mistakes people make. They don’t introduce themselves when they have an opportunity. It seems like no one talks to anyone anymore. Social media is a wonderful tool, but it shouldn’t be the only tool in your toolbox. There is no substitute for personal interaction.

You’ve heard me expound on the notion that our lives basically change in two ways – the books we read and the people we meet. I hammer that message home every time I speak to a group. I also tell the audience that the people on your left, right, front and back, might be more important in building an effective network than any speaker you will hear over a lifetime. Your network will have a tremendous impact on your net worth.

I’m not the only one who thinks that way. Warren Buffet, the billionaire investment genius, claims, “If you improve your communication skills, I will guarantee you that you will earn 50 percent more money over your lifetime.”

When I speak I share a time-tested exercise to help develop communication skills – the two-minute drill. I did this two-minute drill for the first time in my hometown of Minneapolis in the early ’90s with 1,000 people in the audience.

Within two weeks, I received over 35 letters and cards telling me that thanks to the drill they were either doing business with the person they met or had a high

probability of doing business with them.

And I’d bet there were plenty of others who struck oil but didn’t bother to write.

This exercise is meaningful because almost invariably my mail tells me that it really “jump starts” the habit of networking.

Here’s how the drill works: I ask the audience to look around and ask someone they don’t know to be their partner. When the whistle blows, they have two minutes to tell that person everything about themselves that they regard as worth telling. A total of two minutes for background, achievement, hopes, dreams, goals, hobbies, marriage, children, frustrations over the hometown team’s latest trade – everything they can think of.

When the two minutes are up, the whistle blows again, and it’s the other person’s turn. It’s amazing what you can learn about another person in just two minutes.

I’ll be out of their lives and back home on my deck before the day is over.

But the person they just met might be in their lives forever.

Get out and get to know people all around you. Volunteer work. Political clubs. Hobby groups. Service clubs.

Church groups. Industry associations.

“The Good Old Days” -By Tom Kuehne Deer Flies

Those of us who spend any amount of time outdoors during the summer months are bombarded by deer flies.

They constantly circle our upper body and when we least expect it, they will land on an exposed part of our bodies and inject their stinger. The sting is not only uncomfortable, but in some cases the sting will itch and swell causing additional discomfort In years past most of us spent many more hours outdoors. Whether we were gardening, picking wild berries or getting the cows home, those darn deer flies were constantly harassing us, the cattle or the dog. Building or repairing a fence, especially in a wooded area, was evidently a signal to the swarms of deer flies that there was a potential banquet available and they should all head for the picnic.

Today there are some products available that will help to repel flying insects. Some are creams and others are spray-on items. I have tried a few of them, but usually go back to methods that worked years ago.

When getting the cows, I usually had nothing in my hands, so I would break a leafy branch from a tree or bush and when I was being circled, I would vigorously wave the branch over my head and that would give a temporary reprieve. This of course didn’t work if you had the .22 in one hand and a cow chasing stick in the other.

Another method was to put a white towel around your shoulders and when attacked, waive it around. Something

about the white color was a deterrent.

Vicks, the product that was used to relieve a head or chest cold, actually works very well. The deer flies don’t like the smell, the greasy application stays on the exposed parts of your body very well. The only disadvantage is that when the skin area that has the Vicks on it is exposed to direct sunlight it does become quite warm. The neighbor may also ask you if you have a summer cold.

The bug mask also works well. It is a combination of head covering and a cloth mesh which covers down to the neck, but the rest of your body is subject to attack.

My very favorite method is to get an old hat that you were thinking about throwing away. Get some old style sticky fly strips (the ones that were always hung in the stores years ago) and wrap one around the hat. You will probably need to fasten it in some way on both ends. This method gave me the most satisfaction, since a deer fly will begin to circle and would usually make it’s first landing on an upper part of your being which is your hat. You know how frustrating those deer flies can be, but when you hear one buzzing and suddenly stop, followed by a feeble second of buzz and then silence, you get a really good feeling. Kind-of like, “Yes, got ya” and “another one bites the dust.”

When you get back to the house there is another feeling of satisfaction when you count the deer-fly bodies stuck to the fly strip. You are not really evil, but you are convinced that they deserve to die.

