You can’t buy a good reputation -By Harvey Mackay Many years ago, there was a famous general who was known as a cunning strategist.

At the end of one conflict, he stopped with a small battalion of soldiers to rest. One of his enemies heard of his refuge and marched his entire army toward the general’s encampment.

The general’s aide woke him up in the middle of the night and warned him that the enemy was close and would be there before dawn. The general knew his tiny band of soldiers would be no match for the army, so he ordered his men to open the gates and hide. Then he donned a cloak and started playing a mandolin as the enemy army approached.

The enemy leader ordered his forces to halt. He knew the general’s reputation for wily deeds and deadly traps. Unwilling to take a risk, the leader ordered his forces to retreat.

Such is the power of a good reputation.

My father Jack always used to tell me, “You spend your whole lifetime building a good name and reputation, and one foolish act can destroy it.”

I took his words to heart, and aside from building long-term relationships, there is nothing more important than a good reputation in building a successful business. If you don't have a positive reputation, it is virtually impossible to be successful.

Reputation is one of the few assets that your competition cannot undersell or destroy.

You can’t put a price on a good reputation.

Reputation doesn’t happen overnight.

It takes time. But if you do the right thing consistently, you will build a great reputation.

Reputation is never completely secured – it is being continually earned.

A good reputation depends on many factors: quality products, honesty and fairness in dealing with customers and employees, following through, keeping your promises, not cutting corners, and never ever sacrificing your integrity. No amount of profit is worth risking a bad reputation.

There are many people who were at the top of their game when they made one fatal mistake – due to poor judgment, arrogance or the inability to do the right thing. Reputations are destroyed, and all the money in the world can't buy them back.

And then you are faced with the really difficult task of repairing the damage.

Regaining trust requires rebuilding all the bridges you burned. It’s like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube, except a whole lot harder. People are reluctant to trust an organization that took advantage of them.

Why gamble with your future? Is it worth risking your business, your friendships, and your good name over one selfish decision?

As one of the most successful businesspeople in the world, Warren Buffett, said: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you’ll do things differently.”

Think about who you do business with and why. As the old saying goes, would you buy a used car from that guy?

I was fascinated by a study where pollsters asked more than 16,000 people to pick the companies and brands they felt had the best reputations. Can you imagine the goodwill from making the list of the top seven – Patagonia, Costco, John Deere, Trader Joe’s, Chick-fil-A, Toyota Motor Corporation and Samsung.

Those are major players. But smaller operations must work just as hard to maintain their place in the public eye. It doesn’t matter if you are the only grocery store in town, or

the only plumber, or the only law firm – if people have no other local choice – how you perform and how you treat your clientele will determine whether you will be in business tomorrow.

Word of mouth is not just from person to person. In the era of the internet, online reputation is everything. Your Google results shape widespread opinion of your company and brand. For example, 95% of customers browse online reviews before making a purchase, 50% of consumers will question a brand’s competency if they have negative reviews, and 69% of job seekers won’t take a job with a company that has a bad reputation.

If those statistics don’t concern you, read them again.

Considering all you have to lose, is it worth taking a chance that no one will notice if you let your guard down just this once? The example you set resonates throughout your organization. If you want people to follow the leader, act like one.

Mackay’s Moral: Sometimes it takes only an hour to get a reputation that lasts for a thousand years.

“The Good Old Days” -By Tom Kuehne Veterans Day

of our country's citizens don't remember a day as Armistice Day, since in their lifetimes only Veterans Day has been celebrated.

I remember, as a child, Armistice Day being remembered as a day when the adults acted as they would if there had been a death in the family. Not that it was a Patriotic thing to do, but by preserving memories of those who came home after serving their country and those that didn't.

Then along came Armistice Day of 1940.

A weather day that probably takes the place of any other winter weather event in the lives of those that experienced it. Our weather reporting was much less comprehensive than it is today.

My Dad told of putting on a worn out overhaul jacket, four buckle overshoes and a cap to walk about ¼ mile to the neighbors slew to get some wild ducks. He got a couple of ducks and since it was not yet noon, he walked another few hundred yards to check for ducks on the lake.

