Back a few years, JetBlue had a great opportunity to put out such a message to its employees in a way that embraced risk, admitted failure and kept a sense of humor According to a story in BusinessWeek titled “How failure breeds success,” JetBlue made a decision that seemed like it would have minimal impact on customer satisfaction. But the company was about to find out otherwise.

Eric Brinker, JetBlue Airways Corp’s director of brand management and customer experience, decided to change the in-flight snack mix that it served passengers. JetBlue had been trying to limit its in-flight snacks to reduce costs and to avoid complicating service on flights. Brinker had also heard that some of JetBlue’s customers had been asking for healthier snacks on flights.

So Brinker and his team replaced the Doritos-based Munchie Mix that it served in flight. Brinker thought the customers would welcome this move in response to their requests.

But something unexpected happened.

The junk-food junkies voiced their protest.

These guys wanted their Munchie Mix, says Brinker. He started to get letters from customers saying things like the Munchie Mix was the only reason they flew with JetBlue in the first place.

Brinker realized he had been wrong and was going to have to reverse his previous decision.

So on a fun-loving note Brinker launched his own “Save the Munchie Mix” campaign. “Some pinhead in marketing decided to get rid of the Munchie Mix!” he wrote. He asked employees to write poems and stories about why the snack Harvey Mackay continued to pg 3

It’s a lesson JetBlue employees aren’t likely to forget.

Humor can also help end arguments.

According to “Bartlett’s Book of Anecdotes”, Orson Welles, the wellknown film director, had a longstanding feud with production manager Jack Fier on the film, “The Lady from Shanghai.”

Welles had decided that a certain set in the movie needed repainting on a Saturday, in time for a shoot on the following Monday. When Welles approached Fier about the matter, the director was told that getting the set painted in such short order was impossible. Welles was determined, however, and over the weekend gathered a group of his friends who volunteered their painting services. The group broke into the studio’s paint department and repainted the set themselves, leaving a huge sign that read: “The only thing we have to fear is Fier himself.”

Monday brought a new set of issues, when the real set painters arrived and

found that the work had been done by non-union labor. They called a strike, and Fier was required to pay a large sum to each member to compensate for the work they lost. In retribution, Fier deducted the money from Welles’ fee and had his own sign painted that read: “All’s well that ends Welles.”

The two men, who had been bitter rivals, then called a truce and in time became good friends.

April is National Humor Month.

With that in mind, I think it would be a good idea to introduce a new category on formal performance reviews that says, “Can laugh at themselves.” I’ve always found a sense of humor to be an important skill. I am impressed by employees who can diffuse a difficult situation with a well-timed, respectful jest. I cheer for people who can admit their failings with good humor. I would be a gazillionaire if I could bottle the formula for helping people take themselves less seriously.

Obituaries Robert Louis “Bob” Ohmann

Robert Louis “Bob” Ohmann, age 84 of Albany, died Thursday, April 16, 2015.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 13 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany. Rev. Cletus Connors, O.S. B. officiated with Rev. Bradley Jenniges, O.S.B. concelebrating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.

Bob was born July 9, 1930 in Albany, Minnesota to Nick and Lucy (Dinndorf) Ohmann. He attended Holy Family School and graduated from Albany High School.

Bob served in the U.S. Air Force and then attended Minneapolis Business College. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Rohling in 1953 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church.

Dorothy passed away on January 7, 1991.

Dorothy A. Prevost

Dorothy A. Prevost, age 82 of Melrose, died Friday, April 10, 2015 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and Rev. Marvin Enneking and Rev. Ken Thielman officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.

Dorothy Ann Dickinson was born April 17, 1932 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Raymond and Mathilda (Heinz) Dickinson.

She married Russell Prevost on July 20, 1956 in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota and they later divorced. She worked at various occupations in Michigan and Florida before

He later married Irene Aleshire in 1992 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Bob owned and operated Ohmann Electric for many years. He had a special love for the outdoors including hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, and gardening.

