I want to share the story of a remarkable teacher who taught her students an unforgettable lesson. On the first day of school back in 2005, a social studies teacher named Martha Cothren gave her classes at Robinson High School in Little Rock, Ark., something to think about.

With the permission of the superintendent, principal and building supervisor, Ms. Cothren removed all the desks from her classroom. Her firsthour students asked where their desks were. She told them, “You can’t have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to sit at a desk.”

They ventured guesses including their grades or their behavior. Wrong answers, she said.

As each successive class came in, they all found a room devoid of seating.

By early afternoon, word had spread and television news crews had arrived at the building to report on this crazy teacher.

The final period students came to class and found a place to sit on the floor. Ms. Cothren simply explained, “Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he or she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell you.”

She then opened the door to her classroom. Twenty-seven United States veterans, all in uniform, walked into her classroom, each carrying a desk. They placed the desks neatly in rows, and then lined up along the wall. By the time the last veteran had set the last desk in place, the kids started to understand – maybe for the first time in their young lives – how the right to sit at those desks had been won.

Ms. Cothren explained: “You didn’t earn the right to sit at those desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it’s up to you to sit in them. It’s your responsibility to learn, to be good students. They paid the

price so you could have the freedom to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so you have the freedom to get an education. Don’t ever forget it.”

Would it surprise you to learn that Martha Cothren was named the 2006 Arkansas Teacher of the Year?

This lesson extends far beyond the classroom. We have the freedom to choose where we work, where we live, how we spend our free time – all because someone fought for our freedom. We owe our veterans an enormous debt of gratitude.

Consider these words from Rev. Dennis Edward O’Brien, USMC, a WWII veteran: “It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the organizer, who gave us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag and whose coffins are draped by the flag, who allow the protester to burn the flag.”

So we take time to honor those men and women who have sacrificed years of their lives, or their very lives, in order that we can continue to enjoy freedoms unmatched anywhere else in the world.

On Open Letter to our Minnesota U.S. Senators

As a medical provider, I had the honor of giving primary care to our U.S. Veterans at the VA for a number of months in 2016. The staff were professional and worked tirelessly on behalf of those who served. The veterans' past life experiences, whether it be living day-to-day under the oppressive weight of war zone stress, or simply living far from home, forever put them slightly apart from their fellow citizens, giving them unique insights from which we all can benefit.

A number of these veterans chose a second career as over-the-road truckers, traveling coast to coast. These vets expressed concern with a recent surge of immigrant drivers, many coming from the war torn Middle East, Southern Asia or the Caucasus, and now driving on America's vital interstate arteries. Who are these people? Why does a nation of over 300 million citizens have to rely on foreigners to transport its volatiles, dangerous chemicals, commodities and merchandise. The veterans bluntly stated that some corporate retailers have been wanting to drive down U.S. trucker pay for greater profit. They added that this imported labor is being used against Americans making a living wage. At least one veteran claimed that the federal government had a specific program in place to assist foreign drivers to get into eighteen wheelers at taxpayer expense, even giving them a leased truck to drive and special tax breaks. The implication for national security of having any potential terrorists on our nation's highways while we sleep at night is not lost on me, or most of the American people. I had to look carefully into these serious accusations...

An internet search reveals that there are multiple websites run by individuals and national trucking companies explaining to foreigners, many from Muslim countries racked by Islamist violence, how to get an immigrant H-2B work visa in order to get into the United States, and then how to get a CDL, a commercial drivers license. Some websites even coached would-be immigrant drivers how to game the system by first gaining entry into Canada, then driving in the United States under NAFTA trade rules. Now, the H-2B program is for seasonal jobs, which Americans supposedly don't want to do. So I ask both of you, why is this program for “temporary” farm workers being used to bring in truckers, many from countries that put Sharia law over any civil or constitutional rule of law? Even FBI director James Comey admitted before Congress that there is no practical way to check the background of these immigrants. The Caucasus immigrated Tsarnaev brothers, who bombed the Boston Marathon, are just one case in point. Yet, despite the painfully obvious, the Congressional Record from 16 DEC 2015, (volume 161, No. 183) detailed the expansion of this very visa program which you and your colleagues proceeded to vote into legislation under the cover of an omnibus spending bill. This sleight of hand was at the expense of good wages for American workers and our nation's internal security.

