PUBLISHER’S LETTER In a year that has challenged us personally and professionally, it is incredible to be able to take a moment to appreciate the hard work and talent of all the local professionals that continue to make Southwest Florida a better place to live and work. Despite the pandemic, our real estate market is thriving. There’s more demand than supply with unprecedented growth reshaping the region, bringing in more people, development, and opportunities. One of our community’s most exciting developments is the recent expansion of our local Ronald McDonald House, providing more opportunity for families to experience a “home away from home” while their children undergo medical treatment. Our team is proud to showcase the ten new spaces created by the generous local design professionals who participated in Project Design 2020 with the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of SWFL. This issue reflects the collaborative efforts of our industry’s finest, who have proven to be as skilled at adapting to changes as they are at their trades. Our features showcase local REALTORS® shifting gears from inperson showings to making sales via video conference, interior designers elevating spaces for discerning homeowners and buyers who are looking for move-in ready properties, and architects designing multigenerational and quarantine-friendly homes with reputable and experienced builders. We hope you enjoy this collection of homes as much as we do.

MULTIGENERATIONAL MASTERPIECE

52

Situated on a corner lot with an overall footprint of 12,000 square feet, this “new style of estate boasts two unique homes and was designed to accommodate a multigenerational family. homeanddesign.net

MAIN HOUSE

Above: Directly off the main house’s kitchen and dining rooms, the family room was designed with large gatherings in mind. The oversized sectional seats ten, and the entertainment wall, designed by McDaniel and built by McGarvey Custom Homes’ cabinetry division Southlinks Custom Cabinetry, is complete with two televisions — perfect for watching multiple sports games at once. Keeping in mind they have a lot of small children in the family, McDaniel and Burch selected a custom 60” upholstered cocktail ottoman. “We took the top and sunk it down so that the upholstery comes up over the edge. There are no sharp edges for little ones to hit their head or knees on when they’re learning to walk!” says McDaniel.

Remarkable things often result from pushing the envelope, thinking outside the box, and focusing on how to innovate. In this case, a well-acquainted group of luxury home professionals did just that, resulting in a groundbreaking style of home that will surely be mimicked and remembered for its unique archetype. “We wanted it to be like opening a new book. It’s a new era, and we wanted a new style of house,” says John McGarvey, founder of McGarvey Custom Homes. The vision behind his new home in Naples’ coveted Pine Ridge Estates neighborhood was purposely designed to be a “multigenerational-style” residence. The McGarvey team, led by John, his wife Joanne, and their daughter Jennifer McGarvey Burch, approached this project like they do with any other private residence or model home. They assembled their team and began collaborating on the design, bringing in residential designer Rich Guzman of R.G. Designs, founder and principal Faith Fix and lead interior designer Arlynn McDaniel of Freestyle Interiors, and landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design. Not only was this a personal project for the McGarvey-Burch family, but it was also very special to Guzman, McDaniel, and Andrea, who have been collaborating with the McGarvey Custom Homes team for nearly two decades. u

Below: The McGarveys had enjoyed a fish tank at one of their previous residences and decided to incorporate one into their new home. To eliminate the noise that accompanies a typical fish tank, they piped the equipment outside so the tank itself is very tranquil. Everyone enjoys it, especially the Burches young daughter, “She asks for new fish every week,” Burch says with a chuckle.

Working with a palette of primarily black and white, McDaniel searches for opportunities to add anything that “pops” — something McGarvey notoriously pushes for in all of his projects. For the main home’s kitchen, they chose the spectacular Bentley “zebra” quartz. The veining softens the numerous linear and geometric elements such as the light fixtures from Lighting First and “floating” ceiling details. The Burches settled on a navy-blue accent color, which adds dimension on the counter stools and dining chair backs from Freestyle Interiors.

exclaims McGarvey. “Other times, we emphasized it to another level. Sometimes we disagree, but there is nothing wrong with that!” he continues as he recalls the importance of building a team that isn’t composed of “yes men.”

“We definitely wanted it to have two separate visions of what the ‘house’ would be,” explains McGarvey, although the team unanimously agrees that both visions work well together architecturally. After searching for over a year, they secured a unique lot that provided

Since then, they have partnered together on countless private residences, models, and projects. “When he approached me about the concept, I kept an open mind,” says Guzman, recalling when McGarvey first mentioned he wanted to build a home for him and his daughter, “But I knew I would have to design it differently, so that it would be acceptable to him and his tastes.”

The estate is composed of two residences: a 4,663-square-foot “main” house, where Burch and her family reside, and a 3,024-square-foot “guest” house, where John and Joanne McGarvey live. Each house has its own driveway, entrance, and outdoor living areas, yet both structures complement each other and may appear to be “one” at a quick glance. u

MAIN HOUSE “You could have strangers living in both houses and never know there is a neighbor,” says principal landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design, who designed each of the home’s landscapes and outdoor living areas. “They each had their own landscape approach, and we did our best to respect and deliver each of their goals and objectives with the planting design.”

With the touch of a button, motorized retractable screens from Castle Services of SWFL descend around the covered lanai and protect the outdoor living and kitchen from pesky bugs. Although it is smaller than the main house’s pool, it complements the “guest” house’s sight lines and can be seen from both the main living and master suite.

GUEST HOUSE

“The sofas and turquoise chairs in the guest house living room were actually the first selections we made,” explains McDaniel, noting that she and Joanne based the home’s entire color palette off of these shades of turquoise and cream. Above, cupola windows result in “really great beams of light that will vary, depending on the time of year,” according to Guzman. This was paramount to McGarvey, who desires an abundance of natural light in his home. homeanddesign.net

McGarvey had seen concepts of kitchens with no cabinetry hardware or “pulls” before, but nothing he found was exactly right for him. “We recessed the hand pulls into the cabinetry, which was very tricky. I drove the cabinet shop crazy for months,” admits McGarvey when talking about designing his own kitchen. Rather than settling for a push-to-open style, each door and drawer has a knife-like edge to grab hold of and open. Above the kitchen island and breakfast nook, dazzling pendants and an airy arrangement from Lighting First illuminate the McGarvey’s completely custom kitchen.

GUEST HOUSE

Above: To achieve a welcoming and warm yet sleek and contemporary look in the guest house master suite, McDaniel selects a mixture of linear and curved decor. The rectangular white lacquer nightstands from Freestyle Interiors are topped with spherical-based lamps from Lighting First, and the impressive headboard with both vertical and horizontal channels is balanced by the soft curve on the button-tufted chaise lounge.

Although many elements of this project were centered around maintaining two separate yet complementary visions, a main purpose of the homes’ design was to encourage togetherness. Several of the McGarveys’ immediate family members live locally, and they’ve always loved to entertain. “Usually, we would host the holidays and big family dinners because John loves to cook,” says Joanne McGarvey, “But now as we’re getting older and live here, we’ve passed the baton to Jen, who as you can see has a huge dining room to accommodate the big family meals!” Luckily for them, that dining room isn’t more than a few steps from John and Joanne’s own kitchen. Ironically, a welcomed by-product of the project’s distinct design was how it proved to serve the two families during a time of social distancing. “It wasn’t the original intention,” Guzman admits, “But when you look at what people want for their future, we’re going to see a lot more of a multigenerational design in our homes.” Having their own spaces, neither the McGarveys nor the Burches have to worry about jeopardizing their health and safety, yet they are able to stay connected and support one another as needed. “As much as John likes to move around, buy different homes, and design them for himself,” Guzman concludes, “I think this is the home he’s going to stay in.” n

Above: Linear features are more prominent in the guest master bath, softened only by the hourglass-like pendants from Lighting First suspended above both his and her vanities. Maintaining a simple palette of cream, turquoise, and taupe, the en suite is the perfect space to relax and unwind after a busy day.

Left: “Because it’s a sprawling, open-layout style home, there’s so much interest in multiple areas,” Guzman says, “It seems to go on and on forever.” Andrea designed the driveway for the main house to reflect Guzman’s “straight-line” architectural plan. “The entire driveway is actually a French drain,” explains Andrea. Grapple border strips between the giant slabs of concrete allow water to percolate down to be stored beneath. “I think there’s a lot of opportunity for driveways to serve more of an active role with water management. We’ve done this a couple of times and we definitely liked this approach,” he concludes.

Below: Andrea knew the main house’s outdoor living would act as a common area for both families. “We went with a popular style pool design — long, axial views with strong symmetry,” says Andrea. With multiple areas to enjoy, he and the Architectural Land Design team connected each space with steppingstone pods that create a neat transition from the concrete to the landscape. “We created a focal point feature with the trellis and fire pit area,” notes Andrea. The trellis complements the clean architecture of the home’s roof against the skyline and is visible from both the main and guest house.

Inspired by a once-in-a-lifetime Port Royal homesite, London Bay Homes collaborated with architect Jon Kukk to create a timeless, traditional-scale home that marries transitional detail and contemporary flair. Taking its cue from the home’s positioning, Architectural Land Design introduced a turn-in to create a moment of discovery upon entering the drive. Southern exposure dictated design aspects of the two-story plan, while glass maximized in each room welcomes light and capitalizes on the commanding water views. Repetition of select elements – including articulated, wrapped corner windows and dark-trimmed windows and doors – provide both continuity and drama throughout the home.

