Manners matter -By Harvey Mackay If you’ve ever had to deal with the thoughtless behavior of someone, you’ll appreciate this story about the great composer and pianist Franz Liszt.

The virtuoso musician once found himself at odds with a very important member of his audience. The czar of Russia, Nicholas I, made a late entrance during Liszt’s concert. Even after being seated, the czar continued to talk out loud with members of his entourage. Liszt realized that Nicholas had no intention of ending his discourse, so he stopped playing and bowed his head.

Poor manners are difficult to navigate around in most arenas. No matter what your rank or position, there is no excuse for rudeness. Bad manners are bad form.

At work, where many of us spend a large share of our waking hours, bad manners are bad business. Good manners build good relationships.

The key to a good relationship at work can be as simple as saying “please” and” thank you” and asking people how their children are or how their spouses are, according to an article in the Harvard Business Review on managing your career. Manners are the lubricating oil of any organization – or any society, for that matter. It’s a law of nature that two moving bodies are going to create friction, and it is the concept of manners that keeps chaos at bay.

Good manners are not phony or forced. They are a habit that has been developed and nurtured so that they are an automatic response. Good manners are not an invitation to let others take

advantage of you either. Rather, they provide you with the confidence and responses that will allow you to take the high road no matter how nasty the other party gets.

Good manners also provide a leg up when it’s time to find a new job, whether it’s starting your career or moving up the ladder.

Getting your foot in the door is hard enough, so don’t let your manners slam the door on you. Looking for a job has always required impeccable behavior on the part of the job-seeker. According to etiquette consultant Jodi R. R. Smith (www.mannersmith.com), it’s important that job-seekers not overlook propriety in their search. Here are a few of Smith’s tips: • Be professional – especially when communicating electronically.

There are a lot of people out there crafting outrageous e-mails when they are inquiring about job openings, Smith says. Don’t relax the old rules of job-hunting and interviewing just because you’re using modern modes of communication. As Smith says, an e-mail that reads, ‘Dude, so what is this job about?’ just isn’t going to cut it.

“The Good Old Days” -By Tom Kuehne The Post War Years From 1941 through 1945, the area economy was positively affected by the war. When the war ended, Washington had fears of another depression, due to the return of the service personnel to the work force and the reduced need of material for the war. Many factory workers, both male and female, were laid off from their war-time employment. Something needed to be done. Electricity was a big part of the answer.

Electrification of the rural areas created another employment boom.

Jobs created by the building of the new electrical power plants, the creation of the electrical service lines and the installation of electricity in homes and farm buildings, kept workers busy for the next 5 years. The servicing and maintenance of the electrical service creates employment through the current years and will continue into the future.

When the electricity became available to the farm, that was just the beginning. Now that it was here, we need to use it. We extended electrical wires to the out-buildings. We got an

electric water pump, an electric motor and new milking machine. The house needed an electric refrigerator, electric water heater, electric freezer, electric stove, electric radio, electric clock, new furnace with an electric blower, maybe a washer and dryer. Now we needed to install water lines to the barn and house. We need to make a sewer system and install bathroom equipment. We needed to get electric saws, drills, grinders, battery chargers, welders etc. The appliances needed to use the electricity created many jobs.

The retailer who supplied the appliances needed additional employees.

Good times continued until the later part of the 1900’s, when although we still felt that we needed new things, the new things were of a reduced quality with a reduced life expectancy. Many items are made to stop working after a few short years of use. This makes us buy new products to replace the items which no longer work properly, but the big problem is that the new item is usually manufactured in some foreign country. This doesn’t create jobs in the US. Not a good thing!

• Make sure you have a professionalsounding voicemail message on whatever phone number you give to recruiters. You don’t want a potential interviewer to call you and get a long, silly message you’ve designed for your friends’ amusement.

• Smile and be pleasant. Your disposition makes the first impression on interviewers. Extend kindness to everyone you meet – including receptionists and anyone else who may not be involved in the interview process.

Interpersonal relations will always make a difference. Displaying good manners will never hurt you, so don’t be afraid to be the nice person. You can still be funny, serious, self-confident and determined.

The old adage still holds true: You only get one chance to make a good first impression.

Obituaries Werner J. “Vern” Eibensteiner

W e r n e r J. “Vern” Eibensteiner, age 88 of Albany, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m.

Saturday, October 27 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany with Rev. Julius Beckermann, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Seven Dolors Gathering Area in Albany. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. followed by St. Joseph’s Men’s Society at 6 p.m. Friday evening at the Seven Dolors Gathering Area.

