Big Dance, big lessons -By Harvey Mackay I love sports and all the business lessons we learn from competition, whether playing or watching. It doesn’t matter what sport or what level, there are always multiple teaching moments.

The NCAA B a s k e t b a l l tournaments for men and women, also known as the Big Dance, are probably my favorite sporting events. I’ve had the privilege of attending numerous Final Fours as a long-time member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Governors.

After last year’s cancellations, it was exciting to see this year’s teams have an opportunity to showcase their talents.

It’s win or go home for these exceptional young athletes. The intensity is palpable, yet you can sense their joy and excitement in doing what they love. They are having fun.

It starts with preparation. I have written eight business books, three that hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list, and the title of each of them could have been “Prepare to Win.” Life is all about preparation, and preparation is all about hard work, sacrifice, discipline, organization, practicing the right concepts and more.

These athletes have a desire and determination to succeed. They love what they are doing, and it shows game in and game out

in their enthusiasm. There’s no question that the spark that ignites our lives is enthusiasm, and it’s the one critical trait that cannot be taught. Enthusiasm is about passion, gusto, excitement and infectious energy. Enthusiasm is crucial in every profession.

My good friend Brandon Steiner, CEO of CollectiblexChange and Athlete Direct, pointed out to me that the same coaches manage to advance deep in the NCAA tournament because they stay consistent.

Big goals require three things: a plan, a commitment to carry out that plan and consistency. Getting started is hard enough, but consistently carrying out your plan is more difficult. Even the best business plans will fail without a dedication to consistency.

These basketball athletes never, ever give up. They have confidence and a positive mental attitude. No matter what happens in business, life or sports, don’t quit.

Hustlers never quit. There are a number of attributes a person needs to succeed in life.

Two of them are outside our control – talent and luck. Hustle is a third component, and it can definitely be developed and cultivated.

Hustling is essential for anyone who wants to be successful.

Hustlers have intense, laser-like focus.

Hustlers don’t do things because they have to. They do things because they choose to.

They have self-determination. They embrace risk-taking. They believe taking no risks is the biggest risk. Hustlers love what they do.

They have grit. They love to practice and get better each day.

And speaking of hustling, I have an expression I use frequently when I am

speaking publicly. Little things mean a lot, not true. Little things mean everything. You can’t put a price on the people who are willing to get tough rebounds, loose balls, deflections and so on. It’s the same for business.

When you work or play with urgency and emotion, good things happen. Same with sticking together and working hard for each other. We saw examples of this in almost every game.

It’s possible to fight ferociously on the court and still have class and respect for your opponent. In fact, the harder you fight to win, the more people will respect you. Competition should bring out the best in you, not the worst.

The team with the best teamwork usually wins. For championship results you need to be a team player. You have to understand that sometimes you will be the star, and other times you will be part of the supporting cast. Every member of the team is important and contributes to the overall success of the project. Bring whatever talents you have and be grateful that others have different skill sets that complement each other.

As legendary college basketball coach John Wooden said, “A player who makes his team great is more valuable than a great player.”

A big part of winning is dreaming big.

I often joke that it takes years to become an overnight success. But it starts with a dream.

And dreams come true – with a lot of wideawake work.

Finally, the game is never over until the final buzzer sounds. Miracles can and do happen.

Mackay’s Moral: Getting to the Big Dance involves learning a lot of steps.

“The Good Old Days” -By Tom Kuehne A Whole Summer (1)

It was Springtime about 40 years ago.

Soon after ice-out that year, there had been a bog floating around on Swan Lake. This bog was larger than a football field.

It’s directional movement was controlled by the wind. If the wind was blowing from the southwest, the bog moved along the northeast shore and if it was moved from the northwest it followed the southeast shore.

The problem created by the bog movement, was that any docks or boats in it’s path were subject to either being blocked in, shifted or being placed underwater. After about a month, the residents along the northeast shore decided that something needed to be done to eliminate the problem.

Several meetings were held by the Park Terrace Association, an association on part of the lake. The DNR wasn’t able to financially or physically assist with the problem. So, one Saturday the bog was cut into 5 pieces, with the intention of moving the smaller bogs to an already bog infested location, staking it down and hopefully it would remain in the safer location. By the way, trying to control a bog by staking it down is similar to herding cats. It doesn’t work.