In the wake of 9-11, The New York Times on 20 OCT 2002, reported that trucks are domestic security risks for an attack on our nation.

It went on to quote an industry security specialist who succinctly stated, “A tractor-trailer with the right cargo offers a horrendous weapon.”

So imagine a tractor-trailer with radioactive materials, or simply chlorine gas, placed with a bomb and parked at the Mall of America, near a sports stadium, or by our children's school. Senators, the New York Times identified this problem almost 15 years ago and nothing has been done. Please explain this inexcusable security negligence. In the aftermath of the Nice, France, truck attack, Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation published that Islamists have for years advocated using vehicles as they have used planes. The bottom line for Islamists is to maximize the number of non-Muslims they can kill...

Adding to this security folly, we have up to 44 Afghan soldiers training in the United States that have been AWOL and most are still unaccounted for, according to the Pentagon. Who came up with the lame brain idea of bringing these notoriously unreliable, backstabbing soldiers in our country in the first place? This is as inane as bringing in 100,000 more Syrian refugees as advocated by Senator Hillary Clinton and our president. Are these Afghan soldiers, trained by the U.S. Military in special operations and intelligence, now cutting throats at a turkey slaughterhouse in Melrose or Willmar? Or are they in Canada, obtaining their truck drivers license for an eventual Taliban attack within our country? Senators, where are they?

I now write to my fellow residents of Central Minnesota. If the recent attack in St. Cloud has not jarred us from slumber already, we need to wake up! During the Great Hinckley Firestorm of 1894, the soot blackened and fire singed train survivors of Hinckley pulled into nearby Sandstone and wildly implored the locals on the platform to get on the train to save their lives, as the monster fire was fast approaching their town. But the human weakness to deny the obvious signs of impending disaster caused most to ignore the pleas, and they and their families were horribly incinerated. For the fire victims in Sandstone, time ran out. You still have time to act:

1. Talk to everyone you know about this problem. For the love of God and family, if you are skeptical about this revelation, please verify.

Then politely call your Senators and your U.S. Congressman's offices. Remember, the staffers answering the phones are well intentioned, but because political correctness has so subverted higher education, many can master vacuous apps on their smart phones, but can't tell you the capital of Canada or know our nation's history. If they are disrespectful, then get their names and document what they say. Only Americans should be driving our trucks, and those Americans driving hazardous materials should be armed as are sky marshals. It may be one of these truckers and a Glock that keeps a terrorist from highjacking a deadly truck cargo. Why isn't the federal government recruiting our veterans as truck drivers by giving them and their employers tax breaks?

2. Don't give to any organizations that are part of the problem. Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Services come to mind. Some church leadership fail to shepherd; and their sheep are vulnerable to slaughter. That is evil.

3. Exercise your second amendment right, practice simplicity, grow your own food as possible, and develop mutual aid with your neighbors; we need each other.

4. Stand behind your local law enforcement and tell them so. They are being savagely attacked.

5. Vote. One candidate is crass, while the other one belongs in jail for her shameful disregard of common sense and communications security. Everything she has touched while Secretary of State went to crap: Iraq, Egypt, Libya, and Syria, to name of few diplomatic disasters. Vote then for that candidate who is disliked by both party leaderships and the very ruling economic elite that created the mess we have in the first place. A vote for him is not about him; it is about our utter disgust with the looting and vandalism of our country by those in Washington D.C.

6. Spend more time with the children or grandchildren and teach them how to think critically. Critical thinking may inoculate them from the current scourge of politically correctness. We also need to form them in Christian virtue. Tougher times are coming.

Aurelia Sundermann

Obituaries Marion T. Schulzetenberg Marion T. Schulzetenberg, age 92 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

Thursday, November 3 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating.

Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Melrose.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose.

Marion Theresa Bringe was born June 9, 1924 in Melrose, Minnesota to Otto and Rose (Meyer) Bringe. During her high school years, Marion was an exceptional student, played the organ for Masses at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and worked at the Melrose Telephone Company. Upon graduation from Melrose High School, she obtained a nursing degree at the College of St. Catherine and began work as an RN in Ogden, Utah for several years before returning to Melrose to work as a nurse at the Melrose Hospital.

