Don’t get worked up about being overworked -By Harvey Mackay Because of a big project deadline, the employees had been asked to work double shifts for the next few days.

“That’s it, I’m going home,” one employee said to his colleague.

“But there are three more hours left in our shift,” the co-worker replied.

“Well, I’m exhausted now. Come to think of it, I’ll take tomorrow off, too. Watch this,” the worker said as he grabbed a lampshade and covered his head with it and stood atop a ladder in the center of the room.

The manager walked in, gasped, and said, “What on earth are you doing up there?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I’m a lightbulb,” the worker replied.

“Good grief,” the manager said. “You’ve worked so long you’ve gone mad. Come down from there, and then take the rest of the day off.

While you’re at it, take tomorrow off, too.”

The worker descended the ladder and began to walk away with the lampshade still on his head. His colleague decided to follow him out.

“Just where do you think you’re going?” asked the manager.

“I’m taking the rest of the day off, too,” the co-worker replied. “I can’t work in the dark.”

We’ve all felt overworked at some point in our lives. The 40-hour work week certainly isn’t standard in the United States. In fact, a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics chart indicates the average American works 44 hours a week.

A Gallup poll I found listed it as 47 hours a week.

Extra hours don’t necessarily translate to more productivity. In fact, you might even

feel overworked if you work less than 40 hours a week. Feeling overworked can lead to exhaustion, stress, anxiety, irritability, burnout, lack of sleep, poor health, absenteeism, turnover, workplace conflicts … and psychiatric problems like thinking you’re a light bulb.

I remember one time when I was making a speech, and I asked the audience for a show of hands if they felt overworked? Just about everyone raised their hand. WOW! I wasn’t expecting that.

Employers are finding that productivity is up among staff who are working remotely these days. That trend looks like it will continue into the foreseeable future, especially if it means that employees are more satisfied with their jobs and work schedules.

Regardless of location, all of us have occasionally felt overworked and overwhelmed. Busy times at work, big projects with short deadlines, unfilled positions that leave the company short-staffed – these are common reasons for extra pressure.

Getting more organized, adopting better time management practices and delegating small tasks to others are helpful strategies to combat burnout. Maybe a lot of bad habits have crept into your daily routine, such as visiting too much with co-workers, spending too much time on the Internet or doing personal tasks.

Stop procrastinating. Do the things you don’t want to do first thing in the morning. Plan ahead and have a set daily, weekly and monthly schedule of the projects you need to tackle.

Don’t be afraid to say no. Saying no is not the same as saying never. It’s an acknowledgement that you respect yourself as well as the person doing the asking. Believe me, it won’t stop them from asking again!

Is everything you do necessary or is some of it just busy work? Strive to become more productive. Set boundaries. Be respectful of others’ time, and they should be respectful of yours.

I realize not everyone can do all of these things all the time, and there will always be hectic days or weeks. But you can prepare for them and minimize their negative effects with the right attitude.

But let’s not ignore the possibility that you are in a position where your job truly is too much for any one person. Wearing many hats or juggling a ridiculous number of responsibilities with little or no support is beyond being overworked. If your situation demands that you produce the work of two or more people – unless you actually own the business – you need to get your resume updated. Being taken advantage of can take a serious toll on your mental and physical health.

Otherwise, you will be repeating this choice anonymous bit of sarcasm: “We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.”

Mackay’s Moral: The problem with work is that it is so daily.

step ladder, I set her on a rafter. She walked along the rafter until she found a satisfactory roosting spot and she sat down. I closed the door, shut off the light and left her to her rest.

The next morning, my wife opened the garage door so the chicken could get out and she refused to get off of the rafter because she was afraid to fly the 10 feet to the floor. I again took the step ladder and carried her down. She then ruffled her feathers and found a piece of carpet to rest on. She wouldn't be chased and seemed to think the garage was her new home.

I then drove to the neighbor to ask if he lost a chicken. He has goats and sheep, but no chickens. He came over to see the chicken and felt that he had an area that could be used as a chicken pen. He picked the chicken up and carried it to his place.

I haven't been to visit her in her new home, but I'm sure she has a lot of stories to tell me when we do get together.