In football, if you mess up the twominute drill there is a very good chance you’ll lose the game. In networking, if you mess up the two-minute drill there is a very good chance you will miss a major opportunity.

I learned this first-hand on a flight.

I was on my way to do a speech, and I wasn’t as prepared as I wanted to be, so I planned on using the time on the plane to make revisions, instead of networking.

So, when the woman next to me tried to strike up a conversation, I smiled and told her I was working on deadline.

Dave Says -By Dave Ramsey Dear Dave, I want to build an 18unit apartment complex, but I don’t have enough cash to do it on my own. My net worth is around $400,000, and I have $100,000 I can put toward this project. It is estimated to cost $1.2 million.

Would lining up investors, who will take a percentage of the profits, be the same thing as acquiring debt?

-Jay Dear Jay, It wouldn’t be the same as taking on debt because if there are no profits, the investors get nothing. It’s more like taking on partners and what you would call an equity position — meaning they’re owners in the business. They may have only limited rights as owners, but essentially you’re taking on partners.

There’s a method that was used in the old days that’s still available today called syndicating a piece of real estate. You would set yourself up as the general partner and set the investors up as limited partners.

They would be limited in their input, because the general partner runs the show.

They can be given the lion’s share of the tax write-off, and the depreciation schedule.

Traditionally in those models, the general partner takes less of the depreciation schedule but gets a fee for running things and has a position of ownership.

There’s a restriction under Blue Sky Laws on the number of limited partnership units allowed before it becomes a situation

where you’re selling stock. Check with your state and current securities laws to be sure of the exact number to avoid any impropriety. You can do a limited partnership or syndicate a piece of real estate, but they can both be very messy and time consuming for the money you get out of it.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s a good method for you to buy an apartment complex at this stage of your investing life. It’s more like a way for you to get into the business of running a bunch of limited partners with a ton of paperwork and bookkeeping thrown in. It doesn’t sound like a lot of fun to me.

If I were in your shoes, I’d use the $100,000 in cash to buy a money-making property — maybe a nice rental house.

Then, save your money, invest and buy another one. And again, save the money, invest and buy another one, over and over again. It’s a gradual process, but I don’t teach or advise people to go into partnerships or borrow money.

Obituaries Margaret “Marcy” Heinen Margaret “Marcy” Heinen, age 77 of Avon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home.

A Memorial Mass was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon with Rev. Greg Miller.

Margaret Valeria Friedrichs was born November 28, 1939 in Sauk Centre, MN to Roman and Johanna (Koch) Friedrichs.

Marcy graduated from Sauk Centre High School. She worked at Thoel’s Dental Lab in her early years and then worked at the Avon Elementary School as a secretary until her retirement. Marcy married Terry Heinen on January 6, 1962 at Holy Angels Parish in St. Cloud.

Marcy was a big fan of all Minnesota sports teams. She enjoyed playing cards, crafting, baking, and occasional trips to the casino. Marcy was a member of the Christian Mothers and St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon where she was involved in bible study and the meals on wheels program for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Terry Heinen of Avon; children, Mary Beth (Jeff) Crawford of Oconomowoc, WI and Renee Tamm of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Allison Tamm, Megan Datta, Nic Herda, Ben Tamm, Emily Schlangen, Nate Crawford, Maria Crawford, and John

Timothy M. McDonald Timothy Mark McDonald, age 54 of rural Swanville, died Saturday, July 22, 2017 at his quiet country home surrounded by his sisters and many others who Tim considered his family.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 4th at St. Mary Catholic Church in Upsala, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at 10:00 a.m until mass begins.

She liked to do crosswords, loved her jewelry and was always trying out the new infomercial products. Cindy loved to spoil her grandchildren; she had a great personality and loved to joke around. She was a very strong person and always spoke her mind.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Allen of Long Prairie; children: Joshua (Janell) Schultz of Swanville, Danielle (Jeremy) Clasemann of Long Prairie, grandchildren: Spencer Clasemann, Logan Clasemann, Parker Schultz and Harlee Schultz, siblings: Ann Sundberg of Alexandria, Jackie (Dave) Gosiak of Browerville and Theresa Byland of Albany.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents; brother Randy, sister Chrissy and brother-in-law Dennis Schultz.

