The world needs more Top Guns -By Harvey Mackay I was among the millions of people who flocked to movie theaters recently to see “Top Gun: Maverick.”

It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a few years.

My friend Lt. Col. Rob “Waldo” Waldman is an American author, motivational speaker, leadership consultant and founder of The Wingman Foundation. He is a decorated fighter pilot and retired Air Force officer and combat veteran, having flown 65 combat missions. He loved the movie because “it demonstrates how important it is for us to coach, mentor and lead our youth though challenge and fear.”

“Top Gun: Maverick” is loaded with business and life lessons. This movie speaks volumes about values: values that lift, inspire and encourage, and say I have your back no matter what.

Among the other core values that I picked up in the movie: Trust – The most important word in business is trust. It takes years to build up trust, but only seconds to destroy it. Trust is central to doing business with anyone. I can only imagine the level of trust that these pilots, flying at dizzying speeds and performing mind-bending maneuvers, must have in each other. Lack of trust could mean a life-or-death situation.

Commitment – No one gets in the cockpit of one of these jets without total commitment.

When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results. Commitment is a prerequisite to success. Commitment is the state of being bound – emotionally, intellectually or both – to a course of action. Commitment starts with a choice and is sustained by dedication and perseverance.

Courage – It’s easy to be ordinary. Courage is what sets you apart from the crowd. Courage is regarded as one of the major human virtues.

Courage is bravery, valor, standing up to danger, guts and nerve all rolled into one. I’m

not a soldier, a police officer, a doctor nor a relief worker. I’m a businessman. So what does courage have to do with running a business?

Plenty. I admit that most folks’ daily lives are not filled with such dramatic challenges. We all face situations that require us to reach down deep within ourselves to do what is right and brave and occasionally difficult. Courage can involve making decisions that are unpopular or time-consuming or even expensive.

Camaraderie/Friendship - I've heard this quote many times, including from my good friend Muhammad Ali: “Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything.”

Pride – Not the self-serving, obnoxious kind of pride. No, this level of pride means always doing your best so that you can be satisfied that you gave it your all. Pride to me is being self-confident, but not egotistical. Could you land on the deck of a moving ship? I’d take a great deal of pride in accomplishing what they do.

Adversity – I have never met a successful person who hasn’t had to overcome a little – or a lot – of adversity. The impact and ultimate result depend on what you do with the difficulties that come your way. The adversities I’ve experienced have made me stronger, more fearless, and ultimately, more successful.

Perfection. Practice makes perfect – not true. You have to add one word. Perfect practice makes perfect. It doesn’t matter whether you are practicing a presentation or a golf swing or flying a jet, you want to improve your performance, not repeating practice mistakes.

Passion. Passion is at the top of the list of

the skills you need to excel in any profession. If you don’t have a deep-down, intense, burning desire for what you are doing, there’s no way you’ll be able to work the long, hard hours it takes to become successful. However, if you are not very good at what you are passionate about, it won’t matter.

Encouragement – Growing up I studied people like Dale Carnegie, who said: “Tell a child, a husband or an employee that he is stupid or dumb at a certain thing, that he has no gift for it, and that he is doing it all wrong, and you have destroyed almost every incentive to try to improve. But use the opposite technique; be liberal with encouragement … let the other person know that you have faith in his ability to do it … and he will practice until the dawn comes in at the window in order to excel.”

Encouragement unleashes potential.

Change the channel -By Dave Ramsey When I was a little kid, all the TVs in our neighborhood had a remote channel changer. I remember the three channels on the TV—ABC, NBC and CBS ruled the world. Walter Cronkite and David Brinkley were the deliverers of all truth on the nightly news, be it good or bad.

Shortly before my fifth birthday we bought our first color TV. On my birthday we had a Super-Saturday-Cartoon-in-Color party, so all the neighborhood kids could come see cartoons in color. For a moment, I was popular. The TV my parents bought was the size of a small pickup truck. In those days, TVs were a piece of furniture—a large piece of furniture. This TV was so cool that we ran a wire out the window to a big-time antenna on the roof to increase the quality of the signal. Gone were the old rabbit ears, and the instructions on how to hold them just right by my dad.

