Most people aim to do right; they just fail to pull the trigger. For whatever reason, they just don’t have the wherewithal to finish the job.

They lack discipline.

Good intentions aren’t enough. People have good intentions when they set a goal to do something, but then they miss a deadline or a workout. Suddenly it gets a lot easier to miss again – and again and again. They don’t pay off on effort … they pay off on results.

“Discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built,” said the late motivational speaker Jim Rohn. “Lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure. Discipline is the bridge between thought and accomplishment …the glue that binds inspiration to achievement … the magic that turns financial necessity into the creation of an inspired work of art.”

He added: “Discipline is the master key that unlocks the door to wealth and happiness, culture and sophistication, high self-esteem and high accomplishment, and the accompanying feelings of pride, satisfaction and success.

Discipline will do much for you. More importantly, though, is what it will do to you. It will make you feel terrific about yourself.”

Whenever I eyeball a resume to staff a management job, I look for evidence of self-discipline. As candidates have prepared themselves for past jobs, did they identify and master 3-5 key self-disciplines essential to future success?

I’m looking for specific examples beyond just showing up for work. Did they take leadership on difficult projects that required developing new skills? Were they flexible when original plans had to be adjusted to conform to changing needs? Could they put ego aside

when others had better ideas? Were they able to maintain control when challenged by customers or co-workers?

Keeping focused whether things are going well is often as difficult as when glitches surface. Self-discipline is what finishes the job. Managers especially need to model selfdiscipline so that their teams observe how it’s done and can follow their example.

And employees aren’t the only ones who see discipline in action. Customers take notice of how organizations conduct themselves.

If they see a sloppy operation, they assume shoddy results. If they see a well-oiled machine, their confidence in the final product increases.

Discipline means you are prepared to do the things you don’t always want to do in order to get the results you need to get. As difficult as that sounds, consider the alternative. Allow yourself to take the easy way out, and that’s exactly what you will find: the way out the door.

Discipline isn’t optional. It’s an investment in your future.

A family was gathered for dinner one night when the youngest son announced that he had just enlisted in the Army. There were audible gasps around the table, then some laughter, as his older brothers shared their disbelief that he could handle this new situation.

“Oh, come on, quit joking,” snickered one.

“You didn’t really do that, did you?” asked another. “You would never get through basic training.”

Finally, his father spoke up. “It’s going to take a lot of discipline. Are you ready for that?”

The new recruit looked to his mother for help, but she was just gazing at him. When she finally spoke, she simply asked, “Do you really plan to make your own bed every morning?”

Mackay’s Moral: Keep your head and heart going in the right direction and you’ll never have to worry about your feet.

Even though it is hard to imagine, Spring is coming.

The snow will turn from it's fluffy white blanket to a brown and bluish mess. Brown spots will begin to appear in protected areas and some of the sunny slopes. There will be a really big change as we look over the landscape. Finally a few green sprouts will appear and then you know Spring is here.

There is than a recurring dream in rural Minnesotans. They get the desire to plant something. During our younger years, planting a garden was simply something you did each spring. The family depended on it for a large part of their dietary needs. If you raised beef, poultry and hogs and added the preserves from the garden, your diet was satisfied.

You still needed to buy some groceries, such as flour, sugar, salt, pepper, oatmeal, coffee and some cooking oil. The rest of the food needs were already in the freezer or stored in the basement.

There were some garden products that would last in their original state using different storage methods. Beans could be preserved in salt water crocks or dried to make leather britches beans. Squash and pumpkins were stored in the oats bin until later in the fall, after which they were either canned or dried.

Cabbage was turned into sauerkraut. Carrots were stored in pails of sand. Potatoes were stored in a cool corner of the basement. Corn was ground into cornmeal for breads, cakes and dog food. Peas and beans were dried and used in soups, etc. Wild fruits and berries were made into jellies and sauce. Some individuals harvested acorns and hazel nuts to be used as

additions to breads and candies. Basswood flowers and strawberry foliage were used as a tasty warm drink. Some wild plants such as dandelion and plantain were used as salads. Sumac seeds were used as a spice on pork roasts to add a pleasant lemony flavor.