On his return to the farm, the weather suddenly became cooler and the wind started blowing.

The snow began and by the time he got home, he was really cold. The snow became heavy and the wind gusts were between 50 and 80 miles per hour. The storm continued until the end of the following day. It snowed over 2 feet deep and some drifts were 20 feet deep. In northern Minnesota, a passenger train became stuck in the snow and remained stuck for 7 days. Since there were at that time no snowmobiles, the needed food and medicines were carried on foot to the train, which was about 10 miles from town. Most of the accumulation stayed through the winter. There were 154 deaths as a result of the storm.

This past weekend we again celebrated Veterans Day. The original name for the day was Armistice Day. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the participants in the First World War signed an agreement to stop trying to kill each other. For 4 years there had been an almost continuous firing of rifles, machine guns and artillery at opponents.

Much of the time the battles consisted of hiding in trenches, peeking over the edge and hoping that one could see an opponent and hoping that an opponent didn't see you and get off a shot before you could shoot at him. There were incidents when one side would charge out of their trenches and attempt to overrun the enemy trenches. As one can imagine, this action caused a large number of casualties. There was an almost continual shelling of the enemy trenches, causing large explosions, killing and injuring the occupants. The sad part of these actions was that they actually didn't cause the battle lines to change. It was simply the continual creation of casualties on both sides.

Germany asked the opponents for an armistice because their population was starving and there was a fear that their government would fail and Communism would take over. Germany felt that they would be treated more fairly with an armistice than a surrender. A surrender would have allowed their enemies to actually take over their country, which they hoped to avoid.

A look back may cause us to think that maybe the Second World War wouldn't have begun the way it did if they had been forced to surrender.

No way to relive history, just learn from it.

Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day in 1954. The reason was that by changing the name, it would be easier to include the veterans that fought in WWII and Korea. Many

From the Desk of Pastor Bruce I have a “cartoon” picture of a duck hanging from my bookshelf in my office. A few years ago, a mother handed it to me and said that her daughter (4 years old) gave it to her and said “This is a pastor duck, his name is Pastor Bruce, will you send it to him?” Haha, the mother asked her if it was a pastor because he was wearing a tie, the girl said. Yes! Kids are very impressionable for sure, but my thought-provoking question for this week is; What sort of thing are people in general going to remember you by? Are they going to remember more what you wore, or maybe they will think about your language, or the way you acted when you lost your temper. My hope is that people will remember me for my godly character.

I have been known as the pastor who builds! But am I giving people a solid foundation? Am I training people in righteousness, for acts of service? I would rather be known for the pastor who builds character. So, this week consider what someone might say at your funeral.

In just a couple of days of writing this article, I will be performing my father-in-law’s funeral, so I have given this a lot of thought.

There are several scriptures that talk about having a good character. 2 Peter 1:5-7 says “For this very reason, make every effort to add to

Obituaries

Arnold Czech

Arnold Czech, 89 year old resident of Upsala, MN, passed away on Monday, November 13 at Upsala Senior Living. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 18 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala with Father Jimmy Joseph officiating.

The burial will be held at St. Edward's Catholic Cemetery in Elmdale, MN. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of the service on Saturday. A Rosary will be said at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday at the church.

Arnold P. Czech was born in Elmdale, MN on March 28, 1934 to the late Tom and Helen (Jendro) Czech. Arnie attended school at District #1184 in Elmdale along with Onamia and Upsala.

After his schooling he served in the United States Army for two years in the 1950's. He was a member of the Bowlus American Legion Post.

