Achievement Day Results

On Monday 7/31, during the NCM Fair, 4-H members exhibited projects and participated in conference judging at the Rock Barn for 4-H Achievement Day. It is an event where 4-H youth can bring pieces or projects they have been working on throughout the year and discuss with judges the lessons learned through “doing”. County 4-H achievement day offers 4-H and Clover Kid members opportunities to showcase what they learned in their 4-H projects.

4-H entries are awarded ribbons using the Danish placing system: Blue, Red, White. Blue ribbon entries are eligible for selection for the Missouri State Fair. Clover Kid entries are awarded Clover Kid participation ribbons.

Achievement day includes project exhibits and conference judging and is open to all 4-H youth members and “Clover Kid” participants aged 5-18 years old.

For Grundy County Achievement Day, there were 17 4-H members who submitted projects for judging and exhibiting. Those exhibitors brought a total of 62 projects to share and display throughout the week with the NCM fair-goers. Of those displays 42 were awarded blue, 17 red and 3 Clover kid participation ribbons. Eight “Best of Show” awards were also granted to exceptional exhibits. Of the projects displayed, 27 qualified to be submitted into the Missouri State Fair, although only 2 may be entered per member. After some difficult decisions, 18 were sent to the State Fair and will be on display from

August 10-20 in the 4-H Building at Sedalia, MO.

The judges consisted of several amazing area community members who volunteered to help at the event: Betty Moore, Morgan Duff, Denise Hamilton, Sarah Allen, Latorrie Johnson and Babe Roy. Fair board members and 4-H families also helped to plan and prep to make sure the area was set up and ready to “rock” as well as supervise the Rock Barn and displays during the fair with special mentions to Carol Ausberger, Andy Burress, the Dixons, Bowes, Lowreys, Williams, Bethards, Maloneys, Mary Johnson and many others. Several employees of MU Extension attended to also assist the 4-H personnel with the event: Stacey Steffens, Chelsea Corkins, Micah Potgieter and Scott Finley. We are so thankful for all the 4-H families, youth, judges, MU Extension professionals, and the fair board members for helping to make this event be successful and continue the traditions of 4-H in the area, and helping Grundy County continue to embody the fair theme of “Our Roots Run Deep”.