In that Word of God, which God entrusted to Jacob/Israel decedents, the Creator set forth rules and laws by which Man was to live by. Because God loved the world He intended Israel (The keeper of the Word) to be a blessing to the whole world.

Unfortunately, most of the world has turned against them, God, and the Word of God. Most are totally unaware that the Holy Bible says, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you.” Nor do they know God gave ownership of the Holy Land to Israel, forever and ever. Those who favor dividing that land are going against God Almighty and His commands. Man brings the curse of God upon themselves.

C y n t h i a Schultz, 60, of Long Prairie, passed away on July 21, 2017 in the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services for Cindy will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie with Pastor Noah Wehrspann officiating. Friends may begin calling one hour prior to the service at the church.

Cindy was born December 9, 1956, in Long Prairie, to Allen & Janet (Hockemeyer) Sundberg. She graduated from the Long Prairie High School and on July 31, 1976, married Allen Schultz.

Cindy enjoyed camping, playing cards and especially playing Yahtzee and

God designed and gave them, to concoct ideas contrary to God’s truth of his creation. Too late, upon their death, they discovered the truth, when their souls were cast into Hell. So much for fame and fortune!

Instead of believing God and His Word, most men put their trust in Man’s ideas, such as in evolution and the big bang. They doubt God’s supernatural powers and credit time and nature for the existence of everything. But God, the Creator, and His son Jesus (the Word of God), claim they created everything, and that they were there at creation time.

So was the Holy Ghost.

God proved his existence and power thousands of times. You find that in the Holy Bible. In that Bible, you will find God loves his creation, specially Man, who was created in their image. Those who through unbelief and sin fail to obey his laws will be judged by those laws. Only through God’s salvation plan can one get to heaven. The blood of Jesus can cover all sins if you believe, repent, and follow Him.

Kelly Kennedy of Grey Eagle, has been named to the 2017 spring semester Dean’s List at Luther College.

Luther College’s spring 2017 Dean’s List includes 743 students; 56 first-years, 146 sophomores, 210 juniors and 331 seniors. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades (A, B, C, D).

Minnesota Students Honored at Annual SkillsUSA Workforce Development Event A career and technical student in Minnesota won one of the nations highest awards at the 2017 SkillsUSA Championships, held in Louisville, KY, on June 21-22, 2017. More than 6,000 students competed at the national showcase of career and technical education. The SkillsUSA Championships is the largest skill competition in the world and covers 1.4 million square feet, equivalent to 20 football fields or 25 acres.

Students were invited to the event to demonstrate their technical skills, workplace skills and personal skills in 100 hands-on occupational and leadership competitions including robotics, automotive technology, drafting, criminal justice, aviation maintenance and public speaking. Industry leaders from 600 businesses, corporations, trade associations and unions planned and evaluated the contestants against their standards for entry-level workers. Industry support of the SkillsUSA Championships is valued at over $36 million in donated time, equipment, cash and material.

More than 1,700 industry judges and technical committee members participated this year.

The Swanville Lions Club made its first of three $30,000 donations to the Swanville Rural Fire Association for the purchase of a new pumper truck. The total $90,000 donation will be paid over three years to replace a 30-year-old vehicle.

The fire department covers the city of Swanville, all of Swanville and Culdrum Townships and part of Burnhamville and Bruce Townships. The Holdingford FFA Alumni held it’s 4th annual Tractor Drive on July 8th in conjunction with Holdingford Daze. A total of 45 tractors made the journey that started at the Holdingford High School parking lot with a tractor blessing.

Every now and then it is good to take a “morning inventory” and reflect on the grace of God. This morning when I opened my eyes I thanked God for protecting me while I slept. As I turned off the alarm clock, I thanked Him for sounds and my hearing. As I rested for a moment before I got out of bed I could feel my beating heart which He kept going while I slept.

As I stood up, I thanked Him for my balance, healthy legs and my slippers.

As I took a shower, I thanked Him for the warm water, shampoo, soap, a towel and a mat on the floor to keep me from slipping. Then I continued by thanking

Him for a mirror, razor, deodorant and on and on until I thanked Him for all of the articles of clothing He provided for me to wear today.