The bog was reduced in size primarily by an individual on water ski’s using a tool that we called a stack cutter back on the farm.

As the bog removal process began, an individual from the other side of the lake called to report the bog removal operation to the DNR. Soon there was DNR on the shoreline, in boats on the lake and also circling in a plane. We were threatened with arrest, jail time and multiple items of paperwork. Evidently at that time, the

bog was considered a natural occurrence, even though it was obvious where the bog originated and there were marks on it’s side showing where it had been cut loose. But worst of all, we didn’t have a permit.

The folks involved in the attempt to remove a hazard from the lake felt that there should at least not be harassment. A call was made to the state capitol on Monday, explaining our problem and as a result some DNR officials from Brainerd came to our neighborhood on Wednesday morning with free permits and offers of encouragement.

No money, but at least no more harassment.

It soon became obvious that we would need to raise some money, because even though we contributed our time and boats to move the bog, there was a need for some type of machine to remove the bog from the water and either place it on a shoreline, but also to possibly move the bog to some other location. A drag-line was hired to move the bog from water to land. Some of us contacted individuals that used the lake and requested a contribution to the cause. Between the Lake association and the contributions, $8,100.00 was collected.

The bog removal process required pushing the bog through the narrows and to the north end of the lake, where the dragline was located. This required a lot of time, since bogs are hard to move. The boats pushed the bog, since pulling causes the progress to be eliminated by the wash from the motor of the pulling boat. The best way seemed to be placing the bow of the boat on the bog and running the motor at a steady fast idle.

Arden D. Peterson

Arden D. Peterson, age 84 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, Minnesota.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 6 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Rebecca Thomas officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 7.

Arden Dale Peterson was born May 30, 1936 in Rugby, North Dakota to Aurin and Amanda (Aamodt) Peterson. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1957. Arden graduated from Minot State University in 1962 with a degree in accounting.

He was united in marriage to Annella Scheet on July 2, 1960 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby, North Dakota. He worked as an accountant at Control Data until his retirement.

Lawrence A. Trettel

Lawrence A. Trettel, 90 year old resident of the Royalton/Bowlus area, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Bowlus, MN with Father Joseph Herzing officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the church and from 9:30 A.M. until the hour of service on Saturday. A parish prayer service will be at 4:00 P.M. on Friday and the rosary will be led by the family at 5:00 P.M. Lawrence was born on January 8, 1931 in Swan River Township to the late Peter and Julia (Krystosek) Trettel. He attended School District 8 through the eighth grade, a straight-A student who did not miss a day. He left school to help his father on the family farm and worked at the Swift & Company meat packing plant in South St. Paul during the winter months. In December 1956, he purchased the farm from his parents. Lawrence was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Rita Zapzalka on June 3, 1957 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

He farmed full-time until his retirement in 1993 when he passed the farm down to his son, William and built a home on his son, Thomas’ land. He enjoyed helping Bill and Tom on their

for 27 years where Arden loved to spend time in the sun pontooning and working on his beautiful flower gardens. The couple was able to retire early and loved spending their winter months at South Padre Island.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre and the American Legion Post 67 in Sauk Centre. Arden ran many miles up and down Ash Street and the Lake Wobegon Trail in Sauk Centre. Arden was a tender-hearted man who enjoyed playing cards, especially 500, dice, flower gardening, and was the go-to man for helping at the association. He loved spending time with his family and will be truly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Annella Peterson of Sauk Centre; children, Mark (Terri) Peterson of Nashville, Tennessee, Marshall (Diane) Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska, Marlo (Denise) Peterson of Prior Lake, and Eric (Heather) Peterson of Grey Eagle; five grandchildren, Zee, Savanna, Hannah, Grace, and Ben; sister, Janice (Roger) Blessum of Prior Lake; sisters-in-law, Judy Peterson of Fargo, North Dakota and Priscilla Scheet of Beaverton, Oregon; brothers-in-law, Paul Tingstad of Golden Valley and Alcuin (Val) Scheet of Bismarck, North Dakota; and many loving relatives and friends.

