FELLOW CATTLEMEN –

Welcome and thank you for your interest in our program and our 43rd production sale! This sale is the culmination of another year’s worth of work and preparation, and we are excited to share the fruits of those labors with you.

Before we lay out the offering in this year’s catalog we wanted to bring back an advertisement from the past that we had answering the question of:

A strict adherence to our breeding philosophy based on functionality. For our commercial bull customers to be successful, they need cattle that have structural soundness, good feet, body and mass, and fertility. Mating decisions are made with a focus on our replacement females, as we live longer with those females than their bull mates. Our priority is to produce females that breed up in a 45 day breeding program, and that possess ideal udder quality and teat size.

The bulls utilized in our breeding program have either been raised in our own herd or are bulls that we own. We don’t use the “bull of the month,” but rather find the bulls that check all of the boxes in our breeding philosophy and include them in our herd battery. The results of this long term breeding program have been cattle with consistent phenotypes, and the longevity to remain in the herd and keep our operation sustainable.

We thought that statement was worth sharing again, and we hope that as you study this offering that you find that the cattle fit that statement of philosophy.

We couldn’t be more proud of the set of bulls that we have on offer this year, and although we know it may be cliché to say, we truly feel like it is the deepest set of bulls from front to back that we have ever offered. There will be several new sire groups in the offering this year with sons of SAV Thrust, E&B Flinthills, and some of the first sons of Coleman Platinum to be offered anywhere in the country. Brad Arrowsmith will again be bringing a good set of coming 2 year old Red and Black Angus bulls, representing genetics and a breeding philosophy similar to our own. Make sure to check those bulls out, cataloged after our bulls and before the female offering.

The dispersal of the spring bred females will be highlighted by females carrying the service of our up and coming herd sires Coleman Platinum, Voss Liberty, as well as the rare service of 2S Sharpie, who’s semen averaged over $700/straw in recent auctions.

How to Bid Online SALE details

Interstate health papers will be furnished with every animal selling. Cow herd and bulls are on a complete herd health program. Bulls sell as guaranteed breeders and semen tested. Females have been ultrasounded and sell guaranteed bred however, ultrasound information listed presents the calving dates to the best of our knowledge and is not a guarantee of either AI or pasture breeding.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms for the sale are cash. Cattle will sell under the suggested terms and conditions of the American Angus Association. All persons attending the sale do so at their own risk. TK Angus assumes no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents that may occur. In the unlikely event that any animals shall be proven to be defective, damages resulting from their use shall be limited to their purchase price.

WINTERING

Wintering arrangements are available at cost ($500 per bull) until March 15th, 2025. Insurance is suggested on all bulls wintered at TK Angus. Bulls will be wintered at the buyers risk. Insurance is suggested but not required.

If you are unable to attend we highly recommend reaching out to Tim, Rick, or any of the representatives listed in the catalog to assist you on sale day. Online bidding is available through DV Auction; however we have had customers in the past indicate that internet lag issues have caused them to miss out on purchases. Being on the phone, or leaving a bid with a sale representative will help to alleviate the potential for this issue to occur.

VIEWING . To watch and bid online, simply complete the following steps. Go to www.dvauction.com and create a new account. DVAuction will contact you once you have been approved to bid. They will not provide a buyer number until you have purchased a lot in the sale and that number is only usable for our sale. High speed internet access is required to be able to bid successfully during the sale.

PROXY BIDDING . Follow the instructions above and as the sale date nears, there will be a Proxy Bidding button underneath the sale name on the DVAuction website. You can then place your maximum bid and the system will represent your bid just as if you were there.

FIRST BREEDING SEASON GUARANTEE

Bulls selling for $4,000 or more will be eligible for a credit if they are injured during the first breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turn out of the bull. All bulls selling for $4,000 or more will be given 50% of the value of the injured bull - value defined as purchase price minus $2,500 salvage - as credit in a future sale or toward a replacement bull if one is available. Credit may be used on the purchase of a single bull the following year . All injured bulls must be diagnosed by a veterinarian. Please notify TK Angus as soon as possible should injury occur and prior to the injured bull being sold. A copy of the sales receipt must be received by TK Angus to receive proper credit. All claims must be made by September 1, 2026. Credit will be used towards the purchase of ONE bull in the next TK Angus sale.