Arnie worked many various jobs throughout his lifetime, including bartending at the Elmdale Liquor Store that his dad and brother owned and operated. He worked in many other areas in Minnesota, including the Twin Cities and around the country. His last job was at Camp Ripley at the Amo Dump for over ten years. Arnie spent most of his later adult life farming the farm that his grandparents once owned and later moved to the Swanville Apartments. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, playing pool, playing cards and watching the Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, many polka and country music shows, as well as visiting his friends and relatives in Elmdale and the surrounding area.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Dorothy (special friend, Donny) Stanek; he was a wonderful uncle to his nephews and nieces, Jim (Theresa) Czech, Mary Carol Czech, Gerald (Karrie) Czech, Michael (Mary) Czech, John (Alma) Czech, Cheryl Plourde, Annette (Rick) Calendine, Laura (Paul) Ventrella, RJ (Angie) Stanek as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; very special friends, Kelly (Thomas) and Aliceona; The care givers at the Swanville apartments and Upsala Senior Living that he loved right up until his death.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leonard; sister-in-law, Joan and brotherin-law, Ron Stanek.

Dennis J. Biniek, age 71 of Bowlus, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, November 13, 2023 at his home in Bowlus, Minnesota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala with Rev. Jimmy Joseph officiating. Inurnment will be held at St. Edward’s Cemetery in Elmdale. Military Honors will be by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala. The Knights of Columbus will pray at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the church.

Dennis John Biniek was born October 18, 1952 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Frank and Martha (Hanfler) Biniek. He grew up on the family farm near Elmdale and attended country school through the sixth grade. Dennis then attended Upsala Area School where he graduated in 1970. Dennis joined the U.S. Navy in 1971 and served on three tours during Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Joseph Strauss. He was honorably discharged in July of 1973.

He was united in marriage to Sharelin “Shari” Langner on August 16, 1975 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Holdingford.

Dennis worked at the Elmdale Creamery driving can route and worked in the meat room from 1974 through 1979. He bought his dad’s farm and raised cattle and pigs until 1979 when he built a dairy barn and milked for 32 years.

Dennis semi retired, then raised calves to steers for ten years.

He was an active member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale serving ten years on the parish council, Knights of Columbus, and served many years on the Elmdale Creamery board. Dennis was an avid sports fan who loved watching his sons play amateur baseball, fantasy football, and fishing with Shari, his sons, and grandsons, the joys of his life. He also enjoyed deer hunting, casinoing, playing cards, and playing baseball with the little guys. Dennis was the one the grandsons always ran to with a book to read. He loved meeting people and could start a conversation with anyone. Dennis always had to have a hug when saying goodbye. He had a special bond with his oncology girls; he held a special place in his heart for them and he always made sure he got a hug from them too.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Shari Biniek of Bowlus; sons, Derek Biniek of Sartell, Trent (Kristina) Biniek of Crystal, and Dustin (Greta) Biniek of Bowlus; five grandchildren, Waylon, Levi, Bo, Milo, and Josie; brother, Don Biniek of Bowlus; sister, Pat Janey of Brooklyn Park; sister-in-law, Margy Biniek of Sartell; and many loving relatives and friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Marcie; sister, Marlene Wood; brother, Robert “Bob” Biniek; sisterin-law, Marlys Biniek; and brothers-in-law, Raymond “Ray” Janey and Doug Wood.

Frank J. Kramer

Frank J. “Frankie” Kramer age 82 of Long Prairie, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at the CentraCare Health in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

Friday, November 17 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Burial will be at the parish cemetery with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church in Sauk Centre.

Frank Joseph Kramer was born April 3, 1941 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Frank and Frances (Gettel) Kramer. He attended country school and later enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorable discharge due to an injury. Returning home, Frank started working at Franklin in St. Cloud for a few years before working at Westman Silo Company. Frank married Pearl Heinz in August of 1966 and they later divorced. Soon after, Westman Silo Company closed their doors and Frank moved to the Twin Cities where he worked various jobs including Canterbury Downs and Shakopee Valley Printing. After a few years, he moved back to the Long Prairie area and went back to work and retired from Electrolux in St. Cloud.

In August of 1990, he married Gloria Crebbe at their home in Long Prairie.

Frank enjoyed learning about history, especially the World War II period. He enjoyed hunting with his brother, LeRoy, and family, as well as tinkering around the house and doing yardwork.