Arden was preceded in death by his parents; Godson, Timothy Tingstad; brothers, Donald and Roger Peterson; sister, Beverly Ann Tingstad; father and mother-in-law, Nick and Barbara Scheet; and brother-in-law, Ken Scheet.

Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre. farms and giving them advice. He was “a jack of all trades.” He did electrician work as a side job, was a carpenter and handyman who could build and fix almost anything, made homemade sausage, and took charge in making the holiday turkey that was made to perfection. He also enjoyed hosting family and friends, telling funny stories, fishing, playing cards, listening to old-time music, and smoking fish and making pickled herring for family, friends, neighbors, and local priests. He had an excellent memory and excelled in math and spelling, even though he only had eight years of schooling. Lawrence was especially proud to be married to his “angel,” teaching his 13 children the “value of hard work,” and that the Trettel family farm was recognized as a Century Farm in 2019.

Lawrence was a member of Holy Cross Church in North Prairie for 69 years and then joined St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Bowlus. He also was a member of the Royalton Sportsman’s Club for many years and served on the District 1180 school board. He was devoted to saying the rosary daily and sharing his gifts and talents with others. His sense of humor will be missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kenneth of Little Falls, David (Janet) of Rice, Marvin (Rita) of Little Falls, John of Little Falls, Mark (Elizabeth Johnson) of Little Falls, William of Royalton, and Thomas of Royalton; daughters, Ann (Jerry) Kuklok of Rice, Susan (Steve) Sweeney of Sauk Rapids, Julie (Scott) Smith of Holdingford, Janet (Joe) Zachman of Holdingford, Marlys Trettel of Maple Grove, and Joyce (Rich) Zika of Sauk Rapids; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sisterin-law, Evelyn Trettel of Little Falls.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Rita (Feb 2020); parents, Peter and Julia; brothers, Joseph and George; sister, Agnes Burton.

Salli was a community volunteer and an active member of First Lutheran Church, the Literacy Foundation, and Friends of the Library.

She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and shared her lefse-making skills with family, friends, and community groups. Salli was an avid Sauk Centre High School sports fan and a regular attendee at football, basketball, and volleyball games. In addition, she ushered at the Paramount Center for the Arts in St. Cloud where she also enjoyed theatrical and musical productions. She traveled the United States extensively and visited relatives in Norway.

Her travel highlights included mission trips to Mexico and Africa. Salli played bridge and looked forward to dinner and movie nights with friends. She enjoyed reading, gardening, watching birds, walking, biking, and playing Cribbage. Mostly, she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Brown of Sauk Centre; Laurel (Tom) Oberg of Sauk Centre, Loni (Don) Kohorst of Sauk Centre, Lee Brown of St. Cloud, and Charles “Bill” (Tara) Brown of Lakewood, Colorado; four grandchildren, Nathan (Emily) Kohorst, Ted (Jen) Kohorst, and Ryan (Katie) Kohorst, and Leah (Travis) Diedrich; and many loving relatives and friends.

Salli was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Brown; parents; and sister, Carolyn Sather Hennes.

Aaron “Kro” Kroshus

and Kimberly (Boon) Kroshus. He graduated from Melrose High School. Aaron worked at Melrose Ag Center in Melrose, Bueckers City Sanitation in Melrose, and currently was working at Nature’s Best Ag Service in Albany.

Aaron had an interest in cars, enjoyed snowmobiling, and watching sports. He loved spending time with his friends playing corn hole, competing in Fantasy Football, and hanging out on the pontoon on the lake, but most of all, spending time with his son, Oliver.

Survivors include his son, Oliver Kroshus of Melrose; mother, Kimberly Boon of Sauk Centre; father, Kim Kroshus of Melrose; sister, Jessica Anderson of Coon Rapids; nephews and nieces, Carter, Dylan, Nicky, Jocelyn, and Carlee all of Coon Rapids; special friend, Laura Hagen; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Aaron was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Mary Lou Boon and Glen and Lola Kroshus.

Anita M. Steffen

She had a genuine love for people, especially family. She had an open-door policy sharing her home with anyone in need. She had a big heart and was an excellent listener who provided wise advice and a befitting Bible verse to help guide their way. Bonfires with nieces, nephews and friends were a highlight and something she looked forward to every summer.