Bob was a member and past Post Commander of the Albany American Legion and served on the Albany City Planning Commission. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Pierz Council #3628.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Ohmann of Albany; children, Joan (Michael) Krause of Sauk Rapids, Linda (Bruce) Richter of Kasota, Roger (Ann) Ohmann of Albany, Ronald (Ami) Ohmann of Albany, and Roy Ohmann of Eagan; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Jean) Ohmann, Gene (Virginia) Ohmann, and Joe (Lottie) Ohmann all of Albany; and sister, Mary Hancock of Hinesville, GA. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy; and brother, Donald.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Dorothy enjoyed search word, flower gardening, crocheting, knitting, and embroidery. She was well liked and loved by many. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her sisters, Donna Mae Frank and Betty Lou Dickinson, both of Melrose; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Virgil, Raymond, Elmer, Donald, Paul, Robert, and Jimmy Dickinson; sisters, Viola Stein, Irene Boldt, and Beatrice Ramacher.

Serving as casket bearers were Dale and Deb Hellermann, Keith and Kevin Frank, Phil and Denise Terwey. Cross bearer was Nancy Hieb and scripture bearer was Barry Hellermann.

F u n e r a l Service was held at 11 am, Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Joy Christian Center, St. Cloud for Marvel L. Payne, age 74, of Sauk Rapids, formerly of Burtrum, who passed away on Tuesday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Sauk Rapids.

Pastor Tim Lambert officiated and burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale.

Marvel Linnea Langmade was born April 11, 1940 in Burns Township, Anoka County, Minnesota, the daughter of Merle and Marie (Westlin) Langmade. She grew up in Burns Township and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1958. She married Roland Payne on November 7, 1959 in the Burns Free Church. They farmed in several areas including Elrosa, Annandale, and Eagle Bend. They later moved to Burtrum.

She worked as an activities aide at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls. In 2011, she moved to Sauk Rapids.

Marvel attended Brighter Days Family Church in Burtrum. She was a very hard worker, excellent gardener, baker, and cook, and kept a neat and well-kept home. She enjoyed watching TBN, taking long walks,

and spending time with her family. She was a woman of strong faith and a true “prayer warrior”. She was always there with a hug and often told her grandchildren that she loved them “piles & piles”.

Marvel is survived by her children, Todd (Kelly) Payne, Park Rapids; Shawn Payne, Swanville; and Heather (Mark) Vait, Foley; daughter-in-law, Anna Payne, Burtrum; grandchildren, Kylee, Cameron, Landon, Bailee, Samuel, Natalie, Damian, Chelsey, Christian, Dylan, Cullen, Brady, Alexander, Kaiden, and Skyler; great-grandchildren, Riley, Addison, and Jaxen; siblings, Loella (Bernie) Nass, Stillwater; Verona Loven, Coon Rapids; Janice (Chuck) Wefel, Minneapolis; Karen (Lawren) Ingalls, Elk River; Gary Langmade, Elk River; Linda (Owen) Davis, Minneapolis; Jerry (Eleanor) Langmade, Ramsey; Marv Langmade, Minnepolis.

Dear Dave, My husband and I are 28 years old. We’re completely debtfree, and we each have great jobs.

We don’t talk a lot about this kind of stuff, because we’ve found it causes other people to treat us differently.

We realize how incredibly blessed we have been, so we always try to give God the credit, save, tithe and give regularly, and not brag about these things. How would you recommend handling a situation like ours?

-Amanda Dear Amanda, When you start to win with money, build wealth and achieve some of your goals, you discover pretty quickly that there’s a very small group of people you can celebrate with. It sounds like you’ve discovered this already.

A lot of times there are friends, and even family members, you can’t celebrate with because it comes off as bragging — even if you’re just happy you’ve reached a milestone. So, you learn to keep lots of stuff private and not even share the good things. Still, if you have a nice car or a beautiful home, these things can indicate that you’re successful. Even if they’re a small percentage of your financial world, it will sometimes generate feelings of jealousy or envy in other people.

Jealousy is, “I want what you have.”

Envy is, “I don’t think I can have what you do, so I don’t want you to have it either.” These are two really evil spirits, and they’re loose in our country today like never before. Part of the price of making smart decisions, and being wise with your money, is that some people don’t understand when you win and don’t think it’s fair.