Asparagus could either be eaten raw, cooked, frozen or canned. It has been said that nettles make an excellent cooked vegetable, but I have never tried it. Wild mushrooms were either sauteed in butter or canned, both offer more flavor than store-bought mushrooms.

In today's world, we are noticing a reduction in value of the “almighty dollar.”

Inflation in excess of 7%. Gas is at least ½ more than we paid a year ago. Grocery store prices are definitely going up, as are other retail items, especially lumber. How can we adjust our lives to avoid these extra expenses?

Enjoying the vegetables from our own garden is an obvious help. By harvesting the garden, you reduce the grocery expense. It offers the pleasant outdoor experience that makes us appreciate our home. If one can reduce the trips to the grocery store from 4 trips to 3 trips every two weeks and the trip uses a gallon of gas, you now reduced gasoline expenditures by $7.00 per month. That's $84.00 per year. These are after tax dollars, so we must remember that you need to earn about $120.00 to net the $84.00.

We haven't yet considered the dollar value of the garden's produce in after tax dollars. It will probably be like getting a $200.00 per month raise.

It's time to pick up some seeds and for those who start plants indoors, it won't be long before that needs to be started. It is also the time to check the sun-block or hats to be ready for the long awaited warm sunshine. Being able to brag about your large tomatoes or how many beans you picked yesterday, is just an added benefit.

Obituaries

Dennis H. Lyon

Dennis H. Lyon, age 65 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 1 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Inurnment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Dennis Herman Lyon was born August 23, 1956 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Sidney and Rita (Ostendorf) Lyon. He graduated from Grey Eagle High School in 1974. He was united in marriage to LeaAnn Ufkin on January 9, 1982 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Dennis was a Jack Frost truck driver for ten years and was a dairy farmer for 16 years. He later worked for Todd County Public Works for 21 years. Dennis was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and helping others.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, LeaAnn Lyon of Sauk Centre; children, Melissa Lyon of Spring Lake, North Carolina, Kimberly Lyon of Sauk Centre, Jason (Brandy) Lyon of Long Prairie, and Sarah (Travis) Redetzke of Osakis; five grandchildren, Garret, Trent, Hannah, Zoe, and Piper; brothers and sisters, Arthur (MaryAnn) Lyon of Rice, Grace Edgar of Sauk Centre, Sidney L. (Joann) Lyon of Sauk Rapids, Dale (Ruth) Lyon of Melrose, Audrey (Don) Olmscheid of Paynesville, Roger Lyon of Villard, Allen (Anna) Lyon of Foley, Joe (Cathy) Lyon of Holdingford, Mary (Ron) Guetter of Willmar, Judy (Dave) Haus of Sauk Rapids, David (Beth) Lyon of Marshall, Mike (Lori) Lyon of St. Joseph, Lloyd (Joan) Lyon of Rice, Tom (Meredith) Lyon of St. Joseph, and Nancy (Brian) Roske of Grey Eagle; and many loving relatives and friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Lyon on March 24, 2020 and Rita Lyon on November 18, 2010; granddaughter, Alexis on July 19, 2000; brother-in-law, Kenneth Edgar; and several nieces and nephews.

Aaron J. Schmitz, age 46 of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the CentraCare Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

Monday, March 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be at the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m.

Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Melrose Fire Department will pray at 5:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Aaron Joseph Schmitz was born September 25, 1975 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Florian and Rosella (Beilke) Schmitz. After graduating high school, he married Kim Toenyan on August 22, 1994 in Long Prairie, Minnesota. From this union, they had three children, Stephanie born in 1996, Derek born in 2004, and Jadyn born in 2007. Aaron worked at Burger King in Melrose working his way up to manager and ended his last two years as district manager. In 2017, Aaron began working at the Melrose Area School as food service manager.

Working at the school was the perfect fit. He was well liked by all; students, coworkers, faculty, and parents. He couldn’t go anywhere without giving a friendly hello. His wonderful personality and smile will be missed! His passion for sports was evident to all. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball and continued his involvement with coaching, refereeing, umping, and helping with the score board during sporting events. Aaron was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking and spending time with family.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. He served on the Melrose School Board and the Melrose Chamber of Commerce. Aaron had a heart for helping people.