N

Nestled at the southern end of Naples, the neighborhood of Port Royal is steeped in a tradition of enduring elegance. Through its serene, winding streets, past its lushly landscaped estate homes, a newly completed London Bay Homes-led collaboration at 700 Admiralty Parade West seamlessly assumes its place among the streetscape, striking a sophisticated balance of simultaneously fitting in, yet standing out. Situated on a once-in-a-lifetime homesite with commanding wide water views across Admiralty Bay to Keewaydin Island, the 7,640-square-foot, two-story estate home offers a design as timeless as the renowned enclave in which it stands. Maximizing its idyllic location, glass is introduced in rooms to welcome light and capitalize on the commanding water views. A judicious selection of repeated elements — including articulated corner windows and dark-trimmed windows and doors — provide both continuity and drama throughout the home. The design creates a dramatic interplay between equally stylish interiors and outdoor living areas, marrying transitional detail and contemporary flair in a traditional-scale custom estate home. u

Previous Spread: Wide expanses of iron-trimmed glass by Andersen Windows & Doors capitalize on the views and impart a visual rhythm that creates an interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces. Pivot doors from the dining room and a lift-and-slide pocket door from the great room offer a seamless transition to the outdoor living area. Italian porcelain floor tiles on an integrated pedestal drainage system designed by Architectural Land Design allow the entire pool deck to be on one level with the outdoor living space, without drains or sloping. Principal landscape architect Christian Andrea explains, “The vanishing edge connects the pool to the bay, bringing the water views to the foreground.” homeanddesign.net

The spirit of this luxury estate lies in a blend of beauty and livability. A natural flow in the home presents five bedrooms and five full baths, including a master suite and a grand VIP suite both offering private outdoor access, two half baths and laundry rooms, a multifunction second floor bonus room, and a flexible outdoor living space, pool, and spa with majestic panoramic views. While London Bay Homes conceived and constructed 700 Admiralty Parade West over a three-year period, there is no question its design feels particularly prescient today. “The functional aesthetics of the spaces where we spend our time are more important now than ever before,” says London Bay Homes President and CEO Mark Wilson. “This grand home offers easily personalized spaces for individual endeavors like working, studying, and exercising, coupled with communal destinations for dining and entertaining both inside and out. It’s a refuge, where every need is thoughtfully anticipated and beautifully fulfilled,” Wilson continues. u

Above & Right: Balancing luxury with livability, the open floor plan is unified with 8” wide plank blonde maple flooring, creamy white walls, and alabaster-painted trim punctuated with dark painted doors and window frames. Scott introduced dual maple gridwork tile ceiling designs to add architectural interest and connectivity between the great room and kitchen. “We used silk sandwiched between slender panels of glass — provided by Richlin International — to conceal the television and add a beautiful element of reflection in the space,” says Romanza Interior Design’s Michael Scott. Above Left & Below Left: The first-floor study features a wrapping bay window and a built-in wall detail reaching up to clerestory windows. Beyond practical needs, the desires of today’s discerning homebuyers are addressed as well, from a handsome, custom-designed wine bar off the great room to an ultra-luxury master suite with a spa-rivaling bath. Foretelling trends in home design, an insatiable craving for expansive closet space is satisfied in fashion with dual Poliform-outfitted walk-in wardrobes from Richlin International. To greet guests in style, a VIP suite is similarly appointed to the master, but on a slightly smaller scale, while offering water views, a luxurious bath, and sizable walk-in closet. u

Above: A walnut finished built-in server with lighted display provides a visual break between the all-white kitchen and the dining space. A trio of large lanterns in a polished nickel finish with clear and white glass shades illuminate an Alfonso Marina dining table where guests can eat while they enjoy the magnificent water views beyond. Dual islands topped with mitered-edge solid porcelain accommodate meal preparation, extra storage, and entertaining with extra seating for casual gatherings. Pompeii quartz surrounds the integrated Wolf cooktop, while linear lighting and LED technology remove wall clutter. homeanddesign.net

The larger closet’s custom glass doors — also provided by Richlin International — close to form a graceful tree. Opposite, an illuminated Poliform Italian gallery case showcases the owner’s passions. “It’s the ideal space for displaying prized objets d’art, or a treasured Birkin collection,” says Scott.

Acknowledging the prevalence of dual-career couples, a pair of studies in the home grants both partners’ wish for office space private unto themselves. A vaulted-ceiling guest suite presents additional possibilities for a dedicated fitness studio, play space, or media room over a garage large enough to accommodate five vehicles with a lift and electric car charging capabilities. To create a custom home benefitting the caliber of its locale, Wilson and his award-winning firm harnessed a team of proven professionals to collaborate with: architect Jon Kukk, landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design, and interior designer Michael Scott of London Bay Homes’ interior design firm Romanza Interior Design. u

Above: The home’s master suite, featuring a king-size Alfonso Marina bed and ebony-finished chests with brass hardware, is positioned to take advantage of its premium water views through an expansive wrapped window with touch-control motorized blackout shades. Along with a pair of Theodore Alexander mahogany frame arm chairs finished with polished stainless accents and a matching bench, an abstract watercolor pattern Glen Eden custom New Zealand wool and nylon area rug completes the room. Outside, a trellis frames the view, while the use of the same tile for coping and waterline helps add to the seamless effect of the pool edge spilling into the master bedroom’s window. homeanddesign.net

89

Inspired by the transitional flair in Kukk’s plan, award-winning designer Scott conceived the casually elegant, clean-lined coastal interior design of the estate, with modern touches and neutral tones to enhance the livability of the home. A point-and-counterpoint contrast of dark against light in the home’s exterior continues within, most notably in its caviar-painted doors and black-trimmed window casings. A seamless transition to the breath-taking outdoor living area is achieved through pivot doors from the dining room and an easy lift-and-slide pocket door from the great room, while a sunken seating area with a fire table features a wood deck inlay. “We created defined spaces through elevation change and material contrasts,” says landscape architect Christian Andrea. An intuitively integrated interface allows the homeowner

shades,

shutters, interior lighting, pool settings, and create timed events — like dramatic pool and landscape lighting effects at night, or opening the master suite shades at dawn. A curated selection of knobs and pulls and Phillip Jeffries wallcoverings add detail, depth, and texture to rooms throughout the home. “Each room is a balance of function, comfort, and style,” Scott concludes. n For more information on London Bay Homes’ newest estate in Port Royal, contact Toby Cloutier at 239.280.7367 or visit londonbay.com.

Above & Right: Defined by Venetian plaster walls and a masterful mix of tilework, the spa-style bath incorporates custom blue-gray Calacatta floors with Carrara white accents. Within its sleek, Laguna Series sliding barn door shower system from Glass Design, the walk-through shower’s wall of Bianco Carrara marble tile with a silver leaf backing adds dimension and depth, reflecting the natural light shared by the luxurious Kohler soaking tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery.

FLORIDA FASHIONISTA 104

homeanddesign.net

W

“We wanted to create the ideal client for this project, building the home to accommodate a fashionista who would love old Hollywood glam but also understood the casual Florida lifestyle,” says Dwayne Bergmann of Dwayne Bergmann Interiors on his vision for this spec home in Talis Park. Luxurious champagne tones, soft aquas, and metallic accents warm the sophisticated gray and white backdrop while crystal sparkles in each space. Balancing masculine and feminine elements, a repetition of colors, finishes, and materials all harmonize this home’s design. u

Left: The great room is an explosion of beguiling casual meets luxe elements. Crystalline quartzite with glittering stacked stone and chrome metal inlays adorn the fireplace. Encased in a polished nickel sphere, this crystal chandelier is a dangling jewel designed by Dwayne Bergmann Interiors. The European White Oak flooring by Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring sets the stage for the design palette of champagne finishes, snow white and aqua chevron patterns, metallic lizard print leather, and dazzling golds. homeanddesign.net

Feminine curves and faux ostrich leather barstools balance the deeper masculine tones of the island. The sideboard, with vintage details in a metallic champagne beige, anchors the watercolor fashionista portraits dressed in antique mirrored frames from Dwayne Bergmann Interiors, and Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring below is from their LaFlamiglia collection in the Domenico finish. 106

With 14-foot ceilings, the great room showcases an opulent chandelier that embodies the grace of a jewel-clad fashionista. Alongside it is the mixed material floor-to-ceiling fireplace — a signature of the Hollywood-glam style. Low profile furnishings, arranged for conversation, with gentle curves and a soothing color palette soften the lines of the structure. Architect

favorite aspect as, “The excellent flow of the design from front to back.” The floor-to-ceiling backsplash in the kitchen mirrors the fireplace, revealing this home’s comfortable symmetry. This continuity creates a calming exploration of the space as Bergmann expertly merges elegant Hollywood with tranquil Florida. Marble inlay flooring continues up the dining room column drawing the eye to the double tray ceiling and pausing on the bands of sparkling stacked stone that repeats on the fireplace. Straight lines meet organic curves and the colorway of saturated navy to soft champagne culminates in the art display — the gestalt of this design concept. u

Left: This regal dining set showing off metallic champagne wood finishes, gold inlay, and gold linen fabric prominently sits below the crystal chandelier. Stone banding on the column attracts the eye upwards, much like the icy white, flatfold, waterfall draperies from Dwayne Bergmann Interiors. Splashing creamy topaz, gleaming gold, bold turquoise, and silvery-white colors, this oil-oncanvas artwork elegantly traverses the colorway and glamorous Florida setting.

Right: This artwork embodies the glamour of a Hollywood fashionista with her velvety-white gown adorned with dazzling gold- and sapphire-encrusted jewelry. Three backlit quarter-turned pedestals in a metallic champagne finish anchor the artwork and display three fluid-form vases from Dwayne Bergmann Interiors. “Visible from the front door, this artwork sets the tone for what you’re going to [experience] through the home,” delights Bergmann.

In the master bedroom, the substantial interlocking ceiling detail echoes the shapes of a men’s bracelet. “I wanted to soften this room and balance the architectural elements that read more masculine,” says Bergmann. By applying a lavender wallpaper in a damask pattern, Bergmann lends a feminine feel to the room and gives a touch of old Hollywood flair. The office’s deep tones also channel masculinity, while the crystal accents that dangle from the chandelier gently resemble a fashionista’s sparkling jewels. The wet bar off the kitchen provides balance with coordinating espresso colored cabinets. u

Right: The bright-white settee, with a sweeping hourglass curve, emanates femininity. White shaggy and lavender fabric pillows on the bed flatter the Lilac Portofino Fashion wallpaper from Dwayne Bergmann Interiors. Opposite the bed, Bergmann describes the luminous gold bullion finished media cabinet as having, “abstract cutouts that look like diamond cut stones.” Inviting comfort into this opulent master suite, Bergmann dresses up the top third of the window treatments to lower the scale.

Below: Beaded free-hanging crystal and chrome sconces by Wilson Lighting add glam in this master bathroom. Bergmann pulls the crystalline quartzite in, pairing it with a sleek gray Bianca Carrera marble, creating a stunning floor and equally graceful shower outfit with rainfall fixtures from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. An accent wall in a textured metallic silver with silver flecks finish by Fab’s Faux Decor’s Fabienne Vieyres is a, “beautiful presentation of the depth and variation of grays within texture and sparkle,” states Bergmann.

To achieve his envisioned Hollywood-glam-meets-Florida-casual design, Bergmann seamlessly mixes vintage stylings, a calming colorway, and consistent elements that surpass the homeowner’s expectations. “I didn’t know I could walk into a home and it would be perfectly designed for me,” says Bergmann’s client — and just like that, the fashionista found her home. n

Above: “I set this up with an Old Hollywood feel,” Bergmann shares. Between the burnished walnut Shakerstyle cabinets, Bergmann accessorizes the floating glass shelves with vintage carafes and antiques. The flashy, rough-cut, crystalline quartzite stone backsplash from The Tile Boutique by Marla Davidson sparkles like the cabinet’s dazzling chrome and crystal pulls.