Marion was united in marriage to Urban Schulzetenberg on June 24, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose and eventually began her career as a homemaker. She moved to Pine Haven

Nursing Home in Melrose in 2010. Marion was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, the Christian Mothers, and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 101. Marion especially enjoyed music, playing the piano and French horn, and singing in the church choir. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, bowling, playing cards, especially Bridge and 500, watching Jeopardy, playing Scrabble, and volunteering her services at the blood bank.

Survivors include her children, Alan (Daria) Schulzetenberg of Melrose and their daughter, Grace, Amy Grider of Maple Grove and her sons, Cory and Bennett, Kurt Schulzetenberg of St. Paul and his children, Aaron and Elliana, Carl (Lori) Schulzetenberg of Avon and their sons, Andy, Eric, and Aaron; two greatgrandchildren; brother, Charles “Dick” (Rose) Bringe of Eugene, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Urban on February 12, 2010; parents; brothers and sisters, Arthur Bringe, Luella Trisko, Esther Hinnenkamp, Robert Bringe, Margaret Hawn, Rose Marie “Jimmy” Foster, Dan Bringe, and Clara Mae Cogswell; and an infant sister, Mabel.

Serving as casket bearers will be Cory Grider, Bennett Grider, Andy Holmbo, Eric Schulzetenberg, Aaron Schulzetenberg, and Carter Holmbo. Cross bearer will be Grace Schulzetenberg and scripture bearer will be Alan Schulzetenberg.

A u r e l i a Sundermann, age 88 of Melrose, passed away October 28, 2016 at Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade, Minnesota surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m.

Monday, Oct. 31st at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking presiding. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery following the service.

Aurelia Catherine Bertram was born March 21, 1928 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Katherine (Hemmesch) Bertram. She was united in marriage to Roman Sundermann on January 31, 1948. The couple farmed northwest of Melrose. Aurelia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and volunteered with the St. Mary’s Mission Group there for many years. Aurelia was also a member of the Christian Mothers. Aurelia enjoyed

Jean Nell Peterson

Jean Nell Peterson, age 101 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 2 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Dave Nelson officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery in Royalton.

Eugenia Nell Carnes was born April 18, 1915 in Royalton, Minnesota to J.N. and Nell (Wakefield) Carnes. After graduating from high school, Jean worked as a dental assistant for her brotherin-law, Dr. Earl McGonagle, DDS and Doctors A.M. and Sidney Watson, M.D. in Royalton. She was united in marriage to Herbert Peterson on August 12, 1943 at the Congressional Church in Little Falls.

Jean then worked at Loretta’s Dress Shop in Little Falls.

Jean’s love of music was evident at a very young age. She was blessed with an ear for music. Humming and singing were a constant throughout each day.

various choirs. She was very involved in her community and spent many years babysitting and caring for children. She enjoyed gardening and canning and taking care of all creatures, great and small. She also enjoyed playing cards, entertaining and spending time with family and friends.

She especially loved setting a beautiful table and arranging her floral centerpiece each morning. Jean was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle and was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church in Royalton, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Royalton and Little Falls.

Survivors include her daughter, Gloria (Clinton) Moran of Waite Park; granddaughters, Laura (Jason) Moening of Freeport and Rebecca (Eric) Kingston of Tioga, North Dakota; great-grandchildren, Noah and Grace Moening, Amanda and Julia Kingston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Peterson on July 29, 1987; parents; brother, Norris “Bud” Carnes; and sisters, Edleen McGonagle, Emily Lambert, and Helen “Dee” Tillotson.

Serving as casket bearers were Laura and Jason Moening and Rebecca and Eric Kingston.

Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Grey Eagle.

Aurelia is survived by her husband, Roman Sundermann; daughters, Jonie Sundermann of Sauk Centre and Jane (Scott) Keppers of Holdingford; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Clarence Bertram of Spring Hill; sisters, Ann Hinnenkamp of Sauk Centre and Catherine Lieser of Plymouth.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Jim Sundermann on December 2, 1996; brothers, Leo, Nick, and Al Bertram; sisters, Mary Lieser, Loretta Lieser, and infant sister, Theresa Bertram.

