly pair with a device to provide a louder and better sound than a smartphone or tablet can provide.

Setup is usually pretty simple. Enable Bluetooth pairing mode on both your speaker and your device. After pairing is complete, use any audio app to play audio through the speaker instead of your phone. Partygoers will be thankful they don’t have to crowd around one person with a phone to hear music!

What about non-mobile users?

Chromebooks are entry-level computers that allow users to access web-based content (like digital streaming content), browse the web, or send e-mail on a budget. These computers may not have a lot “under the hood,” but for many casual users, a Chromebook is a great alternative.