He joined the Melrose Fire Department as a volunteer and served alongside his friends, that became family, for more than 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Schmitz of Melrose; children, Stephanie Schmitz (Christian Botello), Derek Schmitz, and Jadyn Schmitz all of Melrose; brothers, Kris Schmitz of Sauk Rapids and Steve (Chandra) Schmitz and their children, Shaelyn, Layla, and Olivia of Sauk Centre; father and mother-in-law, Kenny and Shirley Toenyan of Long Prairie; brothers and sister-in-law, Chad (Vanessa) Toenyan of Big Lake, Shaun (Sarah) Toenyan of Litchfield, and Dana Botello (Jay Lenz) of Little Sauk; and seven nieces and nephews on the Toenyan side with one on the way.

Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, Florian and Rosie Schmitz.

Arlene Holmen

Early in the morning of the unusual date of 2/22/22, Arlene Holmen, 93, peacefully (and I believe – joyously) went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ after suffering with congestive heart failure.

She is survived by her son Daniel Berg and his wife Linda, and her daughter Marcia Brown and her husband Ken. Her grandchildren: Paul Berg and his wife, Marcel; Caleb Berg and his wife, Chanel; Hannah Elrod and her husband, Nate; Kendra Manna and her husband, Ben; Michael Brown; Jordan Brown and his wife, Abby.

She is also survived by her 10 great grandchildren (with one on the way): Elise, Judah, Emmie, Eden, Rueben and Olive.

Elizabeth, Gabriella, and Maximus, and George.

Arlene loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.

She prayed for all of them and they gave her last years of life great joy and satisfaction.

Arlene loved the Lord with all her heart and her one desire always was for all her family to know Jesus Christ and live for Him. O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34:8.

James E. Jackson

James E. Jackson, age 87, of Melrose, MN died on February 22, 2022, of natural causes at the CentraCare-Melrose Hospital. He had been residing at the CentraCare Assisted Living Facility in Melrose, MN since August while also maintaining his home on the Sauk River in Melrose.

A memorial service celebrating Jim’s will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery.

Jim was born on July 30, 1934 in St. Joseph, MO to Edward and Jenny Jackson. He resided in Kansas City, MO until 1953 when he began attending the University of Kansas, studying premechanical engineering. His dad maintained a house on Big Birch Lake in Grey Eagle, MN where the entire family would reside in the summers, until the kids grew up.

Jim served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1957-1961. He was a 2nd Engine (diesel) Man on Coast Guard cutter ships, 100+feet. He loved it when the crew would go out to sea, being an avid boat enthusiast (Power and Sail) his whole life.

Jim met his wife Norma at a friend’s wedding in St. Petersburg, Florida. They eventually started dating and were married 6 months later, on February 9, 1957, in Clearwater, FL. He and Norma relocated to Mobile, Alabama where Jim completed his Service in the Coast Guard.

After four years in the Coast Guard, while reconsidered re-enlistment, Jim sent letters to the engine departments of Caterpillar and John Deere, for potential employment. He got offers from both and decided on John Deere. He relocated to Dubuque, IA with his wife and son, David.

Jim worked as an Engine Tech in Dubuque until 1969 when he was promoted to the Engine Engineering Team and moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa. There he worked at the Experimental Farm, which eventually became the Engine Plant until 1998 when he retired to Hickory Hollow near Buckingham, IA. While at John Deere, Jim worked with several projects, amongst others, involving pistons and fuel pumps, which were eventually patented.

Jim and Norma relocated to Melrose, MN on the Sauk River in 2004. Jim became an avid Model Airplane and Model Boat builder and flyer/pilot, all electric, after using the Nitro Engines as a child.

James and Norma were snowmobile enthusiasts, Jim more than Norma. In addition to the local snowmobile trails they would travel to Cable, Wisconsin, for snowmobile trips. These trips were also taken earlier, when the kids were growing up.

Jim is survived by his sons, David, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Jared, Chicago, IL, and his daughter, Kitt (Mike) Gogel, New Hartford, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma; and siblings, Tony and Edith “Edy.”