Serving as casket bearers were Jason Keppers, Eric Keppers, Kyle Keppers, Mark Boecker, Peter Hinnenkamp, and Ben Hinnenkamp. Holly Keppers was the cross bearer and JoAnn Hartung was the scripture bearer. Holly Keppers prayed the petitions. Communion gift bearers were Eric Keppers and Kyle Keppers.

Mass servers were Kim Meyer and Sarah Meyer.

Everyone was poor in the 1930’s. Those on the farm did some odd jobs and sold unneeded items to create some cash. They raised some pigs, chickens, sheep, cows and a garden to supply the families food needs. Chickens were butchered throughout the year. A cow, a pig or a sheep was butchered in the fall when the cold weather would allow the meat to keep without spoilage. It was felt that if there were potatoes and meat in storage, they would be able to make it through the winter.

The rural residents needed to have some form of entertainment during the difficult financial times. Barn dances began to appear in the early 30’s.

They were held in an unused barn or shed that had space for dancing. Since these facilities were not heated, dances were held during the warmer months.

They were held on Saturday nights.

The entertainment was usually two individuals that could play musical instruments. The dance would last until 2 or 3 AM. Admission was $.25 for the fellows and the gals were not charged an admission fee. These barn dances occurred during the time of prohibition, so some moon was sold in the area. There were also biscuits, cakes,

for $.25. Those who were too tired to return to their homes slept in the hay barn until the next day.

With the repeal of prohibition, barn dances faded away, since it was then possible to go to a liquor establishment.

The liquor establishment usually had ice for the drinks, restroom facilities and were less dirty and dusty.

Education was offered by the local rural school. If a student wanted to attend high school, and they had attended a rural school, they were required to pass state board tests prior to high school admission. If they had attended a town school, the state board tests were not required. Busing to the high school usually required a walk of more than a mile to get to the bus. This walk reduced the number of students attending school.

The family’s father was a carpenter.

Lumber in the 1930’s consisted of home-sawed boards, which were usually not cut square and may be somewhat crooked. The carpenter had to square and straighten the lumber with an ax and cut the correct lengths with a hand saw. Most of the lumber was white oak, which is about the hardest wood to work with. (I will attest to the fact that it is virtually impossible to drive a nail into a white oak plank.) This labor intensive occupation was not attractive to Ray and John. They were not certain what would be their life’s work, but as with most of us, the world forms and fits us for our future.

We cannot begin to understand their contributions to our way of life. So we shouldn’t pass up an opportunity to show our gratitude and respect. And if you have the capacity, hire a vet!

Veterans Day is a significant American holiday. It is so important that you’ll never have to search for it on the calendar – it happens every year on November 11. I hope you take the time to thank a vet that day. With nearly 22 million living veterans, you shouldn’t have to look very far.

At the time David offered this prayer there were some who were trying to kill him, humiliate him, put him to shame and take delight in the problems he was facing. Some of his closest friends threatened to destroy him. He was disappointed. He felt empty and forsaken. Those whom he had trusted betrayed him and those whom he had helped turned against him. This happens to us all.

David felt empty, broken, alone and forgotten by everyone but his Lord. So, he did what he always did: he turned to God during a critical life-crisis begging for immediate assistance. He knew that God alone could and would help him, save him, sustain him and shield him from harm. We, too, do the same.

But in the midst his cry for help, David did as he always did: he praised God. Tucked away in the middle of this “Arrow Prayer” David said, “May those who long for Your saving help always say, ‘The Lord is Great.’”

What a wonderful lesson for each of us. When we face moments of distress let us never forget God’s greatness!

Determining a fair farm rent agreement is a challenge in today’s economy with current significantly lower corn and soybeans prices in 2016 compared to recent record corn and soybean prices and record farm land values.

Negotiating a fair rental agreement that satisfies the land owner and the farmer is a challenge. David Bau, Pauline Van Nurden, Gary Hachfeld and Nathan Hulinsky, Extension Educators in Ag Business Management, will provide several ways; by examples, factsheets and worksheets to determine a fair farm land rental rate for both parties.

