Billy Graham - the best salesperson I ever met -By Harvey Mackay O t h e r ministers told funnier jokes than Billy Graham, did a better job of illustrating Bible passages and organizing sermons, but no one was more effective than Graham in getting people to step forward in front of the congregation and make a commitment.

Translated from evangelism, that is what I call closing the sale. It’s no wonder since he started his career as a Fuller Brush salesman.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), which was headquartered in Minneapolis, was instrumental in helping me get started in the envelope manufacturing business in the 1960s. No one I’ve ever done business with has ever cared about me the way the Billy Graham organization did. And I’m Jewish. They were one of the largest envelope users in the country and were one of my biggest customers until they moved their headquarters to North Carolina 40 years later.

The BGEA earned loyalty that

no amount of money could buy. They recognized a business principle that is so elementary – If you expect the other person to care about you, show that you care about them. It’s the Golden Rule of business. Because of this relationship, the BGEA got the best quality, the best delivery and the best prices. They paid promptly, many times before I even shipped the product – absolutely unheard of in the envelope business.

No wonder I was proud to call Billy Graham a friend. Billy even honored me by providing an endorsement for my first book, “Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive.”

Graham’s personal qualities set him far apart from other evangelists. He was a man of utmost integrity and concern for people. He was always quick to point out that he was just one member of a team.

How true! Billy was the quintessential Mr. Outside. He embodied the image of the organization, both to the outside world and to the people who work at BGEA. The late George Wilson was Mr. Inside. George passed away in 1999, and I was privileged to be asked to eulogize George, along with Billy.

While Billy provided the inspiration for the BGEA, George kept the place humming.

As Mr. Inside, George was low-profile,

low-key, tireless, with an eye for talent and detail.

Most organizations need both these talents – the salesperson who brings in the business and the manager who knows what to do with it. Surprisingly many businesses don’t understand this or that those two talents seldom are found in the same person. Selling is not a function of grandiose personalities and paraphernalia.

For decades, Billy Graham was on a list of the 10 most respected Americans.

He maintained his status and high visibility by sticking to the qualities that got him there – sincerity and moral integrity. While others in his profession succumbed to the “holy wars,” Graham kept getting stronger because he was a class act.

His reputation was his greatest asset.

Not product, not price, not service.

Everything flows from reputation – closing the sale, customer loyalty and referrals. Billy was a big believer in being the best. If they did that, his organization would be first.

One of the stories that I think illustrates the real Billy Graham involved an incident that occurred while he was at a dinner with some staff members.

“The Good Old Days” -By Tom Kuehne The Railroad

Back in the later 1800’s the Railroad came to the area.

The construction project, creating the tracks and the railroad bed must have been a tremendous undertaking. The earth moving equipment that we accept as common-place just didn’t exist.

The work was done primarily with horses and manual labor. Shovels, picks, grub-hoes, dumpplanks and dump scoops removed the higher areas and transported them to the valleys and swamps. Today, looking at the abandoned trackage, we can begin to appreciate the size of the railroad creation project.

When the railroad was under construction, it was originally planned to go from Little Falls and pass through Pillsbury, which had a flour mill, which needed access to transportation for it’s products, both in and out. There is a ridge of hills on the west side of the Swan River valley by Swanville which created a problem of getting the train over the hills. As a result, the railroad went through Swanville, then went to Burtrum and on to Grey Eagle. There was a need to have freight and mail service into these communities, but there was also a need to move cattle, grain and wood to market. The change in the railroad location caused Pillsbury to become smaller and the flour mill to relocate.

The tracks and the school in Swanville were separated by a small street. The tracks were north and west of the school. The old steamers which pulled the train on the tracks were powered by coal. I remember so well the train sitting on the tracks, while the loading and unloading was being done.

We were on the playground during noon recess playing various kid games.

About that time the train was ready to get started and we knew the procedure.