Richard "Dick" Imdieke

Richard F. “Dick” Imdieke, age 78 of Meire Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at his home at Tree of Life Assisted Living in New Munich, Minnesota.

A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m.

Thursday, March 3 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Meire Grove.

Richard Frank (Dick) Imdieke was born May 12, 1943 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to John and Fredericka (Macke) Imdieke. Dick was a farmer on his family’s legacy acreage.

The outdoors was Dick’s favorite place where he enjoyed Minnesota’s four seasons while working, chopping wood and gardening. He liked to bake fruit pies. Dick also was a proud Godfather.

Dick moved to Tree of Life Assisted Living home in 2019. He took special pride in the garden he tended there and the fresh vegetables it produced for meals. He enjoyed social time with his friends, artistic crafts and assembling wood models.

Survivors include his sisters and brothers, Irene Mergen of Waite Park, Fred (Margaret) Imdieke of Melrose, Sister Alice Imdieke, O.S.B. of St. Joseph, Doris Ethen of St. Cloud, and Aloysius (Sandra) Imdieke of Meire Grove; sister-in-law, Margaret Breitbach of Elrosa; and 30 nieces and nephews including godchildren Mary Schmitz and Rick Mergen.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Agnes Imdieke, Mildred Gans, Celine Caspers; brother, John Imdieke; brothers-in-law, Roger Gans, Alcuin Caspers, George Mergen, Ronald Schwinghammer, Al Ethen; and nephew, Paul Mergen.

Morrison Co. Sheriff’s Office

February 26, 2022: At approximately 12:05 p.m. received a report of a snowmobile accident along Highway 238 east of 90th Avenue, approximately one mile east of Elmdale, MN in Elmdale Township.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 7-year-old juvenile male of Royalton, MN was driving a Polaris snowmobile westbound in the ditch along Highway 238. The snowmobile hit a driveway approach causing him to be thrown from the machine. The juvenile male was transported to St. Gabriel’s Hospital by Mayo Clinic Ambulance with a broken arm.

The juvenile’s parents were riding with the juvenile on separate snowmobiles when the incident occurred.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Upsala First Response Team and Mayo Clinic Ambulance.

We feel that she is very responsible for her age and will be a responsible driver but we would like your advice on how we can teach her to deal with a few common emergencies that a teenager might face when starting out on the road alone for the first time.

-Shelby in Carroll, Iowa Dear Shelby, There are many things about common vehicle emergencies that a new driver and even a well-seasoned one can benefit from knowing.

Some problems can be prevented with focused driving. A driver who is aware of their surroundings can avoid many common problems.

First off, many teens I speak to don’t know what to do about a flat tire. This is one of the easiest things to take care of but without proper knowledge can be very intimidating and even dangerous. Go over the procedures for installing a spare and don’t forget safety first like making sure the car is in a safe location before attempting a change. Six inches from the edge of a busy highway is not safe. In general, think of all the issues you have dealt with in your daily driving and teach them before it happens.

Swanville City • January 4, 2022 Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting held in the Swanville Center on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. The meeting called to order 7:00 p.m. with the following members present: Sandy Lange, John Dragseth, Norm Carlson, Jim Molitor and Tony Maciej. Also present: Clif Allen, Brett Rupulske, Michael Bezruki via zoom and a voice recorder was present for reporter Terry Lehrke.

Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting Tuesday, December 7, 2021 was reviewed. A motion was made by John Dragseth to approve the minutes. Jim Molitor seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The treasures report was given. A motion was made by Norm Carlson and seconded by John Dragseth to approve the treasurer’s report. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Michael Bezruki, with Lobbyit, was via Zoom present to council to explain his lobby firm and the purposes to hire the firm. After his presentation, he answered questions from council. Council discussed hiring the lobbyist and did not see a need at this point for the city’s water project.

Brett Repulske, with Rural Development, was present to give an update to council on the financing and application steps that are being taken to set up the water project grant/loan with USDA. Included in the water project is drilling two new wells, taking down existing water tower, putting up new water reservoir, pump loop system and new water meters throughout the city. Looking at the age of the existing water tower there will need to be a historic assessment done for the grant as well.