Right: Dressed for both elegant entertaining and casual relaxation, this bonus room features a glitzy chandelier, gold accessories, and a tropical view. Bergmann selected cozy furnishings with feminine curves for this space. The rug’s soft gray and champagne tones mimic the serene movement in the abstract art above. In the corner, the armoire revels in the Hollywood-glam style with a velvety-gray finish.

Above: This outdoor living space pulls in its casual surroundings. A coarse silver stacked travertine wall treatment relates to the interior and stands alone, highlighting more saturated grays, taupes, and browns. Relaxed curves and a bright colorway define the driftwood woven finish and coconut fabric seating, with Absynth Melon fabric throw pillows by Dwayne Bergmann Interiors. Left: Deep navy and cobalt hues on the wool rug, settee, window, and wall treatments make a strong masculine statement. The abstract metallic Tree of Life artwork adds visual texture on top of the Burnished Metal Stria wallpaper from Dwayne Bergmann Interiors. In Midnight Blue, the faux-silk, pinched-pleat panels stand out against the walls painted in Sherwin-Williams Repose Gray. All the while a vibrant living bird of paradise invites the leisurely Florida lifestyle.

Broker and Partner Taber Tagliasacchi of Calusa Bay Properties redefines the meaning of service as she adapts to selling luxury homes during a global pandemic. This transitional, West Indies-style spec home in Pelican Bay sold in April of 2020 — and sales aren’t dropping! Calusa Bay Properties aligns with Calusa Bay Development, Stofft Cooney Architects, Calusa Bay Design, and Knauf-Koenig Group to form a team with unrivaled success in the Pelican Bay area. “We find the best lots, design the best homes, and develop the best curb appeal. We hand pick the best of everything, and collaboratively we deliver beautiful high-end homes. It’s a formula that works!” says Matt Knauf, co-founder of Knauf-Koenig Group. u

Above: This entry view blurs the line between indoor and outdoor with floor-to-ceiling windows and natural light that catches in the soft, airy sheers. The substantial quartzite coffee table juxtaposes the soft fabrics and furnishings of the room. Velvety pillows in geometric and watercolor patterns “encapsulate the look of water,” according to lead interior designer Liz Brown, while the sky-blue glass table lamps by Calusa Bay Design layer texture.

128

homeanddesign.net

Right: Housing up to 800 bottles, this wine vault clad in bleached walnut is a refreshing use of material that lightens the room’s feel and was a collaborative effort done onsite. Custom bronze wine racks tie in to the delicate coastal chandelier with dark iron branches and leafy details from Calusa Bay Design. With limited wall space for artwork, the multidimensional soft blue and silver place settings offer whimsy and interest atop this considerable dining table.

Instead of meeting the potential homebuyers at the property during these times, Tagliasacchi holds virtual Zoom showings, walking the home and eloquently “adding a narrative” to each space. “This half-acre home site affords lush, green, tropical spaces that impact the home’s curb appeal as well as the interior design. Inside, you get the benefit of light filtering through the palms’ leaves and bouncing off the colors of the flowers,” says Tagliasacchi, describing the experience to her remote clients. It is the accumulation of skillful and artful details that arise from the collaboration of this talented team that propels them to the top in Pelican Bay’s market. u Above: Calusa Bay Properties includes more intimate vignette images of their listings to deepen the emotional connections with potential homebuyers. “During the pandemic, home offices are important now more than ever,” says Tagliasacchi. Here, the cased windows display tropical views that augment the textural woven grasscloth wallcovering. The tufted armchair in a woven light-blue fabric and warm finish pairs well with the bold brass pedestal table from Calusa Bay Design. Seen beyond, the resort-like pool is the perfect out-of-office retreat. homeanddesign.net

131

Above: “In these grand homes, intimate niches like this truly make it a home not just a house,” shares Tagliasacchi. This custom banquet highlights the meticulous carpentry details and is a Calusa Bay Design signature. Playful, coastal textures are found in the woven rope chairs. The three sizable pendants with woven sea grass and soft linen shades hang over the custom table with an oyster-glaze-on-maple-top and a forged metal base from Calusa Bay Design.

Right: This kitchen cannot be found anywhere else! Exclusively by Calusa Bay Design, the island and lower cabinets’ gray-on-taupe washed glaze finish elegantly displays the coastal concept. The remaining doors, finished in a simple white, lift the eye upward to view the casework details that fill this kitchen with intention. A creamy quartzite island top spans the room along with the custom patina metal hood. Reminiscent of sea glass, the silk finish recycled glass backsplash from Ceramic Matrix draws on the room’s muted colorway.

Wanting to create a West Indies-style home that pays homage to the traditional architecture in the area, architect John Cooney of Stofft Cooney Architects adds open, heavy timber trusses and stone clad columns for a dramatic entryway. “Dark stain, wood beams, and coffers are typically used in the West Indies-style, but we took those interior elements and painted them white. Doing so lightens the architecture and gives more of a transitional feel to the home,” Cooney explains. Lead designer Liz Brown of Calusa Bay Design complements the architecture with a multi-textural, sophisticated spin on coastal interior design. “Traditionally in a coastal palette you see saturated blue and white, but to elevate it we used more subtle tones,” says Brown. During the interactive virtual Zoom showing, Tagliasacchi draws attention to Knauf-Koenig Group’s craftsmanship and the feel of fabrics and textures brought in by Brown. Tagliasacchi virtually imparts the feelings of home to her clients so they can remain at a safe distance during the pandemic. u

Above: Calusa Bay Design captures a sense of calm in this master bedroom through neutral tones, “We add interest through varied textures,” says Brown. The wooden bed frame showcases a beautiful grain pattern, metal accents, and woven raffia panels. The chandelier with delicate white tendrils hangs above. Left: Gray Nimbus Marble tiles from Ceramic Matrix and sky white Dolomite Marble countertops fill this opulent space. The cabinetry by Calusa Bay Design in a silky-taupe finish with shutter door fronts harken back to the coastal theme. “Bathrooms are defined by resplendent materials and the adjacency of the elements rather than being exorbitantly sized,” says Cooney, describing how the vanity, makeup area, and freestanding Kohler tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery offer exquisite views of the space. homeanddesign.net

135

With the uncertainty of facing another mandatory quarantine, this already hot area in Pelican Bay has seen record sales. “No one wants to go through another season in the cities,” states Knauf. And who wouldn’t want to “hunker down” in a high-class home developed, designed, built, and sold by this team of unparalleled collaborators? n This home was sold by Taber Tagliasacchi, Calusa Bay Properties. Above Left: Bold porcelain tiles made to resemble concrete adorn the fireplace and complement the concrete coffee table with a fluted edge. Calusa Bay Design strategically sets durable relaxing seating to enjoy the fire and views of the landscape by designer Kevin Schafer. “The objective for the outdoor living area landscaping is to provide a serene sense of privacy and separation while maintaining the incredible Pelican Bay golf course view!” shares Schafer. To complete the pool deck, natural teak and woven lounge chairs in a soft, durable outdoor fabric face the stunning pool and large tiki torches attract the eye toward the landscape and year-round sunsets. Above Right: Set against a mature landscape, this West Indies-style home exhibits pitched roofs, overhangs, and heavy timber. Cooney refines the style with a transitional interpretation utilizing bright white stucco and calming multi-tonal gray stone that foreshadows the interior colorway. Irrigated grass strips run between the large brick driveway, offering a soft step and adding interest to the exquisite home’s curb appeal. 136

“You don’t have to leave the space you love — just recreate it and make it better,” says Lisa Guild, owner and lead designer of LMG Design Consulting. To bring this Naples waterfront condo fashion-forward, the highly experienced team knew all the walls had to go! Brightening the colorway and using clever construction techniques led them to realize this ocean-inspired design. Guild, along with LMG Design Consulting interior designer Amanda Bugar, start with what they call the “genesis fabric.” Found in the pillows on the curved sectional, this fabric features sea-spray colors inspiring the spectrum of blues that bounce throughout the bright space. Corkscrews, arcs, and round shapes — representing the circuitous chambered nautilus shell — inspire the meaningfully chosen furnishings for a cohesive interior. u

Above: A crisp cream and white backdrop allows the eye to bounce and rest comfortably on the varying shades of ocean-inspired blues. The curved console table by Vanguard Furniture nestles perfectly behind the custom curved sectional, both from International Design Source. Continuing the shell theme, two hourglass matte white end tables serve the sectional. Like an ocean-worn shell, these textured bases anchor the slick and cool top. Left: Amid the seashell-inspired furnishings, beams in the coffered ceiling — painted in a glossy Super White by Benjamin Moore — lead the eye through wide pane windows toward the water view. Swivel chairs with ascending curved backs from International Design Source showcase one blue from the spectrum found in the home’s design palette. The light fixture swirls like a corkscrew and complements the organic glass wall art pieces by Tim Miller.

Heading up the build team, Michael Bevacqua, president of M.D.B. General Contractors, applies a “no compromise” approach to the construction and design. Removing all non-structural walls updates the layout; but adding height with fixed concrete floors and ceilings requires the expertise of this well-rounded team. Bevacqua conceals the mechanicals in the foyer ceiling, maximizing volume for the main living spaces. “All the lines in the floor and coffered ceiling run toward the new wider impact glass windows, and really expand the feeling of the space,” a compliment from Camden Ashmore, vice president of Ashmore Design. Guild recalls her initial reaction to the completely enclosed kitchen was, “We have to blow this all out — open it up and make it feel part of the larger space!” By dropping the walls, replacing the cabinets, and weaving in details like wave-patterned glass, the kitchen now connects with the larger space. Bevacqua describes how the structural components are masterfully integrated, “We concealed a concrete support beam and did not use up floor space behind the pantry, creating additional storage.” u

“As you move through the space, differing amounts of the blue color spectrum reveal itself, Guild shares, noting how this design philosophy interconnects even the private spaces. No optical illusions in the master bedroom after the team adds 10 inches of floor space by moving a wall to expand it for a grander feel. This dramatic transformation owes itself to the talented team who embraces the oceanic inspiration that bounces and swirls between spaces. And best of all, the homeowners were able to stay in a location they loved. n

Oil-rubbed bronze door hardware is a classic finish that brings balance to the home’s modish elements. 166

Picture a peaceful paradise getaway. Imagine a rolling estate-home with a lush landscape enveloping a saltwater pool, lounges, fire pit, and spa. Situated to capture the warm southern sun, it is walking distance from shops, fine dining, and the sugar sand beaches. Now — imagine this is home. VIV Builders, VIV Homes, MHK Architecture & Planning, and Architectural Land Design join forces to develop this rare, oversized lot into a coastal casual, elegant, resort-style destination home in booming Old Naples. This unique lot presents opportunities, not challenges, for this team who seamlessly blend formality and the calming tropical setting. “The double front porch speaks to the casual outdoor living,” explains Steven Jallad of MHK Architecture & Planning, “and the flanking lighthouse-like towers provide the anchor that says, ‘here I am!’” Symmetry drives the formal feel of the exterior, while nautical elements like a porthole window and metal roof connect this stately home to its beachy Naples address. u

167

“The goal of the design was to maximize the outdoor living experience by drawing you outside at every opportunity,” states Jallad. Christian Andrea and Phil McHenry of Architectural Land Design arrived at this quintessential design early on. Orchestrating the outdoor layout on a perpendicular axis, the team creates a runway-like pool design and raises the planters and the deck to engage the home with the soaring tropical vistas of this expansive resort-style property. “It’s one thing to know you have a strong team — the whole package — but this site and footprint from MHK provided a great width and length in the rear yard, allowing us to create this remarkable backyard oasis,” says McHenry. u

Above: VIV Homes customizes every rug in this home, and the dining room’s soft braided rug carries the same warm honey tones as the cascading coco bead chandeliers from Made Goods. While the whitewashed dining table and Parsons chairs have a casual breezy feel, the bar’s dark umber finish strikes a dramatic, edgy mood.