Frank was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and a lifetime member of NRA, National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Kramer of Long Prairie; sons, Scott (Tammy) Kramer of Waite Park and Gary Kramer of Long Prairie; daughter, Kimberly (Andrew) Sandy of Eagle Bend; grandchildren, Nicole (Quinn) Rhoda, Amanda Kramer, and Courtney Peine, Kandi Eiynk and Kody Eiynk (fiancé, Casey), Leslie (Justin) Sandy-Rinde, Alexander Sandy, and Brianna Sandy (fiancé, Nick Brown); 21 greatgrandchildren; step-daughters, Pollyanne (James) Lombardi of Michigan and Tammy Lynn (Dennis) Fischer of Florida; former wife, Pearl Kramer of Long Prairie; brother, LeRoy (Mary) Kramer of Long Prairie; and sister, Darlene Becker of Mahnomen.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Cassandra Jean Kramer; twin grandsons, Scott and Shaun Kramer; two greatgrandchildren; stepson, Burton “Buck” Hittle, Jr.; and one infant brother.

Darwin Binek

The Mass and Christian Burial, celebrating the life of Darwin Binek, age 71 of Upsala will be at 11:00 am, Friday, November 17 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Darwin passed away at the St. Otto’s Care Center on Tuesday, November 7. There will be a visitation from 4-7 PM, Thursday, November 16, and again after 10:00 AM, Friday, before the funeral.

Darwin was born December 19, 1951, in Little Falls to Theodore and Rose Mary (Ramler) Binek. He grew up in Upsala and spent his life there as a dairy farmer. He was an auctioneer, and co-owner of Swanville Feeder Pig and worked at Granite City Livestock.

Darwin is survived by his mother, Rose Mary Binek, Little Falls; his children; Brad Binek, Upsala; Jody Binek, Elk River; Tracy (Matt) Merda, McKinney, TX; and Scott (Sarah) Binek, Holdingford; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother and sisters; Gary (Mary) Binek, Baxter; Judy Mrosla, Fargo, ND; Janice (Mike) Kiley, St. Joseph; Deb Zimmermann, Florida; Kim Binek, Little Falls and his significant other, Kathy Hennek, Little Falls.

He is preceded in death by his father, Theodore Binek in 2008 and his brother, Richard Binek in 1971.

Kurt James Klaphake

Kurt James Klaphake, age 56 of Harding, Minnesota, formerly of New Munich, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 18 at the PattonSchad Funeral Home in Melrose.

Kurt was born on February 13, 1967 in Melrose, Minnesota to Harold and Elizabeth “Bettie” Klaphake. Kurt worked at various jobs before working at Eagle Construction of Little Falls for many years. Most recently, he worked at Collins Brothers Towing of St. Cloud where he drove truck hauling equipment.

He enjoyed working/tinkering with anything, making something out of nothing.

Kurt liked playing football with Brutus, his dog while Junia, his other dog watched.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Rae; sons, Shane Klaphake and Collin Klaphake; siblings, Tim (Teresa) Klaphake, Denise Klaphake, and Mark (Jody) Klaphake; and many nieces, nephews, and family.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Elizabeth “Bettie” Klaphake; grandparents; and numerous family and friends.

The 96th Annual National FFA convention was held in Indianapolis, IN. Nov.1-4th at the Indianapolis Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium with 68,759 members present attending sessions, listening to keynote speakers, and the top FFA teams in the nation squared off to find out who would be named champion in their respective divisions. Among the 213 people that were recognized receiving the Honorary American FFA degree, local Long Prairie-Grey Eagle teacher and FFA advisor Curt Gjerstad was recognized for his contributions as an Agriculture teacher/FFA advisor of 28 years, (teaching in Campbell-Tintah/Wahpeton, Eagle Valley, and now LPGE).

Chairman of the State FFA Soils contest for the last 22 years, working as a Quality Assurance Officer for numerous Agri chemical companies for over 20 years, and the senior member of the region 2 FFA advisors, “This is truly an honor to be recognized for this award, and to continue to serve the public in Todd county,” stated Gjerstad.

"By taking FFA members down to the National FFA Convention shows them what can happen when you work hard, set goals, and achieve them," added Gjerstad.

