FFA CREED SERVES AS REMINDER TO THANK THOSE WHO “WORK IN ACRES, NOT HOURS”
The FFA Creeds reminds us on a daily basis about the importance of farming and the hard work that goes into producing our food and fiber. Farmers across the country exemplify the work ethic and integrity needed to unselfishly provide for the masses. The essence of Farmers can be felt in all five paragraphs of the FFA Creed which is served up to every FFA member joining it’s ranks. Members recite the Creed while Farmers live it, none the less it serves as a road map to honor, integrity and a strong work ethic.
“I believe in the future of agriculture…”. Agriculture has been around since the beginning of time, and it will be around till the end. Farming is one of the oldest occupations in the world. It has helped build communities, and stabilize economies for over 10,000 years. Farming originated in Fertile Crescent, and has been a vital part of society ever since.
“I believe that to live and work on a good farm,” hold joys and discomforts. The American farmer works hard every day to provide us with products we need to survive. The average farmer feeds approximately 165 people. Farmers provide us with many products that are essential for our everyday lives. They provide food to eat, clothing for our backs, shelter to keep us safe, and fuel helping drive the economy.
“I believe in leadership from ourselves and respect from others…”. Farmers exhibit leadership and respect through their daily work ethic and hard working personalities. Farmers work efficiently while serving others by “producing and marketing the product of our toil.”
“I believe in less dependence on begging and more power in bargaining; in the life abundant and enough honest wealth to help make it so-for others as well as myself; in less need of charity and more of it when needed…”. Farmers are some of the most selfless people you will ever meet. They spend hours upon hours working hard so individuals like ourselves are able to receive everything we need. They sacrifice time with their loved ones so we can spend time with ours.
“I believe that American agriculture can and will hold true to the best traditions of our national life…”. Without farmers there is no way of life. Farming has been around so long and plays such an important role in each and every one of our lives. An individual needs a farmer 365 days of the year, three times a day. So, if you haven’t done so today, thank those who work in acres not hours.