Below: “This great room has unforgettable views of the striking blue pool, which stretches far beyond the wide, full-length pocketing slider door,” says Reed, who uses, “light in color, but bold in scale furnishings,” as a backdrop. The glass discs on the chandelier catch the light, reflecting aqua pool tones to unify the space with its resort setting. Reed adds interest with the accent pillows ikat fabric and texture with the grasscloth wallcovering.

To harmonize the casual vibe with this awe-inspiring home, VIV Homes Head of Design Carly Reed uses classically elegant furnishings with a “whisper of coastal elements, neutral earth tones, and soft textures that easily allow the stunning architecture to shine,” she says. Each space carries the soothing color palette and transitional style with special treasure-pieces to highlight soft curves, aqua colors, coco bead textures, and antique mirrors to infuse character. VIV Homes, VIV Builders, MHK Architecture & Planning, and Architectural Land Design fulfill the elegant coastal resort vision for this remarkable lot by encapsulating the feel of a tropical getaway. Rex Miller, with William Raveis Real Estate, sums it up perfectly: “This resort-style setting and the feel of a vacation is why people come to Naples — this home epitomizes that inside and out.” n This home was sold by Rex Miller, P.A., William Raveis Real Estate.

Above: VIV Homes designed the headboard in a tufted, sandy linen fabric reinforced by the rectangular shapes on the nightstands. Pure white seashells dangle from the classic empire chandelier, infusing opulence into the white, beachy, tongue-and-groove ceiling treatment. Swooping curves on the John-Richard chairs soften the room, while inviting you to relax and gaze at the canopy of pink bougainvillea.

Left: Centered in the room, the beaded chandelier hangs from the barrel ceiling clad in a three-dimensional gray and white basketweave tile. Light bounces off the creamy pale-taupe Benjamin Moore paint. The Calcutta Marble of the floor mosaic perfectly blends the earthy color palette with bronze and honey-brown accents. The simple white cabinets flank the freestanding tub, offering pleasing symmetry to this elegant master bathroom.

Left: The colonnade of stately pillars frames the calming view and invites tropical colors to become part of this entry balcony. The upscale relaxed seating carries coastal elements, while the pillows share the same variations of color as the natural landscape. The railing is capped and stained with the same rich walnut-espresso as the tongue-and-groove ceiling that showcases an oil-rubbed bronze lantern pendant.

Above: “This vaulted VIP suite is a little more moody,” Reed shares as she creates a swanky aura by offsetting the dark espresso tongue-and-groove ceiling with light and airy furnishings. Mirrored finishes repeat on the nightstand, silver nailheads, and mirror frame artwork. Soft light radiates from the cascading capiz shell chandelier — this beachy element ties into the suite’s mother of pearl accents that sparkle in the bathroom tiles.

Left: Woven coco beads in a creamy honeycomb color on the traditional dangling chandelier blend formal with coastal. The stark white rug echoes the crisp ceiling color, but the warm wood tones on the dresser and chandelier balance the color spectrum designed by VIV Homes. The bedding in a light gray Belgium linen allows the aqua and soft blue accent pillows to pop. Reed anchors the wraparound windows with playful teal-to-cream tie dye poufs from Surya.

Left: “This oversized lot allowed us to do a number of special things beyond what is typical in this area, Miller describes the nearly 7,000-square-foot property supporting a four-car garage, rear alley access, and grand entrance. Multi-tonal concrete pavers with an alternating band make up the symmetrical driveway by Architectural Land Design. Large circular turning nodes on either side provide extra parking and add unique soft curvatures to the stately straight away drive.

To enhance the resort-style feel, Architectural Land Design utilizes exotic ipe decking that delineates the fire pit from the glistening 52-foot pool. Raised planters that showcase mature palms with fuchsia flowers offer extra seating on the shellstone top. These planters, clad in glass tiles, shine back the blue pool color. The pool shelf, fitted with water bubblers between the Ledge Lounger chairs, marks this as a true destination experience. 174

Above: The white trellis will be brimming with blossoming, vibrant bougainvillea vines to “create the perfect overhead experience, says McHenry. The view from the spa is a treasure as the trellis overhead frames the sights of this yard oasis. Stepping stones separate the pool from the spa sanctuary, yet holds it together with lit water channels that one can traverse to a waiting hammock.

CHARISMATIC RETREAT

N

Natural instinct is needed to see the potential of a dark space with little sunlight. This couple saw just that — “A diamond in the rough,” agrees interior designer Chrissy Howard and design associate Barbara Schwenk of Jinx McDonald Interior Designs. Howard and Schwenk knew their two-woman design team had a third member when the client came to them with a clear vision of vibrant color, timeless furnishings, and hope, for a bright space with sweet feminine accents for this twenty-year-old property. “Having a client so well prepared with what she wanted elevated our team. Needless to say it was a delight,” says Howard. u

Right: Howard notes the dining area’s artwork is a “bright, high-impact focal point.” Infusing sunny orange and red hues, its playful beach day scene mirrors the great room’s view of the beach and Gulf, and the beaded chandelier makes a statement being the only ceiling fixture. An ivory, washed-linen look to the dining table from International Design Source reinforces the white and cream concept, while the rattan chairs in a small scale ikat fabric offer subtle repetition.

186

Natural light now fills the great room, and the bright collection of colors and timeless details shines. “Using such vivid colors, we all wanted white walls for a balanced design,” says Howard. The apple green chairs in a solid tweed offer a solid color against the Palecek chair done in a citrine and periwinkle ikat fabric. A large soffit running across the glass doors had cast a shadowy feel on the condo. It is now full of bright, tropical light that illuminates the playful amalgam of intricate ikat patterns and vivid fabrics. Softer interpretations of the lively color palette flow through the private spaces with gentle curves and soft powdery blues and pinks to add a feminine touch. Matt

Mendenhall,

president

of

August

General

Contracting, shares, “The client, the design team, and myself all wanted to open up the space to allow more light in and offer better views of the Gulf of the Mexico.” Mendenhall transformed the choppy space by reengineering the air conditioning systems, reworking the fire sprinklers, all while contending with the constraints of a condo building. u

Right: Mendenhall re-frames the ceiling to create architectural interest, and uniquely places all electrical outlets in the under cabinet lighting for aesthetic. This bright white and aqua kitchen features a modified Shakerstyle door with a slightly beaded accent from Kitchens by Clay. The polished Pompeii Misterio countertop glistens with the luminous aqua tile backsplash. While all done in the same aqua, the handmade glazing technique produces varied saturations of color.

Howard beautifully articulates the inspiration, “The cream and white pillow fabric, where birds and blooms flourish in aqua, apple green, and sapphire inspired us and gave us permission to use cream and white together.” Colorful expression harmonizes these living, dining, and kitchen areas. The white and aqua kitchen extends the view of this bountiful design and is now open to the great room. Gaby Saad of Real Wood Floors helped the homeowners, Howard, and Schwenk select the perfect finish for the French oak flooring to unify the spaces. “Gaby really understands her products and has excellent design aesthetic,” says Howard. “Ultimately, she narrowed down the options to the perfect floor for this project!” u

Above: “The dynamic colors energize this space, but classic shapes and profiles lend sophistication,” shares Howard. The scallop skirt on the Hickory Chair media console from International Design Source offers a rustic femininity. Other pieces like the white palm leaf ceramic table adds variation to wood and upholstery. The bleached sand French oak flooring by Real Wood Floors allows for a soothing experience across the rooms. Left: This Sadie Beaded mirror in an emerald green by Palecek has gold accents with hand-painted cocoa shells and green buri nut beads. From Naples Lamp Shop’s leafy pendant chandelier to accent vases from International Design Source, gold repeats itself across this welcoming entry. Graceful curves and organic textures on the console in a woven seagrass anchor these gorgeous elements, while Wendover’s Touch of the Sea artwork bridges the view.

Minka McDonald, of Jinx McDonald Interior Designs — daughter of founder Jinx McDonald, and now president of the firm — credits the success of this project and others to the firm’s strong, long-standing reputation in the industry, along with their client-centric approach to design. “We create beautiful yet livable spaces,” says McDonald. The firm’s philosophy is to ensure that each project accurately reflects the homeowners’ taste and brings out their personalities. It takes a natural instinct to see the potential in a client’s strong vision for a space, and the team at Jinx McDonald Interior Designs, alongside August General Contracting, value inspiration and communication. Together they created this light and bright, charismatic, Gulf-front retreat. n

The twin beds from Serena & Lily in a white frame showcase the textural cane inset. “The bedding is a harmonious blend of what we and the client realized,” shares Schwenk, “Together we layered quilted pieces, sweet pink and sandy tones with a mixture of geometric and leafy patterns.” Whimsical flamingo artwork is eye catching, while gold gilded palm leaves from International Design Source elongate the headboards.