But the truth is that you guys have every right to enjoy the fruits of your labor. You’ve earned it. You’re generous, giving people, and you take care of your family so the rest of us don’t have to pay extra taxes to take care of them for you. That’s the truth about winning with

money. You guys are under no obligation to explain your income, net worth or the fact that you’re winning. And you’re not obligated to be ashamed of it either!

-Dave Dear Dave, I got a department store credit card, using my real age at the time, when I was 17. I ran up a debt of $150, and the balance has grown to over $350. This was 10 or 12 years ago, but a debt collection agency started calling again the other day wanting the money. Hasn’t the statute of limitations run out by now? What should I do?

-Elizabeth Dear Elizabeth, There is a statute of limitations, but there are a couple of other things to consider, too. First, the debt is not collectible because a minor alone cannot enter into a legally binding contract in any state. The second thing is they can screw up your credit report for a very long time, and it sounds like they’re in the process of doing that right now.

Here’s my advice. Call them and explain that they are past the statute of limitations, and that you are considering suing them. After that, remind them that you were a minor when someone approved you for the card, which means the store you signed up with can be sued as well.

However, since you did take stuff from the store, offer them the original $150 to settle the deal. Get it in writing that the account is settled in full by this amount, and don’t give them electronic access to your money. When you get the settlement offer in writing, keep a copy of the letter and a copy of the cashier’s check you’ll use as payment.

Pay it because you owe it, Elizabeth.

It’s a moral issue. And hopefully as a result you can get these kinds of people out of your life for good!

Scarred For Life -By Sheila Ripplinger Many people, perhaps most of us, have physical scars that remain as visual marks of a past injury, incident, accident, or surgery. Some may have emotional scars that are tucked away. Often there is a story behind our scars. Some may be quite small, and others may be extremely noticeable. I like to view them as reminders of a healing that took place. You can no longer feel the physical pain, but the memory forever remains in the scar.

Optimistically, scars can be looked at as a positive imprint that reminds us of what we have overcome. They can help us realize that God has a good plan for us as we remain under construction in this human life. The painful hammering of the tough stuff we experience can often leave permanent marks on us. Those scars can be from our own bad choices, or from someone else who has wounded us. Either way, once that wound has healed and become a scar, it can be used for good to tell your story that only you can share.

What matters above all else though, is how we appear before a Holy and Just God. He knows all that we have been through and He sees all of our deepest wounds and scars. He is the only one that has the perfect antidote no matter what type of pain and suffering we may

be experiencing. 1 Peter 2:24 says that Jesus carried our sorrows, was afflicted, pierced, crushed for our sins. By His wounds we are healed and forgiven.

We have no right to pass judgement on someone that we think has more obvious or severe scars than the next. No right to pick away at forgiven and healed over wounds! This happens when we slander and gossip about people’s past or present lives that we may not really even know the truth about.

When Jesus was resurrected, He showed His followers His nail scarred hands and the mark in His side. Reminders and proof of what He endured for us on the cross. His precious life saving blood that flowed is what heals and forgives!

Many people around us are living with the painful and ugly open wounds of hatred, anger, bitterness, guilt and shame.

They need to know that there is healing from those awful feelings that will fester and destroy them if not dealt with properly.

Only by trusting in Jesus can we declare with great victory, ‘I am scarred for life!’... Everlasting Life!

Upsala to Present “Footloose”

The Upsala Drama Club will be performing “Footloose” for their spring musical. The show is based on the 1984 movie of the same name. Ren (Paul Ripplinger) moves from Chicago to the small town of Bomont, where he can’t believe that dancing has been outlawed.

As he struggles to fit in, he tries to loosen up the conservative town with the help of his new friends Willard (Aidan Guthrie) and Ariel (Marie Benson). But Ariel’s father (Aaron Ripplinger), the local pastor, stands in the way.

Familiar songs include the title song, “Let’s Hear It For The Boy,” “Almost Paradise,” “Holding Out For A Hero,” and “I’m Free (Heaven Helps The Man).”

The cast of nearly 40 Upsala students will perform the show April 17-19 at the Upsala Auditorium. Friday and Saturday the curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday is a 2:00 p.m. matinee. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Pre-school is free.

Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers, Inspect Everything

By Joe Lang, Pelican Lake Association of St. Anna It all started with Stearns County Environmental services (Sue M) asking us to be on a committee to prepare a plan to distribute funds the State of Minnesota is giving to all the county’s to prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species.

