Hunter Adkins hired as next activities director

The Clinton County R-III School District didn’t need to look far to find the next leader of its athletics department.

The Clinton County R-III Board of Education voted last week to hire teacher Hunter Adkins as the district’s next activities director. Adkins, an East Buchanan alum, has spent time teaching and coaching in both Gower and Plattsburg. He said he’s been working his way toward the position for quite a while.

“I’ve spent the last few years trying to refine my approach and thoughts on how an athletic department should look and what is most important to me,” he said. “The most exciting part is trying to continue what Coach Kellerstrass did before me and put my own personal touches on it. I really want to help make this place somewhere where our own student-athletes want to come back and develop as coaches.”

Plattsburg High School Principal Brandon Burns said that Adkins is an excellent fit for the district, with his relevant experience, leadership skills and knowledge of the district’s sports programs.

“Hunter’s communication skills are exceptional and he is committed to ensuring that our student-athletes receive a well-rounded education that includes their athletic pursuits,” Burns said.