UNIFIED DESIGN

This stunning waterfront home is artistic and inspired by the homeowners’ love for geometric details and organic motifs. Architectural Land Design incorporated lush, tropical landscaping with contemporary water features to bridge the boundaries between the indoor and outdoor living spaces. Wright Interior Group and architect Jonathan Kukk designed this 9,778-square-foot under air Port Royal estate home constructed by builder Andy Bringardener, for their clients to enjoy year-round Florida living. The home’s façade, walkway, and entry columns are finished in natural stone — Mocha Créme and Ocean Reef — and the columns are inset with bronze metal detail, all from DeMarco Tile. 204

Designing a more than 13,000-square-foot forever home from the ground up over a three-year period was a true pleasure for Wright Interior Group. After working with the homeowners on their previous home, Creative Principal Nan Wright and Associate Creative Director Caitlin Heath were able to satisfy the husband’s love for geometric details and the wife’s appreciation for softer, organic motifs, all while creating a unified design showcasing a classic style with coastal accents. Wright and Heath were involved in the design, specifying exquisite material selections from the start of the project. “We really wanted to make every area special,” says Heath. From the exterior’s custom mahogany entry door by New Erra Doors, to the interior’s Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring in their Giuseppina finish, every space fascinates. u

205

“We use 3D renderings to illustrate the unique features we design,” explains Wright, “So, even in the planning stages, our clients can see a realistic photo of what each space will look like once it is completed.” One particularly important detail to the homeowners: ensure the property’s breathtaking views would be enjoyed from all areas of the home. “The Bay appears to come right up into the foyer,” explains Project Manager Phil McHenry of Architectural Land Design, who worked with the homeowners and design team to bring everyone’s landscaping and outdoor living ideas to life. u

Left: A dining table with linen laminated glass, hammered metal base, and table top banding is quite compelling. Chenille crescent-shaped sofas from International Design Source welcome visitors to sit and experience this one-of-a-kind entry space where the interior meets the pool and water view.

206

The owner’s contributions to the décor and design were vital say the builder and architect. And she knew her mind. She wanted a “timeless” home—one in which accessories could be interchangeable. “I chose grays and white and relied on a variety of textures for interest and definition,” she says. From the 12 ft chandelier in the foyer to each of the furnishings, the home bears her imprint.

The home’s exterior incorporates a range of design elements. “They wanted something a little different, not something ultra-modern,” explains McHenry, describing the home’s grand-yet-sleek façade. To the contrary, he says the outdoor living area feels “more playful and fun.” One of Port Royal’s well-known builders, Andy Bringardener, built the opulent waterfront estate. “This project is one that before you even start with a shovel in the ground, you just know the finished product is going to be spectacular,” says Bringardner, who attributes this project’s success to the team of professionals involved, stating they were, “a dream team.” Another vital member of the “dream team” is architect Jonathan Kukk. “We worked really closely with Jon from the very beginning,” says Wright. “It was a really creative collaboration. He brought some ideas, we brought some ideas, and we were able to meld everything and make it all work.” u

Left: Every feature in this expansive kitchen was designed to accommodate the ease and pleasure of its function, as well as the comfort and enjoyment of its form. The custom-made millwork is a combination of painted and stained finishes with inset stainless steel trim accents on the drawers. Commissioned from a St. Petersburg, Florida glass artist, a hurricane-eye inspired, three-fourths inch glass backsplash and peninsula inlay design was created with sand and was pressure-molded in a kiln to melt the glass into the sand design, which creates a one-of-a-kind artistic statement. “I went to a studio in Tampa and worked with him to come up with the design,” says Wright.

Polished porcelain tile in an elongated hexagon shape wraps the entire barrel ceiling. Right: The inside bar plays a pivotal role for the home’s design and function. “The stone was the inspiration for the home’s color scheme,” says Wright. The columns and countertops are fabricated from an exotic natural stone, which is vein-matched in a zigzag design on both the vertical columns and the horizontal countertop surface. It provides the perfect space for family and friends to relax and hang out, and it is easily accessible from the great room, kitchen, and dining room.

The bed is the focal point of this suite with its 9-foot custom-built upholstered headboard and stained wood bed surround, sourced through International Design Source.

212

Every space was carefully considered to ensure each room was unique yet purposeful for the homeowners’ lifestyle, while cohesive to the overall aesthetic. “Our goal is to achieve optimal results for the client and exceed their expectations,” says Bringardner. Wright agrees, “The whole team worked really well together to make all of the home’s unique features come to life.” And when this group of professionals refers to “the team”, they are including their incredible clients. “When you have a client that is easy-going, enjoys all the details and special finishes you select,” reflects Wright. “It is simply the best combo,” Heath concludes. n

From under cover or al fresco dining to cocktails around the fire pit, this resort-like space offers a supreme outdoor living experience. The deck and lanai columns are covered in the same natural stone in Mocha Créme from DeMarco Tile. The stunning waterfront view is complimented by a multilevel pool with several fire and water features desgined by Architectural Land Design. Landscape architect Christian Andrea describes its “curvilinear” style as one that offers a softer effect, yet still incorporates linear architectural aspects. Three spherical water orbs — Aqualens by Allison Armour — appear to be floating over the upper deck’s wading pool. Thoughtfully positioned, the orbs are visible from several points of the home.

THE HOUSE THAT LOVE BUILT Home & Design is very proud to dedicate these pages to a generous and caring group of local design professionals who have taken the time to share their talents and donate toward the expansion of the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southwest Florida. Our team would like to thank co-chairs Suzanne Costa and Jeffrey Fisher for the opportunity to provide support as the media sponsor for Project Design 2020, as well as highlight this group of extraordinary designers and sponsors within our design community. We are truly inspired by this group of professionals who take pride in what they do and share their talents to support this wonderful cause. We hope our reveal of this amazing ‘HOME’ leaves you equally inspired. — Home & Design Team

FROM CO-CHAIRS SUZANNE COSTA & JEFFREY FISHER We are so honored to chair Project Design 2020, benefitting Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southwest Florida. The very first Project Design began in New York in 2013, stemming from the belief that great design transforms the energy of a space to bring comfort to families of seriously ill children. As we reveal the newly expanded Fort Myers house, which includes 10 new spaces designed by top designers from the Southwest Florida area, we collectively continue to work with the same intention that began back in 2013. It has been a wonderful journey leading this worthwhile project. We cannot thank the staff and volunteers at Ronald McDonald House enough for allowing us into the house the love built once again. Sincerely with honor, Suzanne Costa & Jeffrey Fisher

Entryway designed by Suzanne Costa for the 2016 remodel.

JEFFREY FISHER HOME I want guests staying in the Jeffrey Fisher Home suite to have the full JFH experience. I love color and pattern, tropical and animal prints, and although I love modern, I also appreciate “more is more”. I want guests to feel as if they’ve checked-in to a really cool, well-designed hotel. When they are in this room, I want them to be able to leave the day’s worries at the door and, if only for a few minutes, be able to absorb and appreciate their surroundings. — Jeffrey Fisher

We designed our bedroom suite to create a comfortable home away from home for those families staying at Ronald McDonald House®. The soft tones in the space are meant to evoke a feeling of peace and calm. Keeping the function and safety of the space in mind, family-friendly fabrics and textures were mindfully selected to create a place of respite. The images of cranes in flight encourage uplifting thoughts and add a sense of freedom and escape for the imagination. We hope that our design will make families feel pampered and help them to cope with their struggles during their stay. — Judith Liegeois & Team

JUDITH LIEGEOIS DESIGN

FICARRA DESIGN ASSOCIATES Our goal for this space was to create a retreat for families that stay in this home away from home. Inspired by some of Florida’s most cheerful vacation homes, our design layers color, pattern, and natural materials to invite visiting families inside. Colorful fabrics keep the space bright and upbeat while natural textures, such as rattan and vinyl grasscloth add a sense of coziness. Contributing to the mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities® is near and dear to our hearts. We are extremely honored to utilize our design skills as a tool to create a pleasant experience for families with children receiving special care at the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. — Lisa Ficarra & Team

RENEE GADDIS INTERIORS Inspired by a sense of cheerfulness, we wanted to design a space that instantly creates feelings of happiness, optimism, and hope. Through incorporating fun textures and furniture, vibrant colors and brass metals, eclectic accessories and art, the space is not only enjoyable but also equally comforting. The wood flooring runs up the headboard wall to add warmth while the beds are accented with bold pillows and pom-pom trimmed throw blankets. The bathroom’s colorfully patterned handmade cement tile adorns the floor, while white subway tile is used in the handicap-accessible shower. Bright blue wallcovering completes the look. Our hope is that the overall design of this bedroom helps families feel an overwhelming sense of love, peace, and warmth, bringing big, bright smiles to all who stay here! — Renee Gaddis & Team

PAMELA DURKIN DESIGNS I am calling the concept for this room “Messages of Hope”. When my younger son was born, he was in the NICU for 10 days, which seemed like an eternity. My days were spent completely focused on him. I can’t even imagine what a physical and emotional strain it must be for the parents who go through this for months at a time. The goal for this room was to provide a little break from the stress of the days and give them a tiny respite. I hope this space helps them fill their tank, even just a little bit, so they can face whatever challenges come up the following day. I have placed messages throughout the space to remind them that they are strong and will make it through this. I am so proud to be a part of this project and am grateful for all my vendors who have wholeheartedly stepped up and supported me in this venture. — Pamela Durkin

Entry & Hallway

REPUBLIC OF DECOR I was inspired by the Japanese legend of 1,000 origami cranes. The centuries-old concept represents wishes granted from the gods for happiness, good luck, and recovery of illness. A custom-designed crane mural covers the walls of the bedrooms’ hallway. I selected lighting and accessories inspired by folded paper and handmade paper cranes, as well as created framed origami art — folded by yours truly — to add the finishing touch! My hope is that by bringing design elements inspired by origami into the space, I will create positive energy and bless the families who visit with good wishes. I am so honored to be selected to participate in this project and hope that this space helps to provide visitors with a sense of optimism and strength. — David Fruscione

Powder Room

I go crazy for a spectacular powder room, it is the perfect place to have fun and be adventurous. I wanted to create the feeling of an exotic getaway, a place that allowed you to not think about your daily struggles. I developed a custom-designed graphic wallpaper in bold colors, which I complemented with an over-scaled hex tile floor. Gold accents add a bit of shine, and the delicately beaded light fixture adds texture and sophistication. Sometimes having a moment alone is what we need most, and I hope that this space allows guests to escape! — David Fruscione

DWAYNE BERGMANN INTERIORS The goal in this guest bedroom was to evoke a sense of calm and provide a much-needed respite for the families of loved ones in the hospital. The overall cool, minimalistic aesthetic is warmed with the elongating floor-to-ceiling natural wood canopy feature. We want guests to feel an immediate sense of serenity when they cross the room’s threshold, so we chose a pleasing mix of earthy tones, which are proven to positively affect one’s mood. The functionality of the space — to act as a home away from home — was of the utmost importance, so we created a clean workspace where they can virtually reconnect to life outside the hospital setting. We hope the monastery-like space acts as a sanctuary where guests can free their mind, rest, recharge, or find that moment of Zen so they may provide healing support to their loved one in-need. — Dwayne Bergmann & Team