The whole idea is to pass the dollars on to locate units of governments, lake associations and so forth to come up with a plan to keep Aquatic invasive out of our lakes rivers and streams. Once Stearns county commissioners approved the plan, we applied and will be receiving $500 towards our plan which is to help educate lake users about some of the ways to prevent Aquatic invasive like Zebra mussels from entering our public waters. One adult Zebra mussel can produce 1,000,000 off spring per year and they live up to seven years.

them to take over a lake.

One of the methods we came up with was bait buckets with a message.

We partnered up with The Store in St. Anna and purchased hundreds of bait containers and stickers to apply on the containers. The Message: Stop Aquatic Hitchhikes Inspect everything before launching and before leaving.

The containers will be given out at our annual fund raiser April 18 at the Landing in St. Anna to lake users as a constant reminder. Everything has to be cleaned: boat hull, motor, live wells, bilge, anchor, dock lines, rollers, trailer axle etc.

Minnesota residents are proud of our lakes we all need to keep them free from Aquatic invasive.

Also, at this time there is so much unrest and killing in the world because of racial tensions that seem to be growing, as well as from ISIS/terrorist groups throughout the world, and so the intentions will also include petitioning Our Lord for intercession in these concerns.

The ‘chapel story’ goes back to the grasshopper plague of the 1870’s and the faith that inspired the area residents to build a chapel. That faith still is strong today! It is always a joy to read about and hear some of the stories of faith that surrounded the building of the chapel, but it is also an experience to meet some of the visitors. As one works at the chapel, you meet many pilgrims who come to visit, some in thanksgiving for answers to their prayers, some out of love for the Blessed Mother, some for consolation, some to plead for help, some who simply enjoy the beauty around them, some because they grew up visiting the chapel and want to introduce it to a friend or family member of theirs, some to discern their vocation and of course for many other reasons. It is truly an experience to share in their faith, joy, sorrow. Many of them could teach us what faith is truly about!

Thought for Gas Tax, Pre-K Expansion, Buffer Zones Remain the week: Subjects of Discussion

Gov. Mark Dayton appears to be doubling down on his top priorities for this legislative session, namely an increase in the gas tax, an expansion of pre-kindergarten in our schools, and some form of buffer legislation.

The first two were his main initiatives during his State of the State message delivered to a joint session of the Legislature last week, while the buffer requirement was among several others mentioned that he wants completed during this session. There is general agreement that more funding is needed for transportation, but the disagreement comes from House Republicans who say they can come up with a spending plan that earmarks $7 billion to roads and bridges without raising the gas tax. Dayton’s plan would place a sales tax on the wholesale price of fuel, with approximately 16 cents being the additional base cost of the tax at today’s prices, in addition to annual adjustments based on the cost of fuel.

would be voluntary, but schools could lose other sources of funding if they decided not to go with pre-K. It reminds me of the all-day, every day kindergarten program that Minnesota just finished implementing, in that it started out with partial funding and then was ramped up to full funding for those students just entering school.

Moving the enrollment ladder down to 4-year-olds is good … for those who need it. We should be targeting this early initiative to those students who truly need it. But to roll it out statewide adds considerably to the cost and gives schools a whole new set of problems to solve.

Namely, do they have enough space to house these additional students? What about transportation of these youngsters and having enough staff, including certified teachers by the year 2020, to operate these additional classes? And how will this affect our traditional family day-care businesses if they lose their 4-year-olds to the public schools?

Nearly all school officials I visit with say the increase in their general education funding is not adequate under legislative proposals they have seen so far. State aid per student needs to increase enough to at least cover their basic costs from inflation.

They would rather see schools receive a larger increase in the formula per student and then be allowed to put those funds to the best uses as they see fit.

Another bill making its way through the committee process has to do with how those who own agricultural land are taxed for school capital projects. Under current law, all ag land is subject to a levy when capital building projects are financed. If this piece of legislation were to become law, state aid would cover one-half of those costs formerly assigned to ag land.

The estimated price tag for this change to both current and future capital referendums is around $48 million annually.