But the most groundbreaking, lifechanging technology this TV had was a Remote Channel Changer. It was a small handheld device that notified the TV with a “click” to change the channel. The changer was a “clicker,” and that is what we call the remote in my home to this day. This marvel of technology gave hope to all the kids on my street that they, too, could be set free from the drudgery of being the manual channel changer.

You see, when I said all the TVs in my neighborhood had remote channel changers, I was telling the truth. The channel changers just looked like little kids. The dad would

position himself after a hard day’s work and a great dinner in the recliner. He would then grab the TV Guide, the bible for TV watchers that detailed the times and content of programing. Then as the evening progressed, if the program was slow or even if it wasn’t, the dad would proclaim to the kid on the floor, “Change the channel!” We small children were the remote changers for dads in their recliners.

It’s also possible the remote began the downfall of our civilization. I’ve wasted hours of my life surfing channels. For no apparent reason, I stumble onto a movie I’ve seen six times, and watch it again. Often, I’m not even intentional about what I watch.

See, back in the pre-remote age, we watched things on purpose.

I’ve noticed life is like that. I have to do things on purpose if I want to win. What I do on purpose, what I’m intentional about and pay attention to, I win at.

Life doesn’t have a remote. You have to get up and change the channel. When I take the easy path, and don’t make clear, purposeful decisions, the result is mediocrity. When I pay attention to my wife, my marriage is better. When I run a half marathon, I have to focus on training. If I don’t, race day is embarrassing. People who become great leaders, or build successful businesses, don’t do it by accident. People don’t win by accident.

The bad news is my success is up to me.

The great news is my success is up to me.

Yes, there are systems and prejudices that are stacked against me and you. We can’t control those, but we can control what we pay attention to.

So, what do you want to win at?

Business, leadership, parenting, marriage, health, generosity, spiritual growth? You can do it. But you have to get up and change the channel! * Leadership and small business

Alan F. “Al” Nieuwboer

Daniela Alan F. “Al” Nieuwboer, age 70 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, June 6, 2022 at his home near Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Alan Frederick Nieuwboer was born June 8, 1951 in Luverne, Minnesota to Fred and Margaret (Bode) Nieuwboer. He graduated from Hancock High School and continued with post-secondary training. He was united in marriage to Mary Jo Miller on March 31, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Al spent his career in the electronics manufacturing field. In 1997, he founded Optoelectronics Center Incorporated (OCI) which specialized in the design, manufacturing, and testing of optical switches until his retirement in 2019. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed golfing, fishing, and camping. Al loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. He especially enjoyed trips to Las Vegas. As long as they were playing well, Al was a devoted fan of Minnesota sports such as the Twins, Vikings, Gophers, Timberwolves, and he enjoyed watching the PGA. Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Mary of Sauk Centre; children, Emily (Andy) Lewis of Florida, Ashley (Geoff) Dauksas of Western Springs, Illinois, Jenny (Nick) Uphus of Wasilla, Alaska, Chad Nieuwboer, and Karie Barry; nine grandchildren, Liam, Tannin, Flint, Oliver, Harper, Logan, Rylan, Sasha, and Devlyn; and sisters, Nancy (Jim) Sellner of Garland, Texas and Margaret (Dwight) Lauinger of Hutchinson.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Freddie Nieuwboer.

Dave Kluempke

D a v e Kluempke, age 86 of Melrose, died peacefully at home with family on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, June 14 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating.

Interment was in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veteran Honor Guard.

David Joseph Kluempke was born March 24, 1936 in Melrose to Joseph “Joe” and Mary (Gieske) Kluempke. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He married the love of his life, Ann Welle on April 11, 1964 at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. The couple farmed north of Melrose until 1978, when they moved to New Munich to own and operate the New Munich Bus Service. He was a school bus driver for over 40 years. He loved his family very much, and was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his greatest pleasures.

