AG CLASSES BENEFICIAL TO STUDENTS

What do you think about when you think about ag? When I think about ag, I think about the fun I have with my friends while making memories and learning things. I also think about how ag has so many different options you can choose from so it can really be for anyone. Many people think that ag is just for farm kids. I always thought that until I did it. I don’t live on a farm and I never have but I’ve always been interested in ag and have wanted to do it in high school. It provides many leadership opportunities and you learn things that help you tremendously in the future.

FFA makes me feel welcome at school and it is the corner of the high school that I go to when I need help with something. The ag teachers in Cameron are my favorite teachers because they are serious when they teach, but we can joke with them too. They are my favorite teachers because they push me to be better at what I do and they help me through everything. The ag teachers are filled with so much knowledge and I have learned so many things from them. Another good thing about ag is my peers in it. There are so many hard workers in ag and I am always pushing myself to be better than the best person on the teams that I am on. If it weren’t for my friends in ag, I would not be good at what I do.

Ag helps you get out of your comfort zone and get involved in things. It provides many fun, critical thinking, and team building opportunities for kids such as contests. This year for contest, I am working on dairy cattle, creed, and conduct of chapter meetings. If you are more of an outdoorsy person, CDE’s are for you but if you like public speaking or writing things, LDE’s are for you. I am a little bit of both which is why I do both.

Also, now in our chapter there is a trapshooting team so if you are more of a sporty person, trapshooting is for you. This is our first year doing trapshooting and I hope it continues for a while. I plan on being on the trapshooting team all 4 years of high school since I am only a freshman this year. I also hope to be an officer for a few years in FFA.

FFA teaches you so much about being a leader. The ag department is very welcoming and most likely will have something you like with the very wide variety of opportunities they have. The FFA members here in Cameron are like my family and it is my favorite thing that I do here at the high school. To close, FFA provides many different experiences and chances to be successful and this is why it is my favorite.

HELP WANTED

The City of Hamilton is now accepting applications for Manager, Assistant Manager and Lifeguards at the Hamilton Municipal Swimming Pool for the 2024 season.

Applicants must be at least 15 years of age and must be able to get certified in lifeguarding/water park/first aid/CPR/AED before the beginning of the season.

Responsibilities include lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons, admission attendant and concessions. Manager and Assistant Manager will be responsible for daily operational duties.

Applications can be picked up at City Hall and must be returned no later than 5 pm on March 15, 2024.

The Hamilton Police Department is accepting applications for the full-time position of Police Officer.
