Nothing truly great ever happens without enthusiasm -By Harvey Mackay I am often asked to name the single most i m p o r t a n t quality of a great salesperson.

I usually say it’s three things: 1.

Hungry fighter.

2.

Hungry fighter.

3.

Hungry fighter.

Bottom line: all great sales people must have enthusiasm.

It’s the one critical trait that you cannot teach. You can learn sales skills, product knowledge, how to plan, networking and pretty much everything else.

Enthusiasm is about passion, gusto, excitement and infectious energy to light up any sales call. But it’s hardly limited to sales. Even though I like to remind people that all of life is sales – as in, you are always selling something, whether it’s a product, a project, an idea or yourself – unless you project enthusiasm, you might as well give up and take a nap.

Enthusiasm is crucial in every profession. Major League Baseball star Pete Rose once was asked which goes first on a baseball player – his eyes, legs or arm.

He said: “None of these things. It’s when his enthusiasm goes that he’s through as a player.”

That theme resonates through the attitudes of so many successful people.

Here are a few worth noting.

Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi said: “If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm (to play for the Green Bay Packers), you will be fired with enthusiasm.”

Kemmons Wilson, founder of Holiday Inns, said, “If you don’t have enthusiasm, you don’t have anything.”

Motivational author Tom Peters said, “Nothing good or great can be done in the absence of enthusiasm.”

Walter Chrysler, the founder of the automotive chain that bears his name, said,

“The real secret of success is enthusiasm.”

Mark Twain was once asked the secret to his success. He said, “I was born excited.”

Enthusiasm is a commodity more important than all other commodities. It will find solutions where there appear to be none, and it will achieve success when success was thought impossible.

Enthusiastic people never give up.

They understand that the hardest sale they’ll ever make is to themselves. But once they’re convinced they can do it, they get the job done.

Self-confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives, yet many people don’t believe in themselves as they should, and they find it difficult to become successful. Confidence enables you to perform to the best of your abilities, without the fear of failure holding you back. It starts with believing in yourself, even when no one else does.

That attitude is absolutely essential. A positive mental attitude in every aspect of life. Stay upbeat no matter what happens.

A can-do attitude is the mind’s paintbrush.

Enthusiasm can color any situation.

What can you do to boost your enthusiasm? It all depends on how much you want to succeed. Take control of your own destiny. Success comes from knowing what you want, not wanting what you know.

It helps to have a little bulldog in you to achieve your dreams. The pioneering pilot Amelia Earhart said, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act. The rest is merely tenacity.”

Find something that makes you happy.

If you love what you do, you will work harder to make it work. Having a purpose is the best motivation, better than money or fame. To me, happiness is the key to success. Only you can draw the map of the road to your happiness.

Here’s the best part: You can take any detour on your roadmap where your enthusiasm leads you. Therein lies the beauty of living an enthusiastic life, that you can see possibilities beyond your original plan. There are many paths to

achieve your ultimate happiness and success. Don’t let your fear of following them get in the way.

Consider the story of a 94-year-old woman in Arizona. Her friends always described her as charming, delightful and always positive. When asked her secret of living, she responded: “It’s my enthusiasm for life. Because I think positive, I am positive.”

Pausing for a moment, she continued: “Even at 94, I have four boyfriends. I begin each day with Will Power. Then I go for a walk with Arthur Ritis. I usually return home with Charlie Horse, and spend the evening with Ben Gay. Need I say any more?”

If she can have that kind of enthusiasm at 94, there’s no excuse for you not to have it at 24, 44 or 74. The choice is yours: Are you living with enthusiasm?

Mackay’s Moral: The world’s work is done every day by people who could have stayed in bed …. but didn’t.

“The Good Old Days” -By Tom Kuehne Little Things We forget some of the insignificant items that were very common in the past.

Sometimes these little things were part of our life not so long ago.