He enjoyed his days on Big Birch Lake, flying, playing a good game of Smear, and having conversations with everyone he could. He loved spending time hunting and fishing and being a member of numerous organizations, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, National Wildlife Turkey Federation, and MN Deer Hunters Association.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1633 and the Lions Club. Dave was a faith filled man. He was a member of both Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, lectoring at both parishes for over 30 years.

Survivors include his children, Mark (Shannon Spooner) Kluempke of Biloxi, Mississippi, Lori (John) Kluempke-Zarogoza of Knoxville, Tennessee, Shari (Matt) Rieland of Melrose; grandchildren, Mack Zarogoza, Emily, James, and Allison Rieland; step grandchildren, Mandy (Justin Harrington), Matt (Nicole) and Mike (Tamara) Zarogoza; siblings, Nona (Larry) Knoblach of Plymouth, Dick (Rosemary) Kluempke of Tigard, Oregon, Pat (Tracy Lovness) Kluempke of Stillwater, Willie (Eva) Kluempke of Cold Spring; in-laws, Carol Kluempke of Portland, Oregon, Cathy Kluempke of Grey Eagle, Judy Kluempke of Melrose, Marie (Nick) Weyrens of Savage, Joan Dold of St. Michael.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; children, Brent Kluempke and infant Brent Kluempke; brothers, Joe Kluempke, Jr., Tom Kluempke, and Jim Kluempke.

Judy Baird Borgerding

Judy Baird Borgerding, age 79 of St. Cloud, passed away October 10, 2021.

A Celebration of Life for Judy will be held on June 18th at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Grey Eagle, MN. Friends may call and visit beginning at 10:30 AM. Please join us for a luncheon which will be held at the church following the service.

A private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Judy was born February 8, 1942 to John and Elma (Koski) Baird of Grey Eagle, MN. She was raised on a farm and graduated from high school in 1960. She left the area to attend college at Westmar in Le Mars, IA. Judy enjoyed playing the saxophone and continued that in the college band. After 2 years there, she transferred to St. Cloud State in St. Cloud, MN finishing her degree in elementary education in 1964. From 1964-1979, Judy taught in elementary schools in Hutchinson and Hastings, MN. She led the single life, traveled, and played volleyball.

Marriage to Mark Borgerding on February 24, 1979 brought Judy back to Grey Eagle. She was again on a dairy farm. She took on the job of “keeper of the calves.” She also fed family deer hunters and wood makers. Her love of teaching found her substituting at local schools and working at Bow Bear, an after school program.

Judy had been very active as a teenager in the United Methodist Church in Grey Eagle and resumed a high level of participation once she moved back. Her talents found her in many leadership roles. Judy was widowed in 2002 but remained on the farm until 2012 when she moved to St, Cloud to be near family. She continued her many church activities at the Sartell site. That gave her great joy until the very end of her life.

Judy faced health challenges later in life including breast cancer, complications of Parkinson’s, Lewy body dementia, and cause of death - heart failure. Her final homes were Country Manor assisted living and nursing care in Sartell for 18 months and Melrose Hospice Care for 2 weeks. Thank you to both. A very special thank you goes to Tisha Baird, Judy’s niece. She was a loving, compassionate, frequent visitor.

Indeed, a guardian angel on earth.

Judy is survived by siblings Jeff Baird of St. Cloud and by Joy Lucius (Dan) of Lakeville. Her nephews, Brant, Kyle, Jeremy, and Evan and her nieces Tisha, Brigette and Lindsey also survive.

Grandnephew Trent Baird and grandnieces Ariel, Layla and Ella Baird will also miss her. Many Borgerding family members will remember her, too.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters-in-law Pat Baird and Lenore Ohnstad and brother-in-law Butch Borgerding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Churches of Grey Eagle and Sartell. Also, consider Parkinson’s.

Judy has gone to her eternal life with the Lord.

Happy Father’s Day!

Celestine Kroll

Celestine Peter Kroll (Cel) passed quietly on June 7, at Central Todd County Care Center, Clarissa with family and devoted caregivers by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 17 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg, MN with father Jimmy Joseph and father Tony Kroll officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:0011:00 A.M. on Friday at the church in Flensburg.

The burial will be held in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Royalton.