A small amount of smoke would be coming out of the trains exhaust pipe, while there would be a gradually increasing hum or rumble from the engine. When the rumble had reached it’s maximum, there came a very loud woof, followed by a large cloud of smoke and soot. The wind was usually in the west or northwest, so the kids were usually dealing with the stink and crud. After the first woof a second woof followed and the subsequent woofs became closer together. As the steam in the engine increased, the whistle would let loose a couple of loud blasts, the drive wheels would begin their slippery attempt to create traction, which was needed to get the whole train in motion.

The train came through every day of the week, but I don’t know about the weekends.

we heard at the farm, which was 4 miles from the tracks. We didn’t need a watch.

The train whistle made us aware of the time for the noon meal.

The track also had another occupant.

It was called the Galloping Goose. It hauled mail and passengers between Little Falls and Morris. It was a dull green color and had one car. It was similar to an old street car. It was diesel powered and was quite quiet. It’s whistle was similar to a loud hum.

The railroad, in the early years, was a boom to Burtrum, which had a large cattle holding facility, a creamery and a large wood yard which had pulp and logs for shipment to Minneapolis. The result was hotel and banking facilities in the town.

The wood production in the area was certainly a big customer for the railroad.

over the place. Graham immediately leaped up and helped her clean up the mess.

This was a perfect example of the humanity for which he was so famous.

How many of us would reach out to another person and help her through such an embarrassing moment? Billy Graham’s act defined good manners and consideration for the feelings of others.

Networking is one of my passions, and there were few better at networking than Billy Graham. Networking is not necessarily a numbers game. The idea is not to see how many people you can meet; the idea is to compile a list of people you can count on.

When you encountered Billy at a function, he made you feel like you were the most important person in the room.

He made eye contact and kept it. He

smiled. He listened. He asked questions or made comments that showed he was interested in what you had to say.

Whether or not you agreed with his message, there was no question that Billy Graham was an icon for all that is good and right in this world.

Mackay’s Moral: Billy Graham was a master communicator, but more than that, a master of humanity.

Friends to Restore St. Mary’s News

By Jesse Lovelace On Saturday afternoon March 3, a number of volunteers from Friends to Restore St. Mary’s were cleaning off the steps of St. Mary’s Church in Melrose in preparation for the commemorative prayer vigil planned for Sunday, March 11 in remembrance of the second anniversary of the fire at St. Mary’s.

Father Marvin Enneking approached the group and ordered them to stop, because he claimed they were trespassing on private property. Fr. Enneking left and the group tried to understand what happened. They felt that they were parishioners and had every right to be on parish property, especially doing a service for their church. They were soon joined by more volunteers and they continued cleaning the steps.

Shortly thereafter, a police cruiser pulled up and an officer stepped out and politely asked the group if Fr. Enneking had asked them to stop. Fr. Enneking appeared and a vigorous verbal exchange took place. It ended when Fr. Enneking concluded that the group of step cleaners were not Christian, they could not be on the property because there is “litigation” going on, and that he intended to install a fence around the property.

All this is puzzling because Bishop Donald Kettler has consistently and adamantly insisted that the lawsuit is settled, and yet Fr. Enneking says the litigation is going on.

On Sunday, March 4, Pastor Fr.

Marvin Enneking carried out his threat to erect a fence in front of the church steps to keep parishioners from trespassing on “private” property, i.e. the steps of their own church. This fence is in addition to a chain link fence that has surrounded the damaged building for nearly two years.

On Tuesday a parishioner who is a veteran noticed that an American flag that he had fastened to the fence some time ago was now missing. He went to the city offices and found out that both fences were in violation of the city zoning code.

First, Fr. Enneking had not bothered to apply for the required permits, the second fence did not comply with the city’s setback requirements, and the original fence must be removed because it was originally intended to be a construction fence, yet no construction has taken place. The new fence was ordered to be removed by March 7 and the original fence to be removed by March 10.

In any event, the scheduled prayer vigil will occur on Sunday, March ll at 4:45 p.m. in front of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Everyone is welcome, parishioner or not, Melrose citizen or not. The preservation of a local historic landmark is everyone’s concern.

Obituaries Michael Edward Palbicki, Sr.

Michael Edward Palbicki, Sr., age 75 of Minneapolis, passed away March 1, 2018.