ALEXIS MARIE INTERIORS Being all too familiar with the NICU experience ourselves, we wanted to create a serene, warm office space where staff can retreat between aiding the families staying at the Ronald McDonald HouseŽ. I envisioned a space that felt like home, had warm texture and tonal layers, as well as a touch of the outdoors. We aimed to create an inviting feel by using warm tones in the wallcoverings, embroidered fabric panels, and natural wood tones on the side chair. Each of these pieces were accented with a touch of fun: a hand-painted faux horn acrylic martini table and beautiful antique brass light fixtures. A custom builtin wall and shadow boxes, all done in a rich waterloo painted finish, anchor the furnishings. To add a sense of serenity, we added faux greenery in the back of the boxes and chose a calming beach scene piece of artwork. We are so honored to have been a part of Project Design 2020 and hope it provides comfort to all those who pass through. — Alexis Limb & Team

CALIFORNIA CLOSETS Our goal was to provide a functional space with flair for all of the behind-the-scenes items that are so important to the staff at Ronald McDonald HouseŽ. Tackling the storage room and the bedroom closets allowed for us to provide units that made the house feel like a home, with familiar places to put all the important things for daily living, and in turn give everyone more time and space to focus on what matters most. — Heather Woods & Taylor Woods

JETT & COMPANY INTERIOR DESIGN The new Development Director’s office can be described as spirited, modern, and organic. The custom artwork, “Jolly Jumpers”, exudes hope, joy, and refreshment, all of which is at the heart of the Ronald McDonald House Charities® and the thousands of families throughout the world who benefit from their cause. Incorporating sustainable green materials, this inviting space welcomes donors into a fully integrated modern design. Our design is defined by white lacquer cabinets that are framed by a wall clad in charcoal gray solid surface material, which form the backdrop for a glass upper cabinet and a stained wood floating shelf. The oversized desk — perfect for working in tandem with donors — is supported by a stainless steel base and the built-in cabinet, which houses pullouts for trash and recycling. After our remarkable experience with Project Design 2016, it is an honor to serve Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southwest Florida for Project Design 2020. — Jett Segal & Team

MESSAGE FROM LAURA RAGAIN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES® SOUTHWEST FLORIDA We are so very pleased with the expansion of our Ronald McDonald House® in Fort Myers. The House continues its mission of providing a home away from home in our five-county region of Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Glades, and Hendry counties for families of children who require medical care. Parents who are not close to the essential care their child needs have the added stress of distance, increased living expenses, the added difficulty of long drives, interruption of jobs, and separation from family and friends. All of the above creating a need for the welcoming environment we provide at “the House that love built.” Through December of last year, occupancy rates averaged 70 to 100 percent for an average stay of 24 days. The ever-growing specialty treatments available at Golisano Children’s Hospital have also increased the need to provide for more children and families. All too often, families had to wait for a room vacancy. Although 2020 brought unexpected twists and turns, our generous Southwest Florida community allowed us to break ground on a 10-room House expansion! Shortly thereafter and without hesitation, Project Design 2020 was underway! We are beyond grateful. Our sincerest thanks to Suzanne Costa and Jeffrey Fisher for inviting Southwest Florida’s top interior designers to transform a blank canvas into an incredibly beautiful and nurturing environment. Laura Ragain, Executive Director Ronald McDonald House Charities® Southwest Florida

When new owners purchased this waterfront site in The Moorings, they approached MHK Architecture & Planning about remodeling the lot’s existing home. “The size and angular configuration of the existing home was going to severely limit their vision,” recalls Stephen Jallad, MHK Architecture & Planning’s director of residential design. “They were clear about their wish list and what floor should have what space. The driving factors were getting as many key spaces on the water view as possible, having a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience, and making sure there was lots of light.” Once Jallad showed the homeowners sketches of what could be done, and they saw the site’s full potential, they never looked back. “We flooded the home with light by creating as many expanses of glass as we could,” Jallad continues. u

Left: Landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design created an illusion of symmetry for the front elevation with an architectural circular driveway that mirrors the home’s footprint and balanced plantings framing the entrance. “Layering alternate textures and colors creates a sense of extra depth,” says Andrea, illustrating the principle with colorful bromeliads in the foreground and variegated gingers around the twin palms. A darkly colored standing seam aluminum roof provides a stark contrast to the white stucco, which is finished to resemble siding. Below: Because the owners “wanted the home to connect to the outdoors and embrace the water, we brought the water right up to the outdoor living area,” adds Jallad. “The lack of steps between the house and the pool further reinforced that concept.” Andrea concludes, “The heart and soul of the home is the pool area, every room looks at it and is impacted by that view.”

While light and openness was the goal, privacy was also important. The onyx-stained solid sapele wood (African mahogany) custom front doors are inset with large single panes of glass. The Design West interior design team of Caroline Ficquette and Raquel Bloam provided the perfect privacy solution with electrochromic glass which changes to opaque at the touch of a switch. Because the home was for a family “in the thick of life,” as Ficquette describes, “We knew it needed to be warm and welcoming. We used a lot of natural materials and neutral backgrounds with high contrast reserved for the accents. The resulting soft, contemporary style is refined and tailored, very fresh for this area.” u

The brilliant Quantum White quartz countertops by Quantum Quartz are also from Set In Stone Countertops. Thassos white marble subway tile adorns the kitchen walls, and the range hood and kitchen island have stainless steel accent bands that were fabricated locally in Fort Myers. Above Right: Underfoot and, surprisingly, overhead in the coffered ceilings throughout the home, white oak engineered wood flooring in the Tribeca finish continues the neutral, natural theme. Upholstered Edie dining stools from Vanguard Furniture and Dain host chairs from Century Furniture surround the Broderick dining table in Dark Espresso from Palecek. Design West selected a gold leaf Grand Lotus Oval chandelier from Currey & Company to illuminate the setting.

To balance the openness with the need for privacy, landscape architect Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design selected plantings designed to provide natural screening. For example, privacy outside the master bath window was a concern and Andrea answered it by adding traveler’s palms. “They are a wonderful screen and lend a tropical effect. They were a great solution.” “These clients had a great sense of what they wanted,” adds Bloam. “They brought a lot of their own inspiration to the project. They used a lot of visuals to illustrate details, which was super helpful.” u

For the fun-loving family enthusiastic about waterfront living, T. Jerulle Construction crafted the stunning new home focused on functionality. Customized with seldom-seen features like a dog wash in the garage, skylights in the kitchen, and a second laundry room situated upstairs, Terry Jerulle, president of T. Jerulle Construction, says the home epitomizes his building philosophy, “Whatever the question, the answer is ‘yes.’ We strive to give the client whatever they need.” n

HISTORICAL TRIBUTE

A

Aubuchon Homes’ new Carleton model is situated just a few miles from the lush, historic Edison and Ford Winter Estates of famous friends Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. The neighborhood in downtown Fort Myers not only holds an interesting historical story, but it also fuels the architecture and design of this Grand Aurora Award-winning model. “Stylistically we wanted to pay tribute to the history of the area, but at the same time introduce something fresh and different,” shares Gary Aubuchon, partner of Aubuchon Homes. This upscale West Indies-inspired home is full of both intrigue and style that undoubtedly stands up to the history of its surrounding community. u

Above: With prominent views on either side of this grand room, lead interior designer Diana Daniel’s design eases the eye over the space with warm woods and neutral colors. Soft pillows with playful blue and silver decorations adorn the clean line sofas. To add texture, Daniel uses a sisal area rug with a subtle, geometric pattern. The massive walnut coffee table grounds the space, and is offset from the rug with its special concave, ripple mirror base. Previous Spread: The home’s crisp white façade makes the marine and natural wood accents pop. The roof — finished with a three-gray-blend — imitates the look of handmade clay tiles. Authentic walnut French doors open to the outdoor living space, honoring traditional West Indies style while creating a timeless ambiance.

Above: Sculptural, geometric recycled marble and travertine tiles on the fireplace create a modern textural element, while a simple beam mantel reflects the architecture, tying together this Old World tropical style in 2020. McKiddie designed the built-ins to the height of the transoms, while Daniel sets a weathered blue woven backdrop that allows the elegantly simple shelves to stand out. Rattan chairs in a deep navy and zebra pattern tell an exotic story like each artifact accent piece.

Aubuchon Homes’ Director of Architectural Design Mike McKiddie prioritized indoor and outdoor living and designed this West Indies home so it embodies an “it has always been there vibe,” he says. Symmetry steers the design front-to-back and side-to-side. The front entry’s walnut French doors — visible from the street — sit between a courtyard drive that buffers the home from the road. The bright white stucco, warm gray tile roof, vibrant bougainvillea, exotic palms, and rubber trees evoke the inspiration that hails from Edison’s historical stamp on the area. Even though the post-and-beam construction gives the illusion of period accuracy, this high-tech “smart house” is a marvel of modern creation. u

Lead interior designer Diana Daniel of Evalutions by Aubuchon invents an adventurous family, who at the turn of the twentieth century — Edison’s era — travels far-and-wide, returning to their coastal winter home just like Edison. “You could visualize the family came by boat and could see the special artifacts or furnishings they would return with from far off regions,” Daniel elaborates. All of this, Daniel says, creates an “interesting culture to be inspired by,” so each color decision, furniture selection, and accent piece is chosen with that story-in-mind. Daniel weaves deep marine and warm walnut hues into the bright-white palette and infuses the design with spirited zebra prints, organic textures, and subtle geometric forms to introduce subliminal modern design elements. All the natural wood finishes in the home vary slightly in hue, adding to the idea of gathering special pieces from around the world. For Daniel, winning a Grand Aurora on this project is a “true highlight” of her career. u

Above: This dining space by Aubuchon Homes is a convergence of comfort and elegance in navy blue — with organic textures and geometric motifs — and a spectacular view through the French doors out to the pool. Strong enough to stand on its own, this dining room is a restful transition between the two focal walls. Sherwin-Williams’ muted gray-blue ceiling paint opposes the walls in Pure White to create intimacy in this grand space. Left: “Just one cabinet color would not have made the kitchen a focal point,” shares Daniel on the mixture of bright white, driftwood, and royal blue, which became the kitchen’s colorway. A dainty hood along with glass-front cabinets with a delicate, subliminal fish design softens this strong kitchen. Low profile woven-back stools with black metal bases pop against the large format tile installed in a straight stacked pattern by Modern Tile & Carpet throughout the home’s main living areas.