He was the sixth child of thirteen born on March 24, 1930 to Frank and Margaret Kroll on the family farm near Royalton. Cel completed eighth grade at the country school and obtained his high school equivalency by testing out in the army. The summer before entering the service Cel worked at Beaver Lake Resort where his eyes rested on Rose Mary Schyma (Rosie), and he asked her out. He missed their first date due to a motorcycle accident, but showed for the second, head bandaged and cigarette in hand.

In a borrowed suit they married on May 4, 1953 when Cel was home on leave. To this union six surviving children were born.

After serving 2 years in the Korean War, Cel and Rosie lived in Minneapolis. Cel worked for the railroad, but the farm life called to him. In 1957 they purchased a 100 acre farm for $4,900.00 in the Flensburg area. They had six cows. A few years later they bought 80 acres to the east and then another 80 acres to the northwest. In 1964 they built a new barn and 1965 a new house. He was very proud of the improvements they made to their property. He was a steward of the land practicing organic farming methods before the word ‘organic’ became popular. He wanted the soil to be alive, soft and healthy. By example he taught his children how to work hard and that everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time. He was always there to help his children in whatever way he could and often gave them free advice!

After retiring at 48 you might find him fishing down at woodtick ditch, in the garden, checking on a hen hatching chicks, or cheating at a hand of cards with the grandkids (to teach them).

He and Rosie enjoyed tending a huge garden and every year shared it with family, friends and neighbors. He grafted apple trees, raised chickens and shot deer off the deck. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers who he loved dearly.

Cel was serious about his Catholic faith, serving as an usher, Eucharistic minister and singing in the choir. He attended Crosier Seminary prior to serving in the war. If you were to spend the night at their home it was not uncommon to see him on his knees beside the bed saying his prayers.

He continued this into his eighties as long as the knees would bend, and he could get back up. He was a good neighbor and a talented, intelligent person. He helped others with his time and his resources. He enjoyed people, humor and good food. Visitors enjoyed his ample supply of home made wild grape wine, smoked fish, sausage and conversation.

Cel disliked laziness, pasta and government handouts.

May he rest well and in peace.

Cel is survived by his children: Arnie (special friend Marge), Barbara (Edwin) Legatt, Cindy (Lowell) Hermanson, Diane (Tim) Helgeson, Elaine (Doug) Mrozek, Faye Pachan.

Siblings: Sister Lillian Kroll, Clem (Winnie) Kroll, Jean (Arvin) Litke, Fr. Anthony Kroll, Jim (Pat) Kroll, Sister Adeline Kroll, Tom (Ginny) Kroll, Janet (Elmer) Litke. In-laws: Louise and Wayne Skajewski, Jerome Bursch, Linda Schyma. Nineteen grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rose Kroll.

Two USA Track Athletes Compete at State

Alyssa Young placed ninth in the Triple Jump at the State Track Meet held Friday, June 10 at St. Michael by jumping 33 ft. 11 inches.

"It has been such an exciting experience coaching Alyssa this year! A journey beginning from 25 indoor practices in March and April to the State Meet in June. The season went from slow to fast in a matter of 4 weeks!

Alyssa capped off the track year with a 9th place medal in the triple jump at State and I could not be prouder of a young lady who was rewarded for all her hard work and persistance toward perfection. Not only did she go to state in the triple jump, but she always placed in the top 5 of every event she ever entered! Her specialties, besides the triple jump, are the 100 Hurdles, 100 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Dash, and the Long Jump! Thus, looking forward, it will be very exciting to see just how much this exceptional athlete will accomplish!"

His goal from the beginning was to make it to State in the discus this year and he went out and met the challenge head on. We're very proud of him and he should be very proud of himself!

From the Desk of Pastor Bruce I tell people that I have a “good forgetter.”

What I mean by that is that if I meet someone new, and they tell me their name, five seconds later I have probably forgotten the name.

Sometimes however, the name told to me clicks with something else in my life and I now have a memory that connects with that name.