It’s July. We have to go to town to drop off the eggs at the Produce, pick up 100 pounds of soybean meal, a salt block, some mower sections and groceries. Since the trips to town were well planned to use the least amount of time, dad had to go to the Produce and the Implement and mom went to the grocery store. Since you as a young fellow could help with the grocery carrying, you had to go with mom. She needed help, because today she needed canning salt, sugar and flour. You notice a smell as soon as you get in the store. It’s not a bad smell, it is just a different musty smell. As you follow mom down the first isle, you notice the smell of baked goods, but as you get to the end of the first isle you get to the meat counter and a very noticeable pleasant smell of smoked meat. Coming up the next isle, there is a really strong coffee smell coming from the coffee grinder.

You casually look up and see the ceiling about 16 feet up, made of shaped metal tiles painted white, with black lighting fixtures hanging down. There were lots of small black spots on the ceiling and light bulbs and lots of flies either resting or circling around. When we came to the check-out counter there were fly strips

partially filled with flies that had made the mistake of flying too low. Dad’s back and the groceries are loaded in the pickup box.

Smells fresh and pleasant outside – Glad that job is done. Now for the dusty ride on the dirt road going home.

Most of the kids, especially the boys had lower legs that showed various scabs and black marks. These were primarily caused by our legs coming in contact with steps, sticks, farm machinery and the foot peddles on our bicycles. Most of them could have been avoided if we had slowed down just a little bit, giving us a moment to think before we acted. This injury, however, caused our memory to make us remember previous pain and how to avoid it in the future. Small parts of growing up must be experienced in order to be appreciated.

The most common toy that a boy had was a cap pistol. It sometimes was too time consuming to try to get the caps to explode, so a verbal bang would work just as well. We could shoot those “bad guys”, who were just our neighbor kids, take the guns to school, even to grandma’s house, but nobody was injured except when the hammer came down to strike a cap and hit the skin between your thumb and forefinger instead. The more powerful cap guns would cause a blood blister to appear from this injury. When we grew older, we discovered that if you found two bolts of equal size and thread and a burr that would fit both bolts, you could create a weapon.

We would just start to thread the burr on one bolt, put a couple of caps inside the burr, put the other bolt on the other side of the burr, turn tight and drop it upright on cement, there would be a sizable bang.

Once in a while the explosion would occur while tightening the bolts, causing

Fern B. “Fernie” Ahrens, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at the CentraCare Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

Friday, September 11 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. There will be no public visitation prior to the Mass.

Fern Bernice Engel was born April 11, 1931 in Tolna, North Dakota to William and Ogla (Skoglie) Engel. Fernie moved to Sauk Centre from North Dakota when she was eight years old and went to school through the 10th grade. She worked on the farm with her brothers and sisters so her father could work in the stockyard. On April 22, 1949 she was united in marriage to John Ahrens at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.

Fernie had five children who she raised while working at the Palmer House and Fingerhut where she was a floor supervisor.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and the Little Sauk American Legion Auxiliary. Fernie enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, and always had lots of flowers and plants. She also enjoyed having coffee with her friends at Riverview Manor.

Survivors include her children, Bernice (Gordie) Lancastor of Bemidji, Dorothy (Kent) Miller of Annandale, Lorraine Ahrens of Andover, John (Val) Ahrens of Bemidji, and Duane (Teri) Ahrens of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-greatgrandchildren; and sister, Millie Blank of Sauk Centre.

Fernie was preceded in death by her husband, John Ahrens; parents; brothers and sisters, William Engel, Fred Engel, Martha Lindbeck, Sydney Engel, Archie Engel, Richard Engel, Florence Warner, Lucille Renkin, and Virgil Engel.

Memorials are preferred.

Raphael J. Ritter, 78, of Long Prairie, passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at the Long Prairie Nursing Home.

There will be a private celebration of his life at a later date.

Ralph was born June 11, 1942 to Raphael A. and Valarie (Peschel) Ritter in Browerville, MN. Growing up his family moved to Foley where he attended school.

