BRIEFS Community Blood Drives
Community Blood Center (CBC) recently joined blood centers across the country in an emergency plea for blood donors following a holiday season of low donor turnout and recent winter weather that resulted in widespread cancellation of appointments and blood drives. Additionally, a recent spike in seasonal illnesses across the region is preventing many from donating. There are two blood drives scheduled for the Trenton area next week for those who are interested in donationg. A drive will be held Monday, January 29 from 12-6 p.m. at the North 65 Center, 2901 Hoover Drive in Trenton. Then on Tuesday, January 30, a drive will be held from 2-6 p.m. in the gymnasium at Pleasant View R-6 School, 128 SE 20th Street, Trenton. Anyone wishing to make a donation is asked to call 877-468-6844, or visit savealifenow.org to make an appointment.
Grundy Co. Republicans to Meet
Grundy County Republicans will meet Monday, January 29 at 6 p.m. at the Grundy County Courthouse first floor courtroom to plan the Presidential Caucus to be held March 2, 2024. Other events for the election year will be discussed. All office holders, central committee members and interested Republicans are welcome to attend.
GCHD Baby Shower
The Grundy County Health Department will host a baby shower for new and expecting mothers who have due dates between February and May 2024. The shower will be hosted at the department’s new annex, located at 1307 East 17th Street, in Trenton. The baby shower will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024 from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. The celebration will include refreshments, giveaways and helpful information for new and expecting mothers. Health department staff will be available to answer questions regarding breastfeeding, immunizations, WIC and more. All attendees who register will receive a diaper bag with a package of diapers, baby wipes, a cooler bag, a receiving blanket and other items. Attendees must register no later than Friday, Feb. 16 to be assured of a gift package. Please call the health department at 660-359-4196 to register.

The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art held an awards ceremony on Friday, January 18, 2023 for the 50th Annual Membership Exhibition, which showcases works exclusively by current museum members. The annual Membership Exhibition showcases works exclusively by current museum members. Dan Maxey of Trenton was awarded second place in the “Drawing” category for this piece entitled “Daniel”. The exhibition features 245 artworks created by 140 artists and will be on view through April 14, 2024.

Council Discusses Billing Inserts, Accepts Bids The Trenton City Council met in open session Monday, January 22, 2024 at 7 p.m., at City Hall. In attendance were Mayor Jackie Soptic; Council Members William Fisher, Calvin Brown, Timothy Meinecke, David Mlika, Glenn Briggs, Duane Urich, John Dolan on Zoom and Marvin Humphreys on Zoom; City Attorney Kenton Kenney; City Administrator/Utilities Director Ron Urton; Police Chief Rex Ross; and City Clerk Cindy Simpson. The meeting was called to order after the pledge of allegiance and a prayer. The minutes from the January 10, 2024 meeting were read and approved, along with the dually obligated bills. The Police Personnel board was the first to give their report. Timothy Findley from El Dorado Springs, who has 17 years of experience, was approved to join the police force by the council members. The Utility committee reported briefly on the things they were bringing to the council in the new business portion of the meeting. The finance committee will meet at the end of February to hit the budget hard, hoping to move things around to help out all of the
