Obituaries Marie R. Marthaler
Marie R. Marthaler, age 95 of Meire Grove, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Meire Grove. The St. Mary’s Society and Poor Soul’s Society will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Marie Rosina Schneider was born November 15, 1921 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to John and Bernadine (Kerkering) Schneider. Marie attended Country School and completed through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Marthaler on September 10, 1946 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Gilbert and Marie made their home on a farm north of Meire Grove for 32 years, where she was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning, and baking. Before her marriage, Marie was a baby nurse for area families and also worked at Weber’s Grocery in Greenwald, the Egg Plant, and Schulzetenberg Hardware in Melrose. After moving to town in 1978, she served

as an election judge, and cleaned at St. John’s School in Meire Grove for 16 years, retiring at age 88. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Society, Poor Soul’s Society, Holy Rosary Society, St. John’s Mission Group where she served as President for 30 years, and also sang in the church choir for 22 years. Marie enjoyed quilting and embroidery, working word find puzzles, playing cards and BINGO, and watching game shows and baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins and the Meire Grove Grovers. She was known for her “amazing dressing” at family gatherings. Survivors include her children, Allen (Jean) Marthaler of St. Joseph, Gary (Irene) Marthaler of Meire Grove, Jan (Chuck) Schaefer of Melrose, and Annette (Jerry) Gruber of Belgrade; nine grandchildren, Amy Trentacoste (significant other, Patrick Geislinger), Jeff Marthaler (significant other, Kate Lechner), Eric (Kayla), Kyle (Amy), and Kurt Marthaler, Nicole (Matt) Lauer and Scott (Kari) Schaefer, Steven (Kayla) and Joseph Gruber; eight greatgrandchildren; brothers and sisters, Clara Frieler of Melrose, Ludvina Ostendorf of St. Cloud, Joe Schneider of Meire Grove, Arlene Gully of Paynseville, and Lorraine Inderrieden of St. Cloud. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Marthaler on August 10, 2000; sister, Leona Schneider; and brothers, Werner, Leo, and Elmer Schneider. Serving as casket bearers will be Kyle Marthaler, Kurt Marthaler, Scott Schaefer, Jeff Marthaler, Steven Gruber, and Joseph Gruber. Cross bearer will be Eric Marthaler and scripture bearer will be Nicole Lauer. Readers will be Amy Trentacoste and Nicole Lauer and gift bearers will be Kayla Marthaler, Kari Schaefer, Amy Marthaler, and Kayla Gruber. Honorary bearers will be St. Mary’s Society. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.

The Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating the life of Dorothy H u b e r t i n a (Lange) Meier, age 95, of Holdingford, MN, International Woman of Mystery, was held 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 21 at the Church of All Saints, St. Mary’s in Holdingford. Burial was in the parish cemetery. She died peacefully in her home on the Meier Farm, very well aware of the love of her family and many friends around her. Dorothy was born August 13, 1921 in Krain Township, Stearns County, to Henry and Johanna (Gerads) Lange. She grew up in the St. Francis area and graduated
from Upsala High School in 1939. She married Cyril Meier on June 7th, 1945 in St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Francis, MN. The couple lived on the Meier Farm in Holdingford for 71 years all of their live long days. She was a member of the Church of All Saints, St. Mary’s and the St. Mary’s Christian Women. She is survived by her children, Lenore (Myles) Dawson, Avon; Leone (Clarence) Fowler, Holdingford; Patrick (Deb) Meier, Holdingford; and her sister Bernice Welters, Crystal and ten grandchildren, and eleven greatgrandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Cyril, her sisters and brother; Cecilia Livingston, Elizabeth (Walbert) Stueve, Louise (Lloyd) Hagstrom, Virginia (Tom) Gobel and Alfred Lange. Also, her great-grandson, Caden.

YasgarLashinski, 79 year old resident of Little Falls, MN formerly of Sobieski, MN passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN with Father Tim Wenzel officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Stanislaus Parish Cemetery in Sobieski, MN. A visitation will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Thursday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN and from 10-11 A.M. on Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN. Parish prayers will be at 6 P.M. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Frances M. Bartkowitz was born on June 20, 1937 in Swan River Township to the late Peter and Martha (Wozniak) Bartkowitz. On October 23, 1955 she married Joseph Yasgar in Sobieski. Joe passed away on September 21, 1972. On August 14, 1976 Frances married Lawrence Lashinski in Sobieski. Lawrence passed away on April 21, 2010. Frances was proud of her work at the Royalton School and Lincoln School in Little Falls. Her greatest joy was watching her beautiful flowers grow and bloom every year. Frances also loved to plant a huge garden and proudly sold her fruits, vegetables and flowers at the farmers market. She enjoyed having her family and friends over to her home to visit and
play cards. She was very proud of her Polish Heritage and loved to listen to old time music. Frances went to many garage sales, always seeking a good find and a great deal. She was a life long member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, MN. Frances is survived by her children; Mary Yasgar of Sobieski, MN, Ed Yasgar of Little Falls, MN, Rita (Doug) LeMieur of Sobieski, MN, Mike (Carmen) Yasgar of Bowlus, MN, Ronnie (Sue) Yasgar of Flensburg, MN; step-children, Alvina (Ron) Hourscht, Joan (Gene) Kapsner, Bernard (Lyann) Lashinski, Duane (Diane) Lashinski, Delmar (Mary) Lashinski, Nettie (Bob) Okroi and Renee (Emil) Oleson; grandchildren, Aleshia Crawford, Vanessa Lundgren, Darilyn Jackson, Natasha Yasgar, Christopher (Carie) Gilyard, Joe (Kaylee) Tuholsky; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Dave) Burton; brother-in-law, James Slattery of Sartell, MN, and sisters-inlaw, Janyce Bartkowitz of Backus, MN, Maxine Bartkowitz of Sobieski, MN, & Phyllis Yasgar of Sobieski, MN.