Ralph was a jack of all trades. He farmed near Long Prairie for over 30 years. He was a butcher and drove truck. He was involved in nearly all areas of production at Jennie-O at one time or another. He was always ready to cut wood for anyone who asked. Ralph loved to fish, winter, summer and anything in-between. He was always one of the first by laying boards on thin ice. He enjoyed deer season, not because of a love for venison, rather he cherished the opportunity to hunt with his kids, step-kids and grandkids.

Ralph was proud of all the beautiful flowers that he grew. He always enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends and neighbors.

Ralph is survived by three sons, Raphael L. “Butch” Ritter of Plankinton, SD, John (Maddy) of Zimmerman, and Jeffrey (Kimberly) of Long Prairie; one daughter, Michelle Borchert of Swanville; three stepsons Charlie (Deb) Reigel of Glenwood, Greg (Sue) Reigel of New Munich and Dave (Michelle) Reigel of Mound; one son-in-law Kenny Borchert of Eagle Bend; one sister, Roxanne (Gary) Wessel of Jordan and one Brother, Richard (Jackie) of Seattle, WA; 24 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Rodney and his son Neil Ritter.

Arlene H. Wensman

Arlene H. Wensman, age 78 of Belgrade, died peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

A private family service will be held. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Freeport.

Arlene Helen Wensman was born October 27, 1941 in Freeport, Minnesota to Anton “Tony” and Rose (Bueckers) Wensman. The family moved to Belgrade in 1942. In 1946, Arlene contracted polio, prior to the introduction of the polio vaccine. Consequently, she spent a lot of time off and on in Gillette Children’s Hospital starting in 1946 for nine months. The shortest time was six weeks and the longest period was fourteen months.

Even though Arlene missed a lot of school, she was fortunate to be able to graduate with honors with her class from Belgrade High School in 1959. She then attended St. Francis School of Medical Record Technology in Breckenridge, Minnesota, graduating in 1960.

Arlene worked at North Memorial Medical Center for two and a half years before working in an OB-GYN office for 27 years as office manager. When that office closed, she worked as secretary to one of the physicians at Twin Cities Orthopedics and later she worked for the same office, out of her home, as their medical transcriptionist for 18 years.

Due to post-polio syndrome with continuing weakness, Arlene entered the Belgrade Nursing Home where she was the president of the Resident Council for four years. She moved to Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose where she was also president of the Resident Council for one year.

Arlene enjoyed sewing, embroidery, knitting, playing cards, BINGO, reading, cooking and baking, going to Las Vegas with her sisters and mother, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include her brothers, Robert (Shirley) Wensman of Sauk Centre and Linus (Mary Lou) Wensman of Crystal; sisters, Carol (David) Mott of Onamia, Lois (Michael) DesParte of Blairsville, Georgia, and Cynthia Cohen of Buffalo; and sistersin-law, Mary Ann Wensman of Greenwald and Pat Wensman of Paynesville.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin, Denis, and Ado Wensman; sister-in-law, Marcey Wensman; and brother-in-law, Victor Cohen.

Memorials to the Gillette Children’s Hospital and Camp Courage.

Harriet Walburn

H a r r i e t Walburn, 96, of Grey Eagle, passed away on September 3, 2020.

Funeral services for Harriet were held on September 8, 2020 at the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle.

Burial was held at Lakeview Cemetery, Grey Eagle.

Harriet was born March 6, 1924, in Grey Eagle, to John & Erma (Fuller) Karnes.

She attended school through the 8th grade after which she stayed on the farm to help raise her siblings. Harriet met John through her cousin around Thanksgiving; the couple married on her parent’s farm just a couple months later in Grey Eagle on January 19, 1943. Together they raised their family on the farm in Grey Eagle. Harriet moved to the Mother of Mercy Senior Living in Albany in 2016. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle where she taught religion for many years.

Harriet enjoyed raising her children on the farm. She loved the farm, raising calves, cooking, and baking, especially pies, cakes, and bread. Harriet is best known for her chocolate chip cookies.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents; husband John “Jack”, son James, siblings: Clayton, Lawrence, infant brother John, Calvin, Ivan, and Jeanette.