And then I thanked Him for the words of the psalmist that reminded me of His promise: “no good thing will He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”

It was then that I had to pause in deep humility and gratefully thank Him for His love and grace that I do not deserve. It is so easy for me to accept the gifts of God - including my salvation without realizing that everything I have or ever have had are gifts from God. And as I reflected on that verse the word blameless kept ringing in my ears as though it was my friendly alarm clock. I, of all people, am certainly not blameless. As I meditated on the word blameless for a few minutes and thought about everything I am or have, it’s not because I am blameless. It’s because of His unending love and grace!

Melrose City June 15, 2017 The Melrose City Council met in a Regular Meeting on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Melrose City Center pursuant to due notice being given thereof. Present were Council Members Tony Klasen, Justin Frieler, Dick Christenson, and Josh Thieschafer, Mayor Joe Finken, Finance Director Tessa Beuning, and City Clerk Patti Haase. City Administrator Michael Brethorst was absent. Mayor Finken presided thereat. The Council then recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

A motion was made by Mr. Thieschafer, seconded by Mr. Frieler and unanimously carried to approve the agenda as submitted.

Mayor Finken then opened the floor to public comment. Alex Martinez addressed the Council expressing his concern for the drug problem that exists in the City. Mr. Martinez stated that it is just as easy to buy meth as it is to get a Whooper. Mr. Martinez spoke about his own personal experience with drugs from earlier in his life and wanted to bring awareness to the community of the current situation here in Melrose.

The following items were considered for approval under the Consent Agenda: • the minutes from the Councils May 18 Special Joint Meeting with the Public Utilities Commission, the Council’s May 18 Regular Meeting, and the May 25 Special Meeting.

• list of bills in the amount of $340,140.70.

• list of investments for the month of May. • Gambling Resolution No. 2017-33, Melrose Lions to conduct off-site gambling on June 2324 at the Riverfest Celebration.

1) Donation Resolution No. 2017-35, donation in the amount of $1,829.48 from the Loren Pundsack Collision Center towards the repair of the Melrose Fire Department fire truck.

2) Donation Resolution No. 2017-39, donation in the amount of $1,800 from the New Munich Jaycees to the Melrose Area Chamber of Commerce for the Riverfest celebration.

• EMT Jeremy Vearrier has submitted his letter of resignation from the Melrose Ambulance Department effective May 8, 2017.

A motion was made by Mr. Christenson, seconded by Mr. Thieschafer and unanimously carried to approve the Consent Agenda items.

Police Chief Craig Maus conducted the Swearing-in Ceremony with an Oath of Office and pinning of badge for Police Officers Jeff Eggert and Jamie Green.

Police Chief Craig Maus presented the Police Department’s May report. He noted there were 349 calls for service during that month, compared to 382 for May 2016. There was a total of nine written citations and 42 verbal warnings for the month of May 2017. The year-to-date number of calls is 1363 compared to 1765 in 2016. For the month of May 2017, the Department received 21 agency-assist calls. The Police Department has begun conducting re-inspection on those properties that were sited with a nuisance violation. Many of the properties have come into compliance. Chief Maus stated that due to ongoing investigations, he was not able to provide detail on the comments made earlier by Mr. Martinez; however, he did state that the Drug Task Force does have personnel working in the area. Chief Maus stated that the Police Department is actively working with the Drug Task Force and there have been behind-the-scene activities taking place.

Community Development Director Creelman provided an update on the Planning and Zoning Commission’s June 5 meeting and the MADA’s June 13 meeting.

The Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the request by J-T of Melrose Inc. for a variance due to the inability to meet the structure height requirements as per City Code. MADA reviewed the request for TIF assistance from a business owner who is seeking to expand its commercial space. The preliminary discussions indicate there will be both tax base growth and job retention.

MADA also reviewed the request for TIF assistance from a business that is seeking to develop a lot that has been vacant for several years.

City Attorney Scott Dymoke reported on projects he has been working on for the City.

• Community Development, Jennie-O Turkey Store (JOTS) Project: Worked with City staff to prepare utility easements and BDPI Declaration. Worked with City staff to determine EAW requirements for project.