Werner Joseph Eibensteiner was born January 8, 1930 in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Anna (Kampsen) Eibensteiner. Vern married Lucille Van Heel on August 27, 1951 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony and raised their nine children on the family farm. In 1985, he started his career in over-

the-road trucking; this brought him great joy.

In his younger years, Vern enjoyed bowling with his wife. He also enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and in his later years, getting pontoon rides from Mother of Mercy.

Vern was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Men’s Society.

Survivors include his children, Werner (Marilyn) Eibensteiner Jr. of Maple Grove, Gordon (Janice) Eibensteiner of Slayton, Jeanne (Allen) Stangler of Albany, Lonny “Butch” (Audrey) Eibensteiner of Lino Lakes, Dale (Brenda) Eibensteiner of St. Joseph, Jim (Marla) Eibensteiner of Elk River, Lu (Joe) Rademacher of New Munich, Shelly (Russ) Rooney of Belgrade, and Susan (Whit) Bagley of Bryant, Arkansas; 29 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and sister-in-law, Delores Tamm of Albany.

Vern was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Eibensteiner; parents; brothers, Hugo (Marcella) and Brother Gregory; sisters, Selma (Edward) Stalboerger, Mildred (Tony) Welle, Rita (Quirin) Stalboerger, Florentine (Sylvester) Walz, Elsie (Cyril) Felling, Sister Lavonne Eibensteiner, Hilda (John) Petermeier, and Frieda (Art) Winter; grandsons, Chris and Scott Eibensteiner; and infant grandson, Russell Eibensteiner.

Serving as casket bearers will be Al Stangler, Russ Rooney, Gordy Eibensteiner, Lonny Eibensteiner, Dale Eibensteiner, and Jim Eibensteiner. Cross bearer will be Nathan Rademacher and scripture bearer will be Cody Rademacher. Reader will be Brooke Eibensteiner. Honorary bearers will be St. Joseph’s Men’s Society.

Glen D. Pfaff, 86, of Onamia, MN died on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Glen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, MN at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 25, 2018 with visitation one hour prior to Mass at the church with Father Ron Dockendorf officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be at Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Little Falls, MN at 3:00 PM. Glen was born on October 10, 1932 in Grey Eagle, MN to John and Marguarite (Day) Pfaff. He was raised in Grey Eagle, graduating from Grey Eagle High School.

He started working at 14 years old for different farmers, he then moved to the Twin Cities, where he worked at Drive Inns until coming of age. Glen joined the United States Army where he served our country for many years. Glen returned from the service worked for Litchfield Produce before moving to the cities, where

he eventually got a job working at a Steel Plant (Paper & Calmenson) where he was an employee for seventeen years. Glenn married Esther Yanta in Minneapolis, MN on October 24, 1953 and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary prior to Esther’s passing on February 20, 2014. Glen was offered an Assistant Manager position at the Farmers Union Coop in Cambridge, and was later promoted to manager. He and Esther purchase their own farm in Stanchfield, raising pigs and young livestock. They also owned and operated the Scenic Bay Resort in Isle, which they owned for 12 years. Glen and Esther weren’t quite ready to retire so they moved to Wisconsin and owned and operated a liquor store in Nelson, WI. His hobbies included fishing, cards, he was a Post Commander of the Isle VFW, and loved music, playing the dobro. His greatest joy though was spending time with the family.

Glen was a 55 year member of the Knights of Columbus.

Glen is survived by his children: Nancy (John) Woods of Richmond, Mark of Isle, and Paul (Cynthia) of Isle; grandchildren: Christa, Jessica, Colt, Nicholas, and Steffan; great-grandchildren: Nevaeh Tyler, Peyton, Colten, Carter, Tenley, Emma, Tayden, and Victoria; and special friends: Joan and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marguarite; wife, Esther; a daughter who they lost due to a car accident, Joy; siblings, Maxine, Harriet, Calvin, Bernard, Audrey, Donna, and Norman.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall, MN.

-Jamie Dear Jamie, If you’re following my plan, the first thing you should do is set aside a beginner emergency fund of $1,000.

That’s Baby Step 1. Next comes Baby Step 2, which means paying off all your debt except for your house. This would include your car. During this time, you should temporarily stop any kind of investing and retirement contributions.

Once your mortgage is the only debt you have left, it’s on to Baby Step 3. This means you start saving money and growing your beginner emergency fund into a fully-funded emergency fund of three to six months of expenses.