Survivors include her parents, Larry and Carolyn of Long Prairie; two sisters Bonnie (William) Schleter of Arnold, MO and Becky Crider of Long Prairie; nieces Tiffany (Justin Loven) Magnuson of Randall, Amanda Magnuson, Ashley (Wade Lunser) Crider of Long Prairie and Hailey Schleter of Arnold MO; nephews Shane (Kailey) Crider of Long Prairie, Joshua Schleter of Arnold MO and great-nephew Kaden Magnuson.

She is preceded in death by her brother Brian Steffen and her grandparents.

Shirley (Salli) Mae Sather was born August 11, 1930 in Franklin, Minnesota to Ingnard and Gladys (Berg) Sather. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1948 and from Mankato State University in 1950 and August 1976. She married Charles Brown on August 8, 1953. From 1954 through 1957, they resided in Granite Falls, Japan, Wyoming, and Turtle Lake, North Dakota before settling in Sauk Centre in 1968.

Salli was a life-long learner and educator.

She taught primary grades for most of her career and retired after teaching 1st grade at Holy Family School in Sauk Centre. Upon retirement, she continued to substitute teach into her 80s. She was passionate about literacy and tutored children and adults, including Aaron M. “Kro” Kroshus, age 33 of Melrose, died after injuries sustained in a workrelated vehicle accident on Friday, April 2, 2021 in South Dakota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

Thursday, April 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. A private family interment will be Friday, April 9 at Calvary Cemetery in Morris, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Aaron Matthew Kroshus was born August 11, 1987 in Alexandria, Minnesota to Kim F u n e r a l services were held Tuesday April 6, 2021 at River of Life Church in Long Prairie for Anita Steffen who died on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at the Saint Cloud Hospital.

Pastor Kyle Peterson officiated and burial was in Trinity Cemetery in Long Prairie.

Anita was born November 8, 1982 in Browerville to Larry and Carolyn (Proell) Steffen. She grew up in Long Prairie where she graduated from High School.

She went on to complete her associates degree at Alexandria Technical School. Anita was very involved in the 4-H program. She won several awards showing her goats. Following her graduation, she remained active by volunteering for 4-H and by helping her nieces and nephews in their show of animals.

Anita will be dearly missed by employees at Coborn’s in Long Prairie where she worked as the Assistant Store Director and the many members of the community whose lives she impacted.

In high school Anita was an avid archer who maintained her skills by shooting in a 3-D archery league. She looked forward to deer hunting each year. She also enjoyed fishing.

She was active in the foreign exchange student program and hosted four students. What defined Anita though, was her love for Jesus and her strong involvement in the church.

Travis and Dacia Westbrock of Sauk Centre are proud to announce the birth of their son, Hudson Gregory Westbrock, born on March 16, 2021 at 6:52 p.m. at CentraCare Sauk Centre, delivered by Dr. Stepan.

Hudson weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 21 inches long.

In the three virtual preliminary meets, Upsala’s “Team Myra”, consisting of Anders Aleckson, Myra Arvig, Silas Arvig, Anna Blonigen, and Bennet Pundsack, earned one first place and two third place ribbons.

At the Region 5 regional meet on March 17, “Team Myra” earned fourth place, which qualifies them for the Knowledge Bowl State Tournament. They will compete virtually in the state tournament on April 9. “Team Myra” also earned second place at the Prairie Conference meet, held virtually on February 10. Swanville Senior High Student of the Month Swanville Public School is pleased to announce the February Senior High student of the month, senior Haden Chuba. He is the son of Michael and Tracy Chuba. Haden enjoys hunting, fishing, sports and spending time with family and friends. He plans to attend MN State Wadena for a career in electrical work.

Haden has stayed busy during his high school career, participating in baseball, basketball and football since seventh grade. He also participated in the newly formed Trap team his junior and senior year. He has been on the honor roll since his freshman year, has won Athlete of the Month numerous times, and was chosen as honorable mention all district for football as a junior and a senior.

Outside of school Haden has recently joined the Swanville Sportsman Club and plans to do

volunteer work with that organization. Haden’s favorite thing about school is spending time with friends. He advises other students to “enjoy high school while it’s here, because it’s over before you know it.”

Mathematics Instructor Liza Hasse says, “Haden has developed into a fine young man.

