The Bartels Family would like to personally invite you to join us on St. Patricks Day, Tuesday, March 17th for our annual production sale. We are excited for you to evaluate this years bull crop. I can say with confidence, this years bull crop is the best we’ve ever produced with outstanding bulls throughout.
With the current cattle market, it’s a great time to be in the business, and those who own the inventory will be rewarded. Record-high markets over the past year have brought renewed optimism across the industry and tight supplies give us hope that this trend is long-term. We are proud to offer bulls that can help our customers position themselves for the bright future ahead.
This offering reflects our commitment to produce balanced, functional bulls that work in a variety of conditions. The mother cow will always be at the forefront of our design, and every individual selling descends from a cow and cow family we are proud of. From the pasture to the feedlot, every mating is made with profitability and convenience in mind.
We know this is a busy time of year for everyone, and while we always enjoy visiting with our customers in person, we also understand that not everyone can make it. For that reason, we have provided multiple ways to participate in the sale, including online options through LiveAg and DV Auction.
We value the time spent before the sale discussing your herds needs and goals and welcome you to the ranch anytime to evaluate the bulls and females. We thank you for your interest and love to talk cattle, so feel free to call anytime.

We are proud to offer an outstanding set of yearling bulls ready to elevate your herd. These powerful bulls combine proven fertility, structural soundness, and strong performance genetics for both commercial and registered operations. Among them are numerous herd sire candidates ready to become the next generation of cornerstone sires for progressive operations.

Recommended for heifers or cows. An elite prospect here. This bull checks all the boxes putting him in rare air among calving ease bulls. It’s hard to find this combination of data when you consider calving ease, docility, heifer pregnancy, longevity, metabolic efficiency, mature size, and carcass merit. Walk him around the pen and you will appreciate his outstanding phenotype and structure. Scan data solidifies his ability to produce high valued, heavy carcass weight steers. Maternal brother to Bartels Navigator and Bartels Big Easy among others.

Poss Ultra was the lead off and top selling bull of the 2024 Poss sale. We purchased an interest in Poss Ultra along with Bernard Kamphaus and GMC Genetics. His first sons have taken the industry by storm averaging over $40,000 at Poss’s. The Ultra progeny are ultra-thick, long sided, and full of red meat. Ultra is one of the elite bulls in the breed when considering his combination of calving ease, growth, carcass merit, and maternal
power. We had the pleasure of walking Ultra natural service this past spring and were impressed with his quiet, friendly disposition, and ultra-high libido. We also appreciate his ability to make male and female progeny equally well. The Ultra females are outstanding. Look for Ultra to be a staple here for years to come.

DAM’S WWR 1@112. Recommended for large framed heifers or cows. One of my favorite bulls. When we bought into Ultra our goal was to merge his elite calving ease and carcass merit with our herds nuts, butts, and guts-that is exactly what we got here. Dam is an elite young female.

Ultra progeny are Ultraattractive! Outstanding bulls in this flush. Dam is a larger framed Investment daughter that earned her way into the donor pen the old-fashioned way. By using older, proven cows in our ET program, we have enhanced the longevity and productivity of our cow herd. Flush sister sells as lot 97.

Musgrave Jumbo is a proven sire that’s not only calving ease but adds a world of performance, body mass, and muscle shape in a sharp package. In the flesh Jumbo is one of the most impressive bulls you will see. His first daughters in production are making outstanding cows.

VAR Conclusion, an ABS bull, is a grandson of the Pathfinder Bartels Angus sire KCF Bennett Consent Y75. Conclusion sons are heifer safe, well made, and quiet. The first wet daughters here are top notch.

DAM’S WWR 5@103. Recommended for heifers or cows. This Conclusion son carries a little more frame than average. He’s a heifer bull with horsepower. Maternal brother to Big Easy and Navigator.
Long ago in a classroom in Lincoln at the University of Nebraska, they told us that every pound of birthweight transmits to seven pounds of weaning weight. In today’s market, that’s a lot of money. If that math holds true, an 80 pound calf will generally wean 70 pounds heavier than a 70 pound calf. Five weight steers are currently bringing over $3/pound. That extra birthweight can be worth over $200/ head. Remember that a 6 BW EPD in Angus is equivalent to a Simmental 4.1 and a Charolais -0.4 according to across breed EPDs from USMARC in Clay Center, NE.

We purchased Connealy Eclipse in the spring of 2024. After sorting through almost 600 bulls, we identified Eclipse as the bull to move our program forward. His outstanding phenotype and data made him a great addition to the program and he has greatly surpassed our expectations. Eclipse progeny are long bodied with excellent depth of rib. They possess great feet, a quiet disposition, and plenty of pounds in an average sized package. Eclipse progeny are below average for birth weight, and above average for weaning weight, yearling weight, marbling, and rib eye area in our herd against stiff competition. He bred a large group of heifers here last year and will again this summer.