When that’s done, you can attack Baby Step 4—investing 15 percent of your pre-tax income for retirement. In your case, that would mean re-starting the contributions to your 401(k).

The rest of the plan goes like this.

Baby Step 5 is putting money into your kids’ college funds, if you have kids, while Baby Step 6 is putting everything you can scrape together towards paying off the house early. After that comes the real fun. Baby Step 7 is the point where you build wealth and give like crazy.

It may take a little time in some cases, but following these steps will lead you to financial peace!

Motorists who travel Highway 71 between Interstate 94 and Ash Avenue N in Sauk Centre will encounter road crews, heavy equipment and potential delays while segments of the road are reduced to a single lane beginning Monday, Oct. 29.

The lane closures will occur from sunrise to sunset, up to seven days per week, while crews resurface the road.

Flaggers and a pilot car will allow alternating one-way traffic through each day’s work zone while crews complete their work. Motorists entering any Highway 71 work zone from an intersecting road or driveway must wait for the pilot

car and follow it through the work zone.

All lanes of Highway 71 through Sauk Centre are scheduled to open by Monday, Nov. 5. The schedule is weather dependent.

When complete, the project will result in a smoother ride and preserve the pavement along two miles of Highway 71.

CentraCare Health – Melrose launches new blood flow restriction therapy program Melrose is the first health care organization in Central Minnesota to launch a blood flow restriction (BFR) therapy program.

Blood flow restriction (BRF) therapy involves using a semi-tourniquet to limit blood flow to a certain muscle group. A computer-operated cuff is applied temporarily to the arm or leg, which reduces the ability for blood to be pumped back to the heart from that limb.

Restricting the blood flow increases muscle oxygen demand, causing the muscles to work harder to maintain the same movement. Through this process, most people can increase muscle strength by using significantly less weight -- or no weight at all. Patients are able to gain strength, rehabilitate from injuries and reduce pain during movement.

“Patients who have weight-bearing restrictions, significant limitations due to surgery, structural issues or general weakness due to lack of movement really benefit from this type of therapy,” said Jared Eickhoff, physical therapist at CentraCare Health – Melrose. “Typical examples are hip or foot surgeries, rotator cuff or anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repairs or hip and knee pain.”

Adverse side effects are rare. The most common effects are residual swelling in the limb, a fatigued muscle and occasional mild soreness. These are normal and usually resolve within 24 hours.

“We are really happy to be able to offer this service to our patients close to home,” Eickhoff noted. “We’ve already seen some great results with people of all ages and varying medical conditions.”

Kate and Josh Altendahl of Albany are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Rozlyn Rachel Altendahl, born Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 11:50 a.m. at the CentraCare Health-Melrose.

Rozlyn weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 21 inches long.

Big brothers are Mathias 8 years old, Liam 6 years old, and Emmett 4 years old, all at home.

Energy Assistance Program to help on heating bills The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) helps pay home heating costs and furnace repairs for income-qualified households. EAP is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Grants are available for renters or homeowners, with household income at or below 50 percent of the state median income, and is based on household size, income, fuel type and energy usage. Services may include payment of energy bills, help with utility disconnections or necessary fuel deliveries, education on efficient and safe use of home heating energy, and repair or replacement of homeowners’ malfunctioning heating systems.

The average energy assistance grant in Todd County is $722 per household.

Households with an income less than 50 percent of the state median income ($ 37,476 for a family of four) may qualify; those who qualify are served on a first-

come, first-served basis while funds last.

People have until May 31, 2019 when the program year ends, to apply for EAP. EAP pays the utility company directly on behalf of eligible households.

Qualifying families must apply for assistance at the local service provider in their area. If you are interested in applying for Energy Assistance, please contact Todd County Health and Human Services at 320-732-4516, or toll free at 888-838-4066. If you signed up for the Cold Weather Rule through your energy provider, this protection ends on April 15, 2019.

Other forms of assistance may be available through county social service programs, community-based organizations, and nonprofit agencies. See the Minnesota Department of Commerce webpage at mn.gov/commerce for resources and energy saving tips.

Pedestrian crashes, fatalities increase in fall months More hours of darkness this time of year increase the number of pedestrian crashes and fatalities, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. As the days get shorter, motorists and pedestrians should use caution when driving and walking.

So far this year, 28 pedestrians were killed.

In 2017, 42 pedestrians were killed and 1,053 were injured compared to 60 deaths and 1,037 injuries in 2016.