Jim Molitor made a motion to have the historic assessment completed. Tony Maciej seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. The assessment could cost in the neighborhood of $10,000.00 which would be covered in the grant. Another public hearing needs to be scheduled to let the public aware of the water project. Council decided to have the public hearing at 6:45 pm before the next regular meeting on February 8, 2022.

Clif Allen, city engineer, gave hand-outs to council members of a map showing the locations of the new wells and water reservoir to the north of the fire hall. Allen also presented council with task order #3. In this task order it included putting water/sewer, storm sewer and gavel on the road in the North Berkey First Addition. Curb and gutter and tar roads are on hold at this time. Tony Maciej made a motion to approve task order #3. Norm Carlson seconded the motion, all members voted in favor, motion carried.

Mayor Lange presented to council a bill drafted by Ron Kresha’s office asking for funding from the State of MN for the city water project.

So Kresha is working for the City at the Congress Legislation.

This being the first meeting of the year, the following organizational actions were made: 1. Jim Molitor will be acting Mayor in the absence of Mayor Lange.

2. The First State Bank of Swanville will be the designated depository of the City.

The Morrison County Record will be the designated official newspaper of the City.

3. The regular meeting date for the City Council meeting is the first Tuesday after the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. Special meeting only after proper notification and publication.

4. The Bond of the City Clerk/Treasurer will be set at $12,000.00.

5. Assigned duties to the following Council Members and Citizens of the Community: Community Center- Julie Hollermann & John Dragseth City Park-Lonny Hutchins and Sandy Lange Streets and Sidewalks-Tony Maciej and Lonny Hutchins Springbrook Cemetery-Julie Hollermann and Lonny Hutchins City Weed Inspector-Jim Molitor and Lonny Hutchins Rural Fire Assoc. Rep-Sandy Lange and John Dragseth 6. City Attorney-The law office of Quinlivan & Hughes formally Brown, Krueger and Vancura 7. City Engineer-Moore Engineering 8. Representative on the Senior Center BoardNorm Carlson 9. Planning and Zoning Committee-All of City Council Members and Lonny Hutchins.

10. Well Head Managers-Lonny Hutchins and Jim Molitor A motion was made by John Dragseth to accept these actions as listed. Jim Molitor seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Salaries for Employees and Council Members for 2022: 1. Mayor’s salary-$1800.00 annually+$20.00 per hour for special meetings (1 hour min pay).

2. Council Members salary-$900.00 annually+$20.00 per hour for special meetings (1 hr min pay).

3. Clerk/Treasurer salary-$1350.00 monthly+$20.00 per hour for special meeting (1 hr min pay).

4. Maintenance Worker Salary-$44,000.00 Annual wage+60% health care+disability ins & 2 weeks paid vacation and cell phone monthly fee.

5. Substitute Maintenance Man Salary-$16.00 per hour 6. Park & City Centers Cleaner-$12.00 per hour 7. Summer part-time worker-$12.00 8. Mileage at present 60¢ a mile A motion was made by Norm Carlson to approve all salaries as stated above. Jim Molitor seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Mayor Lange handed out City Code Articles V and VI for council to look over.

Vehicles parked on main street when snow plowing needs to be done is a problem. Vehicles will be towed if not moved signs are posted to not park.

Norm Carlson reported the senior center will no longer be receiving funding from Lutheran Social Services for meals. The center will still have meals bought from Lucky’s at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Volunteers will serve the meal.

Cost will be the same for seniors and the center will pay the rest of the meal.

The following claims were presented for payment. Members of the council were furnished with a listing. Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the claims. Tony Maciej seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the Swanville Center. The Public Hearing will take place at 6:45 pm. There will be a DEEDS rehab funding meeting starting at 5:30 to about 6:30 pm.

There being no further business, a motion was made by Norm Carlson and seconded by John Dragseth to adjourn. All members voted in favor, motion carried. Meeting adjourned 9:05 pm.

Julie Hollermann, City Clerk/Treasurer Burtrum City • February 7, 2022 The Burtrum City Council meeting was called to order at 7 pm on Monday, February 7, 2022 by Mayor Ron Strassburg.

In attendance was Ron Strassburg, Sharon Erickson, Sara Macho, Mitchell Bruggenthies, Chad Landowski and Laura Horvath.