It’s great if you work for a company that offers perks like that, but I want you putting 15 percent of your money into retirement. Whatever your company matches, whatever its pension may be, or even having a military retirement package, none of that enters the equation. I want your money in your name.

Baby Step 4 of my plan says to put 15 percent of your income into retirement accounts. The first thing you should put money into is a matching retirement account.

If you’ve got a 401(k), a Roth 401(k) or a 403(b) and your employer offers a match, you should do that up to the match before anything else.

You’ve got three percent of your own money already going into retirement, so then you could look at a Roth IRA. If the Roth, plus what you invested previously to get the match doesn’t equal 15 percent, then you could look at a 403(b), or go back to your 401(k) to hit the 15 percent mark.

Dear Motor Medics, I recently witnessed a vehicle fire on the highway. As I passed by in the far lane, I could not even tell what kind of car it was because it was so intense. Even in the far lane I could feel the heat of the fire. When I first saw the smoke, I must have been about two miles away but saw no flames. As I got closer, I started to see the fire bellowing from the car and by the time I passed, as I said, I could not even tell what kind of car it was. All this occurred in the period of less than two minutes. I was amazed how fast the fire spread. Are vehicle fires common and what should I do if my vehicle ever catches fire?

-David in Montrose, Colorado Dear David, First and foremost don’t panic. Think safety first, pull over and stop as fast as you can, as you witnessed, vehicle fires spread extremely fast. Get the passengers out and move to safety. If there is smoke coming from a closed compartment do not open it. The fresh air can cause a fast flare up. The many different materials in a vehicle will emit gases when burning that can quickly overcome you so even if all you see is smoke stay away from it. If you try to recover objects from the vehicle you could be harmed. Call the authorities and stay far away.

-Take care, the Motor Medics Dear Motor Medics, I’m getting ready for a trip across country and would like to get the best mileage possible. I will be traveling about 6,000 miles round trip so even one or two miles per gallon would make a noticeable difference in cost. Is there one thing I can do that will save me fuel that does not cost more than the fuel I will save by doing it? I have not done anything to my vehicle other than oil changes and air filter and I now have about 40,000 miles on the van. I used to get about 28 mpg when new and now get about 24.

A minister dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates. Ahead of him is a guy dressed in sunglasses, a loud shirt, leather jacket, and jeans.

Saint Peter says to this guy, "Who are you, so that I may know whether to admit you to the Kingdom of Heaven?"

The guy replies, "I'm Joe Cohen, taxi driver, of Noo Yawk City."

Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the taxi driver, "Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."

The taxi driver goes into Heaven with his robe and staff, and it's the minister's turn.

He stands erect and booms out, "I am Joseph Snow, pastor of Saint Mary's for the last 43 years."

Saint Peter consults his list. He says to the minister, "Take this cotton robe and wooden staff and enter the Kingdom of Heaven."

"Just a minute!" says the minister. "That man was a taxi driver, and he gets a silken robe and golden staff. How can this be?"

"Up here, we work by results," says Saint Peter. "While you preached, people slept. While he drove, people prayed."

Swanville City • October 3, 2023 Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting held in the Swanville Center on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. The meeting called to order 7:00 p.m. with the following members present: Sandy Lange, Norm Carlson, Tony Maciej, John Dragseth and Jim Molitor. Also present: Jan Schultz and Reporter Terry Lerhke, Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting Wednesday, September 5, 2023 was reviewed. A motion was made by Norm Carlson to approve the minutes. Jim Molitor seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The treasures report was given. A motion was made by Jim Molitor and seconded by John Dragseth to approve the treasurer’s report. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Jan Schultz, with Landmark Realty, presented to council a Grant of Encroachment License for the building at 316 DeGraff. Schultz stated the right of way of 4th Street is a factor in the overhang of the building and the rock wall to the south of the building and has been there for a number of years. After discussion, Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the Grant of Encroachment License for 316 DeGraff Avenue.

John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, Tony Maciej abstained, motion carried.