There are some things in life that we ought not forget, ever. God has done some pretty amazing things in our lives, but we have a good forgetter. We ignore the fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. We may have excepted Him as our Lord and Savior at one time in our life but somehow, over time we become part of the world. Some might even say, out of sight-out of mind; meaning that since Jesus is now in Heaven next to God the Father and is interceding for us, but we have forgotten all that He has done for us.

The problem with that is twofold, first of all, we are to give thanks in all circumstances.

If we have forgotten the existence of God, how on earth are we going to recognize and thank Him for all He has done. Secondly, Hebrews

Dear Motor Medics, I’ve got a noise under my hood that despite several attempts at repair persists. The vehicle is a 2004 Chevy Tahoe with the 5.3 engine and upon startup it will chirp from the engine drive belts for about 15 minutes no matter what the conditions. We have tried to repair this by switching the belt which resolved it for about a week. The next thing we tried was to replace the tensioner in hopes that the belt tension was incorrect. After the tensioner replacement, it lasted another week then was back to chirping again. Have you had this problem before and if so what kind of things have you done to stop the noise? My mechanic suggests trying a Gatorback belt. What is a Gatorback belt, and do you think it may help?

-Daryl in Sheldon, Iowa Dear Daryl, When we have belt squeaks, we look very closely at all of the rotating parts to make certain there is not a problem with alignment or wear that could be the root cause of the noise. We also check for proper tension and make sure the pulleys all have good bearings.

With that all done we install a new belt and if it squeaks again soon after we sometimes use the Gatorback belt which is different in design in that it has grooves on both sides of the belt which can help to eliminate noise by providing a better gripping surface area.

Swanville City • May 3, 2022 Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting held in the Swanville Center on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. The meeting called to order 7:00 p.m. with the following members present: Sandy Lange, John Dragseth, and Norm Carlson. Absent: Jim Molitor and Tony Maciej. Also present: reporter Terry Lehrke.

Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting Tuesday, April 5, 2022 were reviewed. A motion was made by John Dragseth to approve the minutes. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The treasures report was given. A motion was made by Norm Carlson and seconded by John Dragseth to approve the treasurer’s report. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Mayor Lange reported Moore Engineering was present in the morning to finish some preliminary water storage tank and new water line plans.

A generator will be on location for the tank. Another lift station for residents to have access for the Forest Hill Lane property area was discussed.

Water pressure was an issue one night in the City. The problem was turkey growers needed a large amount of water on their farms. The city clerk will charge the different farms accordingly for the water which was taken.

A reminder of the City Clean-up Day, Saturday, May 7 from 9-11 a.m. at the City Park.

It was reported to the council that dogs are running free within the city limits. The mayor will put an ad in reminding residents dogs must be on a lease and to have consideration for your neighbors.

John Hoogenhaus is asking for a land use permit to install a 60’x35 concrete driveway and a 12’x25’ concrete slab. All set backs have been made. John Dragseth made a motion give Hoogenhaus the land use permit. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Delinquent water bills were looked at and discussed. Letters will be sent out and water will be turned off on delinquent residents.

The Energy and Environment grant amounting to $20,000.00 will be used for led bulbs in the ornamental main street lights and tree planting on Springbrook Drive.

The following claims were presented for payment. Members of the council were furnished with a listing. Norm Carlson made a motion to approve the claims. John Dragseth seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the Swanville Center.

There being no further business, a motion was made by John Dragseth and seconded by Norm Carlson to adjourn. All members voted in favor, motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:30 p.m.

Julie Hollermann, City Clerk/Treasurer Upsala City • June 6, 2022 Call to Order/Attendance: The City Council meeting was called to order at City Hall by Mayor Rollie Johnson at 7:00 P.M. The pledge of allegiance was said.

On roll call members present: Mayor Rollie Johnson, Council Members Lana Bartells, Crystal Benson, Wendy Rene, and Mitch Lange.

Staff present: First Response Vice President Danielle Haus, Public Works Director Mike Tschida, and City Clerk-Treasurer Jane Popp, and Fire Chief Nick Johnson.

Minutes: Bartells moved to approve the regular city council meeting minutes from May 2, 2022, 2nd by Lange. Motion carried unanimously.