Minutes from the January 6, 2022 meeting were read and approved: a motion to approve was made by Sharon Erickson and seconded by Sara Macho, upon vote motion was carried and minutes were accepted.

Next the finance report was read and approved; and the city discussed current bills/invoices; finance report was accepted, and bills were paid, with a motion made by Sharon Erickson seconded

by Sara Macho.

Current Bills; Terri Veldkamp, Snow Plowing, Sheriff Bill, Christmas Lights non-metered A motion for an estimate to reduce the echo/ noise in the City Hall Building was accepted and approved with a motion made by Sharon Erickson and seconded by Sara Macho.

New Business: The Swanville Dollars for Scholars, President Teresa Giese, attended the meeting requesting the City approve the Swanville Dollars for Scholars to hold the gambling permit for the Burtrum Cabooze, effective March 1st. The Swanville DFS will share the responsibility with the Swanville Snodrifters Club. A motion was made and carried.

Old Business: No topics to discuss.

Laura Horvath, City Clerk Grey Eagle Township • February 7, 2022 Call to Order: Ron Frericks called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm. The pledge of allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Ron Frericks, Ray Bense, Mary Ann Primus, Mike Rohe and Erv Herdering.

Agenda Approval: A preliminary agenda was presented. Ron asked if there were additions to the agenda. Ray made the motion to accept the agenda.

Approval of Minutes: Mike made the motion to accept the January 3, 2022 minutes.

Town Clerk’s Report: Clerk presented the claims list for January. Claims list included claims 3650-3657 for a total of $9,227.55. Mike made the motion to pay the claims. Ray made the second.

All in favor. Motion carried. Mail included a letter from Minnesota Power regarding the rate increase, a donation request, advertising and training information.

Road and Bridge Report: Ray stated not much to report, lots of snow piling up. Erv was asked to

push back some of the banks at intersections and problem spots. Chairman and clerk signed the Elmdale Township agreement and will send it to Elmdale Township. Ron presented information on the Boom mower and tractor rental costs for consideration. Ron will get more information as to dates available. Ron also asked if the Board would like him to get information on costs to fix the back room of the hall. He will report at the next meeting.

Additional agenda item: Ron asked about some of the meeting dates that will fall on holidays this year, Motion was made by Ron to move to the next Monday – July meeting will be on July 11th, September meeting will be on September 12th, and the January 2023 meeting will be on January 9th, 2023. This will be posted at the Township Hall.

Mike made a second to the motion, all in favor, motion carried.

Board members received copies of the Grey Eagle Township Comprehensive Plan to review, the only changes will be to say that Todd County will now be handling the planning and zoning.

Clerk will make those additions and present to the board to review. Mary Ann asked if the board members should look into record retention and what needs to be done to get started. Something to consider in the future.

Adjournment: Motion by Mike to adjourn the meeting. Ron made the second. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 pm.

From the Desk of Pastor Bruce “How are you doing?” It’s a simple question and easy to answer, right? Life is complicated, with lots of things going on. In your life you might have some issues with your children, or in-laws. Someone from work might have been agitated with you today, or the clerk at the grocery store was impatient when it took a little longer than it should have to find your membership card, along with a hundred other things on your mind.

So, how do you normally answer the question, “How are you doing?" Generally, there are very few people you can be entirely honest with and say, "I am not sure I can do it another day." Most people, you answer, “good," and leave it at that.

Several years ago, I was the Facilities Manager at a Bible Camp near McGregor, MN. In the summer we had summer staff who helped with the beach, rifle range, crafts, and nature center, etc.

They were a major part of the summer kids’ program. One day, one of our lifeguards was sitting by

herself by the horseshoe pits. It was a few minutes before I needed to be somewhere, so I went up and asked her, “How are you doing?” Her answer, “I am doing good.” I then said, “How are you really doing?” This young lady began to cry, as she had been holding in some very hard things for a long time. I learned then that we need to be “intentional” about caring for people in the same way that Jesus cared for us.

1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for us.” So, instead of being anxious about the things in your life, trust Jesus. We all need a friend like Him. Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Be a friend!