She is survived by her children: Joan (Donavon) Payne of Burtrum, Brenda (Lowell) Lunceford of Rockville, John (Cathy) Walburn of Browerville, Barbara (Alan) Stang of St. Augusta; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and siblings: Ella Mae (Al) Bartz of Waite Park, Hoyt (Joyce) Karnes of Burtrum and Everette “James” (Darlene) Karnes of St. Joseph.

Denise M. Janshen, age 52 of Grey Eagle, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 4, 2020 at the Saukinac Campground near Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Denise Michelle Machioch was born November 2, 1967 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Dennis and Sandra (Olson) Machioch.

She graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Jason Janshen on September 4, 1993 at the Long Prairie United Methodist Church in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Denise enjoyed camping, taking trips to Texas, snowmobiling, hunting, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Jason Janshen of Grey Eagle; daughters, Tonya Nelson of Carlos and Ashley (Travis) Rasmusson of Osakis; grandchildren, Torie and Maizie Nelson and Lexus Miller; stepfather, Al Hildenbrand; brothers and sisters, Deb Breskamp, Kim Hildenbrand, Bob Milbrandt, Lisa (Todd) Harwell, and Dennis (Polly) Hildenbrand.

Mark Dreher

Mark Dreher, 61, of Long Prairie, passed away September 1, 2020. Funeral service was held Friday, September 4 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie. Burial was in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery.

Mark was born February 23, 1959, in Browerville to Willard & Elsie (Opelia) Dreher. He attended Long Prairie High School. After high school, Mark took a job at the Long Prairie Packing Plant. In May 1979, Mark was in a diving accident leaving him a quadriplegic. He worked at Canterbury Downs for several years after his accident until his health no longer permitted it.

Mark enjoyed riding trails in his chair, watching sports, especially football and making his yearly trips back home during deer hunting to spend time with the family.

Mark lived independently until his death with the help of personal care attendants.

He handled his injury with dignity and grace; always staying positive and never complaining.

Mark is preceded in death by his dad Willard “Bud” and brothers: Alan and John.

Those left to cherish the memories of Mark are his mother Elsie Dreher of Long Prairie; siblings: Gail (Wayne) Carstensen of Browerville, Gary Dreher of Long Prairie, Dean Dreher of Long Prairie, Neal (Gina) Dreher of Browerville and many nieces and nephews.

Arvin Wardien

Arvin (Arv) Wardien, 67, of Long Prairie, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on September 6, 2020.

Visitation & service will be held at Diamond Point, Sauk Centre on Saturday, September 12.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with the service being at 12 p.m.

Arv was born July 19, 1953, in Bertha to Earl and Florance (Paulson) Wardien.

He married Nancy Sharp on June 10, 1972.

Arv married Cynthia Kangas on October 19, 1984. Arv and Cindy made their home in Long Prairie where he owned and operated Creative Concepts for 26 years. Arv drove school bus for 30 years; becoming a favorite bus driver to many kids over the years. He also worked at Lindsay Eco Water for 21 years and was honored with many awards during his sales career.

Arv was a kind, giving, goofy and adventurous soul. He loved to help anyone he could. There were simply no bad days around Arv as he made sure to keep the laughter and celebration going at all times.

He built two beautiful homes and was a perfectionist with every detail. He loved camping, sponsoring and attending soft ball games, duck hunting, watching the Minnesota Vikings, taking a vacation now and then and especially spending time with his grandkids. Christmas was a special time for Arv as he wanted to make sure the grandkids had presents to open that they would love. He was a kid at heart and loved life. Arv touched many during his lifetime and his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Arv is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Wardien and Alan and Florance Voge, granddaughter Maya Ayala; step-sister Lori Perkins, father-in-law Russell Kangas, brothers-in-law: Robert Kangas and Timothy Kangas.

The Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Constance “Connie” Young, age 83 of Waite Park, formerly of Avon, will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 12th at the Church of All Saints, St. Mary’s in Holdingford, burial will be in the Arban Cemetery at a later date. Connie died at the Sterling Park Health Care Center in Waite Park on Thursday, August 27, 2020. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the services at the church in Holdingford.