50 year member of Pipefitters Union Local 539.

USMC veteran and past Commander of American Legion Laidlaw Post #1 and lifetime member of VFW and DAV. Mike spent much time at the second home he built on Big Swan Lake in Grey Eagle. Over the many years a few of the hobbies he enjoyed were fishing, bird watching, attending auctions, and

gardening. He also enjoyed the many friends he made over the years and was always ready to have a cup of coffee, conversation or play cards with his buddies.

Survived by wife of 53 years Elaine; sons Mike Jr. (Rebecca), Robert (Judy) and Douglas (Becca); grandchildren Ashley, Heidi, Cody, Kyle, Lincoln, Delainey and Griffin; siblings Pat, Richard, William and Gigi; many nieces and nephews.

Angeline Rosella Jenkins was born March 21, 1919 near Osakis, Minnesota, the daughter of Ransom and Margaret (Dohman) Jenkins. She grew up in Leslie Township and attended school there. She married Myron K. Ohland on October 23, 1937 in Long Prairie, Minnesota. They made their home in Long Prairie where Angie worked for various café’s and restaurants. She later worked at National Produce and as a cook at the Long Prairie School for many years.

Angeline was a member of American Lutheran Church. She loved to dance and spend time with her family.

Angeline is survived by her children, Richard (Mary) Ohland, Blaine, MN, and Madeline Osterdyk, Mora, MN; four grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Myron on December 26, 1968, grandson Bobby, and ten brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be at 11 am Friday, March 9, 2018 at American Lutheran Church, Long Prairie for Angeline R. Ohland, age 98, of Long Prairie who passed away Thursday, March 1 at CentraCare Health Systems-Long Prairie. Rev. William Bakewicz will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Clotho. Family and friends

E v e l y n Eileen (Rust) Hovland was born on October 6, 1920, in L i s m o r e , Minnesota to William and Irene (Knips) Rust. She was the first born of four children and grew up on a farm near Lismore. Evelyn went to grade school in Lismore and graduated from Adrian Public School in 1938.

Evelyn was married January 17, 1942, at the Presbyterian Church in Wilmont, Minnesota to Leo Hovland.

The couple was blessed with four children, Jimmie, Larry, Danny and Jill.

The family lived in several communities before settling in Alexandria, Minnesota in 1957. Evelyn held a variety of jobs.

She did housework for neighbors and relatives, worked at an A&W in Denver, CO and on family farms in Minnesota, was an egg candler in Alexandria, and spent over 17 years as a nursing assistant at Bethany Home, working nights on the very floor where she lived out her last years.

Evelyn enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, photography, cooking,

traveling and visiting family. She also was a very active volunteer at First Congregational Church, U.C.C. Evelyn was very creative and generous and made countless sets of doll clothes, baby bibs and other handmade items for church bazaars and her family.

Evelyn passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 01, 2018, at Bethany Home in Alexandria at the age of 97. She is survived by her sons, Jim (Lynn) Hovland, of Tampa, FL and Dan (Marlene) Hovland of Willmar, MN; daughter, Jill (Bryan) VandenBosch of Orange City, IA; daughter-in-law, Judith Hovland of LaFayette, GA; 15 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 1 greatgreat-grandchild; sister, Lois Nienkerk of Fairmont, MN; sister-in-law, Marilyn Rust of Springdale, AR; and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Leo; son, Larry; parents, William and Irene Rust; infant sister; brother, Kenneth Rust; and brother-in-law, Merle Nienkerk.

A funeral service was held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the First Congregational U.C.C in Alexandria with Reverend Scott Keehn officiating.

Interment was held in Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.

Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.

GE UMC celebrates 10 years in building March 11, 140 years in the community

By Robert Kutter March 11, 2018, marks the 10th anniversary of worshiping in the GE UMC’s current building. To celebrate the occasion, the worship committee has planned some special additions to worship that day. A narrated slide show of the church’s 140 year history, commu-

nion and music will mark the congregations’ life in the Grey Eagle community.