Governor Dayton’s buffer proposal, first offered as a 50 foot, one-size-fits-all plan, has not moved in the House. It was given an introductory hearing in the Environment Committee, but was not passed.

The governor has softened his stance somewhat and has also offered some level of compensation to landowners who would be affected, but nothing has been agreed to. It seems to me that this issue is too important to rush through, and should instead be sent to the Drainage Working Group for further study and a recommendation.

There seems to be an attitude of arrogance in the world today. It is summed up in the epigram that was written above the door of the saloon on the Titanic: “Not even God can sink this ship!”

Imagine the irony of those words. They are carved in a piece of wood that is still rotting after all of these years.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no fear of God in the world any longer. Today, the list of the world’s fears include a nuclear disaster, global warming, the national deficit, health care, a flu epidemic, identity theft or a stock market crash. It seems as though God has been assigned the role of being an ex-officio member of the “Board of Governors.” It is a “position” with no power or influence. He is no longer recognized as one who makes any difference in the day to day operation of the universe. He’s simply around to humor some people. Man is in charge now, thank you, and will bring good things to pass now that God is out of the way!

Psalm 34 takes the opposite view of God. The author blesses the Lord for what He has done. In deep humility he recognizes the power and presence of God. His view of the world is God-centered not man-exalting. Therefore, “His praise should always be on our lips.”

How different it is today. People seem to do what they do for the recognition they may receive. Glory and honor belong to the one who can score the most points, accumulate vast wealth or demonstrate great power over people.

God, to them is a “thing” in the past.

Friday, April 10, 2015: At 2053, TCSO received a call of a car deer accident that occurred on County Road 2 in Grey Eagle Twp, sect 22. Marisa George, rural Sauk Centre, was traveling westbound on County Road 2 when she struck a deer in the traffic lane.

Marisa was not injured and her 2015 Chevrolet Impala received minor damage to the front end.

The Morrison County Sheriffs Department’s K9 Rocky has received a ballistic vest thanks to a nationwide Groupon Event that has raised over $335,000.00.

The “Occasions” campaign for Groupon Grassroots to outfit police K9’s with bullet and stab protective vests ran February 15th through March 5th. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. was the nationwide non-profit organization and charity partner selected by Groupon Grassroots to participate. The online $10 donation suggested interested persons purchase a GROUPON (a tax deductible donation) through the secure website where all funds were allocated to purchase ballistic vests for our four-legged crime fighters who put their lives on the line for the community and their partner.

Senator Paul Gazleka and Representative Ron Kresha will be hosting public town hall forums to gather input from residents of Senate District 9 on Saturday, April 25 in Royalton, Pierz, Long Prairie, and Motley. As the 2015 legislative session comes to an end both bodies will be convening to discuss a host of important issues. It is very important to hear from residents of Senate District 9 about issues that are most important to them.

Call to Order: Ron Frericks called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Ron Frericks, Ray Bense, Mary Ann Primus & Mike Rohe.

Agenda Approval: A preliminary agenda was presented. Ron asked if there were any additions to the agenda. Ray made the motion to accept the agenda. Mike made the second. All in favor. Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes: The clerk provided copies of the March 2, 2015 minutes to the board. Mike made the motion to approve the minutes as written. Ray made the second, all in favor. Minutes approved.

Town Clerk’s Report: Clerk presented the claims list for March.

Claims list included 15 claims for a total of $24,724.97 this included the first half of the fire contract.

Ray made the motion to approve the claims; Mike made the second, Motion carried unanimously. Letters received included advertising for office supplies, playground equipment and a letter from the attorney for settlement court date on a property within Grey Eagle Township.

Todd County Officers Meeting is April 9th in Browerville and the Equalization meeting is on April 14 at the Township Hall.

Treasurer’s Report: Mary Ann Primus presented the treasurer’s report as follows: Beginning Balance as of March 1, 2015: $152,209.39; Checks cleared: 10, $3,966.57; Deposits including interest: $17,555.39; Balance as of March 31, 2015: $165,798.21; Outstanding Deposits: 0.00; Outstanding Checks: 0.00; Cash Available: $165,798.21; CD Balance: $122,896.47.

Ray made the motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Second by Mike. All in favor, Motion carried.