• Community Development, Willow Project: Worked with City staff to prepare restated purchase agreements to address additional requirements for JOTS project.

• Community Development, St. Mary’s Church: Worked with City staff to determine EAW requirements for new facility and preparation of correspondence to Church officials notifying them of EAW requirements.

• Community Development, Zoning & Subdivision: Worked with City staff to determine zoning and subdivisions requirements for possible future development projects.

• Nuisance Actions, Continued with the City Council Orders directing abatement of nuisance conditions on Melrose Community LLC property.

• EDA Application: Worked with City staff on preparing responses to the EDA Application Mayor Finken reported that the City received their annual quote for general liability, errors and omissions, auto, equipment, and property insurance through the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) for the period of May 15, 2017 - May 15, 2018. The total quote is $70,945 from $70,992 for the 2016-2017 coverage, basically remaining flat for premium cost. The cost for the premium is shared between the General at 39% and Utility Funds at 61%.

The City’s insurance coverage has a $5,000 deductible, $15,000 aggregate. The City needs to decide whether or not to waive the statutory tort liability limits. The decision to waive or not to waive the statutory limits has the following effects: 1. If the City does not waive the statutory limits, an individual claimant would be able to recover no more than $500,000 on any claim to which the statutory limits apply. The total which all claimants would be able to recover for a single occurrence to which the statutory tort limits apply would be limited to $1,500,000. These statutory tort limits would apply regardless of whether or not the City purchases the optional excess liability coverage.

2. If the City waives the statutory tort limits and does not purchase excess liability cover-

age, a single claimant could potentially recover up to $1,500,000 on a single occurrence. The total which all claimants would be able to recover for a single occurrence to which the statutory tort limits apply would also be limited to $1,500,000 regardless of the number of claimants.

3. If the City waives the statutory tort limits and purchases excess liability coverage ($1 million for $11,099), a single claimant could potentially recover an amount up to the limit of the coverage purchased. The total which all claimants would be able to recover for a single occurrence to which the statutory tort limits apply would also be limited to the amount of coverage purchased, regardless of the number of claimants. In the past the City has not purchased the excess liability coverage.

In the past, the City has chosen Option 2.

A motion was made by Mr. Thieschafer seconded by Mr. Frieler and unanimously carried concurring with the Utilities Commission approving the insurance quote of $70,945, to waive the monetary limits on municipal tort liability, to keep the deductible at $5,000/$15,000, and not purchase excess liability coverage.

Planning and Development Director Mike Creelman stated that at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting held on June 5th, 2017, the Commission held a public hearing and recommend to the Council that the Variance be approved. The Variance is received to accommodate a request submitted by J-T of Melrose for the expansion of the warehouse facility. The variance allows for the maximum height of structures to be 55 feet versus the Zoning ordinance maximum height of 40 feet. Resolution No. 2017-38 Variance Requested by J-T of Melrose Inc. Mayor Finken stated that MADA Board Member Gene Enneking has resigned his position on the MADA board. Don Brower has submitted an application for appointment to the MADA Board to fill the vacancy.

Mayor Finken appointed Don Brower to the MADA Board to fill the vacancy created with the resignation of Mr. Enneking. The Council concurred with the appointment. The term will expire on 01/01/2020.

Mayor Finken noted that in 2008, Stearns County created an All-Hazard Mitigation Plan that outlined hazards that the City of Melrose is exposed to, strategies to reduce or eliminate those hazards, and the time frame for implementing these strategies. The City signed a letter of intent to be a part of this planning process, and participated in the process and in December 2011 adopted Resolu-

tion No. 2011-53 Resolution of the City of Melrose Adopting of the Stearns County All-Hazard Mitigation Plan. Stearns County has updated the plan.

A motion was made by Mr. Klasen, seconded by Mr. Thieschafer and unanimously carried adopting Resolution No. 2017-34, Resolution of the City of Melrose Adoption of the Stearns County All- Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Mayor Finken stated that Jenny Mayers on behalf of the Transportation Committee is asking for consideration to increase the city’s 2017 contribution to the Tri Cap bus service from $2,500 to $3,500.