Topics covered at the meetings will include local historic and projected farmland rental rate trends, current farm land values and sales, a worksheet that will help determine a fair rental agreement. Input costs for 2017 will be pre-

sented along with current 2017 corn and soybean prices. Worksheets will examine 2017 costs and what is affordable rent that a farmer will be able to pay in 2017, the rate of return to the landlord at current market values and examine flexible rental agreements.

Make plans to attend one of these meetings now. Attendees will receive several informative worksheets and factsheets that will help to determine what is a fair 2017 farm land rental rate is.

The prize covers just the cruise tickets, and we have to pay for everything else.

The problem is that my wife and I currently have more than $50,000 in debt, not counting our home, and about $10,000 of that is in collections. We’re trying to fix our finances and start saving money, but we just don’t feel like we should take a trip right now. How do I tell my boss?

-Ricky Dear Ricky, First, let me say how proud I am of you and your wife. Most people would be really irresponsible in a position like this and simply borrow more money to take the trip. The fact that you’re behaving like mature adults tells me you’re on your way to getting out of debt and solving your financial problems.

I’ve got to wonder, is there a lot of pressure from your company to go on this trip? I understand the benefits of team building and socializing with colleagues, but when you have no savings and are that deep in debt — and a chunk of that includes some in collections — it’s no lie to say you can’t afford to go. A decent company will understand.

Just sit down with your boss or owner, and explain why you can’t make it happen right now. You don’t have to unload all the details, but let them know that you can’t do something like this in good conscience when you’re trying to get your finances under control and already owe a lot of money.

That’s one heck of a temptation you’re standing up to, Ricky. I love that you and your wife are on the same page and have made the decision to take control of your finances together!

I teach people how to stay out of debt and build wealth. And there’s always one thing I remind folks of when it comes to buying anything — if you can’t afford to pay cash for the whole thing, then you can’t afford it. The only thing I back off on is when it comes to buying a house.

I love shiny things that go fast, and so do a lot of people who work here at my office. Right now, there are about six or seven motorcycles sitting in our parking lot, and they’re owned by folks who make good money. And the bikes sitting out there probably range in value from about $1,000 to $10,000. But you know what? Whoever rode in on the $1,000 bike had just as much fun as the one who owns the $10,000 bike.

A motorcycle is a toy, and you should always pay cash for toys if you want to be wealthy one day. Having lots of payments and handing your paychecks over to the bank is not the way to build wealth. I would advise talking to the guy at the bike shop to see if you can rework this deal for a ride you can actually afford!

Hunters Reminded Registering Deer is Important and Required Hunters are reminded to register deer before processing, before antlers are removed and within 48 hours after taking the animal, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

“Every hunter who registers their deer is providing important information and playing a critical role in our ability to scientifically manage deer populations,” said Adam Murkowski, DNR big game program leader. “Deer can be registered with a phone call, online or in person, with the exception of southeastern Minnesota during the firearms seasons, where in-person registration will be required.”

Before registering a deer, hunters must validate their site tag. The validated tag must be attached to the deer when the deer is placed on a motor vehicle or an ATV, a vehicle or a trailer being towed by an ATV or brought into a camp, yard or other place of habitation.

Phone registration: Register deer via phone by calling 888-706-6367. Directions are printed on each deer hunting license. Have a pen or permanent marker ready. A confirmation number will be given; it must be written on the license and site tag.

Internet registration: Register deer via internet at www.mndnr.gov/gameregistration. Directions will be similar to phone registration, and a confirmation number must be written on the license and site tag.

In-person registration: When phone or internet registration is not possible, hunters must take their deer to a biggame registration station. The person whose name appears on the license must be present at the registration station with their deer. They will receive a big-game possession tag that must be attached to the hind leg, ear or antler where the site tag was attached. A list of all stations organized by city and county is available at any DNR wildlife office or at www.mndnr.gov/hunting/deer.

In-person registration will be re-

quired in deer permit areas 339 to 349, an area that includes nearly all the 300 series permit areas, during the 3A and 3B firearms deer seasons while the DNR samples deer for chronic wasting disease (CWD). More information on CWD sampling and registration locations is at www.mndnr.gov/cwd.