“When you look at The Carleton, it will be hard for future generations to judge the timeframe it was built in since we used timeless features,” says Aubuchon. The Aubuchon team flawlessly blends the inspiring Fort Myers’ history with a fresh and exciting spin on the West Indies style, making this home an “instant classic,” states Aubuchon — and thus putting their own Aubuchon Homes’ stamp on history. n

Above: The serene outdoor view is mimicked by the soothing original artwork across from the bed. Grounding the art is a white linen-wrapped console table with silver metallic trim and a cozy chair in a delicate denim-blue, whose whitewashed feet stand out atop the warm, rustic wood flooring from Modern Tile & Carpet. Sculptural milk glass pieces above the bed add whimsy akin to the crystal bracelet light fixture. Left: The freestanding tub from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery has striking modern fixtures that pair well with the floating shelves. The wood inlay chevron pattern “rug” is made from the same wood flooring found in the owner’s retreat. Dekton sheets complete the surrounding floor and continue up the shower walls creating a seamless integration into the shower.

Left: To unify this feature wall, Daniel uses 12-by-24-inch ceramic tiles in a similar colorway to the raven-ash NatureKast cabinetry. Blue marine frames the windows, adds a nautical feel, and ties into the softer blue and ash watercolor backsplash tile. The warm tongue-and-groove cypress ceiling harkens back to the interior trim and showcases three voluminous globe pendants that elevate this elegant outdoor space.

Above: Three sets of French doors lead to the open veranda, drawing the view to the pool, pool deck, trellis-waterfall, and fire bowls that “creates a visual interest in contrast,” says Aubuchon. Travertine stepping stones set among the pebbles and across the pool lead to the trellis-covered deck amid the tropical foliage. The soothing waterfall creates a tranquil ambiance, while music plays through specially calibrated hidden speakers — propelling this West Indies home into the future.

Ms. Krümm’s interior designs form the foundation of her business, revealing her artistic background and international influences by balancing the elegant and ethereal. We sat down with Ms. Krümm for an inside look at how she works with local investors, developers, builders, and other tradesmen to create spec home properties that anticipate the needs of Southwest Florida’s discerning homebuyers. Krümm’s services include unfurnished spec homes, where she selects all the interior and exterior surfaces, fixtures, and finishes, to fully furnished spec homes where all of the above is included as well as selecting the interior furnishings and decor. We hope this Designer Q&A gives you an inside look at the intricate process of designing, decorating, and furnishing spec homes from conception to completion.

The owner’s contributions to the décor and design were vital say the builder and architect. And she knew her mind. She wanted a “timeless” home—one in which accessories could be interchangeable. “I chose grays and white and relied on a variety of textures for interest and definition,” she says. From the 12 ft chandelier in the foyer to each of Developer Spec Home — Unfurnished the furnishings, the home bears her imprint.

H&D: Why do you feel spec homes are so prevalent in our area? Krßmm: Investors see the real estate market in Southwest Florida as a great opportunity with low risk and high return on their investment. Southwest Florida is a sought-after destination, so the spec house market has been very successful. Now, especially with the pandemic, people realize how important homesteads are, and Southwest Florida offers a pristine, beautiful, safe environment with a good quality of life (not to mention considerable tax incentives). However, being able to purchase a luxury designer move-in ready home that has been designed, created, and implemented by local top professionals in their field is the real enticement, with the added value brought by the renowned team! H&D: How do I pick the right team to design and build a spec home? Krümm: Investors seek proven, experienced teams with a solid reputation in the market to create, build, and market a product that will sell, and sell quickly, for maximum return on investment. Selecting a team with a proven track record that will work well together is key. The team is often comprised of the investor, real estate broker, architect, interior designer, and builder. The interior designer works with all these professionals to make it happen — imagining the possibilities for the living spaces, developing the details, selecting interior hard surfaces as well as furnishing selections. For a cohesive look, designers are often also responsible for the exterior finish selections as well.

H&D: How do you design a home without an actual homeowner? Krümm: Creating a high-quality environment that aligns with Southwest Florida’s sought-after lifestyle and that appeals to a wide-range demographic but stands out amongst the competition is not a small task. The success of the project depends on the designer’s ability to not only bring the vision, but make the selections and provide the supporting drawings in accordance with a fast-track timeline, all within budget, all in partnership with the team. Unlike designing a custom home, a spec home must appeal to the majority of individuals who are seeking a new home in Southwest Florida. So the years of experience designing for this market is invaluable. Knowing what appliances, fixtures, and furnishings are expected, imagining how the home needs to function and feel, as well as developing an interior that is unique, innovative, timeless, and appealing are all assets brought by the seasoned designer.

H&D: How do you determine the right location for a spec home? Krümm: This is a tough question because most high-profile neighborhoods in Southwest Florida are a good location. Waterfront properties that can house a boat are desired, and in that case canals with deep water for larger boats or direct access are in demand. With empty lots few and far between, investors often look for “teardowns” — homes that are too small and out-of-date to be worthy of renovating.

H&D: Why is it so important to hire a designer when building a spec home? Krümm: Time is money. We must conceptualize and oversee our design specifications implemented in the building of a luxury home. If timed right, it will be ready just in time to market during season when the population is dense. However, over the past few years we have seen a lot of serious buyers even in the summer months, and even more so this year. People especially love to purchase fully-furnished move-in-ready homes — hello, instant gratification! This fast-track process takes an organized, experienced, cohesive team. It is the designer’s job to provide the selections, specifications, and supporting design documents necessary to implement the projects and facilitate the builder’s fast-track process. This takes organization, structured processes and procedures, good communication skills, accountability, versatility, agility, diplomacy, a thorough understanding of the construction process, ability to work well with the trades, good financial planning, and budget managing. Noteworthy, considering most people consider their interior designer’s talents to be primarily on the creative side. Many industry professionals choose to work together based on reputation and professional integrity, as ability goes without saying when you reach this level of work.

H&D: What goes into designing a spec home? Krümm: A designer’s scope of services begins with programming, which is gathering information, analyzing the plans, and making recommendations for improvements before they go to permit. This starts with a preliminary furniture plan (basically a hypothetical plan since the furniture won’t be selected until much later) and usually means minor tweaks such as moving doors or windows, occasionally walls, or reworking space-planning since we are focused specifically on how the home will function. We typically begin with the exterior selections (roof, façade, windows, trim, pavers, entry doors, garage doors, railings, coach lights) and then move inside. It is nice to have continuity with the architecture and interior. Inside, we usually begin with the general flooring, then select the appliances and plumbing fixtures. Next, we develop the cabinetry designs with the cabinetry company while selecting the tile and countertop material, followed by selections for the cabinetry door styles and finishes. At that point we move on to the ceiling details and lighting and electrical plans. We select the interior doors, door hardware, and millwork. Then work on detailing the feature walls, ceilings, and bathroom tile elevations where we locate the plumbing surfaces and mounted light fixtures before framing is complete and the electrical and plumbing are roughed in. We will then circle back to design any specialty lighting needed to enhance the interior details. Before returning to the rest of the selections (paint, finishes, wallcoverings, cabinetry hardware, shower enclosures, light fixtures, and fans), it is time to select the furnishings and décor. u

H&D: What goes into designing a spec home, con’t. Krümm: By this time the building is well underway, and the team has site meetings with the builder to make sure the designs are being implemented in accordance with our plans. The designer will also answer any questions from the builder or help to address unforeseen situations with the buildout. Typical issues may arise, such as reselecting materials no longer available or working through installation challenges and fine-tuning details together, all while the designer is processing and tracking the furnishings and décor to make sure it arrives when the house is complete. And often while the paint is still drying, it’s showtime! We usually have about two weeks to install furnishings and decorate the entire home for the lucky future homeowner, and then it’s ready to grace the pages of Home & Design Magazine! n

SOPHISTICATED SPARKLE

S

Sea glass…the name itself sparkles and shimmers, conjuring images of sandy shores dotted with tumbled gems of blues and greens, glints of color juxtaposed with organic elements like coral and sisal. Interior designers Diana Hall and Elizabeth Manchego of Diana Hall Design captured the essence of sea glass in this unit of the 27-story high-rise coastal condominium of the same name. “Seaglass is the most contemporary building in Bonita Bay,” explains Hall. “Many of the units reflect this in their interior design.” u

Left: Immediately catching the eye in the great room, the entertainment wall is tiled with 24-by-24-inch natural porcelain tile in Sublime, set on a staggered pattern and inset with jewel-like glass accent tile from Glazzio Tile in Aviation Mint. The 110-inch long Old Biscayne Designs console from International Design Source is finished with a faux linen hand-brushed custom-mixed combination of turquoise, mint green, silver, and slate. A pair of nubby mint green cube ottomans add colorful texture.

Below: A focal point of the elevator foyer that Manchego calls “a little jewelry box, the Diana Hall Design team recreated a wall of niches for this client based on one they designed for her previous residence. A mix of organic and handblown glass pieces and natural sea coral greets neighbors and visitors.

287

Hall should know: her talents have graced the interiors of more than a dozen of the elegant, upscale units in Seaglass. “This unit was designer-ready,” continues Hall. “We started working with our client two years ago, choosing the flooring and other background details from the Seaglass design center.” The duo labored to learn their client’s style during their first design project with her, a residence in neighboring Tavira at Bonita Bay. “She wanted to replicate much of the style,” says Manchego, noting, “This is a more contemporary spin on her Tavira unit.” u

Above: The Vanguard Furniture dining set features armchairs backed with a fun linen-embroidered geometric print. Hall chose a black glass bar cart, also by Vanguard Furniture from International Design Source, to provide the solution for a service piece without blocking the view over the low windowsill. Lucite details on the Capital Lighting polished nickel chandelier from Wilson Lighting tie into the living room pieces. “We have a lot of hard surfaces in the dining area, so I chose a soft floral detail in the centerpiece,” Hall points out.

Above: A quartet of Vanguard Furniture vegan leather counter stools in shimmery, pearlescent Pewter with chrome nailhead trim tuck under the kitchen island of Summer Hill, illuminated by a trio of oversized lantern-style polished nickel pendants from Wilson Lighting. The perimeter counters are topped with cement-colored quartz. Frosted glass and white chiseled marble tiles form the counter-to-ceiling backsplash.