I remember chickens as a group of mindless, dirty animals that needed to be fed and watered twice a day and as soon as the eggs were picked, you got out of the barn because it smelled of strong ammonia.

The only other chicken I was ever somewhat close to was a bantam rooster that thought he was king of the barnyard when he flew to your shoulder, flapped his wings and crowed when I went down to the machine shed. He always made certain he had a good grip, which left scratch marks on my shoulder.

Maybe I should study chicken and write another column?

I have never had a conversation with a chicken until recently. It wasn't planned on my part, but evidently it was part of the chicken's plan.

It was a beautiful, sunny late afternoon and our guests were preparing to go home. As we were saying our goodbyes in the driveway, a chicken walked across the driveway and began to attempt a conversation with us. Her chicken talk was hard to understand, but her actions made her wants known.

We live in an area where there are no chickens for over a mile, so how she came to our place is a mystery.

After the guests left, I began to talk to her in human talk and she carried on in chicken talk and followed me around the yard. I found her some cobs of sweet corn, but she didn't eat much, since the kernels were soft and she didn't like to continually wipe her beak on the ground to clean off the sticky stuff. She then followed me around the yard trying to explain why she had come there. I walked into our 2-car attached garage and she followed. She walked around the interior of the garage and in chicken talk, commented on everything she saw.

The sun was beginning to set and she evidently wanted a place to roost. She began walking around and tipping her head so she could see the rafters and was trying to figure out how to get up there. I felt I should help her, so I picked her up and with the help of a

I did an experiment the other day. Before I tell you what it was and the results, I need to give you the backstory. For weeks now, I have had a heavy heart. I am sure there are many in the same boat I am. Loved ones struggling, feelings of inadequacies, winter coming on, potential economic collapse, criticism, loss of job, separated from loved ones, price increases, and the list goes on and on. The suicide rate has more than doubled since last year which indicates lack of hope. We are in desperate times.

My experiment was to send others, my loved ones, encouraging words. Not much, just “hope your day is filled with joy and peace." I started with my siblings, three of them, and within one minute two of them responded with thanks for the encouraging words. I then sent the same message to my wife’s siblings. The same thing happened, with in one minute two of them responded with the same message.

So, I am wondering today, this week, and the months to come; could you be encouragers, to those you love and to those in your circle of friends? It does not take any time, and you will in turn be encouraged. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” The “Therefore” is there for a reason! The verses right before this one talks about

Todd D. Geertsema

Todd D. Geertsema, 57, of Burtrum, MN, passed away on September 20, 2021 from Huntington’s disease.

Todd is survived by his wife, Kimberly Geertsema, children Connor and Morgan Geertsema, and parents Tom and Margaret Geertsema.

There will be a celebration to honor his life on Saturday, October 16th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Todd and Kim’s home located at 4325 Acorn Rd. in Burtrum, MN 56318.

J o s e p h B. Blenker Jr. “Joe”, age 89 of Melrose, passed away peacefully We d n e s d a y, September 29, 2021, surrounded by his family at the Melrose Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, October 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Melrose. All are welcome to attend by meeting at Patton-Schad Funeral Home at 12:45 p.m. for a procession.

Joe was born June 11, 1932, in Holding Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph Sr. and Marie (Bussman) Blenker. On October 18, 1955, he married Marcella Zinniel at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Francis.

Joe worked at the Melrose Implement for over 47 years. Even after retirement, Joe was called upon by many to fix whatever mechanical problems they had. Everyone knew Joe and he was the people’s fix it guy. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering in his shed and volunteered at the Melrose Nursing Home for over five years.

Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose and Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council.

Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Marcy of Melrose; sister, Rose Hinnenkamp of Melrose; children, Roger (Mary) Blenker of Melrose, Carol (Don) Zirbes of Duluth, Mary (Jeff) Philippi of Deerwood, Linda (Ken) Unger of Sauk Centre, Karen (Arlan) Wolbeck of Swanville, Alice Henifin of St. Cloud, and Michael (Jacie) Blenker of Sauk Centre; daughter-in-law, Kathy (Ronald) Blenker of Freeport; and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Elmer Hinnenkamp; son-in-law, Kevin Henifin; sons, Ronnie Blenker and Eddie Blenker; and grandsons, Justin Zirbes and Joshua Zirbes.

