Letter to the Editor Don’t let phosphorus get into the lakes
By Joe Lang
Spring finally arrived, soon the ice will be off the lake. The grass will start to green up and to give it a boost, some will want to fertilize.
Remember lake shore owners by law are required to use phosphorus free fertilizer. The reasons for this is one pound of
A Move Funny
The orthopedic surgeon I work for was moving to a new office, and his staff was helping transport many of the items. I sat the display skeleton in the front of my car, his bony arm across the back of my seat.
I hadn't considered the drive across town. At one traffic light, the stares of the people in the car beside me became obvious, and I looked across and explained, "I'm delivering him to my doctor's office."
The other driver leaned out of his window. "I hate to tell you, lady," he said, "but I think it's too late!" phosphorus could support 775 pounds of algae growth - According to Michigan State University.
A 16 pound bag of 29-3-4 contains almost a half a pound of phosphorus.
I really hate algae. It's ugly and when it decomposes it consumes more oxygen. Fish and other organisms need oxygen. I really like fish and wouldn’t want them to die because they can’t breathe.
Green lawns are wonderful. But please use the phosphorus free fertilizer.

I have lots of teaching DVD series in my office. I have acquired them over the years and have been through all of them at least once and many more than once. One in particular has always intrigued me. The title is “Not a Fan," and you may be thinking what on earth is that all about? So, as my purpose in these articles is to help you, the reader, to be encouraged to live a godly life. Our world is so complicated, and our lives tend to be so full of “things” this world has to offer, instead of basing our lives on Jesus Christ.
So, in “Not a Fan” Kyle Idleman stresses the fact that a true believer is not just idle or simply watching others do all the work. He refers to Christianity as a football game. In the game of football there are two kinds of people. First of all, there is the two teams. They practice hard all week, and then they come together on game day and compete. The other kind of person who is at the game but not playing, just watching is the fan. This is the person who comes to the game to watch. They may have popcorn and soda or a candy bar to support the local booster club, but for all practical purposes, they are only watching.
Kyle’s objective in this teaching is to get all of us to understand that we need to be in the game so to speak. We need to “practice” hard (reading and studying scriptures), so that we can endure the game till the end. Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Look also at 1 Corinthians 9:25-27 “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”
Be encouraged, study God’s Word, Love others, practice humility. -Pastor Bruce Miller from Swanville Bible Church, 320-547-2916