Connie was born on December 29, 1936 in Holding Township to Peter and Martha (Stiller) Jarnot. She married Raymond C “Ray” Young on September 9, 1957 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Holdingford.

Connie was a homemaker for many years and then worked for Index 53 in St. Stephen and retired from Fingerhut in St Cloud. She and Ray farmed his homestead near Holdingford and lived there through retirement. In 2005, she entered the Sterling Park Health Care facility. Connie was known for her wonderful homemade caramel rolls, coffee cake that she would bake for family events and holidays, canning foods and her love of music. She was a member of the Church of All Saints, St. Hedwig’s in Holdingford.

Connie is survived by her children, Bonnie (Jack) Wenker, Waite Park; Brenda (Gary) Korneck, St. Cloud; Becky (Kyle) Lawin, Holdingford; Barbara Young, Sartell; Beth (Andrew) Fabbrini, Somerset, WI; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brothers and sisters; Laverne Kobylinski, Holdingford; Darlene (David) Huls, St. Wendel; Patty Warlof, Minneapolis; Maxine (Bernard) Pogatshnik, St. Cloud; Doris (William) Johnson, Maple Grove; Robert (Rita) Jarnot, Holdingford; and Beverly (Debra) Jarnot, Severn, Maryland.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray in 2010, her son Bryan Young in 2009; brother and sisters, Fidelas “Fid” Jarnot; Phyllis “Philly” Biffle and Beatrice “Beatty” Lange; sister-in-law, Lorraine Jarnot; brothers-in-law, Sylvester ”Sally” Kobylinski and Frank Biffle.

August 31, 2020: At 11:18 21:18 responded to a theft of a dirt bike in section 19 of Round Prairie Township. A 2006 Honda CRF150F with red and white plastics and Monster stickers on the side was taken. Additionally the bike had red handle bar levers, red grips and red fork covers. Any information as to the whereabouts of the bike should be reported to the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.

September 4, 2020: At 10:18 responded to a call in section 22 of Long Prairie Township. A vehicle driving eastbound on County Road 12 rear ended a tractor pulling a hay rack. Minor damage was done to the hay rack and significant front end damage was sustained by the car. There were no injuries as a result of the accident.

Richard “Rick” Klaphake

Richard R. “Rick” Klaphake, age 65 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family after a short, but hard fought battle with Leukemia on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at his home on Big Birch Lake.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held privately. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose.

Richard Raymond Klaphake was born July 4, 1955 in Melrose, Minnesota to Gilbert and Marcella “Sally” (Uphoff) Klaphake. He was a life-long turkey farmer, joining his dad in business in 1972, before graduating from Melrose High School in 1973. That summer, Rick married Debra “Deb” Meyer on July 6th, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Rick was part owner of Klaphake Feed Mill, R&L Turkeys, and Railside Turkey Farm.

He was proud to be part of the Ag Industry.

Rick was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, where he served on the Parish Council and the Church Building Committee. He was a member of the Melrose Fire Department for 20 plus years, during his time he served as the Fire Chief. Rick also served on the Board of Directors and President of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association.

Rick enjoyed golfing, hunting, vacationing with friends, watching the Vikings and Twins, and spending his time on Big Birch Lake. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Deb Klaphake of Melrose; children, Autum (Frank) Helmin of Melrose, Pete (Brenda) Klaphake of Melrose, and Karen (Aaron) Rieland of Avon; grandchildren, Jordan, Brady, and Adam Helmin, Abby, Wyatt, and Isaac Klaphake, and Grace, Audrey, and Charlie Rieland; sisters and brother, Diane (Mark) Frieler of Sauk Rapids, Laura (Mike) Meyer of Melrose, and Leon (Mary) Klaphake of Melrose.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Sally Klaphake.

