MANGAKAHIA LIONS CLUB

Mangakahia Lions have continued to be active in the community and at their meetings.

In late September the Mangakahia Valley Schools Year 8 Speech Contest was held with entrants from Tangiteroria, Kokopu and Maungatapere Schools. There were 6 speakers on a range of topics with the winner being Addison Wood from Maungatapere School. The top 3 places of Addison, Heidi Shepherd and Dilan Brown were invited to speak at our October Lions Dinner Meeting.

On the 5th November we hosted our Lions Cabinet as the 19 Lions Leaders held their quarterly Cabinet Meeting at The Mangakahia Sports Complex. Mangakahia Lions Members provided them with morning tea and lunch.

Our major Lions project over the last month has been firewood splitting, which has happened a couple of Wednesday mornings at a property in Maungatapere, but because of the recent very wet weather, most of our working bees have been cancelled as the wood pile is under water.

Our Lions Country Meal on Friday 11 November was well supported even though the Mangakahia Area had been flooded with torrential rain the night before. The lolly scramble and the magician, Mike Easterbrook were a real hit.

We look forward to hosting the Senior Citizens Xmas Luncheon for Senior Mangakahia Residents past and present at The Sports Complex on Friday 9 December. Anyone who knows of any senior residents, past or present who have not been invited, please contact me with names and details to add to our list. It is always a great gathering of Mangakahia people who may not have seen one another for some time.

Our Lions motto is “WE SERVE”

If you know of a way that we as Lions can serve or assist in the Mangakahia Community, please let us know. Something we want to do is build a stronger relationship with our schools and help out where we can in that area.

Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to you all.