In previous years, I have had Haden in class. He has always been respectful towards me and has worked hard in class. I enjoy having conversations with Haden, he is level headed and has a good perspective on different situations. Haden is planning on pursuing a career as an electrician. I believe that he will be successful and I wish him the best of luck in the future.”

Arts instructor Kerry Osberg adds, “I have really enjoyed having Haden as a student over the past several years! He has always been curious and eager to try new things. As an artist, Haden takes great pride in doing his best work and he especially enjoys painting! Haden has a stellar personality and a great sense of humor. You can always count on him to lighten the mood and look for the positives! I will miss Haden a lot after he graduates, but I am certain that he will go on to do great things.”

Swanville Junior High Student of the Month

Swanville Public School is pleased to announce the February Junior High student of the month, eighth grade student Emma Kurowski. Emma is the daughter of Michelle and Frank Kurowski. She enjoys playing and watching sports, playing with her dog, hanging with friends and any outdoor activities. She plans on becoming a physical or occupational therapist. Emma plays softball, basketball and volleyball, participating since sixth grade to the present. She is currently a member of the student council. She participates in band and has done so since fourth grade. Emma is a student that is consistently on the A Honor Roll, and was also the 7-9 social studies student of the year last year. Emma’s favorite thing about school is that she loves making memories with her classmates and par-

ticipating in after school activities. Her advice to other students is “work hard, but more importantly have fun!”

Outside of school Emma participates in her church youth group.

Social Studies teacher Tom Bzdok says, “I really enjoy having Emma in class. She is the type of student who will always give you her best effort no matter what the situation is.

Emma is extremely mature with an upbeat personality and removes herself from any negative distractions around her. She is well liked by peers, as well as adults and has emerged as a leader amongst her classmates by setting positive examples to follow. She is very deserving of this recognition. Stearns Co. Sheriff’s Office

Crash: April 2, 2021: At approximately 9:07 p.m., received a report of a single vehicle crash at 33928 County Road 10 in Albany Township. The caller reported a vehicle in the ditch against a tree occupied by one male.

Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the lone occupant and driver of the truck, Brian Scott, 42, of Albany. Scott was very confused as to his whereabouts and it appeared he had suffered from a medical issue. He was transported to the hospital

by Melrose Ambulance.

Scott was driving south on County Road 10 when he entered the east ditch and struck a tree with the driver’s side front quarter panel of the truck. The truck then continued in the ditch, went over a driveway and drove for another 15 yards before coming to a rest against a tree.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Albany Fire and Rescue and Melrose Ambulance.

Grass Fire: April 3, 2021: At 12:41 p.m. received a call of a grass fire in the 20100 block of County Road 156 in Albany Township. The caller stated that the pasture behind the address was on fire and that it was moving quickly towards neighboring houses. Albany Fire Department and Avon Fire Department were dispatched to the scene to contain the fire.

It was determined that the homeowner, Kasy Jensen, 41, of Albany, had started the fire in a firepit while in the process of cooking maple syrup.

Due to the wind at the time of incident the neighboring field and swamp caught fire and she was unable to extinguish it with a water hose that she had nearby.

Albany Fire Department and Avon Fire Department were successful in containing and extinguishing the fire to prevent any damage to nearby homes. Jensen was issued a citation for burning during a burning ban.

ATV Crash: April 3, 2021: At approximately 8:41 p.m, received a call of an ATV crash with injuries at 42523 248th Avenue in Krain Township.

This address is located approximately 5 miles east of St. Rosa. The caller reported two occupants were trapped in the ATV with injuries.

Deputies arrived and learned the 2013 Polaris Ranger had an adult male and adult female on board when it crashed. They found the male driver, identified as James Hiltner, 64, Freeport, had been able to free himself from the side-by-side and was bleeding from the head. The female occupant identified as Jean Enowmbitang, 52, was pinned underneath the side-by-side. Hiltner had attempted to lift the ATV off of Enowmbitang with a skidloader.

Hiltner was transported by ground ambulance to the St. Cloud Hospital. Enowmbitang was transported by Life Link to the St. Cloud Hospital.

Driver impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Swanville City • March 2, 2021 PUBLIC HEARING: Mayor Lange called the Public Hearing to order at 6:30 p.m. Council members present: Sandy Lange, John Dragseth, Norm Carlson.