Mary Mae E. Olson, age 94 of Sauk Centre, passed away with family by her side on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Woodcrest Assisted Living in Alexandria, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, October 4 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. A family inurnment will be held in St. Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.

Mary Mae Elizabeth Minette was born July 28, 1927 in Sauk Centre Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to George and Mary (Zenius) Minette.

She was united in marriage to Virden Olson on October 10, 1946 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple farmed all of their lives in Osakis and the Sauk Centre area. They retired from farming in 2005 and moved into town in Sauk Centre.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and the Christian Mothers.

Mary Mae loved playing cards, dancing with Virden, planting beautiful flowers, quilting with the Ladies Club group, and watching birds on the feeders. Mary Mae was a wonderful cook and baker; all that knew her knew that they were welcome at her table. She also enjoyed going to the kids’ sporting events. Mary Mae loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include her children, Bonnie (John) Nagel of Little Falls, Linda (Wayne) Thom of Swanville, Perry Olson of Long Prairie, Sandy (Larry) Thom of Melrose, Lonney (Charlie) Olson of Sauk Centre, Kim (Sherry) Olson of Sauk Centre, Lance Olson (Beth Carstens) of Sauk Centre, Shelly Rust of Belgrade, Patrice Koshiol of Paynesville, Marty (Heather) Olson of Little Sauk, and Shannon Olson (Nick Meyer) of Sauk Centre; 37 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernie Proell of Sauk Centre and Shirley Marthaler of Sauk Centre; sister-in-law, Myrtle Judes of Sauk Centre; and brother-in-law, Benny Nietfeld of Greenwald.

Mary Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Virden Olson on February 18, 2017; parents; sons, Todd Olson on June 21, 2017 and Joel “Jody” Olson on May 24, 2020; sisters, Millie Rieland, Leona Bromenshenkel, and Delphine Nietfeld; and brother, Bud Minette.

Alma T. Von Wahlde, age 90 of Sauk Centre, passed away from a breakthrough Covid 19 infection on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at the CentraCare Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Robert Harren officiating.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Alma Theresa Voller was born May 22, 1931 in Birchdale Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Anthony “Tony” and Bertha (Rademacher) Voller. She was united in marriage to Richard Von Wahlde on November 11, 1952 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Ward Springs. After marriage, the couple resided in the Twin Cities and Sauk Centre. In 1959, they returned to farm in Kandota Township, Todd County, Minnesota. Since 2008, Alma has resided in Sauk Centre.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Christian Mothers, and St. Margaret’s Mission Group. Alma enjoyed crocheting doilies, blankets, tablecloths, and table runners.

Survivors include her daughter, Gail (Chad Strunk) Von Wahlde of Plymouth; granddaughter, Jacqueline Strunk; sister and brothers, Erma Ahrens of Osakis, Virgil Voller of Newport, and John (Joan) Voller of Rio Rico, Arizona; sister-inlaw, Joan Voller of Sauk Centre; and brother-inlaw, Elmer Von Wahlde of Sauk Centre.

Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Von Wahlde on July 16, 2010; parents; brother and sisters, Jerome Voller, Clara Pundsack, and Rita Kalawski.

Jeremy Lee Phillips (The Frog), 59, of Upsala, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021.

Jeremy was born on October 8, 1961 to Bill Phillips and Dicie Duckworth.

He attended school at Parkersburg South High in West Virginia.

Following high school, he was in the US Air Force from 1979-1986 serving our country. During his time serving, he moved to Colorado, where he met Cindy. Jeremy and Cindy then moved back to Minnesota, where they were married in 1991, and became entrepreneurs together. He owned several bars, restaurants and was dedicated to serving his patrons and community. In his spare time, he loved golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Phillips; daughter, Jennifer Merritt, son, Jeremy Phillips, daughter, Natalie Mann (Chris), daughter, Hannah Phillips (Erin), daughter, Lauren Phillips (Josh). His father Bill Phillips; mother, Dicie Duckworth, and brother, Jesse Phillips (Tonya). He was also loved by his grandchildren, Keagan, Addison, Emmitt, Ella, Ellie, Elliott, Calvin, and Roman.