In all areas, hunters are allowed to transport deer out of the permit area where the deer were taken before registering the deer. However, during registration, the hunter must use the permit area number where the deer was harvested; using the wrong deer permit area for registration is illegal. Registration instructions for all methods are available at www.mndnr. gov/gameregistrationhelp.

Through registration, hunters provide important information on deer, an animal that is significant not only ecologically, but also socially and economically in Minnesota. Hunting and wildlife watching generate more than $1.3 billion in annual economic impact in the state.

Although deer populations vary in density from place to place and year to year and are influenced by the severity of winter weather, the DNR strives to manage deer for the benefit of everyone through habitat management, regulated hunting seasons, research and planning.

Deer registration is one of many ways that citizens help.

Motorists should watch for deer in November, which is the peak time for deer-vehicle crashes in the state, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The main reason for the increase in vehicle crashes is that the deer mating season occurs in November. Increased deer movement coupled with a reduction in daylight hours increase drivers’ chances of encountering deer on road-

Deer are more likely to be encountered in areas where habitat is close to the roadway, such as a bridge crossing over waterways, and during the early morning and evening hours when deer are most active.

From 2013 to 2015, there were 6,149 reported deer-vehicle crashes, according to the Department of Public Safety. There were 15 fatalities and 986 injury crashes. Crashes were reported in every county in the state.

For those driving on Minnesota roadways, MnDOT offers these tips: • Be particularly alert in the fall and spring. More than half of the crashes happen in late October and November when deer are mating, and in May and June during the birthing season.

• Be vigilant at dusk and at dawn. A high percentage of crashes occur during the low-light or dark hours of the day

• Slow down and scan the sides of the road and ditches for animals when driving through forested lands or near river and stream banks. Especially drive with caution in marked deer-crossing zones and along roads surrounded by farmland or forests.

• Drive defensively and expect the unexpected. If you see a deer near the road, slow down because it might dart in front of you. If you see one deer, look for the next one. Deer often travel together but single file.

• Don’t swerve. While it may seem like the right thing to do, swerving to avoid a deer could cause you to lose control or travel into the path of another vehicle. Striking a deer is safer than colliding with another vehicle or a tree.

Stay in your lane, brake firmly and hold onto the steering wheel.

October 26, 2016: At 21:42 Derek John Rech (25) of rural Burtrum called the TCSO and reported hitting a deer on Co Rd 104 approximately 2 miles west of State HWY 28.

Rech and his juvenile son were uninjured but the 2004 Dodge truck he was driving sustained front end damage.

On 10/26/16, between 10:30 AM and 5:30 PM unknown individual/individuals entered her residence and stole some prescription medication. October 30, 2016: At 13:51 Todd County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle rollover on County 2 near the intersection of County 99. Joseph Lemke, 17 of Freeport, and a juvenile passenger were traveling East bound when the vehicle hit the shoulder of the roadway while navigating a curve. The vehicle then was over corrected and proceeded to roll. Minor injuries were reported.

23 LPGE students took part in the Alexandria Technical College Business and Industry Tour October 27th. They toured with Brenton Manufacturing in Carlos, MN, they specialize in packaging machines. Students then toured Alexandria Technical College and visited the Welding, Diesel Mechanics, Powersports, Machining, Carpentry, and Engineering departments. The students asked many questions about careers in these fields. Mother of Mercy Senior Living receives blessing on their New Campus Building

By Jan Theisen Mother of Mercy Senior Living celebrated their new campus addition last Friday with Fr. Robert Rolfes, Vicar General, of the St. Cloud Diocese and Fr. Cletus Connors of Seven Dolors parish, with a blessing of the new building and all those who live and work there.

The site of the new building has history dating back to 1954. The former convent building was constructed for the Sisters of Saint Benedict, for the nuns teaching at Holy Family School.

2015 brought renewed life to the space as construction began on the new building to serve our seniors of Central Minnesota.

The base relief sculpture of Saint Benedict originally was displayed on the exterior of the convent is now placed in the entrance of the building. The Latin words “orate labora” translated as “Pray and Work.”

Maintenance workers are busy putting the final touches to the building including placing the sign near the entrance of the building.

Grace Court, enhanced assisted living and Tranquility Place, memory care will have 24 apartments. The lower level is home to Grins and Giggles day-care.

A November 19 open house is being planned from 1-3 p.m.