September 3, 2020: At approximately 10:31 a.m., received a report of a farming accident on 60th Avenue, approximately one mile southeast of Upsala, MN in Elmdale Township.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Kenneth Wielenberg of Upsala, MN was unloading silage out of a silage box trailer. At one point the auger got clogged with silage and Wielenberg attempted to clear it when his right arm got caught in the auger. Wielenberg was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center by Life Link III with extensive injuries to his right arm.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Upsala Fire Department, Upsala First Response Team, Life Link III and Mayo Clinic Ambulance.

Avon Burglary: August 26, 2020: A caller reported that their garage door was open, things were moved around, and they were missing money. There was a vehicle in the driveway that had been gone through and $50.00 was missing from the purse that was left inside. The suspect also entered the garage and took a leaf blower and moved numerous items around. Some shirts that were hung up in the garage were moved to a bench and a cat fence was moved.

Avon Burglary: September 3, 2020: Caller reported someone had been in his garage overnight. The garage had been locked and the suspect used a ladder to break a window. The items stolen were a .22 caliber handgun and a buck knife.

Avon Burglary: September 3, 2020: Another garage was entered, but nothing was taken. Suspect took some items and moved them around. A clicker counter was removed from a bag and placed on the seat of a vehicle. A pop can was left behind, and the garage remote was moved and later found in the mailbox.

I’m glad you’re thinking about things ahead of time. A lot of people wait until December to buy gifts and make plans. That’s fine if they’ve got the money set aside to handle things, but most of them don’t. Then, they panic and turn to credit cards. You don’t want to end up in a situation where you’re still paying off Christmas in April.

If you don’t have anything put aside yet, I’d suggest setting some spending goals now. Taking a close look at your income and living expenses should be part of this. If you’re not doing it already, what I’m talking about here is living on a written, monthly budget. Look at how much you can afford to put toward Christmas each month, make a gift-giving goal amount, and stick to it.

There are end-of-summer sales still going on, and you never know what you might find.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a wonderful Christmas or make the season special for others—even when it comes to giving. Thoughtful handmade items, meaningful photographs set in a frame, or special baked goods are great ways to show the folks in your life you’re thinking about them and how much you care.

Now, let’s talk about next year. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with including a line just for Christmas in your budget each month. Christmas doesn’t sneak up on you.

It’s on December 25th every single year.

Putting a little money aside all year long might just take some of the stress out of your Yuletide planning.

Dear Motor Medics, I have a 1995 Eagle Vision and I’m having multiple electrical issues. The wipers sometimes turn on and wipe once or more times by themselves and the turn signals only work occasionally. In addition to those items my instrument cluster gages sometimes go to zero while I am driving, and they will not come back until I hit a bump. One more additional issue that seems to happen whenever it feels like it is the transmission not shifting. If I shut the car off, then restart it then it may work again. These items have all occurred by themselves but can happen all at once too. Could it be just one thing causing this?

A shop will need to diagnose them one at a time to find the causes and age of the car and its condition will possibly be a factor as you could exceed a reasonable cost due to the extent of repairs. The wipers and gages have been known to fail due to issues with the body control modules which we have seen many times over the years but other things like poor grounds to the body and faulty wiper motors, switches and instrument cluster can also be at fault. The transmission repairs could get extensive as shutting the key off resets the system and covers up some issues.

the brakes replaced including pads and rotors and all hoses and calipers about 50k miles ago. The leak is coming from my rear brake line right at the ABS control unit due to rust. I went to a repair shop near me and they told me to junk the vehicle because it would cost $2500 to replace all of the lines and the truck was not worth that much.

- Rick from Bottineau, North Dakota First off, who are they to tell you what your vehicle is worth? A shop is a great reference for giving an opinion as for safety and to tell you costs but you have the final say. It sounds like you have spent a good deal on it and if it is in good shape otherwise, shop around for a better deal.

There are complete brake line kits available for that vehicle for less than $200.00 and an experienced shop can replace them in about 8 hours so even at $100.00 per hour that’s only about half price. Sometimes it pays for a second opinion but NEVER compromise safety in the name of saving money.