We believe Bartels Eclipse 5205 is one of the elite calving ease bulls to sell this spring season. Take the time to really comb through the data on this bull. His elite level EPDS and $ indexes make him an easy choice on paper. Add in outstanding real-world data, and diversity of pedigree and it is easy to see this bull fills a lot of holes. As you walk 5205 around the pen he is admired for his fluidity of movement, robust middle and raw power, and clean lines.
Actual IMF% of 8.07 to ratio 227 and actual rib eye area of 18.2 to ratio 127 on a scan weight of 1315.
His dam is an elite female. We added her to the donor program last year and have calves on the ground now. She also has flush brothers scattered around the country working at numerous seedstock operations. The Elmay cow family is one of the premier cow families on the ranch. The $78,000 Bartels Bonanza and the $80,000 Bartels Columbus 310 both descend from this cow family. We will be using this bull back in our registered program as well as in commercial heifers we will sell this fall.

This flush of bulls is impressive. They are dimensional, long body, and heavy in a right sized package. Hard to pick a favorite among these flush brothers. Dam is a pathfinder cow we purchased from Knoll Crest several years ago. The Contrast daughters are among the best old cows we’ve had, and Z405 is top of the class.

DAM’S WWR 2@110. Recommended for heifers. Outstanding performance and data on yet another Eclipse son. This bull checks all the boxes! Dam is a perfectly made Fair-N-Square daughter from the Elisha line. The Elisha derivatives excel for longevity, fertility, and foot structure among other things.

DAM’S WWR 1@105. Recommended for large framed heifers or cows. This bull is a bit younger, but we think he has a ton of potential. He gets better every day.

Validation was the leadoff and high selling bull from the 2024 Connealy spring sale. He sires unmatched base and width of skeleton, excellent feet, and a quiet disposition. The cattle look to be moderate framed and efficient producers. We used this bull again and will have more progeny from him next year.

Marra of Conanga 7745
DAM’S WWR 2@98. Recommended for cows. Complete in every way. This outstanding bull, like most Validation sons, has plenty of base width and a deep quarter, and lots of length in a right sized package. He sports impressive scan data also. Dam is an easy fleshing, dense made female.

These flush brothers are long bodied, and smooth made with plenty of rib, shape and base width. Dam is a moderate made Asset daughter with a picture perfect udder.

EZAR Gettysburg sires impressive phenotype with power and performance. Progeny are long bodied with internal dimension. If you sell fat cattle on the grid, look here.

We got just a few straws of Gettysburg later in our breeding season but were able to plug him into two elite donors. We had chosen the 8096 cow to carry forward the Cappa family name. Her lineage is known for deep bodied, forage converting type females, with wide muzzles and quiet dispositions. These bulls have gas in the tank and will raise market topping feeder cattle.
Elite data on these Gettysburg sons. They look the part as well. They are clean made and attractive. Dam is an impressive Powerpoint daughter.

LAR Man In Black sires tremendous base width and muscle with exceptional substance, rib shape, and length of body. With data on over 6,000 registered angus progeny turned in, he continues to be widely used by those looking for pounds in a phenotypically attractive package.
An outstanding flush of Man in Black sons. Hard to find a hole in these long sided, attractive bulls.

We emphasize the carcass weight EPD. We feel like carcass weight is the most honest measurement of an animals yearling potential. If you really dig into the data, generally as birthweight goes up so does carcass weight and red meat yield. In the next three to five years the way they

Maternal design still reigns supreme and every bull we sell comes from a female we would be proud to show you. We think every bull in the offering has a chance to improve these aspects of your herd.

His bold phenotype, generous growth, and outcross pedigree make this a bull that is right for the times. We hope you appreciate these sons as much as we do. The heifer mates are top-notch.

This flush is full of herd bulls that will catch your eye. They carry a deep hip, a clean front, and a smooth, attractive look. Their donor dam is dense made with a big middle and a wide muzzle. The Cappa cow family consistently produces some of our top performers.

On Friday, July 11, 2025, World War II Veteran Gerald Bartels was presented with a recognition medal by VFW State Commander Kenneth Yount and American Legion State Commander Judy Walters. It reads “On Behalf of a Grateful State, Thank You for Your Service” with the 48-star flag of 1946. The ceremony is part of an initiative launched by the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs to honor Nebraska’s living World War II veterans. The recognition is given to living veterans who applied and served in the U.S. Armed Forces from December 1, 1941, to December 31, 1946. Gerald proudly served in the United States Marines.

Ellingson Progressive sires extra stoutness, fleshing ability, and structural correctness. He is also a foot and udder improver. The first daughters here have calved and have some of the best udder structure we’ve seen. Regardless of what stage of life they are in, the Progressive cattle are always impressive.

Prosper was the top selling bull in the spring 2024 Ellingson sale and for good reason. This outstanding bull sires dense bodied, slick haired, robust made sons. They have excellent performance, an ideal growth curve, and quiet dispositions. The Prosper daughters look to be excellent range cows with plenty of middle and ideal frame. Prosper will be one of the highest use bulls in the breed again this spring.