The celebration will continue following the 9 a.m. worship during fellowship time with a special anniversary cake, and continuous slide show. The community is invited to share in this special occasion and reminisce about the past.

It costs about $30 a month per person, and the full payout if you’re laid off is $9,000. It seems to me you would have to be paying in for a long time to see that kind of return, so I wanted to see how you feel about this kind of thing.

Statistically speaking, if lots of people cashed in on a policy like this an insurance company would go out of business. We’re talking about only $30 a month to cover $9,000. That alone tells you not many people cash in. It’s gimmick insurance.

On average, you’re losing money when you buy insurance of any kind.

Again, on average, over the scope of your lifetime you’d be better off simply saving money and self-insuring against things like this. The only things I recommend buying insurance for are things you can’t

Growing Gardens in Upsala

Students at Upsala Elementary are growing in more ways than one. A month ago, each grade planted a row of seeds in vertical gardens. Kids were very excited as they planted the seeds. Some had experience with gardening at home so they knew the seeds would grow and all had learned about seeds in their classes.

Kids planted basil, thyme, dill, broccoli, cilantro, peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, kale, beans, spinach and lots and lots of lettuce. The lettuce grew very well.

Some seeds did not germinate and were replanted.

Sixth grade students did the first harvest last Thursday, March 1. They had a salad snack which include the harvested greens and things kids brought from home to accompany the salad. Bon appetit!

God Himself put a curiosity within each of us to ask questions and seek answers. If we did not have a capacity to question things, we would not be human. Remember, it was God who said, “You will find me when You seek me with all your heart.”

Legislative Update -By State Rep. Ron Kresha

By State Rep. Ron Kresha During the 2017 legislative session, opioid abuse prevention pilot projects to determine the cause of opioid abuse, as well as to allow hospitals to examine pain treatments beyond opioid prescriptions, were funded by the legislature. In the months ahead, we will pursue additional legislation in order to further our current efforts fighting Minnesota’s opioid crisis and reducing its devastating effects.

While we can authorize funding and enact policies in order to combat opioid abuse in the legislature, these problems could not be solved were it not for the important work carried out by those that deal directly with these issues on a daily basis. With Opioid Awareness Day recently taking place at the Capitol, I wanted to emphasize the outstanding work being carried out by Little Falls’ CHI St. Gabriel’s Controlled Substance Care Team.

The Controlled Substance Care Team has been an early leader on the front lines in our state’s opioid abuse prevention efforts. From opioid prescriptions and supply, to treatment and education, the group takes a broad

approach to countering this crisis by focusing on all aspects of the problem.

The group’s program first began a few years ago with physicians more closely monitoring the volume of opioids they were prescribing. By zeroing in on why unused opioids remain accessible, they have been able to greatly reduce the number of excess opioids that can be abused or sold by patients. More recently, the program has also focused on delivering treatment to individuals already battling addiction, including treatment drugs and counseling.

In addition to the commendable work they have carried out in our area in recent years, the program aims to make a difference across the state though its emphasis on educating other rural clinics. Through their adoption of “Project ECHO,” the group has prioritized educating numerous clinics throughout Minnesota on strategies to combat opioid abuse and prevent these tragic deaths.

The much needed lift CHI St. Gabriel’s team has provided has unquestionably made a difference in our communities. Their efforts exist as a model for our state’s treatment clinics to replicate, and I want to thank them for the crucial steps they have taken towards countering opioid abuse and ultimately helping to save lives.

Judges who found, “posting of God’s Ten Commandments in schools, and even county government public places, unconstitutional.” Judges who also ruled prayer and teaching God’s Word in public schools unconstitutional.

Judges who are prohibited from interfering in religious matters by the First Constitutional Amendment!

That Amendment, which ensures freedom of religion, speech, the press, and the right to peaceably assemble, was intended to keep the federal government off these matters.

The overreach of the Supreme Court has gone uncontested by our legally elected government public officials. It is their duty to hold the judges accountable when they violate the Constitution and laws.