Lange moved to approve the closed city council meeting minutes from May 2, 2022, 2nd

by Rene. Motion carried unanimously.

Added agenda items: Lange moved to approve the agenda as presented, 2nd by Rene. Motion carried unanimously.

Review agenda: Lange moved to approve the city council agenda for June 6, 2022, 2nd by Bartells. Motion carried unanimously.

Presentations: Karin Nelson – Insurance Upgrade City Insurance Agent Karin Nelson presented information on upgrading the City’s insurance.

Karin will provide more data and the city council will make a decision next meeting.

Department Reports: Fire Department Report: Fire Chief Nick Johnson updated the council on the Fire Department’s activities including monthly trainings after each meeting.

First Response Team: First Response Team Vice President Danielle Haus reported the calls for May. She shared that the annual Memorial Day Service meal on Monday, May 30 at the Rec Building was a huge success. The officers would like to meet with the city council on an annual basis.

Maintenance Report: Tschida reported on water and sewer levels as well as the various tasks done throughout the City.

Tschida stated he would like to post on facebook that people need to run the sump pump outside and not into the floor drains.

City Office Report: Popp reviewed the June calendar and reported on the projects worked on in May. Planning Commission: Don Marty shared that at the planning and zoning meeting they did a review of land sites for future potential and use to be zoned commercial.

Public Hearing: Mayor Johnson recessed the regular city council meeting and opened the public hearing at 7:41 pm; a hearing on the request for a Conditional Use Permit for Chris and Crystal Benson at 204 Borgstrom Street to have up to ten chickens on their property.

Two letters were read aloud. Various neighbors shared their views on the issue.

Lange moved to close the public hearing, 2nd

by Bartells. Motion carried unanimously.

Mayor Johnson called the regular City Council meeting back to order at 7:51 pm.

Rene moved to approve the Conditional Use Permit for Chris and Crystal Benson to have up to ten chickens with understanding it must be reviewed immediately if complaints are made and provided the permit be reviewed annually, 2nd by Bartells. Crystal abstained from voting. Motion carried unanimously.

Unfinished Business: New Well Location: Johnson reported that he talked Jim Kuebellbeck, an underground water locator (a.k.a. a water witcher) and the most it would cost is $1,500.

Rene moved to approve to hire underground locating at a cost that will not exceed $1,500, 2nd

by Benson. Motion carried unanimously.

Park Bathrooms – Don’t need a motion Johnson gave an update. The council asked staff to get an estimate of how much more it would cost to do tankless.

Paving West Street and 3rd Avenue: Johnson explained that the second quote received to repair West Street and 3rd Avenue was more expensive than Central Minnesota Paving.

Bingo Permit for Oct 2 & 23: Benson moved to approve a gambling permit for St. Mary’s Catholic Church to have Bingo on Oct 2, 2022 with no waiting period, 2nd by Rene. Motion carried unanimously.

An Eat Funny

Little Josh was brought to Dr. Gill cause he hadn't eaten anything for days. Dr. Gill offered him all the goodies he could think of. No luck.

He tried a little scolding. It didn't work. A little pleading, to no avail.

Finally he sat down, faced the boy, looked him in the eye. He said, "Look young man, if you can be stubborn, so can I. You're not going anywhere until you eat something. You can have whatever you want, but only after you have eaten will you leave."

Josh just sat and glared for some time, then said, "OK. I'll eat but I have some conditions.

First, I'll have exactly what I want and exactly how I want it and second you'll share with me."

Dr. Gill was OK with this. He asked the child what he'd like. "Worms!" said Josh.

Dr. Gill was horrified but didn't want to back out and seem like a loser. So, he ordered a plate of worms to be brought in. "Not that many, just one," yelled Josh as he saw the plate.

So, everything other than one worm was removed. Josh then demanded that the single worm be cut into two pieces and then Dr. Gill eat half. Dr. Gill went through the worst ordeal of his life, and after finishing, barely managing to keep his cool, said, "OK, now eat!"

Josh refused as he sobbed, "No way! You ate my half!"