A private family burial will be held in November at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, Minnesota.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Mary Ann “Maryann” Steil

Mary Ann “Maryann” Steil, age 58 of Melrose, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at her home in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.

Monday, October 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Mary Ann Steil was born on April 24, 1963, in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was committed to State Guardianship on May 13, 1963. She grew up in St. Cloud and spent time as a child living with Jean Marsolek and her family in their St. Cloud foster home. Maryann then lived in REM in St. Cloud before moving to Melrose in February of 1997 to Quality Care Homes where she lived with the same housemates until her death. She started working at Wacosa in Waite Park in 1984 and then transferred to Wacosa in Sauk Center in 1997 until her retirement.

Maryann was a member of Sauk CentreMelrose Golden Eagles. She loved going to dances, Special Olympics, bowling and track and field.

Going out to eat at McDonald’s for a cheeseburger, French fries and a diet coke was a favorite pastime, along with having her nails done. She also loved watching the Three Stooges, I Dream of Jeannie and Bewitched.

Survivors include her “family” at Quality Care Homes; her housemates of over 20 years, Mark Welle, Jim Klein, and Steven Krick; caregivers, Michael and Karen Zirbes and family, Dave and Tonia Pyka and family, Kevin and Sarah Athmann and family, Denise Mikkelson; and many other friends at Special Olympics and Wacosa.

Preceded in death by many caregivers and friends.

Serving as casket bearers will be Dave Pyka, Kevin Athmann, Michael Zirbes, and Ron Butkowski. Cross bearer will be Daniella Pyka and scripture bearer will be Kylie Athmann. Pall bearers will be Denise Mikkelson and Peyton Athmann.

Readers will be Kylie Athmann and Sarah Athmann.

Gift bearers will be Terry Butkowski and Brianna Pyka. The eulogy will be read by Tonia Pyka.

Brian Roger Nelson

A gathering to celebrate the life of Brian R. Nelson, age 56 of Holdingford will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 7 at the MillerCarlin Funeral Home in Holdingford.

Family and friends may gather after 10 AM at the Funeral Home. Brian died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday.

Brian was born November 17, 1964 in Wadena to Herbert and Helen (Hermanson) Nelson. He married Laurie Chihos on May 18, 1985 in Browerville. The couple moved to Holdingford in 2003. Brian worked in the parts and service department for Miller Marine in St. Cloud.

Brian loved to joke with everyone, if he was picking on you that meant he liked you. He must have liked most everyone, especially his family.

The hunting land was one of his favorite places to be. He enjoyed meeting up with his brothers and bringing along his children for the deer hunting season. Every vehicle was a Ford and every tractor was red. Always. To earn his “Mr. Wonderful” title he was always willing to help out others with various projects, working on boats and cars were his specialties. To end a good weekend he enjoyed falling asleep in front of the TV before he could see the Vikings lose. He will be greatly missed by all.

Brian is survived by his wife, Laurie Nelson, Holdingford; his children; Kelsey (Matthew) Longendyke, Sartell; Kasandra Nelson, Winona; and Kody Nelson, South Bend, IN. He is also survived by his grandson, Bjorn Longendyke, and his brothers and sisters, Linda (Dale) Aaberg, Victoria; Kathy Belka, Fergus Falls; Mary (Roger) Spolarich, Crosby; David (Barbara) Nelson, Clitherall and Ronald Nelson, Motley.

-Damon Dear Damon, I’ve walked with thousands of families through financial problems.

Some of them were just speedbumps that needed to be smoothed out, while others seemed like mountains. The biggest factor I’ve noticed separating those who stick with it and gain control of their finances, from those who give up and go back to their old ways, can be boiled down to one simple word—hope.

Hope is stolen when we misunderstand failure and believe lies. One of the biggest lies that robs people of hope is the one that says failure is permanent. The moment we start seeing failures of the past as predictors of our futures, it extinguishes that ember of hope. Failure happens to all of us at times. It’s natural, and it is normal.

The way to reach your goals, though, is to keep failure in its cage. And failure is caged when we begin to understand it isn’t permanent.

