Penelope, Paige and Paxton could spend an entire day—no, a week— in Puzzleland Emporium.

This store has everything you can imagine—and then some.

It has things with polka dots‌

‌and things with stripes.

It has things you can push…

…and things you can pull.

It has things you can eat.

And if that’s not enough, it even has places you can sleep.

“No time for naps,” says Penelope’s mom. “We still have quite a few things to get for the school carnival.”

Penelope’s mom is on the carnival planning committee.

A committee is a group that works together on something.

Penelope, Paige and Paxton have come along to make sure she gets everything they need.

Penelope’s mom plans all kinds of events all over Puzzleland.

Planning events is her perfect fit.

A perfect fit is something that you love to do.

In Puzzleland, all the puzzle pieces are different, but each has a perfect fit. It’s what makes Puzzleland perfect.

“Okay. Back to work,” says Penelope’s mom, checking her list.

“Party favors are next.”

But Penelope, Paige and Paxton have something else in mind.

When they finally arrive at the party favor isle, Penelope, Paige and Paxton decide on orange and blue, their school colors.

They place balloons, streamers and tablecloths in the cart.

“Next are cups, plates, knives, forks and spoons.�

Penelope, Paige and Paxton have learned that working together is a good way to get things done faster.

Just then, Penelope notices an array of beautiful boxes in the next isle.

“What are these?” asks Penelope.

“The boxes are so cool!” says Penelope.

“Thank you. We designed them,” says one of the puzzle pieces.

“We’re packaging engineers.”

“Packaging engineers?” asks Penelope. Penelope is excited.

Paige and Paxton are excited, too.

Engineering is Penelope’s perfect fit!

Engineering is the way we make sure the things we use work the way they’re supposed to work.

Packaging engineering is the way we make sure packaging works the way it’s supposed to work.

Packaging engineers love to design packages.

Packaging engineers love to make packages.

Packaging engineers love to decide what goes in what kind of package.

Packaging engineers are the ones who make sure things don’t get messed up or broken before we can use them.

“When we think about engineering, we typically think about machines and gadgets, buildings and towers.

But just like those things have to be designed, so do packages.

That’s what we do,� says one of the packaging engineers.

“How do you decide which package to use?” asks Penelope.

“It all depends on what’s inside,” says the packaging engineer.

Food must be packaged to stay fresh so it doesn’t make us sick when we eat it.

Things like computers and televisions must be packaged to prevent damage to parts.

Liquids must be packaged to prevent leaks and to pour easily.

Things like napkins and paper towels must be packaged to prevent them from getting wet or dirty.

“The best packaging protects the goods, doesn’t cost too much and doesn’t leave behind a lot of waste.”

“In addition, the best packaging is recyclable.

Recycling allows us to turn packaging into something else we can use instead of throwing it away.�

“This is our stop,” says Penelope’s mom.

The three friends say farewell to the packaging engineers.

Penelope, Paige and Paxton place the hot dogs, buns, pickles, ketchup and mustard in the basket, checking carefully to make sure each package is recyclable.

Penelope’s mom checks the final items off her list.

Penelope, Paige and Paxton can’t believe how much fun they had.