We also want to take an opportunity to say “Thank You” to our family and our great crew. Craig and I are blessed to be surrounded by a great group of guys that always jump into whatever the project is. Eric Antholz and Dan Marks have been here since I was in kindergarten! They handle the day-to-day operations of our crop operation and much of the mechanic work we have. Chris Goebel is our Jack of all trades and handles everything from calving and breeding to haying and irrigating. Kasey Ord is our livestock specialist and manages the feedlot and much of the chute work around breeding season. He also helps with some of the haying duties and much of the grain handling.
Those of you in this business also know the time commitment involved, and we know we couldn’t do it without the help and support of our families. Craig and I also want to take a moment to say Thank You to our wives and kids, as well as our parents. The support and help they give is immeasurable and we are thankful for it every day!

This flush of Prosper sons has been fun to watch. We flushed their prototypical dam at 9 years of age after earning her way to the top the hard way. She is a long-bodied, moderately made Final Product daughter with excellent udder quality, depth of body, and maternal instincts. She also has stuck AI the first time every year. We think this mating has a lot of promise, both building robust, heavy made, market topping males, as well as long lasting, fertile females with all the intangibles stockmen appreciate. Full sister sells as lot 95.

This group of bulls is exclusively ET calves or natural calves from our ET donor cows. We selected many of the best cows we own to produce this set of bullet-proof age advantaged bulls. The genetic merit of these bulls is outstanding and we feel that they have the ability to move most any cow herd ahead in multiple areas. Buy with confidence and use them hard. Their progeny will have tremendous value.

DL Zoom was a bull I found at Nebraska Bull Service while picking up a bull on collection. His power, mobility, foot structure, and length made him a bull I had to use. These sons are impressive and are out of some outstanding females. Look here if you sell by the pound.

Use your own judgement but we think these flush brothers will likely be fine on larger heifers. Their massively constructed dam has a birthweight ratio of 93 on her numerous natural calves yet bends the curve to earn a 110 weaning ratio. She is a direct daughter of the Elmay Exec 4003 donor, and a maternal sister to Bartels Resilient 145 who topped our sale in 2022, and Bartels Bonanza who topped our sale in 2021. We appreciate this flush of bulls for their mass, dimension, and fleshing ability. Their flush sisters are top-notch.

Dam of Lot 84-85 - Elmay Exec 2005 6537 Bartels

Use your own judgement but we think these flush brothers will likely be fine on large heifers. The 2005 cow at the age of 14 is still producing here with a natural calf at side currently. As you follow many pedigrees in this book, her influence is undeniable. As a cornerstone of our program, her offspring have set the tone producing calving ease genetics that bend the curve and excel in every economically relevant trait a stockman needs to be profitable.

I was asked once by a new customer “What’s your breeding philosophy? What sets your program apart from the rest?” Now I’ve never been much for “catch phrases” or “sales words” but I told the customer “We’re pretty black and white around here. Our goal is to help our customers Keep It Between The Ditches”. Sounds simple right? “Keep it between the ditches”. In reality, running this program is the most time consuming, complicated thing we do. Just ask my wife. But what it really means is this: Every day we are bombarded from every direction with news, information, and to be honest, a lot of B.S. It is our job to sift through all that noise to make your life easier and your herd more profitable.
The hallmarks of our herd are good cattle that excel first in fertility, both bulls and females. Open cows are expensive. Live calves on the ground are crucial. Mothering ability, calf vigor, and the ability to keep that calf alive until weaning are hard to measure. Yet they are some of the intangibles we watch every day. For example, we’ve eliminated entire sire groups because we lost confidence in the female progeny’s colostrum quality. But we don’t quit once we get that calf weaned. Every animal here stays until they become someone else’s breeding stock or enter the food chain. There’s a lot of time to learn about your genetics between weaning and final destination. We make the notes and implement changes to ensure that throughout the entire production cycle, you have a smooth ride with our genetics.
I have always had a balanced approach to our herd. Extremes make averages but we won’t be a part of those extremes. Fifteen years ago, my family only ran a commercial angus herd. Having grown up on commercial cows, I would like to think our approach to the seedstock business is different from most. When you call myself or my brother you are talking to the managers, the laborers, and the grunts. The guy that makes this catalog also tags the calves, feeds the bulls and the fat cattle, breeds the females, and watches the business. Simply put, we run like most of you. That being said, we don’t get caught up in the numbers, the pedigrees, or the next best thing. It is our approach to breed cattle that make your life easier. Lower your blood pressure you might say. Bad attitudes, poor fertility, bad udders, and high maintenance cattle don’t make it here.
If you take one thing away from our program we want it to be this: We are here for you! We promise to continually work hard to make our cattle and in turn, your cattle better and more profitable. And will always be a resource for help improving your cattle, marketing your cattle, and being a listening ear.