“Pedestrians are more difficult to see when the sun rises later and sets earlier, increasing the risk of crashes,” said Ray Starr, acting state traffic engineer. “Motorists and pedestrians are equally at fault when we look at the crash data. Both groups need to know and obey the laws because basically we’re all pedestrians at some point in our day.”

The crosswalk law includes these highlights: · Motorists must stop for crossing pedestrians at marked crosswalks and at all intersections

without crosswalks or stop lights. · Pedestrians should obey traffic signs and signals at all intersections that have them. · Vehicles stopped for pedestrians can proceed once the pedestrian has completely crossed the lane in front of the stopped vehicle. · Pedestrians shouldn’t enter a crosswalk if a vehicle is approaching and it is impossible for the driver to stop. There is no defined distance that a pedestrian should abide by before entering the crosswalk; common sense should be used. · When a vehicle is stopped at an intersection to allow pedestrians to cross, drivers of other vehicles approaching from the rear should not pass the stopped vehicle.

Dear Motor Medics, I have a 2005 Chevrolet 2500 truck with a 6.0 engine and automatic transmission. Lately I have been experiencing a noise behind the dashboard upon starting. At first I thought it was under the hood and searched for something that could make the kind of sound I was experiencing.

After much searching I discovered it was coming from behind the passenger side of the dashboard. It is located just to the right of the glove box door and back by the firewall. There is a box there that I assume is part of the heating system and when I touch it I can feel the clicking in sync to the noise. This noise occurs each time I start the vehicle and lasts for about one minute. Have you ever heard a noise like this before?

-Scott in Denver, Colorado Dear Scott, Yes we have heard this noise before and can help you. Most vehicles went to fully electrically operated heater door systems in the late nineties. The door motors have position sensors in them and when they fail the computer does not know where the door position is. Because of this failure the door motor keeps moving when at the end of its travel and begins to strip the gear teeth causing the noise until the module shuts it down at a pre-determined time limit. To fix the noise you will likely need a new door motor. Thanks for the email Scott.

I have been told it might be the check valve but I can’t seem to locate this. -Rodger in Florida Dear Rodger, I am familiar with the problem you are having and it is common to many vehicles with a secondary air injection pump. Cars in the southern climates don’t seem to be bothered by it as much as cold weather states but none the less it happens. The vehicle could have a bad air diverter check valve but it could be as simple as condensation in the air hose between the pump and the valve. The air valve is located on the engine at the passenger side rear just under the top cover. Remove the hose and check it for water, then clean it out if it is present’ reinstall it, and see how it works. You will need to have the codes cleared before the system will operate and run a self-test.

Bitz and Piecez -By Pastor Bitz Mark 9:38-50 – Mark: Marriage and Children In Mark 10:1 we are told that Jesus’ custom was to teach. The Pharisees had a custom of testing him. For an unschooled carpenter Jesus seems to pass their tests. This test was regarding the doctrine of marriage. One can imagine at the time there was some intense theological and social discussions around this topic, as there are today, because you have two sinners trying to live as one.

As we came across this reading I asked myself how these events help the wider story of the beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. What we have are 2 little nuggets of teaching being introduced with verse 1, “And again, as was his custom, he taught them.” The reason the Pharisees thought they could trap Jesus with this teach was because it is such a sticky topic. On the one hand you have God’s will and God’s command and on the other you are dealing with the lives and emotions of two separate people.

As Jesus points out and gets the Pharisees to illustrate, you have to deal with the reality of sin but also remember the way God created things to be. Divorce is permissible because of sin but at the same time it is not God’s will for those two people. When a divorce takes place sin is to fault and God’s blessing is not upon it. Because of our hardness of heart God made legal provisions in the law to allow for a husband and wife

to legally separate. However, when both parties are faithful to God’s will their marriage should preserve and they will grow closer as one flesh.

Throughout scripture we see God permitting actions even though they contradict his will. Engaging in permissible actions like divorce are dangerous because they are there due to our sinful nature. So by using them we allow sin to rule the day and God’s will takes a back seat. And when sin wins, our faith and relationships with God and those around us lose out. For it is those hard areas of our heart that God wants to break and soften.

This is why this teaching is followed up by this proclamation about children, “whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” A child’s heart is far softer and open to God’s will than our adult hearts.

As adults our sin hardens our hearts.

We find the texts that permit our sin and allow our will to persevere. The Old Adam in us is strengthened instead of being drowned while a child will simply believe and obey because they are told that it is the right thing to do.

It is not easy to recognize our sin and I’m not just talking about divorce here.