Above: “This is my very favorite bed,” enthuses Hall. The Vanguard Sandbox bed in dark espresso features a tapered headboard, two fabrics — one tufted — and nailhead trim. Behind it, a geometric pattern crafted from flat stock molding accents the wall. A low-sheen washable Lili Alessandra quilted velvet coverlet dresses the bed from International Design Source, hosting a collection of equally shimmery Kravet pillows. Wood, linen, and glass nightstands from Interlude flank the bed, topped with Regina Andrew lamps.

Right: “Changing out the standard tub to this freestanding one really made all the difference in this bath. Running floating shelves up the walls gives the bath a spa-like feel. There is a lot of movement and contrast in the 24-by-24-inch marble-look porcelain tile and it serves as a decorative element in itself,” declares Hall.

290

homeanddesign.net

So successful were they that their client brought nothing to her new home! They even recreated a wall of niches, a focal point of the elevator foyer Manchego calls “a little jewelry box.” A mix of organic and handblown glass pieces and natural sea coral greets neighbors and visitors. Hall and Manchego kept the accessories to a minimum, strategically placing the colorful elements against backdrops of muted neutral tones like the color-blocked draperies. “When we do things that are coastal, they are sophisticated, not whimsical. There are no cute signs saying, ‘This way to the beach’,” laughs Hall. u

Above: The den décor began with the free-flowing taupe and soft blue area rug from Hadinger Flooring. Cut velvet animal print fabric from Kravet enlivens the accent pillows on the American Leather sleeper sofa from International Design Source. The pair of pearlescent faux leather ottomans on castors can easily be moved. The practical end tables are from Bernhardt, with lamps from FlowDecor. Right: Hall used two queen beds instead of a king, “because they are wonderful in small spaces.” Dressed in “wonderfully fluffy and puffy” coverlets from Pine Cone Hill, the beds flank a nightstand in white lacquered grasscloth from Bungalow 5. The long accent pillows are covered in a Robert Allen fabric that brings the room’s neutrals and sea glass colors together. The Worlds Away light fixture adds a metallic geometric touch in subdued silver.

Instead, they use touches like the hand-blown glass bowl full of bubble-like glass balls atop the Bernhardt Lucite coffee table in the great room. Chosen to allow the turquoise and aqua hand-knotted area rug to shine through, the table and a complementary Lucite end table from Interlude Home add a bit of sparkle themselves. n

Above: Apollo Grey porcelain tile unifies the main living area. Durable pet- and kid-friendly Krypton custom fabric covers the Vanguard Furniture sectional, a neutral backdrop for Kravet couture pillows. The two-tier drum chandelier from Wilson Lighting adds to the subtle geometric patterns scattered throughout the room. Mary Hong’s artwork from John-Richard features bits of hand-poured broken glass embedded in a high-gloss vitreous finish. 294

PINE RIDGE ESTATES

HEATHER LARKIN & RENÉE HAHN THE PINE RIDGE ESTATES EXPERTS Pine Ridge Estates is rated ‘best neighborhood’ in the US for good reason. BCB HOMES This tropical, transitional ranch style home located on a cul-de-sac in the heart of the Pelican Bay Woods neighborhood was built by BCB Homes. The home boasts almost 5,000 square feet of living space. Upon entering the home, you will be struck by one of the architectural focal points — the beautiful entry way with soaring ceilings lines with dark teak-colored wood. Your eyes will then move toward the statement fireplace that separates the formal living room from the great room. This spacious home with four bedrooms plus a den, four full bathrooms, and two powder rooms is well lit from the transom windows over the front entry and the hurricane impact resistance sliding doors, which open to the backyard, provide an abundance of natural light. The interior designer created an environment designed with a mix of clean contemporary lines and traditional flair – perfect for entertaining. n Courtesy of BCB Homes | bcbhomes.com Photography by Nick Shirghio

CARRIE BRIGHAM DESIGN

This classic, transitional interior design was specifically created to integrate our client’s incredible collection of art. From the moment you enter this home, you are welcomed by a large portrait by Chuck Close and an entertaining area to sip cocktails all night long. Each room simply complements the client’s collection of art from wall to wall. The turquoise and emerald water from the Gulf of Mexico carries you from indoor to outdoor living. Our clients can access the balcony from the master en suite office, aka the sunset study, and living area to enjoy panoramic views of the ocean. n Courtesy of Carrie Brigham Design carriebrighamdesign.com Photography by Blaine Johnathan

This penthouse renovation proposed many challenges and unique opportunities. Its existing curved perimeter and original radial layout made the space feel dated and congested. The new design plan required a complete gut renovation resulting in the entire condo being replaced from floor to ceiling. Hardwood floors replaced the existing layer of linoleum in the entry foyer and hall through the kitchen. This residence has a balcony which overlooks Doctor’s Pass with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico. The redesigned floor plan encouraged better flow throughout the space and emphasized the view from all vantage points. The rooftop garden terrace, a custom bar, ample storage space, and guest bedrooms allow for entertainment with friends and family. The application of fun patterns and colors makes this residence a great place for the client’s grandchildren to gather. n Courtesy of Carrie Brigham Design | carriebrighamdesign.com Photography by Venjhamin Reyes

CARRIE BRIGHAM DESIGN

This new construction, single-family home is located in the Park Shore neighborhood and was designed to host, entertain, and relax. This residence provides optimal entertainment for guests with its open floor plan, outdoor oasis (featuring a fireplace and outdoor kitchen), and multiple en-suite bedrooms for guests. The unique tile flooring found in each bathroom was inspired by the coastal region that is right outside the doors of this home. The architectural detailing of the volume ceilings and custom cabinetry in the kitchen and baths are exquisite. The cabinetry details and design add to the impeccable quality of the home. Custom furnishings throughout the main areas complement the sophisticated, coastal interior. The use of classic elements and principles of design, scale, proportion, balance, symmetry, and line as well as the interesting yet timeless decorative building materials and custom furnishings, come together to create Naples’ finest interior design for a single-family home. n Courtesy of Carrie Brigham Design | carriebrighamdesign.com Photography by Venjhamin Reyes

KNAUF-KOENIG GROUP The outdoor living area of this home is something straight out of a luxury travel magazine. Stepping outside, your eyes are drawn to the tabby stucco TV feature wall with a live-edge fireplace mantel. The ceiling consists of decorative beams and stained cypress tongue-and-groove planks. A resort-style pool with multiple entry points and spa is set below the living area to give some privacy. After a dip in the pool, you can retire to lounge poolside to get some sun. Later, relax on the weather-proof furniture in the living area and catch the game. Surrounded by lush, tropical landscaping, this outdoor area will have you thinking you have found your own island oasis. u

NORRIS FURNITURE & INTERIORS Warm earth tones and ombré patterns were the inspiration for this home’s interior palette. The great room’s entertainment wall was designed with dramatic flair to create a notable presence. Behind the television, a layered cross-hatch luminescent finish was the result of a collaboration between the designers and a local faux artist. Elegant marble-inspired porcelain flooring is found throughout the main living areas. The bedrooms, office, and bonus space have wood flooring to emphasize and enhance warmth from the palette and the dramatic ceiling beams. Set atop a geometric area rug, two Precedent sofas anchor the seating arrangement. Occasional pieces in dark wood and emerald green accents continue the warm, earth-toneinspired color scheme. Lounge chairs with a retro wood frame accent add a playful flair to complete the living room setting. The kitchen’s grand island offers seating on two sides, perfect for both intimate dinners and large gatherings. The elegant dining room displays a dramatic gold and dark bronze lighting fixture and below, a wood trim flooring accent mimics the concept of an area rug. u

WILFREDO EMANUEL DESIGNS Wilfredo of Wilfredo Emanuel Designs created a studio as a reflection of his personality and talent as a designer. His desire was to create a unique space unlike any other in Naples. The boutique’s porcelain floor was used in contrast with dark walls and show-stopping wallpaper to create a bold background for the art and accessories throughout. The lighting was specifically designed to enhance and highlight the beauty of the exquisite home products. With a beautiful bar for events and a moveable island, Wilfredo created a subtle yet practical space to be used for various purposes. Innovative lighting in the office is mirrored in the design of the wallpaper. The conference room is filled with the latest technology to go above and beyond for client presentations. COLLINS DUPONT DESIGN GROUP Inspired by the West Indies, this private residence in Olde Cypress — designed by President of Collins DuPont Design Group Sherri DuPont, along with project leader Hailey Burkhardt — features rich, dark finishes in a warm neutral color palette with pops of golds and yellows throughout. The bold, structural light fixtures highlight the fully remodeled kitchen and dining room that showcase a live edge dining table, stunning artwork, and a bright kitchen island wrapped in a gorgeous hand-selected quartzite stone. Inviting you to stay awhile, the great room provides a “wow” moment for any guest that comes through the front door. The custom cabinetry at the bar and great room etageres house the clients’ treasures from their travels. A sense of calm prevails in the master bathroom with a soaking tub, marble-clad shower, and custom his-and-her vanities. The spacious main guest room features a geometrical upholstered bed, brass accented furniture, and textiles layered in texture and warmth. Another iconic feature of this Collins DuPont home is the completely remodeled powder bath. Designing around existing architectural details, the team encased the archway and shower in a luxe marble tile and selected a rich, warm finish for the vanity and light fixtures. n Courtesy of Collins DuPont Design Group | collins-dupont.com Photography by Blaine Johnathan

J. LYNN DESIGN GROUP This spectacular renovation of a Marco Island high-rise condo was designed with a family of eight in mind. In addition to creating an amazing home, the design goal was to create an inviting space that is kid friendly and easy to live in. J. Lynn Design Group’s northern clients were not looking for a typical “coastal” design, so shown are unexpected layers of brick, quartzite countertops, and stained woods that contrast with the crisp-white kitchen cabinetry and ceiling details. The clean line furnishings and pops of color create the perfect place to unwind. n

FAB’S FAUX DECOR Starting out with scribbles and doodles on a notebook at a young age, artist Fabienne of Fab’s Faux Decor did not realize her art would eventually lead her to Firenze, London, and New York City. The different cultures inspired and taught her to develop her artistic skills, eventually revealing her true passions. About two decades ago, she created Fab’s Faux Decor, her fine decorative art painting company. If she isn’t on a project, she is in her studio expressing herself on canvases, wood, or metal. Most of her inspiration is from Wabi-Sabi, which can be seen through the application of organic plasters and pigments to reflect perfect imperfection. Her canvases envoke a sense of rustic simplicity and elegance. Born and raised in the South of France, Fabienne now resides in Southwest Florida with her family. Her artwork can be seen on display at The Sweet Art Gallery in Naples. n Courtesy of Fab’s Faux Decor fabsfauxfinishes.com

Moving from space to space, muted silvers and platinum play off the rich stains used in accent tables and the island cabinetry.