Winston Churchill once said, “Success is going from failure to failure without loss of

enthusiasm.” If we believe failure is here to stay, we lose enthusiasm. And that leads to an inability to re-focus on success. People often make dumb, short-term decisions when they’re in financial difficulty. If you talk yourself into believing you’ll never be able to save enough money to pay cash for a car, you’ll lose hope and borrow the money. Debt not only robs you of the ability to build wealth, but it’s also usually the result of losing hope.

Have you done something stupid or wrong in the past that you are still reliving daily? Is that memory haunting you, and stealing your hope?

Remember, the past only has power over you if you let it have that power. Don’t get me wrong.

The past can hurt, and it can be disappointing. But you can either give in to it and let it control you, or you can learn from it and make a conscious decision to keep moving forward.

The choice is yours!

Dear Motor Medics, I’m having a problem with my lights on my 2000 Ford Taurus. Both the front and rear lights have water in them. The rear looks like a bathroom mirror after a hot shower on both sides and the front has water collected towards the bottom of the driver side headlight. When the weather is dry for long periods they will clear up, but if I wash the car or it rains once they fog right back up. The bulbs themselves seem to be working ok and this has gone on for a couple of years. What can I do to fix this? I just don’t like the way it looks.

-Doug in Clarksville ,Tennessee Dear Doug, Many vehicles have this issue. The moisture comes from the seal around the plastic lens leaking where it’s bonded to the inside light reflector housing. During hot sunny days the heat generated by the sun will break down the seal and moisture will occur. In some cases, the lens will separate completely from the reflector. We have seen people try many things to repair their existing lights but usually the most effective fix is to replace the assembly. Check several places for the best deal.

Auto recycling facilities, the dealer, and auto parts stores usually carry the assemblies. Once you find a good light at a reasonable cost, you could possibly install them yourself. You will want to have the front aimed by a professional though.

-Take care, the Motor Medics Dear Motor Medics, I have a 2001 Ford F150 and I would like to know more about using synthetic oils in order to extend the life of the truck and increase fuel mileage. Am I on the right track here? Can I expect to see a big increase in mileage if I switch to all synthetics and is there a risk that I might damage something by switching now after 150,000 miles using regular oils? I have changed the fluids according to the manuals severe service ratings on time ever since I purchased the truck new.

-Mark in Fargo, North Dakota Dear Mark, You can switch all the fluids over to synthetics but don’t expect a huge gain in mileage.

If you have all conventional oils now and were to change everything in the drivetrain over, you may see a slight increase in the highway mileage, and you will help extend the life of any parts that are not already worn severely. The oil itself should not hurt your vehicle but you must stick with the factory approved

Upsala City • September 7, 2021 Call to Order/Attendance: The City Council meeting was called to order at Upsala City Hall by Mayor Rollie Johnson at 7:00 P.M. The pledge of allegiance was said.

On roll call members present were Mayor Rollie Johnson, Lana Bartells, Brian Lange, and Mitch Lange. Absent was Crystal Benson.

Staff present: First Response Vice President Andrea Douvier, First Response President Garrett Doucette, Planning & Zoning Commission Chair Don Marty, and City Clerk-Treasurer Michelle Stevens.

Minutes: Brian Lange moved to approve minutes from August 2, 2021, City Council Meeting, 2nd by Bartells. Motion carried unanimously.

Added agenda items: Bartells moved to approve the agenda as presented, 2nd by Mitch Lange. Motion carried unanimously.

Presentation, Citizen Appeals: Long Prairie Sanitation will take over Monday, October 4: Long Prairie Sanitation owner Terry Lanoue requested changes to the garbage and recycling dates. September 24 will be the last day for recycling on Fridays and September 29 will be the last day for garbage pickup on Wednesdays.

The new schedule will be Mondays for garbage and recycling pickup. Garbage will be every Monday starting October 4; recycling will be every other Monday starting October 11.

Long Prairie Sanitation will be replacing the recycling bins with co-mingling recycling carts.

City Wide Business Trick-or-Treat: Garrett Doucette discussed the Trunk-or-Treat that was offered last year due to COVID. This year he is requesting a business Trick-or-Treat. The Council directed staff to move forward with the idea. Since Halloween falls on a Sunday, the Council decided to have the event be held on October 29 from 3:30 to 6:00 pm.