It is not easy to recognize our sin especially the times when we hold to our sin over and against God’s clear commands.

The good news is that in Jesus when we repent and become helpless and open to God’s will like a child we too receive God’s blessing of forgiveness. This goes

A motion was made by Sup. Muellner to pay all bills numbered 5638 through 5649: Rev. $653.99; R & B $38,181.89, Fire $19,556.73. Sup. Johnson seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Sup. Johnson received an access permit for Long Lake. He viewed and approved the permit with no need for a culvert.

210th Street improvements are about done. The board and the contractor discussed building up 331st Ave south of town. Sup. Muellner made a motion and Sup. Johnson seconded the motion to do necessary improvements to 331st Ave. Motion passed.

Todd and Morrison County Soil and Water held a hearing for homeowners of affected lakes in this area to discuss the condition of lakes and rivers. At the hearing they shared results of testing so far and they are looking for volunteers to help with further testing and to help improve the conditions of area lakes. No certain reasons were given for the inadequate condition of Big Swan Lake, Moose Lake, Trace Lake and Swan River.

Treasurer’s report showed a balance of $99,923.88. Treasurer’s report was approved by Sup. Johnson and seconded by Sup. Muellner. Motion passed.

A motion was made by Sup. Muellner to adjourn the meeting which was seconded by Sup. Johnson. Motion passed. Meeting was adjourned at 7:44 p.m. Next regular meeting will be on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 7 p.m. in the Burtrum Community Center.

Get out and vote November 6

By Alan Perish, Todd County DFL Chair We approach election day on November 6th with a great sense of division in our country. Americans have grown reluctant to discuss policy and governance out of fear of alienating or offending neighbors and friends, or have instead embraced the rhetoric of division and tribalism. For some this translates to a sense of weariness with our national experiment of democracy, or at least the way democracy is embodied in our political system.

Todd County holds one of the lowest voting rates in Minnesota, along with a cluster of other rural counties. This matters not just for the high profile national and state races, but also for how engaged people are in their local governance. Many have given up on voting because of our dysfunctional discourse and a sense that the individual doesn’t matter. Those of us working toward political solutions need to earn their trust, not just in our ideas but in the value of our democratic system.

On Election Day consider voting

as something that we do for each other to live in a free society, rather than a question of whether or not our single vote shifts the balance in the final tally.

Voting is both a ceremonial recognition of our patriotism as well as a system that only works when large majorities participate.

The coming months and years will surely present us with many more discouraging moments of vitriol in our national dialogue, but for those with good faith in our country let this election be a moment to adjust course toward more civil approaches. Set an example that you would hope to see, rather than cultivating grievances over offenses from political celebrities. Consider discussions with those who differ from you as opportunities to explain a perspective rather than to convert the person to your view, and listen to others of good faith with your own good faith.

Vote with the passion of your convictions, but also with the joy of citizenship.

By Jesse Lovelace The Melrose City Council met on Thursday, October 18 to consider the application of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for a conditional use permit and a variance on height limitations to enable the parish to begin construction of a new “campus” to replace the fire-damaged but restorable 120 year old present building. The entire farce can be seen on YouTube under Melrose City Council Meeting 10-18-2018.

After several presentations by Friends to Restore St. Mary’s, and a statement of gratitude to the city council, (why was he thanking the council before they voted? Could there be some skulduggery going on here? Nah, that can’t happen here!) after a moving and emotional plea by a member, whose grandfather built the original pews, and even after a heartfelt but scathing rebuke of the parish leaders by the Mayor, the city council still unanimously granted the application, apparently on the grounds that they had no other legal choice.

No pertinent matters were brought up, such as the question of whether the parish has a clear title to the land involved, whether the land was polluted, (this in spite of a former land owner’s assertion that shingles, construction debris and oil had been dumped there in the past), and that no traffic study had been done, despite the fact that three major industries that rely on heavy truck traffic use an adjacent road daily.

The only positive statement was that the City Administrator had completed all the paperwork necessary to alert nineteen Native American tribes that in case of any artifacts were uncovered, they would be notified. Nothing was ever mentioned about a pending lawsuit, the fact that the present St. Mary’s Church is on the National Registry of Historic Places, the fact that three experts asserted that the building could be restored, and the question of funding for such a project. No, folks, it’s far from over. The future is unpredictable, and may be surprisingly unpleasant for some.