Road and Bridge Report: Ray did a check of all the culverts, the one on 130th E. needs to be repaired or removed, Ray also followed up a report of tires in roadway ditch, which he picked up and notified the sheriff’s office. He had a call again about 116th which the supervisors will look at when they do the spring road check. Road check date was set for April 25, 2015 starting at 9:00 am. Erv H. presented the dust control agreement. This year’s cost will be 74 cents per foot. The Township will again pay ½ the cost for any residents interested. The cost to residents will be 37 cents per foot. Some discussion on whether the Township will again apply product to certain test areas.

Motion was made by Mike and 2nd by Ray to accept the contract for magnesium chloride at 100 ft. x 18 ft. for $74.00. All in favor. Motion carried. Erv H. also presented the Gravel contract which was ap-

proved at $6.55 per yard, with a motion by Mike and second by Ray. All in favor, motion carried. Erv then presented the Blading contract at $82.50 per hour which also was slightly higher than last year. Ray made the motion to accept the Blading contract, Mike made the second.

All in favor, Motion carried.

Additional agenda items: The Township Short Course was reviewed. Not much new, some felt inaccurate as far as culverts. More record keeping suggestions for the clerk/treas. Ray reported on the weed meeting at Todd County, he said most of the weeds on the list were not in Minnesota and the one that was, is bittersweet. They also talked about a ditch program which Ray will check into.

DNR Offers Guidance for Turkey Hunters in Areas Near Avian Flu While avian influenza has not yet been found in wild turkeys, hunters are nonetheless reminded of ways to avoid potentially spreading the virus.

To date, highly-pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been found in Cottonwood, Kandiyohi, Lac Qui Parle, Lyon, Meeker, Nobles, Pope, Stearns and Watonwan counties. So far, it has only been confirmed in domestic turkey farms. Waterfowl are the natural reservoirs for the virus.

Wild turkeys are presumed to be susceptible to HPAI. Raptors are known to be susceptible. The virus presents a low risk to humans but it is important to avoid contact with sick birds.

“Turkey hunters can take steps to minimize the risk of spreading HPAI, and they can be excellent scouts in helping identify wild birds like Raptors or turkeys that could have been affected,” said Michelle Carstensen, wildlife health program supervisor with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The USDA makes the following recommendations for turkey hunters to protect themselves and their birds from avian influenza.

In the field: • Do not harvest or handle wild birds that are obviously sick or found dead.

• Dress your game birds in the field whenever possible.

• Use dedicated tools for cleaning game, whether in the field or at home.

Do not use those tools around your poultry or pet birds.

• Always wear rubber gloves when cleaning game.

• Double bag the internal organs and feathers. Tie the inner bag, and be sure to take off your rubber gloves and leave them in the outer bag before tying it closed. Place the bag in a trash can that poultry and pet birds cannot access. This trash can should also be secure against access by children, pets, or other animals.

• Wash hands with soap and water immediately after handling game. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol wipes.

• Wash all tools and work surfaces with soap and water. Then, disinfect them. Do not eat, drink, or smoke while cleaning game.

Extension Offers Food Safety Certification & Renewal Courses in Alexandria University of Minnesota Extension is offering two courses to help food service establishments meet the educational requirement for Certified Food Managers.

The initial certification course, called ServSafe®, will be offered on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Douglas County Extension Office in Alexandria.

The class will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with the test following at 4:30 p.m.

Participants must attend all day to be eligible to take the certification exam. This course includes information about safe food preparation, handling, sanitation and prevention of foodborne illnesses.

Registration is required by May 5.

Certified food managers need four hours of continuing education credits within three years of becoming certified. University of Minnesota Extension educators and University specialists developed this renewal course that meets

• If you clean a bird at home, keep a separate pair of shoes to wear only in your game cleaning area. If this is not possible, wear rubber footwear and clean/disinfect your shoes before entering or leaving the area.

• Wash all tools and work surfaces with soap and water. Then, disinfect them.

• Avoid cross-contamination. Keep uncooked game in a separate container, away from cooked or ready-to-eat foods.

• You should always cook game meat thoroughly; poultry should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit to kill disease organisms and parasites.

The risk to the public is very low, and there is no food safety concern, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