Swanville City February 6, 2018 Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting held in the Swanville Center on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. The meeting called to order 5:00 p.m.with the following members present: Sandy Lange, Deb Wood, Norm Carlson, and Tony Maciej. Absent: Jim Molitor. Also present: Randy Drayna, Quentin Bryce, John Gessell, Charlie Gunderson, reporter Sheila McCoy, and Lonny Hutchins.

Minutes of the Public Hearing and Swanville City Council meeting Tuesday, January 3, 2018 were reviewed. A motion was made by Deb Wood to approve the minutes as printed. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The treasures report was given.

A motion was made by Tony Maciej and seconded by Norm Carlson to approve the treasurer’s report. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Quentin Bryce was present to inform the council that the date of sale for Red’s Irish Pub will be March 6, 2018. Mayor Lange presented to council Resolution #180206A which states the liquor license date for Red’s Irish Pub will be from March 6, 2018 to March 6, 2019. Tony Maciej made a motion to accept Resolution #18-0206A

changing the Liquor License date to March 6, 2018 through March 6, 2019. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

John Gessell Sr. was present and stated is interested in purchasing lot 4 of block 2 in the North Berkey Addition. If he does purchase the lot he would like the council’s permission to do some landscaping, to the north of the lot.

Council gave permission.

Randy Drayna was present and stated he and his wife are interested in lots 28, 29, and 30 in the Forest Hill Lane Addition. After discussion, Mayor Lange made a motion to sell lots 28, 29 and 30 for $2500.00, with any legal fees split between the City and the Drayna’s.

Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried. Drayna agreed with the motion. The clerk will have the city attorney write up the purchase agreement.

Mayor Lange presented to council Resolution #18-0206B authorizing the purchase of real property located on Springbrook Drive from Cory and Kari DeFoe for $7,500.00. Mayor Lange made a motion to accept Resolution #180206B authorizing the purchase of land from the DeFoe’s. Tony Maciej seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The Mayor and Clerk will meet at the city attorney’s office this Friday to sign papers.

It was brought to the council’s attention there are people living in a camper on property within the city limits. There is a city ordinance which states parking of RV, trailers, fish house, other similar structures are allowed, but must have currant license, and be road worthy and not used as a dwelling for more than five days. A letter will be wrote and sent to the property owner asking to comply with the ordinance.

Maintenance worker, Lonny, stated he will be putting up the city greenhouse soon. Deb Wood stated she would help with the planting and watering of the plants.

Charlie Gunderson was present to introduce himself to the council and state he is running for County Commissioner of Morrison County.

The following claims were presented for payment. Members of the council were furnished with a listing. Deb Wood made a motion to approve the claims. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

There being no further business, a motion was made by Tony Maciej and seconded by Deb Wood to adjourn. All members voted in favor, motion carried. Meeting adjourned 6:00 p.m.

Paul Anderson Federation Accepting Century Farm Interesting area meeting regarding rural Applications Deadline is April 2 high-speed internet Minnesota families who have owned their farms for 100 years or more may apply for the 2018 Century Farm Program. Produced by the Minnesota State Fair in conjunction with the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation, the Century Farm Program was created to promote agriculture and honor historic family farms in the state. More than 10,000 Minnesota farms have been honored since the program began in 1976.

Family farms are recognized as a Century Farm when three requirements are met. The farm must be: 1) at least 100 years old according to authentic land records; 2) in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years (continuous residence on the farm is not required); and 3) at least 50 acres and currently be involved in agricultural production.

A commemorative certificate signed

by State Fair Board of Managers President Paul Merkins, Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation President Kevin Paap and Governor Mark Dayton will be awarded to qualifying families, along with an outdoor sign signifying Century Farm status.

Attended a meeting in Fergus Falls last week where “rural broadband” was the topic. A good cross section of interested folks was represented, including phone and internet providers, local government officials, federal representatives and several other state legislators. We heard a presentation of the importance of quality internet access, with both upload and download speeds fast enough to allow folks to live in Greater Minnesota and still be able to conduct their work from home.

It was especially interesting to see spreadsheet-like numbers showing the likelihood of extending fiber optic cable to those who live in sparsely populated areas.