By McKayla Feia, Holdingford Parent & Community Member I am writing you today as a community member and parent of children who attend Holdingford Elementary School. I am writing to encourage all voters to vote on Tuesday November 6th. The school board has worked very hard and listened to feedback from the community survey conducted after last years failed referendum. They have cut down the proposed referendum to what the school absolutely needs to become a safer and better learning environment for all current and future students. The current referendum has two questions,

question 1) focuses on the building bond and includes replacing the high school and elementary school roof, updated security improvements throughout the entire district, improving the high school commons and event restrooms, a six classroom addition in the elementary school, and finally improvements to help with traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Question 2) is an operating levy that will improve our technology equipment, and infrastructure. All these improvements are needed to keep our school the wonderful place it is. Please vote on November 6th.

By Kathy & Dale Bruns, Avon On November 6th the residents of District 738 will again have the opportunity to vote on a referendum we believe enhances the opportunities for our Holdingford students.

First, and foremost, is building security. Most of us attended school at a time when we felt safe, and didn’t worry about horrific events happening in our schools today. Many believe these terrible deeds always happen somewhere else. In a couple of years we will have six grandchildren attending school in Holdingford, and we are not willing to take the chance it always happens somewhere else.

Second is safety. For those of you who have picked up or dropped off your children at the elementary, you know there has to be a safer and more efficient way to do so.

Thirdly, additional classrooms in the elementary. At the time the elementary was built, space was not needed for all day – every day Kindergarten. Facilities

for special needs students were not required to the extent they are today and expansion of pre-school programs were not provided for. Teachers should not have to provide services to students in a closet.

Fourthly is the roof, it leaks. What else needs to be said?

Fifth is technology. We are not technology savvy, but we both understand the future of our students will require the mastery of technology beyond what we now can imagine.

Finally, we encourage you to get the facts before you vote. Prior to last year’s vote many false rumors were being circulated. We anticipate similar rumors are being spread this time as well. Do not rely on hearsay to make your decision, be it for or against the referendum.

Get the facts from the board members or school officials and not others who would say anything to defeat the referendum.

We encourage you to vote.

New Munich: On Friday night, October 12th, Deputy Chris Hagstrom took a report of an attempted dog theft. The attempted theft occurred in the 400 block of Main Street in New Munich. The caller reported the attempted dog-napper was an older white male, in his 50s wearing a black jacket and a hat. This attempted pooch pilfering happened shortly before 9:00 p.m. The dog, actually puppy, is a 10-week-old black German Shepherd. The owner reported the dog was on a zip cord in their yard. The dog-napper grabbed the dog and tried to run with it. The young pup used it’s only defense mechanism and promptly bit the dog-napper on the hand.

The caller reported the dog-napper had to shake the dog off. The caller was unable to see the face of the culprit. Deputy Hagstrom was not able to locate any physical evidence to identify the dog-napper either.

As part of our responsibility as the animal control authority, we will obtain vet and shot records for the young German Shepherd. For his own peace of mind, we would certainly encourage the attempted dog-napper to contact us at the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office to consult with us on the status of any rabies vaccine or other potential medical issues. October 6, 2018: At 14:08 responded to a report of a one vehicle accident near the intersection of County Road 103 and Chippewa Road. The reporting party Coltin Schmidt stated that he lost control of his vehicle and struck a road sign in the north ditch of County Road 103 just west of the intersection of Chippewa Road. Schmidt’s 1998 Chevrolet Silverado sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. Schmidt was not injured.

October 8, 2018: At 12:46 Todd Bussmann of rural Grey Eagle was driving his 2015 Chevy truck south of Ward Springs on County Road 19 when a black truck pulling a trailer with a load of wood was going north, The trailer went over the center and a log hit the box area of the Bussmann truck.

Bussmann was not injured. The other truck continued north on County Road 19 and did not stop. Anyone with information on the other vehicle is ask to call the Todd County Sheriff’s Department.

October 9, 2018: At 07:06 received a report of a car deer accident that occurred on County 105 in rural Swanville. 36 year old Mariah Wendland, rural Grey Eagle, reports that she was traveling northbound on County 105 when she struck a deer in the traffic lane. Wendland and her passenger were not injured. Wendland’s Ford SUV received moderate damage to the front end.

October 11, 2018: At 08:12 Kennedy Hudalla from rural Long Prairie was driving west on Jasmine Road in a 2003 Jeep Liberty when she lost control on a ice cover bridge, the SUV then went into the north side ditch rolling several times. Hudalla was wearing her seat belt and was transport by the Browerville Ambulance with unknown injures.

Browerville Fire Also assisted at the scene.