Example 1: A $6,000 bull is injured and will not heal ($6,000-$2,500) x 50% = $1,750 credit will be given.

Example 2: A $2,750 bull is injured and will not heal. No credit is given. Buyer retains all salvage value.

This is not a mortality insurance policy nor does it cover mismanagement or neglect. We do not cover injuries sustained prior to the breeding season if your TK Angus bull is turned out with other bulls. We highly recommend insuring your purchase after the sale as this will protect your investment in the event of injury prior to the first breeding season.

The focus of our breeding program has always been centered around the mother cow, and the most important tool we use has always been a sorting stick. We base our breeding decisions and sire selections on phenotype and real world numbers; weaning weights and ratios, fertility (calving interval, scrotal circumference), and “traits of convenience” such as udder quality, foot and leg structure, and disposition. All of these are measurements and indicators of traits that make our commercial bull customers profitable and sustainable from generation to generation.

We strive to produce a highly consistent product and aim to provide quality bulls for the marketplace. One of the best compliments we have ever received came from two respected cattlemen on separate tours through the bulls:

“I will just take a gate cut out of all these bulls!”

We cut half of our bull calf crop on a yearly basis. Bottom line, we have done the sorting already, there is quality from top to bottom in this offering.

We put intense pressure on the bulls that are included in our annual sale. 50% of our bull calf crop on a yearly basis ends up in the feedlot being fed out as steers so that we can see firsthand how our genetics are performing all the way to the rail.

This spring 135 head of those steers that didn’t make the bull sale graded out at 69.5% CAB, and 18.5% Prime, with 100% grading Choice or better. Of note, those steers sold as verified NHTC, and that NHTC verification amounted to a $268/head premium. A premium that paid out on 100% of the cattle, regardless of grade.

Most Angus cattle marble well, there is no need to select for extreme carcass merit at the expense of fertility, foot quality, and function that comes with single trait selection for extreme high marbling.

This bull uses an extra rib worth of length to pack a tremendous amount of muscle, mass, and performance in an ideal frame. He smashed our herd performance records posting an adjusted weaning weight of 971lbs, and then followed it with a 1650lb actual yearling weight. He is exceptionally soft in his design and moves out well. He posted a big scrotal measurement of 41.5cm, and stands on a good set of feet and legs. Importantly, the bottom side of his pedigree is exceptionally strong. WINTERING ARRANGEMENTS

If you are unable to take delivery of your bull purchase after the sale, wintering arrangements are available at a cost of $500/bull. However, the challenge of keeping this many bulls together and injury free through the course of the winter is difficult. We would highly recommend getting the bulls home to your own environment. The only way that we have found to keep the bulls somewhat pacified is to push the feed to them. This is not a strategy that benefits the longevity of the bull. We suggest putting the bulls with your spring bred cows in the calving lot as this provides them with adequate protection and “TLC” for a yearling bull until spring. Insurance is suggested but not required.

A quick note about our offering. They are about as old school as you can raise bulls. They are wintered on a high roughage, “keep’em alive” diet, summered on grass, and then sent to the lot in early September. The bulls aren’t touched, trimmed, or pampered in any way. They are sound, grown, and will have enough condition by sale day to express their true genetic potential.

As you will see in the catalog, there are many Purple (Black red-gene carriers) in the offering. As much as either the Red or the Black world may wish to deny

each other’s existence, they both NEED EACH OTHER for genetic variation. There is no other way to introduce NEW ANGUS genetics to either breed without crossing the color barrier. Period. Yes, I get the color resistance in some markets, but the red discount is not the same everywhere, and there are a number of feeders that vigorously source Reds, even in small packages. Buy on quality, capitalize on value, and put some within-the-breed heterosis in your pocket while saving yourself $$$ on the purchase price. If anyone has questions about how the red gene deal works, by all means call me! I’ve been playing with purples since 1995.