They are also soliciting donations from other various organizations.

The bus service continues to see increased usage; however, the service is largely funded through donations. Council member Thieschafer was in support of the additional contribution, however would like to encourage donation solicitations from other organizations and therefore recommended the additional $1,000 contribution be a matching contribution with a maximum of $1,000.

A motion was made by Mr. Thieschafer seconded by Mr. Frieler and unanimously carried approving the city’s 2017 contribution in the amount of $2,500 with an additional $1,000 maximum matching contribution.

Mayor Finken stated that the City of Melrose entered a branch library agreement with Great River Regional Library (“GRRL”) in July 2004. In July 2016, GRRL adopted a new branch library agreement for use in its system.

The new branch library agreement was submitted to the City of Melrose in August 2016 for review.

Melrose City staff, in conjunction with the Cities of Sauk Centre and Albany, proposed several revisions to the proposed July 2016 branch library agreement. Following discussions with GRRL, a revised branch library agreement was submitted to Albany, Sauk Centre, and Melrose in late 2016. The revised branch library agreement addresses most of the concerns raised by City staff. The new branch library agreement, as revised, has been adopted by Albany and Sauk Centre, GRRL has requested that Melrose also adopt the agreement City staff recommends adoption of the new GRRL branch library agreement, as revised.

Police Chief Craig Maus has contacted Stearns County regarding the termination of contract for police services. Chief Maus has submitted notice of termination of contract effective July 28, 2017 or sooner.

Mayor Finken stated that the Council at its May 18th meeting voted to direct WSB to prepare final Engineering / Planning estimates to finalize the projects noted: Kraft Lot Re-Plat, Kraft Wall Re-design and 1st Street NE. The Council also directed through consensus to explore one last redesign option of the bridge and to come back to the Council with cost estimates to determine what it would cost to assess this option and discuss cost and benefits in doing so. Mike Nielson with WSB provided a summary of the bridge discussions and the current plan elements. Mr. Nielson then reviewed the alternate plan and the process to relocate or re-align the channel. The Council reviewed the associated costs and the pros and cons of relocating the channel and bridge. Mr. Nielson noted that final project funding list will be available in the next 2-3 weeks at which time they will know if funding is in the bonding bill for the Melrose bridge and if so the time line for construction.

The Council by consensus tabled action on the proposals for the Kraft Lot Re-Plat, Kraft Wall Re-design, 1st Street NE, and the bridge redesign to the July meeting at which time the final project funding list will be available.

Community Development Director Creelman noted that on May 24th, a request for TIF assistance was submitted to City staff for a business located in the C-2 district. MADA at its June 13th meeting recommended to the Council to approve the TIF assistance for the development. Social Media: It Really Is Forever Stearns County Sheriff’s News

By John Young I don’t think the story about the Grinch Who Stole Christmas could happen today in this world of social media.

This past week I have been witness to another online failing in the world of social media. First, a bit of background: Many of you know that I also work as a wedding entertainer who will act as the master of ceremonies and play music for weddings. I have a very extensive network of DJs world wide and when someone makes a social media gaff; that information is shared very quickly on this digital grape vine.

This particular person was frustrated about the lack of sales his business was making. It was the competition’s fault, it was the client’s fault, it was the venues disrespecting him and his business, and those things were posts he has put on his business Facebook page! Digging into his Facebook business page lead to more discoveries that show the true root of the problem.

You see, first off, EVERYTHING you post on social media these days should be considered as a forever type of thing. You have to be MUCH more careful than ever before with what you post because it will reflect on you, or your business, or your family for a long time. I can share many examples of folks posting something HORRIBLY negative or degrading which was posted in anger and removed within seconds of the posting. It is out there and circulating. Just assume if you post something edgy, that someone else is capturing that post with a screen shot which can be shared for years to come and at the absolute worst times.

Back to our example: this person had a history of complaining about cheap clients and horrible venues. There are posts like ‘brides aren’t smart enough to know to hire a good DJ over buying an iPod DJ’ along with posts complaining about how venues inconvenienced him.

I am going to guess that his local competition took screen shots of his comments and HAPPILY shared them with the venues in his area. “Looks

like this guy is hard to work with when it bashes your venue after the event!”