Nilson Hardware would like to add a 20’x36’ addition onto his existing shed. With his buildings being on the property line a variance will have to be issued. A Public Hearing meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. before the next regular monthly meeting on November 8, 2023. Letters will be sent to property owners within the store area.

Mayor Lange presented to council a Conflict-of-Interest Policy that is needed to be passed for the PFA application which the mayor is working on. After discussion, Norm Carlson made a motion to pass the Conflict-of-Interest Policy that was presented. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion passed.

North Berkey First Addition was discussed.

Council decided the price for each lot should be sold by square footage. The bond proceeds on capital projects can wait up to three years to spend so there will be the option to wait to tar roads or possibly add sidewalks.

October is fire prevention month, with that the Swanville Rural Fire Association will hold an open house on Wednesday, October 11 from 4-7:00 p.m. First Responders will be present also. Hot dogs, chips and water will be served.

Mayor Lange reviewed the safety meeting plan with council.

Mayor Lange presented an agreement with the Catalyst Company to redesign the city’s website and to host it. Tony Maciej made a motion to sign the agreement and go with the four-year contract. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. all members voted in favor, motion carried.

Resolution #23-1003a Accepting a Donation was presented from the Swanville Lions in the amount of $3,000.00 to be used toward tv service at the Swanville Park and rental toilets at the Pillsbury Beach. Jim Molitor made a motion to accept Resolution #23-1003a. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Resolution #23-1003b Accepting a Donation was then presented from the Swanville Lions in the amount of $30,000.00 to be used toward the up keep of the Swanville Park lawn and buildings. Jim Molitor made a motion to accept Resolution #23-1003b. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. Council noted they appreciate the Swanville Lions for the work they do around the community and the generous donations they make to the city.

Council discussed changing the November meeting. It was decided to change the meeting to Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. with the Public Hearing taking place at 6:45 p.m.

The following claims were presented for payment. Members of the council were furnished with a listing. Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the claims. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. in the Swanville Center. Public Hearing 6:45 p.m.

There being no further business, a motion was made by Tony Maciej and seconded by Jim Molitor to adjourn. All members voted in favor, motion carried. Meeting adjourned 8:15 p.m.

Julie Hollermann, City Clerk/Treasurer Grey Eagle Township • November 6, 2023 Call to Order: Mike Rohe called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm. The pledge of allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Mary Ann Primus, Mike Rohe, Alan Roering and John Young. Erv Herdering was also present.

Agenda Approval: A preliminary agenda was presented. Mike asked if there were additions to the agenda. John made the motion to accept the agenda, Alan made the second. All in favor. Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes: John made the motion to accept the October 2, 2023 Township minutes. Alan made the second. All in favor.

Motion passed.

Town Clerk’s Report: Clerk presented the claims list for October. Claims list included claims 3880-3893 for a total of $31,903.23.

Alan made the motion to pay the claims. John made the second. All in favor. Motion carried.

Mail included advertising, annual meeting notice, P&Z, Minnesota Power rate increase, and broadband meeting date. Alan made the motion for the clerk to attend the annual meeting in St. Cloud on Dec. 7, John made the second, all in favor, motion carried.

The financial report was presented, John made the motion to approve the financial report, Alan made the second. Motion carried.

Road and Bridge Report: John shared pictures of the tree trimming that was done, received several good comments. John suggested that the board work on a policy for tree trimming and brushing. Alan reported that the snowmobile club will move the trail along 337th to the west side of the field. John will contact Brian from Precision Sealcoating to follow up on Arden.

Culvert work has been done, shouldering on 341st, took out beaver dam. Land owners would prefer live trapping of the beavers. Sign damage- missing stop sign – John will contact GIS. Additional agenda item: Fire board meeting will be November 21, Mike will attend.

Equalization training is available for board members online before February. Broadband meeting will be held Dec. 19th at Clarissa Ballroom. John suggested the board discuss WI-FI for the hall and new hardware that may be needed.

Public Comments: None Adjourn: Motion to adjourn by Alan, second by John. All in favor. Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 8:55 pm.