The example used was Ottertail County, one of the larger counties in the state, in terms of size. There has been much activity in recent years to bring high-speed internet to residents of the county, and it was estimated that within the next five years, approximately two-thirds of the county’s area would have coverage. However, because of the high cost, providing fiber optic service to the remainder of the county is a challenge. Even figuring in state broadband grants to cover half of that cost, it will be challenging to finish the build-out.

Because of the population sparsity in areas such as this, it seems to me that wireless or satellite coverage is another option that should be looked at. Technology is improving rapidly and, as more towers are built, coverage is getting better. I happened to get a post card in the mail last week with details of satellite coverage from a company promising speeds of three megabits per second up and 25 down.

Don’t know much more about it, but at the meeting in Fergus Falls, wireless was briefly discussed. In open terrain, we were told, it can work well. But in areas with lots of trees and hills, reception can be challenging.

An interesting statistic taken from the meeting was the cost of running fiber optic to the door. It can range from $4,000 all the way up to $12,000 per home. It was also mentioned that having high-speed internet service made houses easier to sell, with the average increase in value ranging from three to $7,000 per home.

No action was taken in either body of the Legislature last week on the subject of granting additional funding to MNLARS to continue working on their new license and registration software. They had requested

several weeks ago that an additional $40-something million was needed to finish fixing problems with the system that went online last July. They later said that $10 million was needed almost immediately, or else folks working on the system would be getting layoff notices. Their deadline for receiving those funds was last Thursday, and when no action was taken to provide funding, those notices are apparently being sent out.

Keep in mind that nearly $100 million has already been spent on the project, and the roll out of the new system has been extremely troublesome. Just handing more money to those working on the system doesn’t seem like the best option, not until assurances are given that the system at some point in the future will work properly and that this additional funding is truly needed.

It’s important that this system works properly. It provides a great deal of revenue to the state, and later this year it’s supposed to be integrated with the new Real ID system, our new drivers’ license format that will allow folks to travel by airplane and be federal-ID compliant.

Mud Puddles & Dandelions

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard. My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away. My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

When I hear music I love, I know I can’t carry a tune and don’t have much rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen. My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don’t know them, they make up their own.

When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk. My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall to the ground laughing.

When I pray, I say thee and thou and grant me this, give me that. My kids say, “Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry, I don’t want to go to Heaven yet. I would miss my Mommy and Daddy.”

When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes and dirty carpets. My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to cross and worms to play with.

I wonder if we are given kids to teach or to learn from?

No wonder God loves the little children!

Legislators unveil Bill asking Dayton Administration to find funding for DMV system fix Representative Paul Torkelson, R-Hanska, and Representative Dave Baker, R-Willmar, unveiled legislation that would require the Dayton administration to find $10 million in needed funding to begin fixing the broken DMV system known as MNLARS (Minnesota Licensing and Registration System). The proposal comes in the wake of investigative reporting that suggests the Dayton administration ignored several warning signs and rolled out the new system despite knowledge that it would not function properly.

“Minnesotans have already paid nearly $100 million for a broken system that has caused headaches and frustration for customers and employees at DMV’s across the state,” Torkelson said. “As the old saying goes, ‘you break it, you buy it’ — the Governor has said repeatedly that he accepts full responsibility, so this will allow him to back up his words with action. Our bill would allow the governor to utilize existing executive agency funding to continue work on MNLARS. Minnesotans deserve a system that works when they go to the DMV, but should not be expected to foot the bill once again after years of incompetence and mismanagement.”

The bill set to be introduced would allow the governor to utilize funding currently dedicated to his executive agencies to provide the first $10 million requested by his administration to continue MNLARS operations. Reps. Torkelson and Baker also said that Rep. Regina Barr, R-Inver Grove Heights, will introduce a bill directing the Commissioner of Public Safety to study the feasibility of using a commercial vendor to “develop, deploy, and maintain” a system to replace MNLARS, instead of relying on the same government agency that has struggled to fix the problem.

“All options need to be on the table as we look at the future of MNLARS and how we ensure that Minnesotans get the service they deserve,” concluded Rep. Torkelson.