If you don’t think your competition would use your social media flubs to sell against you; you are only fooling yourself! Why as a bride would I want to hire such a negative person and risk being the target of a future rant based on some jerk DJ’s twisted thoughts on how MY wedding should go?

This person’s business is about finished. It is truly a case of self-inflected wounds, and those are directly related to social media posts which reflected a horrible attitude.

Even if this person would change their life tomorrow and their attitude switched as the Grinch did in that favorite Christmas story, the damage has already been done, and it will dog him and anything he does for the rest of his self-employed life.

“I don’t plan to open a business, why should I care about this?” Well, even though you might not need to make a sale like our example above, you will at one time or another be looking for a job, or trying to connect with people you want to impress. If you have a history of social media negativity, bashing, and degrading of people and things; you are setting yourself up for failure. If your online profile includes a ton of photos with you out drinking and partying, and now you would like to apply for a job working at a school; you might be out of consideration even before you would get to an interview.

To pull from a line from a Prince song: Social Media; “It means forever and that’s a mighty long time.”

On July 7, 2017, Deputy Adam Johnson and his K9 partner Jax were on patrol in western Stearns County on Interstate 94 near Sauk Centre. K9 Jax is one of the drug detection dogs utilized by the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 1:23 a.m., Deputy Johnson stopped a car to speak with driver about his non-functioning headlight. While speaking with the driver, Deputy Johnson smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. Due to the odor, Deputy Johnson used his K9 to conduct a “sniff” search around the outside of the car. Jax alerted on the car and a more thorough search was conducted.

During the course of that search, the trunk was opened and Deputy Johnson found a male hiding inside, who was later identified as Samuel Butler. Butler had a warrant out of Stearns County for 3rd degree assault and was arrested.

Butler was also in possession of .6 grams of methamphetamine, 2.5 grams of cocaine and several hypodermic needles.

Neither the driver of the car, Alex Streitz, nor the passenger, Trevor Anderson, informed the deputy or assisting officers that Butler was in the trunk.

Both Streitz and Anderson were arrested for Aiding an Offender and booked into the Stearns County Jail. Officers from the Sauk Centre Police Department assisted Stearns County on this case.

July 17, 2017: At 09:36 Todd County Sheriffs Office received a theft complaint in Burnhamville Twp. It was reported that between 7-10-17 and 7-17-17 someone had stolen a red Kawasaki Mule side by side and a green Sears riding lawn mower. July 17, 2017: At 11:43 Suzette Rotty of Burtrum reported a theft of tools sometime over the last month, a small tool box, skill saw and propane tank were taken.

July 17, 2017: At 14:25 Todd County Sheriffs Office received a theft report in Bruce Twp. reporting that sometime between 6-10-17 and 7-17-17 someone had stolen a battery off of a camper. Any information on this incident please contact the Todd County Sheriffs Office

July 18, 2017: At 08:16 a theft of a lawn tractor push blade and a weed whipper were reported stolen from a Turkey barn South of Swanville on County 104.

July 23, 2017: At 15:10 Russell Cordie was traveling south on County Road 102 in Grey Eagle Township when he struck a deer with his Subaru wagon. The vehicle sustained front end and head light damage. Cordie was uninjured in the crash.

July 24, 2017: At 13:21 the Todd County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hit and run property damage accident on Gooseberry Trail. Amber Christiansen, 20 of Long Prairie, had a vehicle on the side of the road. Connie Moore, 57 of Long Prairie, backed into the vehicle and left the scene. Moore did return and take care of the matter. No injuries occurred.

July 25, 2017: At 06:39 the Todd County Sheriff’s Office assisted the MN State Patrol with a truck versus buggy accident on State 27 a mile west of US 71. Eli Yoder, 20, and Dan Yoder, 16, of Long Prairie were traveling westbound in their buggy when a truck driven

by Joseph Cecko, 35 of Little Falls, rear ended the buggy when he came over the hill. The Yoder’s were both transported to the CentraCare Hospital in Long Prairie with severe injuries.

Joseph was not injured during the collision.

Long Prairie Fire Department, Long Prairie Police Department and Petries Towing also assisted with the accident.