Jim Molitor and Tony Maciej. Also present: Clif Allen, reporter Tyler Ohmann, and Steve Gruber. The purpose of the public hearing is to inform the residents of the City of Swanville of the upcoming water system improvements. Mayor Lange then turned the hearing over to City Engineer Clif Allen. Allen explained the improvements and the cost estimates. The public hearing is also one of the requirements connected to receiving a grant application. After Allen finished his presentation, Mayor Lange closed the public hearing at 6:50 p.m.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting held in the Swanville Center on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. The meeting called to order 7:00 p.m. with the following members present: Sandy Lange, John Dragseth, Norm Carlson, Jim Molitor, and Tony Maciej. Also present: Clif Allen, Steve Gruber, Lonny Hutchins, and reporter Tyler Ohmann.

Minutes of the Swanville City Council meeting Tuesday, February 2, 2021 was reviewed. A motion was made by Jim Molitor to approve the minutes. Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The treasures report was given. A motion was made by Jim Molitor and seconded by Tony Maciej to approve the treasurer’s report. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

City engineer, Clif Allen, once again talked about the water tower and improvements. He explained the action items which include the application and cover which needs to be signed and is ready to be sent in for the $600,000.00 grant. John Dragseth made a motion to sign the grant application for Small Cities Development Grant (DEED). Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried. There was also discussion on redoing old water lines on 3rd, 4th and 6th streets, wells and the water storage tank.

Mayor Lange reported the $10,000.00 portion from SourceWell for Energy & Environment grant, which the Mayor applied for, was received. The city is waiting for Region 5’s matching portion.

Mayor Lange would like to possibly turn the old dentist office space in the Community Center into a city museum. Still in the planning stages, but a possible plan would be a self-guided tour and have the same hours as the library.

Reminder of the Local Board of Appeal and Equalization is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Swanville Center.

City maintenance worker, Lonny reported there was a water leak repaired by the city park fountain.

Lonny will hire someone to camera the sewer line at the Swanville Center, to see what is plugging the sewer line.

Resident Steve Gruber was present to report a safety concern about cars parking on 6th Street by his house. The street is narrow and with the number of cars parked on the street he feels it is a safety hazard for anyone walking or other cars driving on the street. Council member Maciej stated he will visit with the owner of the vehicles.

There was discussion on City wide clean-up day. It was decided that Saturday, May 15th would be a good day. The Clerk will check with LP Sanitation for roll offs and A & A Recycling, who handles the white goods and misc. items, if they are available on that date.

The following claims were presented for payment.

Members of the council were furnished with a listing.

Jim Molitor made a motion to approve the claims.

Norm Carlson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

The next regular monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.

There being no further business, a motion was made by Jim Molitor and seconded by Tony Maciej to adjourn. All members voted in favor, motion carried.

Meeting adjourned 7:55 p.m.

Some people are afraid of change.

Dear Motor Medics, My 2004 Tahoe leaks enough oil on the ground that I could start my own refinery. I have had it into my local shop, and they tell me its leaking from the rear main seal and the front seal and timing cover and oil pan and valve covers too. I think that is almost every seal. It also leaks transmission fluid from the front seal and transmission pan.

The Tahoe only has 110k miles on her and no rust and basically runs perfect but leaks.

I am thinking of replacing the engine to stop the leaks even at 7k dollars its much cheaper than another used vehicle. What are your thoughts.

-Joan in Cannon City, Colorado We can’t stand oil leaks on a good running vehicle but there is no need to jump at a new engine just yet. If it runs great give it a once over checking compression and leak down and if it passes you could pull it and the transmission and reseal everything much cheaper than replacing the engine.

While resealing, we suggest a new timing

chain, valve seals, and drives side valve cover as these are all high failure items.

If you can get the oil leaks to all stop you can turn this back into a vehicle that could possibly give you many more years of life from it saving you a lot of money vs. replacing the engine in a vehicle with fairly low mileage.

cannot afford to purchase another car at this time, so I need to do something to get better traction. I talked to one tire store who told me that I can buy the wide snow tires for over $200 each for the rear but they suggest all four and they say that they do not think it will do much good though. What can I do to help with the traction?