Sand Volleyball: Garrett Doucette explained about the open gym volleyball in town. He suggested putting in a sand volleyball court by the rec building or in the city park. Estimated cost for one court would be approximately $2,000.00. The Council directed staff to investigate a location.

Department Reports: Fire Department Report: Brian Lange informed the Council on the Fire Department events for Heritage Days. September 11 is the hog roast and raffle at Bullfrogs.

First Response Team: Douvier updated the Council on the First Response Team calls. They will be hosting their annual Open House on October 3.

Maintenance Report: Tschida handed in his report on water and sewer levels as well as the various tasks done throughout the City.

City Office Report: Stevens reviewed the calendar and updated the Council on the month’s events.

She reminded the Council of the Budget meeting that will follow this meeting as well as explained that the Deadline for the Preliminary Budget to the County is due by the end of the month. She also talked about the billing snafu that happened with the new software program and how staff fixed it.

Planning & Zoning Commission: Marty reported on the Planning Commission’s meetings. He also discussed the Walnut Avenue extension past the townhomes including an intersection to connect to Hillcrest in the future.

Public Hearing – 120 Basswood: At 7:32 Mayor Rollie Johnson recessed the regular city council meeting and opened the public hearing to review the Conditional Use Permit for 120 Basswood’s Airbnb.

Planning & Zoning Chair reviewed the issue that the addition of the teepee as a rental unit at 120 Basswood Ave violates the current Conditional Use Permit.

October 3, 2021: At approximately 4:48 pm received a report of an ATV accident with injuries at the intersection of 300th Avenue and 143rd Street in Pierz Township, east of Pierz, MN. 44-year-old Christopher Wenderski of Burtrum, MN was driving a side-by-side ATV with passenger, 36-year-old Lacosta Miller of Albany, MN. The ATV was traveling westbound on the Soo Line Trail and when it entered the intersection Wenderski lost control. The ATV rolled onto its side and pinned the passenger’s hand underneath. Lacosta was airlifted by Life Link III and transported to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN, where she is listed in stable condition.

Wenderski was not injured.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Pierz First Response Team, Pierz Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and Life Link III.

Jill Zasadny and Joan Wingert explained that the proceeds from the teepee would be donated to a program to help with the issue of sex trafficking of indigenous girls.

Mayor Rollie Johnson re-opened the regular council meeting.

After a lengthy discussion Brian Lange moved to rescind the current CUP that was issued in 2018 for 120 Basswood Avenue and issue a new CUP recommended by the Planning & Zoning which – in part - states that the teepee cannot be used as overnight accommodations, 2nd by Bartells. Motion carried unanimously.

Unfinished Business: Heritage Days Meeting: Bartells reported to the council that Heritage Days was a huge success. They are already starting to plan for next year.

Upsala Senior Living TIF Plan – Jason Murray: The City’s financial advisor Jason Murray with David Drowns office discussed how Tax Increment Financing works, and reviewed the TIF Plan for Upsala Senior Living.

The Council gave Murray the go ahead to approach the developer and negotiate the terms of the Tax Increment Assistance.

New Business: T-Moblie Grant: Council directed staff to apply for the T-Mobile Grant to improve City Hall or the City Park pending on the grant execution timelines.

Morrison County Hazardous Mitigation Plan: The County Sheriff’s Office is looking for input for their Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Raffle Permit: Brian Lange moved to approve the Raffle Permit requested by Upsala EMS to be held on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at the Fire Hall with no waiting period, 2nd by Bartells. Motion carried unanimously.

LMC Fall Forum: The Regional Fall Forum will be held in Royalton October 20 from 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Mayor Rollie encouraged everyone to attend.

Acknowledgements: Congratulations to the Upsala Division 2 Junior Legion Team taking 2nd place at the state tournament!

An appreciation to everyone in our community who helped clean up after the big storm! Everyone’s help made our city look beautiful in short order.

Appreciation to Mike and Frank for putting in extra hours and making sure the water tower and the lift stations stayed functioning during the extended power outage.
