AI help wanted

The rise of the type of artificial intelligence behind chatbots like ChatGPT is generating new jobs.

Companies are racing to take advantage of the technology, creating an opening in the job market for workers with the right skills. It underscores how general purpose AI systems have the potential to transform much of the right AI skills amid a wider tech slump. daily life, including careers.

Job postings in the U.S. and Britain mentioning “generative AI” have surged since the start of last year, though the overall number is still small, according to data from Adzuna, a search engine for job ads.

That flicker of optimism is overshadowed by gloom in the wider tech sector, which has seen sweeping layoffs amid economic turbulence following years of growth.

Adzuna figures show that job ads mentioning AI in general have fallen over the past year, tracking a broader drop in tech postings.
